Xabina - 2005 World's Beat Chocolate Cake Winner
    Connie C.

We came here for some sweets while we were in Barcelona, and bubó came up in our search. We came in looking at all the decadent sweets and couldn't decide. We asked the girl behind the counter what she liked best, and she said she never ate anything there.... (weird) but recommended the Xabina to us because it was the 2005 winner of the world's best chocolate cake award. Boy, was that cake rich. We ordered a coffee to complement the sweetness of the cake. The cake is an olive oil cake, and has a variety of spices that complement the rich chocolate-y-ness of the cake. Pretty price for a small piece, but worth the experience of trying. I wouldn't say it was amazing, but it was still goooood. :')

Had a late dinner during our early summer visit to Barcelona, Spain. No reservation, but seating was available. This is near Santa Maria Del Mar Church which has several shops, restaurants, bars, and of course tapas options. Our server was very friendly and took great care of us. We ordered tomato bread, Iberico ham, potatoes, cheese tray, steak tartare, grilled octopus, and a chocolate dessert called Xabina. Everything was delicious! So many unique tastes and presentations - what's not to love about tapas. Trying many small dishes is the way to go. I get the sense Bubo is known more as a pastry shop, but the tapas are right up there.

TL;DR apparently best chocolate cake in the world?! Shared the chocolate cake, the one that has the shiny exterior. Wonderful. Decadent. Rich. W/ a macaron on top! Highly recommend sharing with a friend.

    Got Noir

Dessert at night, they were closing and suggested we sit in their restaurant next door but we got turned away since they were serving dinner only. Tried their award winning cake and the Got Noir. The Got Noir was actually the favorite for my friend and I (it's the one in the glass cup). They didn't hold back on the sweetness, so it might be too sweet for some. Also pricey at 6€ each, had dishes less expensive in Barcelona.

At the end of a charming historical chocolate tour I took in Barcelona, we ended at this modern Catalonian chocolatier. Standing at the counter salivating while waiting for the apron-clad chefs to talk me through the options, an understudy offered me a small coco covered chocolate ball. It was truly stunning how delicious it was. At that point I knew this establishment was divine!! But really though, it was a smart, delicious experience and highly recommend!

Items Selected: Americano Iberico Sandwich Apple Cream Brioche Marzipan Walnut Croissant Orange Chocolate Walnut Éclair Conveniently located on Carrer de les Caputxes, both the Cathedral of Barcelona as well as Basilica Santa Maria del Mar nearby and Museu Picasso only a few blocks away, it was just past 08h30 that two guests stopped in at Bubo Bar for breakfast, nearby sister Bubo considered by many to be one of the city's more innovative spots for Tapas where owner and Chef Carles Mampel has been serving guests for over a dozen years. Known predominantly as an award-winning pastry Chef in his early years, both Bubo and the Bar next door opened when the Chef was just 37 and originally focused on glistening Macarons and beautiful Bon-Bons, it has been with time that Mampel has one both locals and tourists over with savories and although both the locations in Spain as well as those in Dubai and Tokyo remain predominantly sweet those looking for Charcuterie, a Sandwich or Tortilla Espanola topped with Meat, Cheese or Vegetables will certainly not be denied something good to eat. Spending far more money of the mothership than the Bar, the latter a sort of afterthought with drab gray benches, blue walls and fairly uncomfortable stools, it was after perusing the menu that a middle-aged Indian gentleman took a four-part order, two Americanos served quickly along with three Pastries while Iberico Ham was gently toasted between two slices of thin and crusty Bread in the back. Not exactly an expeditious sort of place, the lone staff-member having to run down to Bubo for pricing verification on the Éclair before returning to report a computer upgrade would delay paying the bill by at least fifteen minutes, it was with Coffee slowly sipped that a first taste was taken of a glazed Croissant filled with ground Walnuts in Marzipan, the taste every bit as sweet as it sounds and a bit softer than would be expected while the Apple Cream Brioche eggy, soft and light with the Custard base playing well off three gently baked wedges of Fruit atop the pastry. Typically not a fan of Orange and Chocolate, but told by the man behind the counter that the candied Rind was more 'tangy' than sweet, it was in fact in the Éclair that Chef Mampel's best work was discovered, the €6 price-tag making the crisp Choux and Dark Chocolate by far the morning's most expensive item though generally worth it, save for the additional ten minutes that it took for the computers to finally be up and running.

Touristy but rightfully so as desserts were appealing to the eyes and tasted just as good. 4 star for limited seating and not so friendly customer service.

Melon soup - was the soup of the day

Conveniently located outside of Basilica of Santa Maria Del Mar in a little plaza, bubó Bar is a great little place to grab a meal while enjoying the ambiance of the area - preferably sitting outside. They offer a range of tapas and drinks, relatively similar to what other restaurants in the city offer. We went with the 20€ a person tapa lunch which included chicken skewers, patatas bravas, a soup of the day (was a melon soup for us), calamari, croquetas, a drink per person (went with sangria), bread with a tomato sauce, and dessert. Seemed like a good deal considering one glass of sangria was about 6€ and was included in the set menu. We enjoyed all of the food, especially the beautiful desserts which come from their confectionary next door called bubó. Our server was also incredibly upbeat and friendly. An all around pleasant experience.

Wow! Out of this world! The desserts are so detailed and much care is taken to create and serve them. Service was excellent. It is expensive but definitely worth it!

What better way to celebrate my 100th Yelp review than reviewing my favorite restaurant in Barcelona! I was introduced to Bubó by a friend who had went to Barcelona a few months before me. She did all this research on great places to go in Barca & I just reaped the benefits. Bubó was on her list as one of the top spots & it just so happened to be directly across the courtyard from the gorgeous Santa Maria del Mar Cathedral (make sure you stop by, the stained glass windows are so beautiful). There is limited seating inside which doesn't really matter because outside is where you want to be. The food is fantastic, the sangria is delicious & the Bubó pasteleria next door doesn't hurt much either! Some of my favorite dishes were the mozarella mille-feuille, the tuna ravioli (probably #1), brie & coconut croquettes, iberian ham croquettes, grilled prawns, the mikini. You can't really go wrong with any of the choices though. Also note that the dishes are essentially tapas so while it sounds like a lot of food, it's really not that much. Prices are not cheap but you get what you pay for and that is quality my friends. I love this place so much I went back 2x on my last trip and I can't wait to go back again. Highly recommended stop in Barcelona.

    Bubo Sangria...how I love you!!
    Merrill O.

Bubo is best known for their beautiful and tasty pastries (awarded best chocolate cake in the world in 2005), but you must also make a trip to their tapas restaurant located next door. The patatas bravas are excellent, as are some of the other tapas plates, but what you're really there for is the sangria. Quite possibly the best sangria I have ever had in my life!! Each glass is made to order...no pre-mixed batches to be found here! The fruit is freshly cut, and then the sangria is lovingly prepared. First some granulated sugar on the bottom...then the fruit...then a layer of juice...then the wine...and then some kind of Bubo magic which will knock your socks off with your first sip. My mouth is watering, just thinking about it. YUM!!! Cheers!

Lemon cheese cake with Parmesan cheese
    Austen M.

Bubo is something different from anything else I have reviewed to date. I have not tried the tapas offering that they provide, instead I decided to focus purely on the cake and chocolate side of the business. Yes you heard me right, chocolate and cake!! Usually a mix of the both! They seem to specialise in very artisan desserts that mix together unusual flavours and come out tasting amazing. So for example a lemon cake with Parmesan cheese. Bubo is excellent. Quite pricey for portion size, but they are really providing some very different from the norm that tastes great. So good I went twice in 5 days when I was in Barcelona last month. Definitely one not to miss.

    Cambridge burger
    Nick S.

Bubo is shockingly good for what's easily the most touristy location in El Born. It's front and center for the church, courtyard and various streets and alleyways that all converge right before your table, so it's perfect for people watching. There's an extensive tapas menu, but for me the real standout was the Cambridge burger, which at 7.50 EUR was fairly priced and unbelievably delicious. I normally hold out hope on burgers abroad, but this was one place I'd be happy to return to just for the burger alone.

This was recommended by friends awhile back, I remembered the modern ambiance, amazing Tapas, friendly service and the place was as busy then until now. For this big restaurant caliber, it's pretty crowded yet they do a good job with a fast turnaround. We did the early Dinner and by the time we got out there was already a long line for late Diners. My son had been here last year and thought, it was a solid. We put our name in, went to a nearby park bench to wait and watch people for 50 minutes. The servers outside are grumpy as to many people are crowding the sidewalk and impeding his service. Finally, our name was called, were seated at the bar, and watched a chef make the magic dishes. The menu is huge and I can't help but watch the delicious dishes flying by us. So little time and yet so many great choices, this won't be easy. We began with the beef tenderloin montadito foie gras. It was presented as a open face sandwich on a bagette. We split it as it had a huge piece of foie gras. The tenderloin was tough and the tapas tasted like indivdual components, not a blended or refined profile. The grilled razor clams were nicely cooked, slightly gritty and needed to be washed more thoroughly. The Spanish omelet wedge was spiritual, dish of the night award. The onion made the dish! The sliced fried artichoke was finely shaved, and again lacked a enjoyable flavor that I would order again. The chips with fried eggs and Jabugo ham was different, tasty and a concept I would not of thought about. Delicious! Casveseria Catalanahe was packed and stacked for a reason. A high vibe and energy even in the face of a revolt at the check in desk from hungry dinners. I came say without hesitation, we will give them a second try. The staff was friendly, engaging, warm and a good sense of humor, nothing but smiles. I can't wait for our next trip to Cerveseria Catalana and let them tell me what to order. Good luck and see you sooner than later.

We were happy to enter the cozy La Alcoba Azul and seated by a smiling host immediately & presented with menus. The interior looks almost like a wine cellar with brick vaulted ceilings. The offerings are best described as fusion tapas but there are a few traditional bites as well. Our waiter presented us with an amuse bouché of pumpkin hummus topped with roasted pepitas on an herbed toasted baguette crisp. DELICIOUS! We confidently ordered the tomato tartare with avocado cream, basil, olive powder and rosemary olive oil caviar as well as a half order of cured Iberican meats featuring chorizo, loin, sausage and ham, an order of the hummus with black olives, parsley, pine nuts and pita triangles. All were terrific! We especially enjoyed the meats and tomato tartare. I enjoyed a red sangria that was satisfying and happened to be topped with cinnamon...a first and welcome addition for me.
