In the past, I had too many inexperienced stylists who always messed up with my hair. Omg! I booked a service shampoo and roller set.@4pm I called to confirm my appointment and they told me that it wasn't enough time to do the service. So I still came and I got a shampoo blow dry and I have thick hair so the stylist said she will flat iron. I didn't ask for this service. The website stated that it will cost 39.00 basically 40.00 I end up paying 60.00 for something that I was not satisfied with! They're customer service is horrible! I came again for the second time for a roller set thinking this time would be different however the lady Jasmine tells me she never done a roller set before but will try. Excuse me! This is my hair, and if you don't know how to do a service why would I let you touch my hair! So she passed me along to her coworker who clearly didn't want to do it either. I made an appointment at Bubbles out of desperation when my last hair cut came out very badly. I needed to get it redone so I wouldn't be embarrassed to go out with my hair not in ponytail. Robin was wonderful! She evaluated the mess that was my hair and went over what would need done to clean it up and add some style. They offer $10 new customer discounts, but again depending on your stylist that might just be baked into the cost. I have long hair, so I usually expect to pay $30-$50. Mohammad charges $60 for his services, plus $10 discount brought me to $50 + tip. He did a wonderful job with my hair, took photos for me, and was a great conversationalist. I have two coworkers who have been to this location and both had positive experiences. I did my research on Yelp and looked for reviews of stylists that I thought would be good to try out. I decided to go with Anita and made an online appointment for this morning. While early, it was good for me because the mall was quiet and I got a parking spot right out front which was great. This was my first time coming here and having worked as a receptionist at a hair salon for many years, I am not picky about my hair as I fully understand it grows back. I didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes and Anita greeted me with a nice smile and sat me down to talk about what I wanted to do. I gave her some photos of what I was looking for and pulled a piece of my hair asking to take off 2-3 inches with some layers since I have naturally curly hair and it's thick. She agreed and then walked me over to get a shampoo which was nice. Despite all these great moments leading up to the cut, this is the moment it took a turn. I felt her brush through my hair which reached my mid back and then cut. I was fine until she started to layer. She made them short layers, not long and then continue to cut away. The more she did this, the shorter my hair got and I just tried to stay calm until the end. She put in some curl cream and then diffused my curls which only made my hair get bigger and bigger, not define the curls. The look on our faces when she was done was one where we both knew this was not good, but were both polite about it. She noted that I should go home and style it myself and then come back to her if I wanted to fix it. Unfortunately, I don't plan to come back. All in all, nice place, but not for me. It was clear she didn't know what to do with curly hair or understand how much I wanted to take off. Adina is amazing!!! I am very indecisive and she somehow knows exactly what I want even when I can't fully explain it. I have super long, dark, fine, stick straight hair that, in my opinion is difficult to do much with and she made it look so sexy!! I asked her for balayage highlights that were very natural as I work in a conservative law office. I had gotten balayage before at Aveda, but the lady made them so subtle and painted so few pieces that I didn't think it was worth the cost. When I told Adina that I wanted them to look natural but still be noticeable and give my hair dimension, she gave me the prettiest carmel colored highlights throughout all of my hair. She also knows that I am extremely lazy. I don't invest in high end hair products and I don't get my hair done regularly, so I needed something super low maintenance. In 35 years of life this was literally the worst haircut I've ever gotten, by far. When the stylist was done I laughed thinking it was a joke. I have curly hair, so first this guy does a little trim in the back and some random texturizing, then sort of half blows out my hair? It looked like what happens when you sort of get rained on on a blow out day. I told him that normally I'd either blow it out completely or else let it dry naturally to maintain the curls. He told me he did a blow dry for free as a favor because normally it's an up charge. Ok, so then complete the blow dry maybe? I could've given myself a better cut backwards in a mirror. I noticed it was uneven in the front and told him. He liked, skeptically, measured, found that it WAS and took some more off. it gets worse. he didn't put anything around the back of my neck to prevent the hair going down be back if my shirt so when I got home there were tufts of hair in my shirt and stuck to my back. had to shower and change! As comparatively cheap as it was ($48 + tip lol) it was a waste of money. Definitely won't be back. read more

I couldn't be happier,, she looked at pictures I had of myself before and when she realized I was cutting off 4+ inches took her time. She offered to cut then blow-dry and if I wanted it shorter she'd start the whole process over but didn't want to cut too much. This was my third visit to the salon and I intended to become a regular client but today's experience made me change my mind. The prices showed online are not respected by the stylists. The first time I went I was charged $50 for a shampoo and haircut -so no blowout- even when the service costs $35. The stylist spent a good amount of time cutting my hair so I attributed the extra $15 to that. I also left a tip in cash for her at that time. Today, on my birthday, two different stylists increased their prices saying that the prices in the website were wrong and that "those prices are for men","you know women have more hair so it's more work","sometimes men don't even want a shampoo" so one was charging me $46 per hour, and the other $55. I must say that if those prices were clearly indicated online, I will pay it. The problem for me is that both of them were trying to convince me to pay more while making me feel that they are doing me a favor. And no, a service and a work are not favor but agreements based on respect and clear conditions. One suggested to do it for 35$ today 'because it was my first time' and then, I'll have to pay for $55 for the next visit. The other told me that because it was a walk-in (which was not because I booked it online prior to my visit) she'll charge me 46$ today but her regular price is $50. Funny part: I also had a coupon discount at my email for the same amount, so once again, providing a service or doing your work is not a favor but a mutual transaction. I won't recommend this salon. There are no guidelines or profile that justify the arbitrary process of establishing a price. Clients pay more when they know they are getting more, not when they are treated in a condescending and belittling way. If you need to get your hair done, come to Bubbles! Before I came here, I made the mistake of trying the Splat box hair dye. DO NOT TOUCH THAT STUFF!! It cost $200 to fix my mistake. They had to strip the color from my hair and basically start over. After that, the shampoo, cut, and style only cost $100. If you want to dye your hair fancy shmancy colors (blue, purple, etc), you definitely need to come here. If you like natural hair colors and want it done well, you still need to come here! I had the utmost attention and care from Adina, who definitely knows her stuff and has superb hair skills. Not only that, she was super sweet! This place was not as expensive as other salons and you get personal care from hairstylists who take pride in their work. Definitely highly recommended. read more

She was very kind and gave me lots of useful tips on taking better care of my hair. She also gave me a great haircut, exactly what I asked for and was nice throughout. I had a horrible experience with Thuy Trang. She completely butchered my hair. I asked for long layers with side bangs, shoulder length. Nothing complicated. I even showed her a couple of pictures and explained in detail what I wanted. Not giving me the cut or style I wanted is one thing, I can live with that as long as the cut is clean, professional, even etc. But how is it even possible for a so-called "professional" to cut hair this bad?! My hair literally looks like a 5-year old cut it. Chopped, butchered, uneven, disconnected pieces of hair... my bangs are half an inch ABOVE MY EYEBROWS. Are you kidding me?! Trang doesn't have even the basic skills or understanding of haircutting. Now I am desperately trying to find a stylist to fix as much as it's possible, but I'm looking at many many months of growing my hair to be able to fix this mess. read more

I recently had a ($90!) haircut I wasn't happy with. After showing pictures to my stylist, explaining what I wanted, and how I style my hair, it was still cut too choppy, blunt, and uneven layers. Rather than wait to have it grow out some, I decided to pop into Bubbles to consult with someone who could see my botched do and perhaps clean it up. Mark, their nice manager, was very friendly. He asked for two stylists to come take a look. I showed pictures of what I wanted and explained that I didn't want so much point cutting. (FYI: Too much "point cutting" can make layers look choppy!!) I was paired up with Diane. She explained what she could do now to clean it up so it would lay better and flow more naturally. I was super nervous, but thought, "what the hell!", and agreed for a cut by someone I just met (Diane). I took a leap of faith and I don't regret it. I will need to get it cut again after the short raggedy pieces catch up, but for now I feel more confident. Go see Diane. She has 35 years of experience, is so friendly, and meticulous! Scheduled an appointment online for the first available stylist. Was quoted a price of $45. Drove the 20 minutes down to the Bubbles at Pentagon City in Arlington, VA. Paid to park. Got to the salon early. Was told I would be meeting with Michael Dang. Got in the chair and we talked about styles. He quoted me a price of $65 and hour. I told him that my online booking, for the first available stylist, had quoted $38 or $45 and it seemed unfair for him to add $20. Asked to speak to a manager and was told they had gone home. Asked to speak to an assistant manager and waited while she completed a phone call at the front desk. Explained the incident. She said, "we don't offer hair cuts at $38 or $45." I told her that my online appointment had provided the quote. Michael came back up to add that he charges $65. Decided not to argue and to leave. I've been going to Bubbles for over 20 years (in Maryland) and have never had these types of issues. Disappointed by the service I received. read more

I've been to the salon a few times when my regular hairdresser isn't available and I'm up at the mall running errands. Every time, I feel like I leave feeling worse about my appearance. The hairdressers are very critical, trying to give me weight loss tips or complaining about my hair texture/color. The worst experience was when I asked for some subtle highlights, the hairdresser insisted that I needed BLONDE highlights on my dark hair, and then he bleached my hair into bright pink. He got really defensive and accused me of lying about my hair color history (I've had the same warm brown color for about ten years with the occasional highlight, which I was totally upfront about), and spent the next two hours drying to tone it into something more manageable. The pink in my hair was still so bad that I got reprimanded at work for having an unnatural hair color and had to use a box dye to fix it fast. Box dye may be unhealthy for hair, but at least it was more efficient than the hairdressers at Bubbles. That's the last time I choose convenience over my own comfort and confidence! read more

This is NOT about Edgar, he's GREAT and I still highly recommend him! I was in a pinch and needed a hair cut on Sunday, so I went in and went to whomever they had available. It was Diane. Fine I thought...Edgar was so great so I figured the stylists here must be decent. NOT SO. She COMPLETELY IGNORED ME. I said PLEASE keep the length, I want a trim. I spent the better part of the last three years getting my hair to where it was. She asked me if I wanted the bangs done and I said "sure." Meaning a TRIM! Also, I wanted something EASY. Not something I have to blow dry every darn day. Well, I wear glasses and my vision sucks without them. So she was chatting and chatting and chatting and only using razors to cut my hair, and then I was kind of thinking, "gee that seems like a lot of cutting for a trim, and did she hear the three times I said my ENDS need help, so just a trim and keep the length?" But I figured these people are in customer service so she's not going to ignore me...and let her trim. SHE LOPPED OFF THREE INCHES OF MY HAIR!! It doesn't even hit my shoulders anymore and it's a FOURTH GRADER'S hair cut! No style, no shape...I look like a geeky child! And I have a wave to my hair that looks ridiculous with this length unless I blow dry it, so now I HAVE to blow dry it every time I wash it. I have a one year old at home...I don't have TIME to sit around under a blow dryer. Plus??? I cannot go back to get it "fixed," because she took so darn much off that I don't want any more cut off!!!! Then it would be a legitimate SHORT hair cut. SO DO NOT just go to ANYONE there....Especially not Diane, she will not listen to what you want and just do whatever she wants to you. It's going to take me six months to get it back to where it was. I'm really, REALLY upset and disappointed. Thankfully, I can MOSTLY get it into a pony tail, which is where it's going to be with a baseball cap until it doesn't look like a kid's bowl cut done by their mom. Turns out he had highlighted this blond's hair and it looked like a baby's hair glistening through the sunlight, none of those bleached out blobs at the roots like you always see. Just really beautiful and natural looking with lots of life and body!
