I ordered the Catfish Platter and a Cherry Limeade cocktail. The catfish and the hush puppies were amazing. The food is very reasonable and seasoned wonderfully. The home made tartar sauce is to die for. The portions were huge so I had leftovers. They were just as good the next day without even heating them up. My friend ordered the Flounder/Shrimp platter, fried green tomatoes and a Cherry Limeade as well. She said they were excellent. Our waitress was very attentive. I visited Myrtle Beach for my birthday January 2022. It was off season so a wee bit difficulty was had in finding a nice locals type restaurant to eat at. I had to go hard to find Bubbas Fish Shack. Go hard as in I went to Red Lobster which was open and found a staff member who said she goes to Bubbas. I called and the owner, I believe his name is Mike, said "we are always open!" This place is super cool looking inside with a dive bar feel to it. The food was excellent, I ordered the blackened mahi-mahi sandwich and it was soooooooooooo tasty! While vacationing in Surfside Beach and it began raining while on the beach, ducked into Bubba's Fish Shack. Since we were hungry, we ate there and loved the food. It was a definite win! They have a good variety of seafood options that won't disappoint - fish, shrimp, crab, etc. Inside the restaurant, it's a true dive bar. Has surfboards and other fishing items all around. Makes you feel like you are on an island at a dive bar. The staff is very helpful and attentive to what you need during your visit. I ordered the all you can eat catfish platter. They gave me 3 huge pieces of fish along with fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. It was so much food I couldn't eat another order of fish. My wife ordered the blackened grouper and fried shrimp with fries. She couldn't finish her meal either. We had a dynamic waitress by the name of Pattie. She was amazing. Food was excellent and hot. We ordered fried pickles and was some of the best on the beach. Not greasy at all. Blackened grouper was excellent, wings were crispy and cooked perfectly. Shrimp platter was just ok as the shrimp has very little flavor or seasoning. Fries were great. Only negative was the service. Our waitress new checked in us during the meal and all drinks needed refreshed. I had to wave her down only to get an attitude from her as we were interrupted her. She was at end of bar drinking something and not paying attention to her table. The place wasn't busy so she had no excuse for not checking on the table. I am a great tipper when service is great. I did leave her a 20% tip but it could have been much better if she would have just been a little more tentative to taking care of the customer. I am not sure she would last long as she can't make any real tips without giving good service. Overall we will continue to support Bubba's. We have been going for years and this was by far the worst service experience. But food was excellent. Nice little "hole in the wall". We went for a small lunch. Had some simple eats but they were really good and came out really quickly. Our waitress was really great, checking on us constantly. I even grabbed a Bubba's t-shirt; I like to do that occasionally at local places when we're out of town. And Bubba's is really easy to find and get to. Main central area in Surfside has about a half dozen restaurants, all on the same block. You can't miss the big Bubba's sign. We'll definitely go here again if we're back in town!!! read more

We started with our drinks and hush puppies. The drinks were cold and the hush puppies were luke warm but delicious. My daughter had a very good burger. My wife ordered barbecue and while the pulled pork was good and the baked beans were delicious, the ribs were mediocre at best. I ordered the Captain's platter and there were some issues to say the least. The shrimp were clearly very old and had no heat left in them. I complained and they were replaced. The catfish and hush puppies were absolutely excellent. The flounder was missing, I complained, and it was brought out. The French fries were cold and old and I was so tired of complaining that I just covered them in vinegar and ketchup and ate a few. Our server was awesome and I had no complaints. read more

It is what it is. Bubba's is a great place to take the kids of you are in SURFSIDE looking for a family friendly place. This is mainly a fried seafood joint using all frozen seafood, confirmed by our waiter. They do offer grilled and blackened on most items, but 90%. The interior has that quaint dive look, paper table cloths, plastic cups and utensils. I ordered a fried platter with grouper and shrimp. The platter came with hush puppies and fries. Nothing was greasy and was ok. Two in our party opted for the grilled Mahi. The portions were good but the fish came out dry and over seasoned. On a good note, our server (Darren?) was awesome and honest! However, the young hostess was just rude, and not only to our party. Bad for anyplace to have employees with bad attitudes at the front of the house. If your looking for really good seafood, head over to Murrells Inlet. If you want to skip to me talking about the food, jump to this symbol in my review because I ramble a lot: @ I came here as a teen the first time per my first review and I've visited again recently on May 11, 2021 around 2PM (You'll be doing yourself a favor by coming as early as they open. Due to reopening, people will RUSH here at dinnertime and you'd have to wait about 40-60 minutes for a free table.) Although I am fully vaccinated, I was very pleased to see the precautions taken during these troubling times. Tables were socially distanced and, after a group would leave, someone would immediately clean their area and place another disposable coloring sheet on the table as always; which I loved to see that they kept this about them! They're severely understaffed due to the pandemic no doubt and they're limiting occupancy to be able to accommodate those who dine. Don't even think about taking out food to-go either; you either dine in or you get nothing. That's how dire it is right now. You used to be able to bring a marker and write on the outer pillars of the restaurant, but when I came back 5 years later, the old messages and names and years were painted over :( It was kind of sad because it gave the place this feel of familiarity and warmth. Luckily, they didn't paint over the writing inside the building itself! @ Anyway, you're here to read about THE FOOD: I asked my server if they had a drink on the sweet side and she recommended "Tito's Baybreeze" and it really hit the spot for me! The pineapple is very strong and it makes for a great drink that's both not too sweet and not too bitter! I ordered a basket of onion rings, 3 hush puppies, and a basket of Bubba Lo shrimp (buffalo shrimp lmao). I also shared some Chili Glazed Shrimp with my mom! The onion rings were hot, crispy, and flavorful. It came with some sort of seasoned ranch and that was kind of on the salty side for me. I chose to dip it in regular ranch instead. The Bubba Lo shrimp was to die for and they weren't stingy with how much you get either! The Chili Glazed shrimp, which was the star of my meal in my first review, was as delicious as I remembered. More sweet than spicy, but I have a huge spice tolerance. It wasn't overly sweet! Overall, I would've loved to go again and again here while I was in Myrtle Beach, but there's so much to see and do that it seems I can only taste this place once every few years :( I'm so happy they were able to stay afloat during the pandemic because I look forward to coming back again....hopefully sooner than later! read more

Great food, which actually comes from next door at J. Peter's. I love their French Dip and usually always order that. My friends order other food and have always been pleased.'' They have great music with a band called Sweet Tea, every Sunday afternoon and evening from 3 - 6:30. That's the reason we started going there and we go just about every Sunday. This is an upstairs shack, fishnets and bobbers on the ceiling kinda place, with a roll of paper towels standing in for napkins on each table. Big wait staff that knows what they're doing. Our New England clam chowder came with herby celery and parsley supporting the wonderful clamminess. We ordered fried scallops, mahi-mahi, catfish, oysters, a crab cake dinner, and a kid's cheeseburger for my 10-yr old. The crabcake was about as good as the one we had for twice the price somewhere fancy the other night. Mahi-mahi was excellent. Scallops were small but delicious. Oysters were pure perfection. And the fried catfish was the best we ever had, hands-down. My son's cheeseburger was plain but tasted better than it had to for kid menu fare. Our server used to work at a different place, but he quit because the food was better over here, and, he said, it's important to serve better food. Plus he likes it himself. Why five stars? Once again the Devine Group hits a home run. We always go to Bubba's Surfside while we are at MB. After seeing that a Bubba's opened across from Broadway we decided to go there even though the reviews were not as good as would have thought. Decided to check this place out based on the good reviews on Yelp! It definitely lived up to the positive comments. We went at prime dinner time and were seated within 20 mins. It's a quaint place with a neat local flare to it. Our waitress, Leah was super nice and took our orders quickly. Food came to the table within 10-15 mins. Everything was delicious. Popcorn shrimp in abundance for the Basket option. Fried oysters were lightly breaded and very good. The blackened grouper sandwich had a nice spice to it. The hush puppies were very dense but dipped in the honey butter were delicious. Nice sized portions. Even the kids basket of shrimp. Everyone in our party was pleased with their order. The atmosphere was very nice, busy and boisterous like any beach dine in during the summer season. Palm trees blowing in the wind outside the windows. Stopped by for lunch after spending the morning at the beach. The restaurant, which wasn't too large, was half full so we were seated right away. Service was prompt and our food came out rather quickly. Started with the fried green tomatoes, which I enjoyed. Crispy on the outside, tender in the middle, and seasoned well. Received four thick slices of fried green tomatoes, which when dipped into the cajun ranch dressing, made for a good appetizer. For my main meal I chose the fried popcorn shrimp basket with sweet potato waffle fries instead of of regular fries. The basket came filled with popcorn shrimp! The shrimp were small, but crispy and packed a lot of flavor. I thought the waffle fries were just okay. Nothing really memorable about them. I'd stick with regular fries next time around, although the up charge to the sweet potato fries was minimal. While you wait for your food, play tic tac toe or draw on the brown bag "table cloth" to kill some time. Parking is plentiful in their lot or pay to park in the one of the nearby lots. Definitely would head back to Bubba's when in the area again. read more

This was a delicious stop on the way back to our hotel. I love trying local restaurants while traveling. We were lucky enough to get a table inside at noon during these mandatory limited seating times. The staff was very friendly and checked in with us several times. We couldn't have asked for better service. There were several tempting menu items to chose from but my husband and I were in the same mood so we both ordered the Fried Grouper Finger Big Dawg Platter. I thought I was hungry but it was way more than I could eat. These were the best grouper fingers we had on our vacation to Myrtle Beach. I wasn't dare going to waste what I couldn't eat so I took them back to the hotel for later. I love that they carry local beer. I had the New South Brewing Nut Brown Ale. It paired very well with the food. There was seating outside and inside. The shack atmosphere was comfortable. The menus were taped onto the table which I thought was a great idea and easy to clean. I saw this restaurant on here back when we were planning our trip to Surfside Beach last month, and I thought it looked like a good place to try. So, today we decided to have lunch here. We asked for an outside table and were seated on the deck with a view of the ocean. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. She instantly made us feel welcome and excited to try this place for the first time. We ordered a fried calamari starter, which was served with a jalapeño dipping sauce. It was our first time trying calamari, and we wasn't sure what to expect. But it was very good. The sauce smelled a little wonky but tasted much better than it smelled. For our meal, my boyfriend and I both decided to have the fried gulf shrimp platter. It was the best shrimp we've had in a long time. It was tender and perfectly cooked, not dry like it is some places. It was served with hush puppies, coleslaw, cocktail sauce, and tarter sauce. My daughter ordered the fried shrimp basket with fries. She was also very pleased with the shrimp. My son (a very picky eater) had the chicken fingers basket with fries. He ate nearly every bite of his food and said multiple times that it was really good. Another thing we really liked about this place was that the prices were very reasonable. The fried gulf shrimp platters my boyfriend and I had were just $15.99 each plus tax, and there was more than enough on both to fill us up. The drinks were served in plastic cups that you can keep, which we thought was neat. The staff wore masks and took extra time to wipe down the chairs and tables after they were used. The tables on the deck were spaced apart with plenty of room between them. I assume the ones inside were too, but I don't know for sure because we didn't go in there. If you are in the area, I highly recommend trying this restaurant for lunch and/or dinner. You will not be disappointed. read more
