We are here while vacationing in Surfside Beach. We are not impressed. The first time we tried to visit here it was an hour and 45 mins wait and I'm glad we didn't wait. We got the pickle appetizer which was ok but the breading on the pickles didn't have much flavor and they weren't crispy at all. I ordered the crab cake sandwich which was mainly filler. There was not a lot of lump crab meat if that's the crab cake you are expecting. It was more of a stuffing consistency with a bit of crab mixed in. Not much crab flavor at all. The fries were good though. Service was average for the area, only came back once or twice and didn't write anything down so they forgot several things. Also, they do not serve any draft beer here, cans or bottles only. My husband ordered the wings to eat and he said they were not good and not very crispy. We probably wouldn't go back here if in Surfside again. read more

Just could have been better. Drinks are just sugary no flavor. I would go back for the catfish and crab cake they were good. The fries were mush underneath the food and the shrimp were greasy. It's really convenient if you want to walk somewhere at Surfside beach but if you are looking for really good seafood there are better options to drive to. read more

Food was excellent, our family shared hush puppies and Deep Fried Cheese Bites with ranch Dressing for an appetizer. The Big Ole Bubba Cheeseburger and fries. The burger was cooked perfectly and seasoned. Busy place with seating indoors and out, we chose indoors. The server we had was very friendly but we felt rushed the entire time we ate. We had the check delivered before we even finished our meal. She took our daughter's salad before she was finished and started piling trash on top so quickly we didn't even have a chance to stop her. She did offer to send a new salad home with us and tried to make the situation better. Definitely would eat here again, everyone has an off night, just hoping service will be better next visit. Bubba's Fish Shack was good, long on atmosphere but pretty much what you would expect otherwise. The menu is all deep fried fare with a burger, some chicken strips and a couple salads thrown in. There is a peel and eat shrimp basket available. We were there at about five on a Saturday and it wasn't really that busy but the parking is really sparse. The server was nice but kind of curt on a couple of occasions. Drink special was PBR's for $2.50 a bottle all night. It was good but in a town full of restaurants I will probably just mark this one off and not feel the need to return. read more

The bartender was incredibly slow and clearly didn't care about her patrons. The couple next to me were late for their show. They ordered after me and still ate and left before I got my food. Yes it was a Friday night and busy but the bartender was hardly busy, virtually no drink orders. So disappointing as this place was recommended to us for our last night's meal as we packed up after a great week at the beach. Instead I got to wait an hour at the bar and watch the 16 year old busser sitting in the kitchen pick his nose and play with his boogers. We have been waiting for this place to open for quite some time now and finally we had the opportunity after an appointment to stop in for lunch. There were too many of my favorite things on the menu including blackened grouper and the fried shrimp po-boy, however, I opted for Bubba's house pulled pork. It was only 11 AM so I wasn't that hungry and my friend enjoyed the Bubbas famous fried flounder. It seems they smoke the brisket in the separate barbecue room which was visible to patrons, was pretty impressive . Awesome mac & cheese was my guilty pleasure for the day! Having to cut back on the fried food to keep that girlish figure, I truly wanted to order that fried flounder sandwich, it sure did look good. Oyster poboy had super salty remoulade, fries some were hard and warm and others were just room temperature - left them alone. Cole slaw was served room temp also so didn't eat it either. Upping my review to a 5 cause I'm wondering as I eat here today why I never gave it a 5. It's just so delicious and consistent and the people are always friendly. Today my husband and I just wanted a light lunch and we stopped for a couple of drinks and some fried grouper fingers and calamari. First of all they are both lightly breaded and fried. Not heavy, not overly greasy, delish. Second the sauces. The sauce with the grouper was like a horseradish mustard maybe and it was soo good and the jalapeño jelly with the calamari was spicy and such a good pairing. I had a Tito's cocktail which was yummy and all in all just really enjoyed our meal. I also like that they have paper table covers and paper towels at the table for an easy clean meal. Bubba's was a welcome reprieve to a Thanksgiving week inside a beach house. With a crowd of 20 at about 2pm, we were very greatful they said to come on in and dine...the day before thanksgiving no less. The service was outstanding. Even with 20 people, and many of them children, a drink didn't go dry. We had a mixture of food across the menu from the AYCE catfish to Chicken tenders, shrimp, etc. All was outstanding, brought quickly, hot, crispy, and fresh. Help wanted sign outside as of 10 April 2021. Shoulda known they'd be short-handed and subsequently slow af when it came to just about everything. On top of that, my mom got a shot of vodka that was abysmally short of the 1.5 ounce line. Worst part? There was a mf fly hanging around our table from the get-go. Not to say it was all bad. We went at 4:15 on a Friday night in June and were immediately sat with no wait. We ordered a popcorn shrimp basket and a platter with flounder and gulf shrimp and it was delivered to us SO QUICKLY!
