Took a little road trip this past week and found myself eating lunch here on a friend's recommendation. The shack decor is quaint and fun. Our outside porch seating came with a perfect ocean view. They had the plexiglass up to block the cool December wind. It was very comfortable. We ordered grouper fingers, fried oysters, and a basket of hush puppies. Not long after, the server brought out a barrage of condiments. I love condiments! The tarter sauce was just the way I like it! Perfect Mayo/ pickle ratio! I asked for my fried oysters buffaloed, and they delivered. Everything was perfect for fried seafood. And the hush puppies were perfect! The prices here are a bargain as well. The food is probably the worst I got since arriving in the area. The BBQ reminded me of the kind you get the refrigerator section and my girl friend got a salad with chicken. The chicken looked boiled with no seasoning. I'd highly not recommend. read more

ZERO STARS!!!!!!! My wife and I promptly renamed this Bubbas Shit Shack Because when you eat here you'll have the shits the whole next day. Left there and should've just forced myself to throw up. Everything was bad. Food was super greasy and the grease was old. Drinks were over priced and weak and our server didn't care if we were there or not. I had the hush puppies and chowder. Chowder was warm, not hot and way too thin to even be called a chowder. More like clam soup. Hush puppies were dripping in grease and served with an aioli that came out warm. My wife had the fried flounder basket which consisted of oily fish covered in chewy black skin and soggy fries. Although we hardly ate any of the nasty food we were both sick that night and following day. With so many good reviews we were excited to eat here but regretted the decision almost immediately. read more

The food was ok and I loved the decor but I was appalled by the excessive use of big thick DISPOSABLE plastic glasses and cutlery. Everything is just rolled up in the big paper tablecloths and tossed in the garbage. I'm sorry but I thought we had moved onto a more sustainable lifestyle. The Pina Colada was great! The Buffalo shrimp with bleu cheese -- fingerlicking good! The catfish was fried too lightly for me but they graciously fried me up another. Tip: The best time to find a table is in the afternoon, not long after they open. Just skip breakfast. read more

Worst service in the world. The server kept saying gotcha. Then she disregarded EVERYTHING we said. Food took FOREVER. My grouper was raw, had 3 oysters on the platter, 2 of the meals with fries had ice cold fries and the other 2 meals with fries wer we a different color but hot. Party of 4 ... 2 separate checks. Came to the table with 1 check. Server barely came back to the table so we could mention the food issues and she was not listening to what we said. An order of appetizer hushpuppies did not come put until after she brought the check. She came to the table a few times to say the hushpuppies would be right out. Total BS. People that came in well after we came in rec'd their food, paid their bills and left. The restaurant was not that busy so I can't attribute the service to being busy. Over priced for food rec'd. Would not recommend and definitely would NEVER return. read more

This place is fantastic! The food was delicious! You definitely get enough food to fill you up but not make you bloated. Of course I did have to take some home with me, so I can enjoy more! The hush puppies? Don't even get me started. Those things were to die for! If you want fantastic hush puppies this place has them. I don't normally like deep fried foods but the shrimp had just the right amount of breading on them. I suggest that if it's warm out you eat outside. It is so nice and breezy and a good view of the ocean (it's not ocean front). Our next trip to the beach we will be coming to eat here again! read more

We go here often. it's mostly fried, so if you're not into that skip it, but overall it's good. The staff is usually friendly and sometimes very friendly. It's in a good location near the beach too. We like to eat and then walk across the street to the beach. read more

One one server who worked her butt off to attend to a fairly full house. Started with Bloody Mary's which was shelf vodka with bottled mix, extremely disappointing. Ordered spicy shrimp and grouper bites. I'd give the shrimp and ok but the grouper bites were obviously frozen mushy pieces. One bite of the grouper and my wife put back the rest unwilling to eat. After this bad start we decided to not order dinner and move to another restaurant. With so many places to choose I'd definitely write this one off. read more

First the good: Food was and service were wonderful. I had the big ole salad with grilled shrimp and hubby had the flounder basket. Both were delicious! The server was funny and quick. The price was decent. Unfortunately though (which is why they got 4 instead of 5 Stars) it took 25 minutes to seat us. We had no where to stand except right in the doorway. No one even acknowledged us except to ask us to step aside so the servers could get by. We quickly placed our order but we waited another 30 minutes for our food. After reading a couple of the most recent reviews, I was a little skeptical. But man, am I so glad we went anyway! The fried green tomatoes with Cajun ranch, hush puppies, and fried oysters are a must try! We stopped here for the first time while checking out Surfside Beach. It was a really nice lunch. Very relaxed atmosphere with extremely friendly and efficient server. Mel was great! She gave us perfect recommendations, knew the items on the menu and passed on some nice bits of info about the area. We had the fried flounder sandwich and fried scallops. Great sandwich. Simple, yummy goodness with a touch of oceanic atmosphere! We stopped in during peak dinner time with only 50% sitting due to Co-Vid. The wait was worth it! My husband ate TWO grouper sandwiches because they were so yummy! I had a combo of clams and shrimp and our daughter ate the burger. Everything was tasty even sweet tea was perfect ! We found this place on Yelp of course, looking for food nearby as we sat on the beach. We came in just as it started raining and were promptly welcomed and sat inside. They have lots of seafood options, which was right up my alley, but I was looking for a light midday bite to eat. I ordered the fried catfish basket with sweet potato fries. The food came out quick and nice and hot. I personally like my catfish a little crispier than it was fried, but I looked past that. The flavor was ok, could have used a tad bit more seasoning, but the portion was sufficient. Fries were good, maybe frozen, not the worst. I also ordered the grape vodka mixed drink which was ok, but may be too sweet if that's not your thing. All in all thanks Bubbas for satisfying my seafood craving. Hubby was more pleased with his platter than mine, we ordered the same thing. Oh - they serve the drinks in plastic cups (think Dixie or kid cup), but you can take them with you. read more

Vistes during spring break in the midst of COVID-19. They were very cognizant and took universal precautions. Now to the food. Amazing!! Oyster on half shell very fresh. Also ate fried catfish and flounder. The side salad was so fresh. For it to be a side salad it was filled with a variety of greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, and purple onions. 1st time ever in Myrtle Beach and what do I find? "The best thing I ever ate" - Catfish style....this Fried catfish was unbelievable good. Having this made me realize I have been eating some crap before. The fried catfish literally was melting in my mouth Sooo good. Pros: Fried Catfish, portion sizes on all plates were good. Nice balcony views if choose to eat outside. Waiter service was excellent and the special sauce with horseradish (u have to ask for) is worth it. Yes yes yes. Delicious. No complaints at all. My boyfriend and our kids ordered a variety of items and shared family style. The grouper fingers are so good and I typically don't care for fish. Popcorn shrimp basket is a ton of shrimp!! Bubba-los buffalo shrimp was really good. A little spicy, like a medium buffalo sauce. Fried pickles are really good, but a little bit on the salty side. First time trying this place and thought it was very good. I had the all you can eat catfish which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. My wife had the crabs cakes were we thought were pretty good, not the best but s good. I wasn't a fan of fries and hush puppies but not a big deal in my opinion. We visit Bubbas every time we come to the beach, but today was a disappointment. It's 4:00 and there are 4 tables occupied in the restaurant. They tell us to pick one of three tables and we sit down. We sat there for 8 minutes without anyone coming over to greet us or take our drink order....,while 4 employees stand at the end of the bar laughing and having fun. Bubba's Fish Shack was recommended to us by a local, and I'm so happy we went! It was a crowded Friday night but service was still great, and we were seated quickly. As a party of four, we all ordered something different so we could sample a lot of the menu. The grouper fingers were moist and tasty, with a very mild flavor. Great for the kids and for those who don't like a very fishy taste. The flounder was AMAZING, but know that they fry it with the skin on, and you might find a couple little bones (which are completely edible but some people are bothered by them). The catfish is everything you want, crispy and tender and perfect. We didn't eat many of our fries (saving room for fish) but they were nice, pretty typical. The coleslaw is vinegar-based and looked pretty good! My wife got a Son of a Beach drink that she said was fantastic. I would highly recommend Bubba's, and will definitely return! Maybe next time I'll tackle the all-you-can-eat fish! read more

This review would have been higher stars if they had had more than one cook. Apparently they have a shortage of staff that show up for the kitchen. The waitress said they were supposed to have three and only had one. I had a catfish basket. The catfish was very good. Others at the table expressed that their food was decent also. But it was a 45-55 minute wait after the order was placed. The waitress checked on us twice in that time. When we arrived and asked for a table outside, there weren't any available. But we were not offered the opportunity to wait for a table. Within 10 minutes of us being seated inside, there were two tables available outside. I think at least outside it would have been a better experience while waiting for the kitchen. read more

I ordered the peel and eat shrimp. It was awful. Not split so not easy to peel, overcooked, and not deveined so it was so gross. I didn't eat one of them. I would think for $17 it would be deveined at least. Very small bar. Server said she could not make a lemon-drop martini. No draft beers either. Had fried pickles for app, definitely just frozen and dropped in fryer. I guess for the long wait I would have expected food to be a lot better. Son had Caesar salad, very soggy.
