Bubba's 33....the food is good, but not great. After all, it is a sports bar.
As I drove into the parking lot at Bubba's 33 I noticed that the lot was fairly large. Not many parking problems found here unless they are super busy. As I approached the door I heard really loud music being pumped out into the parking lot. As I stepped inside the front door I was immediately greeted by an overly enthusiastic host who led me to a comfortable booth. His demeanor seemed programmed and a bit artificial, but ok it was all good. Inside the venue is a bit dark but very clean. There is a variety of seating options from bar bench seats to bar stools to many comfortable booths. Large tv's of course cover the walls. The ambiance was quite nice except for the extremely loud music. The music inside made it difficult to converse with my waiter. The young man serving my table was pleasant and efficient. He also seemed well trained to be pleasant, conversational, and helpful.
The menu at Bubba's 33 is outstanding for a sports bar with a terrific selection among appetizers, drinks, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, burgers, and full dinners. Prices are a bit on the high side yet reasonable. Of interest is the fact that the prices on certain meals really drop down the last two hours of the day...say after ten or so. Worth checking out if you are a night owl.
Today I ordered the big half pound bacon guacamole burger with the seasoned fries. The waiter asked if I wanted some "Bubba Sauce" with it and I said I would have some to check it out. It was ok but nothing remarkable. The waiter asked if I wanted my burger done MEDIUM WELL. Apparently that is the standard. I said, yes, that would be fine. After ordering the meal was on my table in about fifteen minutes.
The seasoned fries had very little seasoning on them. They were on the thin side and a bit crispy. To tell the truth they were not great...kind of just there. They don't come close to the seasoned fries served at Five Guys and many other places. The burger bun was soft and didn't have much flavor. The meat was not highly seasoned and had little flavor. The bacon on the burger was very thin and had very little bacon flavor! The burger was supposed to have pepper jack cheese on it but I couldn't detect any. See photo! The real problem with the burger, however, was that there was a lot of pink throughout the meat. It was certainly not medium well...sort of just south of medium. There have been complaints by other Yelp reviewers about the UNDERCOOKED BURGERS! I found this the case here today. Over all, I would judge the fries to be a "C" and the burger about a "B-." It really did lack seasoning and flavor.
Other people dining at Bubba's 33 rated their shrimp Po Boy ok and the pizza good.
Bubba's has quickly become the top sports bar in Las Cruces. If you go you will find a nice broad menu, a clean, nice ambiance, a lot of loud music, good service, moderate prices, and food that is a little uneven....good but nowhere outstanding. Rate the over all dining experience about THREE-and-THREE-QUARTER STARS.....meaning somewhere between above average to good. read more
