I ordered the Belgian waffle, which was honestly the highlight of the meal--soft, warm, and delicious. The scrambled eggs were also good, cooked well and flavorful. Unfortunately, the turkey sausage tasted like it had been frozen and quickly reheated on the pan, which took away from the plate. And while the eggs themselves were fine, the water served tasted noticeably off, almost like water from a garden hose, which was disappointing. It seems like it's a place for a more mature crowd, but it was really good vibes. The menu items are reasonably priced I thought - for the options. Echoing another review, I wouldn't really recommend this place for breakfast. The food is forgettable. Country Fried Steak & Eggs - I got this with the Sunset potatoes (breakfast potatoes), and tortilla. I ordered my eggs over medium, but I guess they can't cook eggs right because the yolks were all runny. None of the yolk was set. I didn't want to send back my plate, but I was certainly irritated. The homemade sausage gravy was thin with small pieces of sausage, but wasn't exactly flavorful. The country fried steak was one of the better components of the dish-the breading had a great crunch and the meat inside was tender. The Sunset potatoes had crisp edges and a soft fluffy inside. The tortilla was a standard service industry tortilla (I saw a Sysco truck nearby unloading in the parking lot when I went into the restaurant) so I can't say too much about it. read more

My server came by to check on me several times to make sure everything was good. My A la Carte bacon, avocado, and egg were delicious. The coffee was hot and aromatic. I enjoyed this meal while overlooking their gorgeous golf course. I was very pleased with my experience here. The food and service were excellent. My breakfast came to $10.13 which I thought was reasonable. I'm looking forward to returning and trying their lunch and dinner menus. I had dinner with a date at the Sunset Grill. The ambiance is nice and not at all pretentious. Prices are moderate. The service was professional and very pleasant. The pasta Diablo was good and quite spicy. The Flat Iron Steak with chimichurri, mashed potatoes, and asparagus was delicious. We ordered lobster ceviche and were disappointed that it was almost shredded, much like lump crab or sumari. It would have been nice with rock lobster or similar lobster meat with better form, bite and taste. We had the 28 ounce ribeye medium rare. It was beautiful but over cooked, definitely medium to medium well only a small pink very warm center, clear juices. The mashed potatoes were too salty to eat. The asparagus was nicely cooked. I do not recommend this place at all. The service is very quick and great if that's what you like but do not except to be visited much else. Each of the meals came with very dry meat and overall were just hard to choke down. The one good thing I have to say about this place if the fries are actually tasty unlike all the other food they sever here. First things first: FULL BAR! And one of the best bloody Mary's I've had since moving to LC. And they had two of my favorite Scotches behind the bar! It was a brunch gatherine...so I stuck with the bloody Mary. We had a large gathering where we reserved a banquet room off the main dining area. Probably 50 or so of us. We had a nice limited menu of selections from the kitchen. Cheesburger was tasty, Reuben was better (ask for extra 1000 Island). Fries were fantastic. Salads looked great and were huge. The banquet service was attentive and quick. There were at least 3 servers in our conference. All of them filled water and brought condiments quickly. Servers do need to be taught how to serve from the left and not ask diners to pass stuff down. But I'm being picky. I would certainly go back for a regular menu meal. We had reservations for the weekend of Christmas. No one was at the front to seat us. Finally when seated, no silverware or napkins on the table. The atmosphere was really lacking. The food was not cooked as requested. The waitress was the worst. Never smiled or even looked like she was interested in her job. She wasn't busy and you could see her just standing- but took forever. After a long while she asked about drinks. She brought our food and said "do you need anything else?" Ah silverware and napkins would be helpful. Duh! It has potential IF someone cleaned it up, got some people who made you feel welcome and listened to your order. Not a fan. read more

I've now been coming to Sunset Grill for almost 7-years, since moving to Cruces. We have learned that you ALWAYS need to bring a jacket because it is always incredibly cold inside the restaurant, and we also learned that we can enjoy 1/2 of wine on Mondays (Yes! You read that right, per glass or bottle). HOWEVER, on our last visit, we were disappointed in how they are handling the COVID situation. We were seated by the fireplace where we had a a great view of the restaurant. In fact, we were the only ones sitting in the restaurant for the first 1/2 hour we were there. Then, with the rest of the dining room empty, they brought in a family and sat them directly next to us. Another family came in and was seated directly next to them. There we were, 3 groups seated side-by-side instead of separating us throughout the dining room. They should know better by now. Despite an image on the door that a mask MUST be worn when coming in, we watched group and after group come in without them, as well as individuals. Of course, after sitting without masks on for the 1.5 hours we were there, when we left, we walked out without them on as well. Even those of us who follow the MANDATE forget. Perhaps servers could greet customers and let them know that due to the MASK MANDATE they need to wear masks when walking around the restaurant or to the restrooms and when they bring customers their credit cards/change following payment, gently remind them to wear them on the way out. They may get some grumbles, but they don't need to stick around and listen to them. It appears that businesses are more concerned about being chewed out by someone who doesn't agree with the mask MANDATE, than protecting their customers and staff. If we don't feel that a restaurant is doing all they can to protect us during such a challenging time, then we will simply stop going. We will miss the blood orange lobster ceviche and calamari, but until such a time that mask MANDATES are no longer in place, we'll have to skip it for now. read more

Daytime Servers in Desperate Need of Adult Supervision The Sunset Grill came highly recommended to us when we moved to Las Cruces about 8 months ago. Those recommendations proved to be true. The atmosphere was cozy, the food was good, the staff was friendly and attentive. We've eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner in the past and have not been disappointed. However, something has seriously shifted in the past few months - primarily with the morning staff - that prompts me to write this review. On Saturday 1/22, we stopped by for lunch and were seated in the sunroom area that overlooks the golf course. We waited and waited and finally our server Daniel showed up to take our drink orders. Again, we waited and waited until we asked another server to take our drink orders. Drinks eventually showed up and our orders were taken by Daniel. We had to ask again for extra napkins and condiments to our meal, anchovy for the salad had to be requested a second time and malt vinegar for the fish and chips never arrived. Close to the end of our meal, we heard another server apologizing to other guests that the service was slow due to a large party in the main dining room. Why should that make a difference? Why should other patrons suffer with slow and inattentive service because you have a 'large party' in the main dining room?? By the time we were ready to pay our bill we had to search out Daniel. Again, another waiting game. On Friday 1/28, we returned to Sunset Grill for breakfast thinking that weekday service may be different from the weekend. We sat at the corner table next to the fireplace and Daniel was our server. Upon arrival there were two tables occupied, one with a party of 2 and the other with a party of 4. We ordered breakfast and our coffees were delivered promptly. Unfortunately, this was the only highlight of the meal. While waiting for our food, we tried getting Daniel's attention to top off our coffee = nothing. We tried getting one of the other two servers' attention as well but without success. 15-20 minutes after placing our orders the food arrived and Daniel refilled our coffees. We were at the restaurant for at least an hour. During the entire time, Daniel and the two female servers sat at a 3-top bistro table chatting, paying attention to their phones, and socializing all in full view of customers. Not a good optic. The other two tables left about half an hour after we arrived and for the next half-hour, we got to see and smell their dirty dishes and glasses. Not one server bothered to bus the tables. Daniel came over to us once asking if we needed anything. By that time, we were so disgusted we just wanted to finish our meals and go. Shortly before 11, lunch customers began to arrive and still no action on the two dirty tables. By the time 11 a.m. rolled around, the hostess (blond young woman) arrived, and she bussed the tables. No matter what the profession, there is always something for staff to do. Sunset Grill servers/staff can begin by sweeping the disgustingly dirty floor beneath the tables between services, followed by cleaning the filthy interior glass windows and French doors of the restaurant. The dining experience includes not only the food but also the service. The population in Las Cruces is growing dramatically and one of the first venues people seek out is dining. Currently, there is a huge disconnect between the service and the food at Sunset Grill. One caveat I will say is that our dining experience during dinner service has been very good. We've never had to ask for condiments, extras, etc., as our server has been one step ahead and proactive. read more
