I'm giving 3 1/2 stars. I think it's a great rating. This place has great reviews and loads of 4 and 5 star ratings. Which I get in a smaller town setting. If lived in Brandon it would also be a four Star place to me as well. I do not believe that Brandon has any four or five star restaurants. So let's get to the review. The staff was so friendly , helpful and made my family feel welcome. I ordered the pulled pork with sweet potato fries. I really wasn't expecting too much of the pulled pork but it came out phenomenal. I didn't not even need sauce it wasn't dry. I'll be back for that. My sweet potato fries were perfect, not soggy at all. I would have liked a marshmallow dip or sprinkle of powder sugar for them. Sweet potato fries definitely deserve to have their own dip. My sweet tea was fresh like a gift from God. My daughter had the same order and liked hers as well. My husband had chicken, which he said was good. We all enjoyed the different sauces too. As another reviewer stated, I would steer clear of the macaroni and cheese. Seriously! The friend green tomatoes are a good option though. Picture it it's 8:45 you, your boyfriend and child are hungry. Dinner didn't get taken out and fast food is just too played out. You pass a little hole in the wall that is calling your name. You begin to drool. You pull up and you see the pork sandwich special $6.99 for a side, drink and juicy pork on Texas toast. You begin to drool uncontrollable. You walk in and see the joint is empty great for introverted people! Probably because normal people don't eat dinner 8:45pm on a Thursday. You are greeted with a friendly smile and you say "we never been here" they tell you the specials and what's good. We ordered up and we decided to stay as eat in. We waited not too long and were served. Oh no our pork sandwiches are cold. Darn it. We go up and ask for them to nuke it for a min hey it happens right? Not a great first impression but!!!!! Then this happened. We got those cool sandwiches to go and we got two new hotter sandwiches. Not as hot as I would have liked but hey I got tomorrow's lunch for free. All of us togeather had sides of Baked beans 5 star sooooooooooo good! Mac and cheese 2 stars TV dinner-ish Slaw- 1star too tangy but it's rare I like slaw The star of the show the meat. Sauces galore. The proteins are tender and flavorful. The sides are pretty decent. But, it's all about the sauce. Vinegar, mustard, tomato, sweet, spicy, etc. Whatever type of sauces you want for your protein, they have it. And they are good. Only type missing is mayonnaise or white sauce (but who eats that anyway outdoor of a few counties in Alabama?) The pricing is very reasonable and they have daily specials. Note: I normally can't stand the toasted sandwich bread at most BBQ joins because it is drenched in butter. BubbaQue was still heavy on the butter but within reason. read more

From the outside, this place looks promising. Inside, it's clean, large, and welcoming. I tried the pork sandwich which came with a side; I chose mac and cheese. The bread was cold and would have been much better warmed. The meat was just ok, have tasted much better. The mac and cheese isn't what I expected from a BBQ joint. It was more like Kraft. Finally was able to try Bubba for lunch........and dinner. I ordered a two item plate, basic cost, $13.99. A little steep but BBQ has been getting more expensive as meat costs more. My two items, beef brisket and baby back ribs, two sides, fries and Mac n cheese and a small fountain drink. $23.00. I said the sign says 13.99. Yes it does, ribs are an up charge. I should have walked or just ordered something else but honestly, it took me by surprise. When my plate arrived I got a half rack ribs, about a half pound of brisket, a heap of fries and the Mac. I knew right away this was more than I can eat. The best first. This is probably the best brisket I've ever had. Butter tender, melt in your mouth with great flavor enhanced by a choice of Bubba sauces. I liked the Alabama Slama best as it had some heat to it. The ribs were bone tender. Not quite as good as the brisket. The fries were some crazy mini crinkle cuts. I'm older than dirt and I've never seen fries like this, ever. Don't care if I ever do again. They were hot but meh. The Mac n cheese was forgettable. And you get a Texas toast. I only ate two ribs so I'm having them for dinner too. Bubba's is just not that good to justify this kind of price.....its crazy. I've mentioned before that I hail from the land of BBQ (Memphis) so when it comes to pleasing my pig palette I tend to be very critical. For the price, Bubbaques is a deal. They always have a special and two for Tuesday is a nice dinner incentive. I ordered the Redneck Nachos, which weren't nachos at all, but rather fries smothered in cheese, bbq brisket, & their home sauce 'tractor grease'. My favorite thing abt Bubbaques in the sauces! No less than 9 to choose from on the table ranging from sweet to tangy to spicy and smoky- experiment away to your tastebud's desire! Tractor grease was actually my pick. Let me start off by saying the positive: the Texas Brisket is legit. I should have got that and only that. Everything else was terrible. The macaroni n cheese was watery, the fries tasted like what you'd buy at s grocery store, and shrimp was really greasy. Like I said, the brisket was good but they only give you three slices. I decided to use Babbaques for a block party I had at my house w/ about 40 people- completely based on reviews I read. I have never eaten here before. I can tell you every single person told me it's the best BBQ they've ever had and I agree. Wow- everything was amazing. I had everything delivered and it wasn't just a drop of and go- the guys set everything up beautifully and didn't let me lift a finger. They were very courteous and respectful. This place is a mixed bag. The meat is actually pretty well done, and one of the few places that does a decent rib (I'm not a fan of dry ones). The brisket and pulled pork is also done well, but not amazing. But the sides... holy crap they are atrocious. It's almost like they are thrown on as an afterthought, like when they were creating the menu, they thought that half decent meat and an over the top kitschy backwoods vibe was enough. To be honest, I had low expectations before arriving. This place has... a less than inviting location. However, upon entering the staff immediately greeted us, smiling and kind, asked our names, then casually informed us "first-timers" about the various deals they offer. Good prices too. They took our order, then asked us to take a seat, they'll serve us our food. While they prepared our meal, I took in the decor. From the comical vintage signs, to the camo toilet seats over the trash bins, to the "preciate it" sign over the exit, the theme was complete. Food came quickly, and I noticed their 7 different types of bbq sauce. Each with personal, unique names. Afterward, the waitress even bussed our food for us. It's ok BBQ for the money. It's certainly not the best that I've had but not the worst either. It's reasonable price and they give you your moneys worth of food. 2 can dine for around $15 which is easy on the wallet. We frequent this BBQ place - good pulled pork sandwich for the the price. FF and drink included - kids love it. Took Dad with us and price doubled... literally. A combo platter is $14.99 with a $5.00 up charge for ribs. $8.00 for baby back ribs. Not a good deal as the food is not worth $20.00 a plate. Service... The place is small so you immediately see someone when they walk in the front door. No greetings, no acknowledgement. When I arrived at the counter, I was not spoken to just stared at. I had to engage conversation, which is unacceptable for a restaurant. If you want a good sandwich, stop here. If you want a good experience overall, keep driving. read more

I am a bit of a BBQ snob...as is most everybody who likes 'cue. Bubbaque's is a chain but has some really good pulled pork. Great smoke flavor with a fantastic dry rub creating a very nice bark. Very tender without being mushy. The portions are generous and the collards are the best side. The slaw is ok. Last night I had the ribs. Again, great smoke flavor and dry rub. They were meaty, but on the dry side. I could tell that if I had gotten them when they first came off the smoker, they would have been perfect, with the meat pulling cleanly off the bone, leaving bite marks. Unfortunately, since this is a chain, the ribs have the texture of having sat in a steamer/warmer for too long. Again, very tasty...but dry. A friend from my job recommended this place. Never heard of this place until now. I always craved wings, especially smoked wings. I am an enormous fan for barbecue in general especially wings(flats only though). So I decided just to put an order of 12 wings from this place. They have a variety of sauces you can mixed with your wings. I choose the "Alabama Slamma" its Smokey and Spicy bbq style. They're not your small average size wings like you order from KFC. They're a good size. But I truly have found a new Barbeque spot. I wasn't really in the mood for brisket or ribs at the moment. But regarding wings for an small establishment, this is my #1 choice in Brandon hands down. But I would love to give a shout out to Jackie at BubbaQues. She is one of the assistant managers there and she is very polite and helpful. That young lady did something really nice for me when she didnt have to. My fiance and I recently ate at Bubbaque's here in brandon because we were considering using them to cater our wedding. We had been in contact with them and they told us we could come in for a tasting of the food we wanted for our wedding. When we arrived the service was amazing, they definitely did everything they could to show us how important our business was to them. The manager Lonnie took great care of us answering questions and letting us try different menu options for the wedding. First off, before we came to this place we read the reviews first (good/bad). Some of the 2 star reviews doesn't make sense but we'll get into that in a minute. We are greeted in a very cheerful way and that's always nice. I ordered the Monday special(ribs combo) and the fried pork skins and also buffalo fried shrimp and the total is $26.13. Some people here are complaining about the price but so far it's pretty reasonable. I really don't know what other people expect when paying for good bbq. We got the fried pork skins first and it is a BIG portion. I could've ordered that and I'll be satisfied. Someone here gave this place a 2 star review and one of her reason is because the quantity of the food is huge(crazy reason). We got our food reasonable quick, the buffalo shrimp was really good and was not too spicy. The fries were a nice golden color a need to be salted but I like that, the rids were cooked perfectly and the sauce's complement the rids really nicely. And I also like the side of toast that came with the food. What makes this experience more memorable is the out standing customer service and the cleanliness. Its Doing the small things like saying hello when you walk through the door and the goodbye you get when you are leaving that makes your day a little bit better. Whenever I eat here I always get a kick out of the menu. Humorous menu's are hard to come by these days! While a little on the pricier side of barbecue, the prices are still pretty reasonable. Meat is tender and very flavorful, but I don't really notice due to the amazing sauces this place has! My family always has to pick up a couple Mason jars (pints) of the Ole Yeller and Tractor Grease barbecue sauce every time we order out. Those two are must-try's, I like them so much I haven't even sampled the other ones yet. Staff is decent, no complaints, but nothing outstanding either.
