We ordered the brisket, a pork sandwich, and fried pickles. The brisket plate came with a sweet roll, potato salad, and creamed corn with bacon. They offer a good list of sides, and I chose fries with the sandwich. The portion of meat was generous, and the cole slaw on the sandwich was just right. I'd order it again without the bun -- it was bigger than I prefer. The brisket was flavorful and juicy. The potato salad and corn both had good, solid flavor. The roll was fine, nothing special. The fried pickles were a miss. I didn't care for the coating, and they were extremely greasy. I threw them away. All in all, it's a great place for dinner. Good food at a good price. BBQ: meat is really succulent. Tried both turkey and pulled pork on the Belly Buster sandwich. This comes with one side, sweet potato fries with cinnamon sugar for me! Bun was a little dry maybe because it was lightly toasted. Two sauces to choose from: original and sweet. Went with sweet which has a great taste but a tad runny. Fries were good and plentiful. Service is excellent. Employeee are friendly, this is Plant City of course. Drinks were readily filled. Food came out quick even with a packed restaurant. Original wait on a Friday around 6 was 25 minutes. Closed on Sunday for family time! Perfect spot to come if you're in town for the Strawberry Festival. Parking can be challenging and is a bit of a cluster. It is next to a commercial operation with employee parking, dumpsters and semi trucks everywhere. It also shares space with Fred's Market, another long-time southern all-u-can eat restaurant. If you can't find parking around the restaurant there is always diaganol parking along N. We were in the area and I saw that this place had good reviews and been around a long time. Advertised as a local favorite so we had to try. I thought it was just ok. Staff was friendly and we were seated with no wait even though the place was packed. Greeted by our server and order taken quickly. Took a bit for the food to come out but when it did, the food was hot. I had the sweet tea as my drink and that was pretty good. For food, I had the catfish with okra and green beans -- catfish had absolutely no flavor, okra and green beans were ok. I also had the fried green tomatoes which was the winner of the food. Hubs had the smoked sausage with coleslaw and collards. He said his was good but the place back home is better. Johnson BBQ in Plant City was a solid lunch choice today. I went with the Elton BBQ sampler plate...and it's a lot of food! The ribs were tender with a light, sweet glaze. I ordered the wings dry rub, but the seasoning didn't come through much, so I added sauce for more flavor. The turkey breast leaned a bit dry and could benefit from something savory like a garlic butter drizzle. The brisket had good flavor but tasted like it may have been sitting for a bit...possibly from the earlier lunch rush. Now for the sides. The collard greens were hittin'! Fresh, savory, and packed with flavor plus bits of chopped pork. The fried okra was decent, though a few pieces were overdone; a little ranch helped. The sweet potato soufflé was the standout...almost dessert-like and a perfect balance to the salty BBQ. Definitely grab the honey butter rolls to-go. Kailea, our server, went above and beyond with recommendations and service. They also run BOGO BBQ tacos on Tuesdays, which is a nice bonus. My wife and I stopped in for lunch three times and enjoyed it all three times. She loves the catfish and chicken blt with greens and baked beans. She gave both 9.3. I have had the southern fried chicken with slaw and fried okra. Them the brisket tacos and the pig Mac sandwich with sweet potato fries. All was delicious and outstanding. After living in Tampa for 30 years, I finally tried Johnson's Barbecue and it is the best barbecue I've had in the Tampa Bay Area! Beef brisket and ribs so tender you barely have to chew. The restaurant was clean - no sticky or greasy surfaces - and our waitress Haley was super friendly and quick to bring out our order. It's well worth the short drive out to Plant City! read more

Opened in 1954, this is the original hometown spot with all the charm, ambiance and warmth of the area. We loved the brisket tacos (two or three) with chipotle sour cream and salsa. You pick the taco meat. Wet Wings, secret local sauce, and Dry Rub wings with salt, pepper and local hi e green spices a must. Pork ribs are an absolute favorite. Open Mon. to Sat. 11 am to 8:30 pm. I hadn't been here since before covid and was happy to see they were still around. The Pig Mack sandwich and collard greens were great. The greens weren't mushy and were a good mix of bitter and sweet. Staff was nice and efficient. One that comes to mind is the Pig Mac, it's pulled pork, smoked sausage, cole slaw, pickles, and a fried green tomato. Service is usually quick and friendly. Cute little place off of Alexander St! The inside decorations scream Town's Fav BBQ Restaurant. Food was nothing to rave about. My brisket was overly salty I couldn't even eat half of it. Among other things that would make this review extra long so I wont get into it.. My review truly would've been 4 starts but my two biggest pet peeves happened... working in the service industry I understand when it gets busy and there's many things on the to-do list. Unfortunately, when we walked to the to-go counter to pick up our order no one greeted us nor asked if we were already helped nor acknowledged us for a little longer than I would've liked. Again, I understand busy times but it wasn't busy inside and for sure not short staffed. We ordered two drinks to go as we forgot on our to-go order - and were given wrong drinks (2 drinks cost over $7!). Why are drinks my pet peeve? Because (to me) it can make or break my meal. This is a busy lunch spot! Sometimes parking is hard to find. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They are able to pack a lot of people in but it's never too loud. On Tuesday's they have 2 tacos for $5.99. Service is quick and efficient. The food is amazing. I love the tacos. The onion rings are also massive and hand battered. Some of the best I've ever had. We had the ribs (everyone's favorite) and the wings (these were really good too), and 6 sides-Mac n cheese, cheese grits (yum!) fried okra (perfect) collard greens (delicious) Cole slaw, green beans (meh) and sweet potato fries. We ended the meal with dessert- the strawberry cobbler and banana pudding. Both dessert were not great. Tasted very artificial, which is why I gave 4 stars. Gave us time to figure things out and answered our questions. One thing I liked was they had a large number of sides and none cost extra. So many places up charge you, not here. We got 2 catfish dinners, ribs and pulled pork. Everything was delish. My pork was very good and smoky. They had really good bbq to add. Sweet potato fries were nice and collards were very good. I really enjoyed. I tried some ribs and they were fall off the bone. My son loved them. They do St. Louis ribs. Catfish dinners got double thumbs up. Tender and crispy. For the price of the food I was expecting more and disappointed. I got the fried steak bites and while the steak was tender, I don't understand them needing to be fried. There was no flavor except for the sauce. It's like you have to cover up the food in the sauce they give you to make it not taste bland. I also ordered the brisket and they gave me a salty, chopped mess. I guess moist brisket means a chopped mess because that's what I was served, instead of strips like supposed to. This was the first time it was chopped up for me. The collard greens and green beans were bland, no flavor. I felt like I was eating them from the can.
