I am hardly ever in Tavares, but I drove past this place and new I had to try it out. Staff in absolutely sweet, ambiance is great. Most definitely the best place for lunch in Tavares. They have great out of the ordinary items on their menu. I got two tacos, one with Mac n cheese (of course) and one that was crack chicken with cabbage an each. Their tacos have the option of coming in a lettuce wrap which I absolutely love. Both were delicious. I also had to get cheese curds which were great along with their homemade ranch. The food looked great, but the first bite told us that the food was sitting out forever. I got the Korean BBQ tacos covered in the most soggy veggies I've ever come across. My boyfriend ordered an average build your own burger and there probably wasn't any trace of seasoning to be found. The bun was thinner than my receipt and we didn't even want to think about using the complimentary room temperature mayo that came with it on the side. Walked into the place mid-afternoon exhausted just looking for a coffee. We were greeted and were told to wait a bit and to read the menu. This was the first indication that things were not going to pan out. If a place has a coffee menu that has more than de-caf or regular and different sizes expect to encounter some fool that will pretend not to know what a regular coffee is. My advice is to walk out immediately which was my first instinct. I ignored my gut reaction and fell into the trap having spent too much time looking for any place that served coffee. After a series of inane questions from our 'hostess-detective who was trying to understand the properties of a regular coffee, At that point, the room began to spin, and 'the Twilight Zone' began to play. Out of the frustration this hostess produced by her endless interrogation I blurted out CAFE AMERICANO just to emphasize that I wanted regular coffee that Americans drink. Again I resisted the urge to just walk out. I told her that I was reluctant to order such a thing because it always sux and is made from espresso. She saw my face fall when she affirmed that was her plan but foolishly I allowed this evil scheme to play out hoping to be able to tolerate the concoction. I was wrong. I received a cup of a liquid that bore no resemblance to coffee and was undrinkable tasting like dirty dishwater weak with some foul aftertaste that no amount of sugar or cream could mitigate. I returned the coffee stating that it was un-drinkable and asked again for a regular coffee...and the response...... drip? Yes ....12 oz.or 16 oz....12. But I have to charge you for it. A lively exchange then took place which resulted in me storming out and dumping my putrid americano on the sidewalk and replacing the caffeine boost I needed with an adrenaline rush. This atrocity occurred in the coffee shop section of this burger joint about which I have no basis to complain because we did not eat there. Do not set foot into that coffee shop looking for a cup of coffee unless you enjoy being humiliated by an out-of-touch hostess who seemingly just stepped off a star ship from Zeta -Reticuli. Find a gas station or a donut shop elsewhere. So much for Tavares. Got out of town ASAP read more

Oh my goodness this place is just TOO CUTE. I love it. Everything about it. Especially the food! Yum! I went with the BFD (Breakfast for dinner) burger and had a side of mac and cheese. It was SO GOOD. The burger came between two waffle "buns" and had tater tots, an eggs, cheese, bacon and a sriracha type sauce/aioli. It was super messy and I ended up eating it primarily with a fork, but the flavors were so perfect I didn't care if it was messy. They even serve it with a little cup of warm syrup to put on the waffle buns. The mac and cheese was thick and creamy and was really very tasty. The interior of the restaurant is very well put together and has lots of fun stuff to look at. I really liked the over all look and feel of the place. Service was on point as well, greeting us the moment we walked in the door and saying goodbye as well left. I will definitely be back next time I am in Tavares. read more

This place is not what I knew Tavares by. Now an out-towner, but no stranger to the area having spent my childhood in the area. Was cool to see the downtown retransformed to fit a new mold. A refreshing addition to the local culinary offerings in downtown Tavares. We tried a number of the tacos on the menu, the Where's the Beef Portobello Sandwich, and the charro beans. All were excellent and packed with flavor. We had the tacos in Bibb lettuce wraps so they were harder to eat - ended up using a fork and knife after a few seconds. Next time we'll get them with the tortillas; might as well splurge. The Barbacoa Pork Taco is a new favorite. The KBQ Korean BBQ Taco with mango slaw is similar but sweeter. The Shroom Taco is very savory and the Yolo as well with Ground Beef, Mac n Cheese noodles, and chopped bacon. The Portobello Sandwich is literally two portobellos instead of bread stuffed with an herbed Burrata cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and more mushrooms. Everything is on point here thus far. Add to that the fact that you can wait for your food at Bru Tap next door and then enjoy it with a craft beer and you have a good reason to go downtown when you're near Tavares, Florida. read more

I know this restaurant just opened but it seems they need some work to do. 3 times my family had to send the food back because it seriously tasted like they just pulled it out of the fridge. The fried cheese curds were amazing! Better than mozzarella sticks! The Brussels sprouts were good for Brussels sprouts I guess, I hate Brussels sprouts, but the dipping sauce for them was amazing. The pimento cheese fries were one of the best things I have ever eaten - I added ketchup, but I wouldn't have changed a thing about them. The buffalo chicken and waffles were very good, the waffle was not as crispy as I would have liked, but the chicken was very crispy, so it balanced out. The burger my wife got was not good at all. The burger itself was almost tasteless and cooked to hockey puck style consistency, it was not medium well, it would have been over cooked for well done. I believe it would have bounced if I had dropped it, and nothing else on the burger has a good taste, plus the waffle bun totally fell apart and was unable. This is my favorite foodie restaurant since I've moved to Central Florida! Food truck greatness hands down. We walked in about 7:30 pm on Saturday night to a nearly full dining room. We were greeted by a friendly gal who asked if we were first time visitors and directed us to the menus on the wall and how to place the order at the counter. We grabbed a couple menus and found the last open booth to take a look. From previous Yelp reviews, we went with the 3 tacos for $11. Hubs ordered street corn as well. We each ordered a drink and waited for our food at our booth. The restaurant decor is a cool industrial style with interesting lighting. Nice umbrella tables were outside along the sidewalk for alfresco dining, but unfortunately the bugs were too thick for my tolerance. The food. Have to mention that we loved the spin on the names of the taco choices. I ordered the 'Shrooms, Trailer Park and YOLO tacos. All of them were very good and they don't skimp on fillings. Hubs ordered similar, but ate the rest of mine... meaning I'll order just two next time. The servers stopped by our table numerous times during our stay and offered refills and asked if we needed anything. This is rare in Florida. I think for being a tourist state, it lacks in great customer service. Not here! Hubs couldn't leave without ordering the deep fried Oreos (red velvet & butter cream) They reminded him of our one time visit to the Minnesota State Fair.... nonetheless, he got a to go order for home and loved them. In looking for a good burger, I came across BTW on yelp. What a great surprise! Four of us went on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived to BTW with no expectations, except to find a good burger. We found the most delicious food, fun wall art, friendly staff and decent prices. The menu was extensive, you could even pick a melted Reeces cup or Pnut butter and Jelly burger. I started off with a regular burger made with angus beef, lettuce, cheese, tomato, pickles on a delicious brioche roll. It was fantastic! (I finally have a good burger place in Florida.) My friend selected a waffle that was red velvet flavor with melted Nutella, whip cream, strawberries, white chocolate chips. She offered us each a piece and she was lucky we all didn't eat the whole thing, it was awesome! We heard people raving about their fried oreo cookies and another friend loved their Trailer Park taco. BTW is absolutely amazing. My wife and I live in Tavares and it's our favorite restaurant in town, for sure. They have a sign that reads: "This is not a good place for a diet." Haha! There is definitely some truth to that. But I can tell you that my wife and I eat healthy almost all the time. We have gone keto and avoid carbs and sugar. However, every now and then, we cheat. This is our favorite cheat spot. If we are going off our diet, this place makes it worth it. We highly recommend BTW for great food. Their new options for drinks is fantastic too! read more
