Bru Never Disappoints! I was first introduced to Bru Burger in Indianapolis. South Bend stands toe-to-toe with my local fave. I can always count on Bru Burger for fresh food, great service, and a satisfying meal. The South Bend team tends to be super busy, but also manages to make me feel welcome every time I pop in. I'm a huge fan of the giant onion rings, but the salads are also delightful if you prefer healthier fare. My dream menu item is Heinz ketchup though. Nice and complete menu full of different burgers and bar food. We ordered chicken nachos which were excellent. I'm not a nacho person but these were dynamite, especially with jalapeno peppers. YUM! For those who aren't burger fans, the menu also offers black bean burgers, chicken and teriyaki salmon. I ordered the salmon burger, and it was delicious just as I ordered, not overcooked but rare. 5 Stars! Food was fantastic. We first ordered the triple dip and a beer to start off our evening to watch some basketball on their Big Screen TV's. The triple dip was a great app, the guacamole, the hummus and jam with the naan bread hit the spot, with a craft beer on draft! Their beer selection is pretty solid (one suggestion would be to serve in a chilled glass) The burgers were prepared perfectly, and came out hot! Pretty solid lunch! We were here from out of town with a big group for a football game. We were walking around the campus and looking for lunch. We got here right at opening and were able to get a table right away. I ordered the Viking Farm's Lamb burger. It was pretty solid! I stopped in for late night dinner: I picked some wings which came with blue cheese for dipping. Also what I assume to be a small salad that was with cucumbers, tomato, celery and ranch. The service was awesome and very friendly. If I come back in to town I would def try something different. I also took the mushroom burger to go for a late night snack. The ambiance is wonderful and relaxing. Plenty of seating when I arrived and I was seated promptly. The last I visited, Bru Burger had changed.We used to make it our Sunday after church spot. My last visit took my friend for the first time and her order was prepared incorrectly. She said explicitly she wanted a burger with only onion. The burger came completely dressed with everything. The chicken strips I order were not the same. They were a little darker than usual and looked like corn meal was added to the batter. I noticed the waitress never wrote down the order consequently it was prepared other what my friend wanted. ALLERY REVIEW - Tried BRU recently on a trip to South Bend. Great location, clean, decent bar and a TVs with sports. It wasn't very busy when we visited so we were sat very quickly. The menu is mostly burgers and typical bar-type fare. They do a good job of using icons to list vegetarian and vegan options, and I believe they have a separate gluten free menu. Unfortunately for us, the attention to allergies stops there. Admittedly, we're a little bit of a difficult family due to multiple different food allergies to different people. But burger places are usually safer and an option since you can leave off buns and things, so figured we'd try BRU. So we asked the hostess when we walked in if they had an allergy binder or menu, and she happily said they have a gluten free. When we said it's not a gluten allergy she kinda dismissed us and said to ask the waitress. We got seated and asked the waitress and she tried to answer our questions, but honestly seemed put off and not very interested in helping us. We ended up eventually walking over to the kitchen ourselves and standing there until we were able to talk to a cook manager. They were very helpful and helped us identify some ingredients, and thankfully avoided an issue with one of the kids. If you have allergies I Would suggest asking to speak to a manager right away. Otherwise, considering their efforts to identify vegan and vegetarian options, it would be nice if BRU had an allergy/ingredient binder/menu. Regarding the food, my bourbon burger was just ok. My spouse liked the BRU burger. Best part of the meal were the Fries. Overall it was just ok, so gave it 3 stars. read more

This was a very disappointing experience. I ordered my daughter's food first since she was very hungry, and the waitress said she would come back to take my order. By the time the food runner brought my daughter's food, the waitress had walked by our table twice and still hadn't taken my order. The burgers are sold at California prices in South Bend, Indiana, and they cannot even reach the quality of a local diner's blue plate special. One of the best salads I've had in my life. Seriously. The Valencia salad with added grilled chicken was insane. The goat cheese was superbly creamy, and it meshed so well with the ingredients in the salad that I didn't need to add much dressing (the goat cheese sort of melted in with the rest of the food). The chicken was tender and crisp on the outside, and they didn't skimp on the seasoning. I would recommend adding extra greens (my picture shows that I added lettuce in addition to the mixed greens). My parents had the Cobb salad and the salmon burger, and they loved everything they had. We also got the fries, and it comes with a fancy ketchup - they were extremely crisp but pillowy soft on the inside. Love this place! Recommend coming here during your trips to Notre Dame. read more
