I have waited a year to write this review and I am glad I did. Think about my review before you even think about hiring this scavenger firm (with very suspicious hires). It has taken time to account for the missing and there are MANY. We had a multi-day move with storage. We tipped the moving band of 6 packers/movers (different each day except for the foreman) a few hundred each day. We paid a bonus even though they jammed a desk through a door, damaging the door and destroying the desk. But that's not why I'm upset, however, still to this day. It was the outrageous selective thievery Brownstone Brothers executed over a multi-day move. They stole thousands of dollars of our furnishings AND they were selective. That expensive splurge I made for my husband -- a Gracious Home wastebasket -- that was beautifully crafted? Gone (but not the cheaper receptacles). All the Ralph Lauren Peacock king bedding? Gone (couple thousand just there) but not the older/red Ralph Lauren bedding. My nephew's hand-made writing desk? Gone. An expensive roaster pan, treasured for family meals at holidays? That's gone. So are about 18 other items -- I have the list. Write to me. We're not rich but we lived in one place for a very long time and so we had more to move. Write in 8 months to review for losses if you interview them. Write in 8 weeks. Try 8 days! Better, don't risk this. Replacements costs were sky high due to their not-so petty thefts after Covid. This move was a felony theft on so many levels. And when I confronted the woman who ran the move, she denied it all. Of course. Stay away..... read more

Brownstone Brothers is an exceptional moving and storage company. They helped me move my personal belongings to their storage in June 2022. From the very onset when I reached out to Brownstone Brothers per the recommendation of a friend who used them for all of his moves and storage through the years, I found this company to be courteous, organized, and reliable. First, I would like to thank Halona Hilbertz, the Office Manager, for her guidance, patience, timely responses to my many queries, organization, and support throughout the process. Did I mention patience? She is absolutely fantastic, especially during a process that can be quite stressful to a client who's trying to move. Aside from Halona, her colleagues, the moving professionals, did an amazing job of moving my personal belongings on the day of the move. They were punctual, arriving at my apartment slightly before the scheduled time. I chose to pack many of my personal belongings - over 50 small and medium size boxes, 7 large packing boxes, and a couple of plastic containers. I did leave a few items that I wanted them to insure while in storage to pack. The entire process took only about 1.5 hours and everything was done very efficiently. Besides Jalen, the supervisor, I had the pleasure of chatting a little with Sean. It's very assuring and settling to know that Sean has worked at Brownstone Brothers for over 20 years. Nine years ago we used Brownstone Brothers for a "small" move of some of our belongings from one apartment to another four blocks away in Manhattan. Now, when we had a much more complicated move to accomplish, I remembered that they had been efficient and pleasant so decided to try them again. I am an Army brat and have moved countless times in my life, including in my adult life: once I moved five times in ten years. Moving is a hell that everyone dreads. This particular move was going to be especially difficult: combining belongings from four different locations (storage and city apartment) onto one truck and moving it all to a country location. Even the destination was difficult: two structures, a house and a converted barn twenty yards apart with deep snow in between. And finally, I had to do it alone: my husband had to be out of town for work and couldn't help. Brownstone Brothers was amazing. Halona, in the office, calm and courteous, helped me figure out how to make the move work. On moving day, the five men arrived right on time. They were simply marvelous! Cesar, the foreman, was efficient, a tremendous leader of his team, extremely well organized, and above all, patient, even kind, to me as he made sure every box was labeled for contents and for the specific room at the destination. The whole crew was wonderful: five extremely pleasant men who worked together with the efficiency of a machine. Cesar personally labeled at least fifty boxes from my dictation with his clear handwriting. Somehow they got the things in the apartment packed, moved furniture and boxes from three jammed storage units in different locations, and all into the truck in less than eight hours. I was astonished. I hadn't believed it could be done in one day. The following day they arrived on time at the destination and here we worked closely together to make sure that every object and box went to the correct location. Again, Cesar worked closely with me to make sure every label was accurately read and properly dispatched, while also working with his men to carry countless boxes himself. I got to know the whole crew better: Josh, good humored, using his tall height to carefully wrestle the biggest boxes to where they had to go; Mike, who worked on the truck at lightning speed grouping objects for the others to carry away; another man named Mike, whose charm and easy-going smile made the hard work seem easy; Nurudeen, quietly efficient. And from the previous day, Maurice, who helped sort and move scores of boxes out of storage. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone: they all deserve mention. This is a group of men who have worked together for years. They trust and like one another, are able to work at remarkable speed without dropping or breaking a thing, all with the best possible good-natured attitude. Finally, at the conclusion, the price was exactly as had been estimated by Halona. Moving is hell, everyone agrees. But when this move was over, I was truly sorry to say goodbye to these wonderful men. Thank you to Cesar and to his whole team for turning a dreaded task into a pleasure. I'm a professional organizer and recently had the opportunity to work with Brownstone Brothers and it was an awesome experience. I have worked with several moving companies in the past and none of them has been as organized as Brownstone. It made my job so much easier that the movers were mindful while packing and labeling each of the boxes. This cut down my team's unpacking time and ultimately saved the client money in the long run. I had the opportunity to use Brownstone Brothers for a furniture move of some stuff from my apartment that I need to be put into storage to make space for a baby. It wasn't what I would call a "big" move, but we got to experience their really unique service and I'm excited to use them for our upcoming "big" move. What I did get to see firsthand was that they really do an accurate job of pricing out an estimate, and making us feel comfortable with our options. They helped us navigate what we needed to let our Co-op building know before we took out the Furniture to be replaced with the new stuff we were getting. On the day of the move, their team was excellent. They laid the planks down and even wrapped cushioning around the glass-table which definitely made me feel better! Their team worked fast and it was a relief to pretty much be done within an hour! (Again, we weren't moving a ton of stuff out - just some bigger pieces that we were clearing out). I was thrilled with the experience, and I'm actually excited to use them again to get the stuff out of storage and the overall apartment move. Thank you Brownstone Brothers! Broke my item and kept it in the truck thinking i would not find out and ask them for my item. Then maurice and joshua insisted the item was in my home not on truck. once i ask my wife to go look in truck there it was with a broken leg. thank god i did not sign the waiver for insurance. i will be suing this company , very neglectful with your items. read more

These people are so nice, fast and appropriately priced if not better than any others. It is a long established family business. We moved from a big apartment in Manhattan to Central City Philadelphia, opting to have them pack nearly everything. Nothing got broken and they did a last minute item list check before they left at the end of the day. The move took three days: two to pack NYC. Then they stored our stuff for minimum cost (or it might have been free, I don't recall now) and put our oil paintings in an a/c room at their offices until our Rittenhouse Square Central City Philadelphia was ready for move in, later in the summer. Their team was led by a guy called Aziz. Every one of the movers was diligent, no lazing around--I was amazed by their stamina. We are moving furniture back to Manhattan August 2013 and using Brownstone Brothers again. Since it is a small shipment and we are packing a few boxes ourselves they are going to do it in one day. Price is low at estimate and I found last time they were pretty accurate. read more

Brownstone Brothers safely moved all of our belongings to our new apartment, but they created a lot of extra work for me. We paid to have Brownstone pack and unpack many of our belongings, including many bookshelves worth of books. Originally, all of the books were shelved in order according to subject, time period, etc. But Brownstone Brothers managed to completely scramble them. Similarly, the contents from our dresser drawers were mixed and merged in large boxes. Again, after the movers left, I had to take everything back out of the drawers and spend hours resorting them. In short, the movers created a lot of unnecessary and very frustrating work for me. It would have been MUCH easier, cheaper, and less aggravating, if I had packed and unpacked everything by myself. read more

This company was recommended to me by the designer who's renovating my NYC apartment, and despite a negative review online I took his advice. I am VERY glad that I did. The estimator, Paul came first. He was friendly and quick. The estimate was better than I anticipated, came via email that day, and included Paul's cell phone in case I had questions. I booked the move, was contacted in case I wanted additional insurance (I did), and the move was confirmed with a deposit on my Amex. They contacted my building's management, handled their insurance paperwork and confirmed the date. They arrived at 9AM on the day of the move. Six people, happy, friendly, clean and professional introduced themselves and shook my hand. Maurice, the foreman and Charles, Heron, Aziz, George and Sarah (who makes a detailed inventory). They packed and moved in a very organized way. It was impressive. No radio, no shouting, no trash. It took almost 7 hours (including a short lunch break when they went out). They could not have been more professional and nice. They were glad to include a couple of pieces that were last minute decisions. No attitude. I was happy to tip each worker and they seemed politely grateful for that and some water bottles. I'll pay them the extra to have them unpack when we move back in. read more

The guys who actually do the heavy lifting were mostly terrific. But the reason for my one star review is because of the man who does the estimate for the move who treated me horribly. We were moving just a few blocks away and I told him that I planned to pack most of the folded clothes and the towels in our own duffel bags and as many of the books I could fit in the boxes he left for me. I also promised to pack up the smaller art work and hand carry a collection of remote control airplanes that were fragile. I did all of the things I said I would. On moving day they were short 2 men. The guys told me there had been a problem on another move and that they were sent to a different job. So things went slowly. Very slowly-- especially because one of the men they sent barely spoke English and was constantly misunderstanding the direction that the lead guy was giving him. I called the office in the afternoon to say that things were going slowly and they finally sent more men over late in the day. What should have taken one day did not. The next day the office guy called me and SCREAMED like I have never been screamed at from the first minute of the call. He accused me of not packing what I said I would and literally lost it on the phone. My kids came running into the room because they could hear the screaming on the other end. As soon as I tried to speak he hung up on me. It was completely unprofessional and uncalled for. The guy in charge of my job said they had a really hard time at the other job but that is no excuse for taking it out on me. He called me back yelling again and when I tried to speak up he just yelled over me. He eventually called and left a semi apologetic message. It was a hideous experience with a very angry man. We have moved nearly a dozen times in the past decade and I have never experienced someone like this. It turns out the amount over the estimate was something like $250 dollars. We are moving again but this time I will be calling Celebrity Moving. I hear they are the best. read more
