Just when I thought Bath couldn't get any better, it was at that moment I took a bite of the rhubarb custard at Brown's and spiraled into another, more dreamy, dimension. Was that dramatic? Not so much. It was utterly delicious. There is no shortage of finger licking good food in England (as we in the South would say), but Brown's takes it up to the next level. Everything was incredible- the scallops, the pancetta linguine, everything. The seasonal menu is my favorite part, as I can always look forward to something new on my bi-annual trip. Oh, and don't even get me started on the champagne. Of course it's "top shelf" (or top of wherever champagne is stored), but a tall glass of bubbly pairs nicely with every and any meal so you'd be remiss to not pour one out. As for the atmosphere, it can't be beat. Even in the rainy season. You'll never find a city as quaint and blissful as Bath. That said, the outdoor seating is expansive and a must. The service is particularly nice especially since it can be more of a casual place for lunch. The historical building is beautiful, and I love how the interior mimics the outside fecade in terms of the cohesive nature of the decor. All very simple and elegant in a subtle, historic way. If you're in Bath for even so little as an afternoon, I'd 12/10 recommend heading to Brown's. It's simply dreamy all around!

I came to Brown's during a lovely day trip to the beautiful city of Bath. The restaurant can be summed up as an awful attempt to be posh, but the food is delicious so it's forgivable. What do I mean when I say that Brown's tries to be posh? ~ The fancy atmosphere. ~ The uniform of the waiters (all suited up with perfect combovers). ~ The amount of French words that I can't pronounce on the menu. Unfortunately when it comes to being posh, Brown's offers all of the frills with none of the pizazz. Customer Service: The main reason why Brown's goes from 4 or maybe even potentially 5 stars in my book to only 3. They're a bit inefficient with their service and left us wondering what we should do. We wanted to order drinks and food, but waited about a whole 10 minutes and no waiter showed up so we had to flag someone down. After we ordered our drinks, the waiter walked off while we were mid-sentence about to order food. Awkward.... Eventually, someone else showed up and took our orders. I had ordered a 3 quid starter "Minute of Salmon". I even pointed it out on my menu and my waiter thought that I had said "Smoked Venison" which was a whole 4 pounds more expensive. Smoked Venison was nowhere near the section of the menu I pointed at and I can't tell how they sound similar either. However, I don't like being "that guy" who sends the kitchen in haywire asking them to take things back and just ate the Smoked Venison anyway. Food: Incredibly delicious to be fair to them. My main was Cumberland Sausage & Mash, 3 pieces of sausage with mashed potatoes and onion gravy. Probably solidly the best Sausage & Mash I've had yet. The sausages had lovely caramellisation over the top and were very juicy on the inside. The mash was perfectly creamy and the yummy gravy tipped my happiness over the edge. At 8 pounds, I think the pricing was very fair. --- Overall, I do like Brown's. I think they need to up their service quality a tad bit. After all, good customer service should come first and the posh uniforms should come later. The servers were perfectly nice, but just have them work on efficiency and organisation in order to not leave your customers hanging and wondering what's going on. Once the kinks have been worked out, Brown's will get a solid 5 stars for me. Until then, it's only 3 stars.

Never had a good meal here. Students and tourists. Not a patch on the Bristol Browns which is superb. Maybe it's the management?

They have several local ales on tap and some "Real Ale" cask conditioned for a traditional experience. Sadly, there was no roast beef when we arrived so we'll have to wait for the classic Sunday roast. Steak and ale pie, and a butternut squash pie were good substitutes. This is a popular spot, especially for outdoor seating. We sat inside in a cozy dining room but if the weather is dry outdoors is a nice option. Found this spot from Rick Steves's travel book...and a great pick! Just on the outskirts of…read morecentral Bath, this delightful classic British pub has lovely interior with whimsical decor yet classy at the same time. Service was a confusing at first, but was just swell once we were seated...the leftside is a side is a traditional sit down restaurant service, the right side is a classic pub style where you order everything at the bar, and the expansive outside patio is self service as well, a completely taken over by smokers and vapers like every other European patio. £20 FISH & CHIPS! The fresh beer battered haddock was thick and crispy on the outside, and moist and tender on the inside, perfection!, The chips were pleasant enough, though crushed minted peas were just okay...maybe because they day prior I had some incredible mushy mint peas at another pub. Still a great plate overall! £20 SHORTCRUST PIES...wife went with the Chicken, Leek, and Herb...wonderfully rich and savory, with flavorful scent and warm, buttery pie crust. Lovely! Also came with seared greens, braised red cabbage, buttery mash potatoes, and rich decadent red wine gravy. £7.5 STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING...gooey, sweet, sticky, buttery, and fantastically wonderful!
