Wow! I was finally able to take my wife, son and his girlfriend out for a great dinner in the area! From the appetizers to the bread to the salads to the main course, everything was fantastic. It was nice that you did not feel rushed as each part of the meal came out in order and not thrown at you all at once like some area establishments. The chicken taco appetizers were superb with a nice flavorful heat. The greek salads were spot on and my son, who had the french onion soup was a fan. I ordered the Almond crusted chicken breast with a hazelnut cream sauce over rice which was out of this world. My son said his chicken marsala was fantastic, my wife's tandoori beef tikka was very flavorful, full of spices, peppers and the right amount of heat. As for my sons girlfriend she was not as daring to try something new, but got a huge bowl of fettuccini alfredo which she had enough leftovers to feed her for several days. Our waitress was so nice and pleasant! She was always there for refills and very informative when asked about certain dishes. The friendliness of our waitress would have brought us back even if the food was subpar. So we will certainly be back for another visit! read more

My husband has been here a few times before but tonight was my first time! I'm only in Olean for another week or so but I'll probably go back. Food was outstanding, we had two of the specials!. The drinks were delicious too, craft cocktails at their finest! Best Lentil soup ever and I've had it in Turkey. The service was also amazing! Updated review: Visited this restaurant again and found they had purchased the place next-door and expanded the seating area. Asked them if they had a signature drink which they did a martini which I ordered. It was good but when I saw $12.50 for the price I probably would not have ordered it. The dinner was very good. We ordered calamari but the waiter provided no silverware napkins or side dishes with the appetizer. When asked for napkins he brought us cocktail napkins from the bar, kind of weird. When dinner arrived we did get silverware wrapped in cloths napkins after he realized that we didn't have it. Service was adequate but the waiter was slow to respond with very easy requested items. Previous review: Challenging to find. Wish they had a better sign but after gps and several turn arounds we finally found the restaurant. Read reviews on yelp and have to agree, a very nice restaurant. We had calamari and wrap sandwiches. Very high quality and will stop again soon. Server very attentive and nice. Overall a great visit! Mmmmmm... Home grown from Olean, this town has a few gems and this is one of them! Olean is not noted for culture or diversity but it serves a few taste buds outside Italian and franchised restaurants. Brothers Bistro has a mixed cuisine with an emphasis on Pakistani cuisine. My personal favorites are the chicken shashlik and the chicken tikka. The portion sizes are excellent, I always make two meals out of one from here. The ingredients are fresh and the service is friendly. The chicken shashlik has a spicy tomato base with wonderfully sauteed vegetables and juicy tender chicken served with rice and naan. The chicken tikka is amazing, with tender chicken tasty seasoning. I come to Olean when I visit my family and this is one of the places we always go to, I will certainly be coming back again and again. read more

Went here for lunch with a number of colleagues on the Thursday of a week on the road. Did not hesitate to return on the Friday for another lunch. The food was fabulous. Among the group of eight of us we had a variety of the dishes, including pasta and wraps. No one was disappointed. Everyone was delighted. The space is also fabulous, and the dishes (I mean the actual serving dishes - bowls, plates) are quite funky. The washrooms were worth of visiting. Tonight we had planned on going to a restaurant up the street however with Prom it was overbooked. Decided to try this place and it was amazing. My husband had a steak kabob and he could cut the steak with his fork. I mean normally you pay way more for steak that tender. The service was friendly and what I would call average wait times. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to the bartender that came on duty and had poor pouring technique that allowed the tap to come in contact with the glass and was contacting the newly poured drink as well. Just something that is a major pet peeve from years working in bar/restaurants. read more

Went here on a recent trip to Olean. This place was highly recommended. Some things that make a visit great are not always the food. I walked in here on a Monday night and sat at the bar. A very friendly young lady named Amber came from the floor to behind the bar immedialtely. I knew she was not a bartender, but it was obvious she wanted me to feel welcome and offered to get me a drink. I asked for her recommendation on a Pale Ale and she poured a bottle of Endicottville local brew and it was perfect. I travel for a living and this type of welcome to a single person at the bar is almost unheard of. We chatted for a bit and she was off. Now for the food...first she came out with some fresh bread with olive oil and spices - delicious. I ordered the spicy lentil soup. It was very spicy and extremely tasty, not afraid to really heat this up....I was thankful..... Then the chicken scaloppini. Great lemon flavor with a nice touch of curry spices in perfectly cooked chicken and mushrooms. The rice was the nice basmati rice that I love. It was obcious that this was an indian inspired restaurant, but the chef managed to infuse the indian spices with common itailian and american dishes. It worked for me....ill be back read more

This place changed it's name sometime ago and is now known as Brother's Bistro. It's a gem and probably the best food within 60 miles. The menu roams from classic American steak and potato dishes to seafood and (most delightfully) pakistani/indian. That last category is thanks to the Pakistani brothers who own and run the place. Don't let the outside fool you. From the street it looks like a typical small town diner or bar but once you walk in you will find a modestly contemporary setting that's clean and welcoming. The staff (Amber, Amber and Kevin) are attentive and knowledgeable. I'm not sure how many people in Olean have had chicken tikka or curried chicken but the staff can guide you through the menu with ease. On my recent visit I tried the tandoor lamb chops. Although no real tandoor oven exits in the kitchen the chef deftly fools you with deliciously seasoned, richly moist cuts. The lamb was cooked to a perfect medium rare (the only way to eat lamb). I can't wait to try more of the menu and can't believe such a gem is 'hiding' in quaint old Olean. read more

An Olean first timer I fired up Yelp and found this place. I scoped the nearby restaurants and picked this one based on the menu and live music tonight. The menu was eclectic...I came for the Pakistani, but it has many fusiony choices. I liked the variety of small palates and large plates. I wish i weren't dining alone, we would have loaded up on the small plates to try them all. I picked, with the barkeep's help, samosas and curry chicken. Both were really good and satisfying. Wines by the glass were limited to Berenger labels. I would have thought some FingerLakes wines would have been at hand. read more

Olean is not necessarily a center for culinary delights. So, you can imagine our surprise and delight at finding Chef's Bistro (it used to be called Bistro 188 which I liked better). This place is fantastic, and I miss it. Our son went to St. Bonaventure, and I think we tried Bistro 188 in his sophomore year. After that, we made it a point to stop in on any of our visits to the area. They offer huge glasses of wine (love that!), and their chicken souvlaki is some of the best I've ever had. I can eat their tzatziki like soup, with a spoon; it's that good. In fact, I've never found a tzatziki to compare. Son graduated a year ago and I find myself longing for an excuse to go back to Bonaventure just so I can go back to this restaurant. Okay, I see from Samantha L's review that they no longer have a liquor license, but I hope that means you can BYO. That's even better! One more thing to note: this restaurant used to be owned by the same family as Kabob Kafe in Ellicottville. Not sure that's still the case, but we had food that was just as good at Kabob Cafe. Kabob Cafe isn't quite as cute inside, but dining upstairs, especially on the back deck, is still very nice. read more

My wife and I had dinner there in early July. We both agreed it was a very good place and if we ever go back to Olean we'll eat there again. First we had a couple of very good cocktails. They have a nice bar area. My wife really enjoyed the Bistro Martini. I just had plain old Jack and Coke... it was good too, duh! When we ordered we found it slightly amusing that our waiter was reluctant to let us order curry chicken. He was very pleasant and kind, but I got the impression that some folks in the past had not known much about curry chicken and did not like it. Having had it many times before I assured him it would be fine. In fact, it was excellent and I completely recommend it. The space is small, but they've done a nice job with it. There were a lot of people there, which tells me they've been doing well. They also had a little live music that night and the performer was good - and not too loud, which I appreciated. All in all, it's a nice, unique place in Olean. read more

What a hidden gem! The food here is extraordinary! Ordered the coconut crusted shrimp as an appetizer and they were delicious. Ordered the chili rubbed grilled salmon and expected it to have a little heat, though it didn't have the heat the flavor, was excellent! The portions, though slightly small, were filling and I still needed a doggy bag for my salmon. The service was excellent, and our waitress, Sue was very attentive! The "small plate" of tandoori chicken was excellent and a filling meal which comes with a fresh, delicious Greek salad. The chicken curry was very good as well, tender and moist chicken (not very hot spice-wise if that's what you're into). The rice was very good too. Chocolate cake was amazing but very rich (good to share). Service was friendly but kinda slow waiting for the check, not enough to make me knock off a star tho! What a great experience. My wife and I are from the Boston area and were visiting during the holiday weekend. We tried this restaurant based on other Yelp reviews. What a delightful surprise! The wait staff was perfect - attentive, professional, friendly, but not overly so. I ordered the chicken curry. Now, I've done my share of traveling in south Asia, and I was amazed that this dish was at least equal to anything I had overseas. Remarkably good! My wife's meal was also superb. My family and I went here for dinner the other night and this place is fantastic. It's on the small side and if you're not going early then make a reservation. We started with garlic artichoke cheese dip w/ tortilla chips. This dip came with homemade chips AND plain chips. Ask if you can get just the homemade chips, they are incredible. My son had the chicken parmesan. It had a nice light coating, fried to perfection and the sauce was excellent. My wife had the tenderloin medallions which were cooked perfectly and melted in her mouth. She asked for a side of pasta with alfredo sauce. I can honestly say that was the best alfredo sauce I have ever had. I ordered one of the specials, tandoori seafood which was out of this world. This is my second time here. The first was about a year ago while in Olean. Back in town for work, I suggested this place to my coworker and we wound up being very lucky.
