Terrible food. We sat there for almost 45 minutes before anyone acknowledged us and when we finally said something we were told that we needed to learn patience. We decided not to judge the food on the character of the server (who we found out later on was the owner ) but still try to enjoy the food but when we finally got our food almost half an hour after that the food looked nothing like what they advertised. When my wife pointed out to be what looked like rat droppings I brought it to the owners attention and he jokingly said "it adds flavour then laughed. This place is amazing and I'm so sorry that I've passed it by so often. I had one of the best strip steaks ever with a side of impeccable garlic butter noodles. Totally worth $24. My sister and I split the steak and the delectable shrimp scampi. Eight fresh, plump and perfectly seasoned. My mom enjoyed her fisherman's platter so much she didn't share and the kid's size spaghetti and meatball was more than enough for my little cousin. You could tell most of their items were homemade. First time in Olean. Asked some people around town. Mickeys was recommended.. Walked in during lunch. So we had limited time.. We sat down. It wasnt that busy. Filled with many elderly ladies.... We waited 10 mins and noone came over.. We had to grab a waitress... We waited for menus.. All of us ordered 3 burgers and fries.. Not a big deal.. Should come out quick. Right?.. Nope... We waited 45 mins for 3 burgers and fries... We had to and ask them to box it up.. Which they weren't too happy about.. We asked separate bills. It took the waitress/cashier 10 minutes to cash out. She was dealing with some elderly ladies having problems separating their bills.. She was not happy...but showed patience.. Needless to say... Mickeys won't be the first in my list to eat in Olean.. Mickeys is an average place where many local townspeople gather and enjoy good food, drinks and TV. There isn't much that is spectacular and the interior is close to outdated. However, it is a hot spot. Food: Our group ordered the Fried Walleye, seasoned tilapia, and sirloin steak. Presentation isn't a priority here however the food looks tasty. But looks can be deceiving. The seasoned tilapia, or should I say seasoned salt, needed more fish. My tongue nearly shriveled up once this fish landed onto my poor tongue. Easy there fellas, hypertension is the leading risk for heart attacks. The Fried Walleye had too much breading and not enough fish. There was even some bones in there! Offer a warning before serving bones! There wasn't much flavor here either. The sirloin steak was more like sirloin cardboard with steak flavor. It was a tough chew and lacked seasoning. There wasn't anything that was served to us that made me reach for more. I only finished so I wouldn't look rude. Service: Mediocre. Our waitress have terrible laughing fits. I wonder is she was high or something similar... Valium? The food came out quickly but probably could have used some extra time back in the kitchen for a second look. Interior: Outdated and uncomfortable. You can picture an Applebee's from the 80s. It's pretty bland just like the food. One plus that grants it a additional 3rd star was the Sriracha sauce. I took a family group of 12 yesterday for dinner. There were 3 tables being served when we arrived. We all ordered and got our beverages fine. The issues began forty five minutes later when we began getting portions of our meals, served separately and cold. Example... I ordered a strip steak with garlic mashed potatoes. I got a "cold" steak and the waitress advised my mash potatoes are being made fresh for me, over 30 minutes later the potatoes are dropped on the table "ice cold" and after my steak was beyond cold. My wife ordered au jus with her entree, 20 minutes after she was done eating her "cold" pork chops , the waitress brings the au jus and says, "do you still want this?"... REALLY !!! Needless to say, out of 12 of us, 2 got their order correct and fresh. I explained my concern to the acting manager and was told... I quote, " I'm really sorry ". The last $, or in this case, the last $205.00 I'll ever spend there. I only wish the owner, Tom would have been there. read more

As I type this, I'm craving a chicken sub from one of my favorite spots in Olean. You can't go wrong with anything you order...chicken and steak subs are some of the best I've ever had in my life (seriously). Make sure you ask for some hot pepper spread on the side! The atmosphere is not good: Its a dive, not our thing. I would overlook this if the food was delicious and made up for it, but it didn't. We had 3 entrees. The pizza was satisfactory, nothing special. The crust was just a bit doughy and it didn't come with the extra cheese that I requested. The second dish was the "Penne ala Mickey." For $18 it comes with only a roll, no salad. The pasta was swimming in oil. My father ordered the prime rib. At $25 this was a terrible disappointment. Again there is no garden salad included with the entree. The presentation on the plate was very sloppy. A real prime rib connoisseur, my father judged this to be the worst steak he has ever been served. He had to spit several bites out. This place charges to refill your soda. Who does that anymore? I honestly can't think of anyone. Finally it was very cold in the restaurant, I wore my winter jacket throughout the entire meal. read more

Had my first trip to Mickey's last night. There's plenty of seating for both large parties or just a table for two. It's not the kind of place that feels cramped or crowded. The decorations on the wall were mostly nautical (a few paintings, including a very nicely dressed ship captain on a black background), but there's a giant hot pepper for the logo of the restaurant, along with smaller pictures of hot peppers on the wall, too. It has a sort-of dive feel. The waitress took our drink orders and handed us menus but didn't return after several minutes and we were the only people seated at a table. The rest were at the bar. We had to let the bartender know we were ready to order and he sent the waitress over. We ordered an appetizer (onion petals with dipping sauce) and two burgers. You have your choice of cheeses and toppings. The burgers don't come with fries automatically (which I thought was unusual) so we added a side order of fries. I ordered a BBQ Burger w/ Cuba Sharp cheddar (Cuba Cheese is a local company). I added bacon (not usually on the burger) and lettuce and tomato. Asked for the burger to be medium well. My friend ordered a Mushroom Burger with Provolone, well done but no toppings. The portion sizes even for the appetizers are HUGE. There were three of us and we were able to get our fill of onion petals, plus some leftover to take home. The fry portion was large as well (another takeaway). The lettuce for the burgers is shredded into what seems like strings. The bun was soft but still toasted and the burger wasn't greasy at all. I have to say it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. The waitress was more attentive after we got our orders and refilled our drinks. I think she was just busy before we took our orders getting ready for the bigger crowd that was coming for an event later in the evening. As for the whole menu, there are lots of choices like pasta, steak, fish, subs, burgers, sandwiches, and desserts. I've also heard the pizzas are good and saw several people come in to pick up takeout orders. Mickey's seems to have a large crowd of regulars who come, too, so it has a friendly neighborhood restaurant atmosphere. First time visitor to Mickey's on a recommendation from the hotel desk clerk in Olean. My wife and I both ordered the local beers on tap and we both each ordered a steak. I had a 10 ounce strip steak and she had a 8 ounce sirloin. Everything was excellent and our server was extremely nice. Went to Mickeys tonight after not being there for a very long time. Wasn't sure why we never went there. Figured it out pretty fast. I do have to say the steaks were very tasty and hot. On the other hand, the fries were cold and was a small portion. I tried to order ranch dressing for my salad but was informed that the meal only came with 1 side and the side salad was extra. But what really got me was after paying $22.00 for a 12oz strip steak with a handful of cold fries, the drink refill of soda and iced tea were not free. They were an extra $1.00 to refill. What? Everyone serves free refills, everyone! Regardless of what size glass you use. Apparently, they made a point to inform you on the menu of what size drinks they serve so refills will cost you extra. I failed to see that, but was informed by my 16 year old son after the meal when me cup was empty and needed a little more. For some reason my son's 8oz sirloin steak with his handful of fries was $23.00. You see, they do not post the price of the steaks on their menu. You are supposed to ask your server what they are. When I did, she avoided the question and never did tell me. Guess that was my own foolish fault. However, I will never be tricked into that again. I will go elsewhere the next time.
