Roadside kitchen outside Luray, Virginia, since 1925. Down home southern cooking to match the knotty pine walls and ceiling. Obviously dated, but with enough charm to make it fit our mood from our first night in Blue Ridge country. We're sure not in Philly any more, Todo! Service was decent from the silver haired ladies in white. We had Chopped Sirloin with brown gravy, Mushrooms and Onions (side of crisp fries), and this evening's Meatloaf Special with Mashed and Cole Slaw (same gravy on the side). They were both pleasantly tasty choices, if not outstanding. On the other hand, I was talked into a slice of their homemade Peanut Butter Pie, served chilled and with a little whipped cream and chocolate drip over the top. Damned fine dessert! Not bad for a first run at dinner in deep countryside. Only thing better would have been a platter of Southern Fried Chicken, but not on the menu this night. At Brookside, the atmosphere is a big part of the show. 3.5 STARS

Where to begin! Amazing experience, cute little restaurant that has a buffet but the plates are big enough to enjoy just one. Martha made the experience the best. She was sweet and funny plus quick and attentive. We hope to come back soon just to be able to have Martha as our server again. Also pancakes melt in your mouth! Love it, you must try it.

    Soups, salads, burgers, and more!

Cute place! pLittle pace in the side of the road! A perfect lunch spot. Salad bar was good-chicken salad very tasty. Grilled cheese and soup were great too. Ladies were friendly. Be careful though-extra lemon is 10 cents a slice!

Had a fine post-hike breakfast here the other day. As is generally the case, avoid the buffet and you'll probably be pleased.

We had such a wonderful experience at Broad Porch Coffee!…read more The salmon and dill toast was absolutely incredible--the presentation alone was beautiful, and it tasted even better. Everything was so fresh and perfectly balanced. It was so good that we ended up ordering two more to go just so our older teens could try it too! We also had the kale and roasted grape salad, and it was exactly what my palate needed--light, refreshing, and full of flavor. You can really tell they put thought into every ingredient. Overall, such a great spot with amazing food and attention to detail. We'll definitely be back!

Amazingly,…read morewith a line snaking around tables, we didn't wait more than 10 minutes to order and food was ready in under 5. Seeing how much looked good and we were tourists, we over-ordered and got to try a little of everything. From the summer menu, we got Biscuit and Gravy, Paradise Parfait, and the Bread Pudding. I enjoyed my biscuit and gravy - pretty solid. Child #1 devoured his parfait (I tried it and I think it may have been my favorite item - they also have a vegan chia seed option - a woman was enjoying hers next to us when we waited in line), and my wife loved the bread pudding, which has a nice maple glaze to it. We also grabbed several of their pastries, including some scones, a muffin, and a buckwheat cake slice. All were great, though the buckwheat pastry was a tad dry. They have a lot of standard offerings of a coffee shop - teas, coffees, lattes, etc. I got a matcha latte and found it to be earthy and not too sweet. The inside is a bit narrow, especially when you consider a long line. The staff are efficient but don't lose their warm hospitality. Broad Porch has an Air BNB "Loft in Luray" located upstairs. I imagine it would be wonderful waking up to the smell of coffee and pastries. I would say if you're visiting Luray, Broad Porch is a MUST VISIT. There's something for everyone. Highly recommended.

That tells me I've discovered something, since locals know the best places to go. I changed my plan from a soup and sandwich to a sandwich with a side based on my (outstanding) servers' recommendation. I selected the 'Monaco' but all the options looked good (and I love the names). Since it's a coffee shop I stayed for a cappuccino, which was served in an adorable tiny cup Great service. Not a fancy place but doesn't pretend or need to be.

Well it all came down to the customer service and food delivery time. When we first sat down, nothing was mentioned to us about the service times. We were greeted and just kinda tossed into a spot. I say it that way b/c they weren't very amenable in how they sat us. After sitting down, they did the order, drinks, etc. like usual. The catch - they were MASSIVELY behind on their ticket times. Was it busy? A little, there were still seats around us available though. Now when I say massively behind, it took us nearly 50 minutes for our food to arrive. That's just crazy for a lunch service. In the future, if they were that behind on ticket times, it would help all the customers in the restaurant (allowing tickets to stop backlogging), and set the expectations for the new customers coming in. Maybe it was a one-off, but it definitely prevented us from even considering it when we were looking at places to eat. Food Taste: 5 Overall Service: 2 Value of food to cost: 4 Facility: 5 Ambiance: Mom/Pop place that has a nice rustic, yet small town and nostalgic feel. Repeat customer: eh.. maybe? Dog Friendly: no
