We have loved living here at Brookside Park for the past few years. The grounds are lovely, with lots of greenery, a pond (with ducks who visit once in a while), and lots of fruit trees! Recently, major improvements have taken place in the community including a brand new fitness center, pet spa and a refinished pool + new BBQ. We feel that the community is well kept and is always improving. The management staff (Elizabeth and Suzanne) is super friendly and quick to listen and help as needed. Elizabeth, in particular, deserves a major callout. She is the new community manager and is an absolute wonderful human being who cares deeply about her work and making sure everyone here feels welcome! We are so happy and lucky to have her! The maintenance staff is also very quick and pleasant when dealing with service requests. Lastly, the property location can't be beat. We are near major freeways and super close to major businesses, which makes living here super convenient. We highly recommend it! read more

As other reviewers noted, there are frequent (almost constant!) shut offs of internet, hot water, etc. making it so difficult to work from home. Construction occurs all day. They must have paid Michelle D to say some nice things... and what's up with those pictures?! Those are from HER unit. In regards to the "staff" let me tell you my most recent experience: -I just returned from a trip, so I wasn't in my apartment for a solid 2 weeks. I woke up, went to the bathroom, took a shower, and when I got out of the shower, noticed that my toilet was overflowing... awesome. This was circa 530AM... I called their emergency maintenance line, and I was informed it wouldn't be handled for a few hours... What am I supposed to do? Not go to work and let water just overflow my bathroom and apartment?! Let me go over my favorite quotes as we were signing our lease: -"What is the cost if we were to go Month to Month or 6 Months instead of the full year?" Response: "It would be a lot more" Rebuttle: "So... can we get a dollar amount?" Response: "Don't even worry about it, it will be a lot more" -"You will have sit-in windows and they are double pane." -This was all false -"It's great having the tub and stand up shower separate" - No. It's stupid. They have a tub NEXT to the shower... I'm sure most would rather have a tub/shower combo and have the extra space plus more room to shower... also when I checked out the water pressure... the water in the tub came out brown since it wasn't used for so long... AWESOME! There is a waterway throughout the complex... but there is no water in it... it looks stupid and disgusting. Concrete channels filled with mud and crap. The lagoon in the middle is disgusting... I feel horrible for the fish in there as well as the ducks who crap all over the place. The gym... just forget it. You can get a better workout avoidng that gym and walking to Sylvan Park... 2 old ass treadmills, 2 bikes, 2 ellipticals, 2 TVs... and check this, one doesn't turn on, and the other can't change channels... awesome. In terms of "weights"... there is a lat pull down with a preacher curl for one machine... and the other is a pulley bench press machine... NO free weights or anything really to help develop muscle or even maintenance... Our specific apartment unit is interesting... there is a rain gutter outside our window that is SO LOUD when it rains we have to sleep in the living room when it rains. We are one of the lucky few who have the building electrical meters on our patio... that means PG&E can go onto our patio at any time... they also tend to leave the gate open leaving all of our belongings exposed to anyone who walks by... Thanks. (There were also RATS in this closet... not mice, RATS!) Speaking of rodents, there HAS to be rodents in between us and the unit above us. Even when the tenants above us aren't there, we can hear little scratching noises through our ceiling... then if we knock on the ceiling, we'll hear them scatter and run to a different location... DISGUSTING! I can talk on and on about how this property tries to be a A Class property, but it's a C Class. Washer/Dryer in unit is great! Wish you could control the LOUD... and let me emphasize LOUD... buzzer that goes off when your washer and dryer are done. The buzz seriously is obnoxiously loud and long and you can't do anything about it. The dishwasher is great too... except it always breaks when you run it. Solid. Parking is ample... except they recently posted a piece of paper on everyone's door to let them know about recent break-ins. Now we have the Mt. View Police follow every car into our parking lots... and those MV police... they just look for reasons to ticket someone! One police car was in front of me, I turned into the apartment complex, and he flipped a U turn to follow me in... c'mon really?! It was 5PM... when people COME HOME FROM WORK! We've been ready to move out for months. When we got our notice that our rent would go up (by $500... weird how all these $ amounts are different eh?) we just laughed. The only reason why we haven't left already is because it is $2500 to break a lease... $2500!!! BUH BYE Brookside Park, and good ridance read more

Not happy at all with our visit to this place. First off, less than 10 min before our scheduled appointment, I get a call telling me that they don't have 1BR units to show and the only one I'd be able to see would be a 2 BR (I was interested in a 1BR unit). Apparently they haven't had any 1 BR units to show in a long time. If that's the case...why couldn't they have told me this on the phone when I made the appointment the day before? And even if they hadn't, what good does a call less than 10 min before do? Might as well have waited to explain face to face. Anyway, we get there, talked to the leasing consultant for maybe 5 min. Conversation felt super rushed. Answers were very short and blunt. We didn't feel welcome at all. Kept talking about how there were 6-8 more couples coming to see the place later that day. The vibe of the whole visit was like "hey I'm the one doing you guys a favor here." When we were looking around at the 2BR unit, all of our questions were basically shot down. The visit seemed completely useless. I asked if the dining areas of all units had hardwood flooring. The 2BR that we were looking at did but the pictures of the 1BR that I saw online didn't and had carpet instead. The guy very curtly responded "I don't know. All units are different." Sure, that may be the case, but he didn't even show any sign of wanting to help us find out. We asked how much the deposit was. Yes he had mentioned it earlier but instead of reminding us he very rudely just motioned us to the paper handout he had given us at the leasing office. Didn't even answer the question. The only reason we asked was because we didn't want to read through all the text in the handout. I also asked about the laundry unit before we went to look at the 2BR. The pictures they had online showed the laundry unit in a storage room on the patio. The floor plan of the 1BR he had given us showed the laundry unit inside the apartment. I just wanted to confirm. I asked if the laundry unit was inside the unit or on the patio. He looked at me like I was crazy, like why would you ever had a laundry unit outside. Didn't even bother to explain that for 2BRs, the laundry unit IS, IN FACT, on the patio. Instead, he just said ".....it's in the unit...." A lot of other questions we had he just responded with "I don't know." Really frustrating. And then after the visit he starts pressuring us into putting down a deposit. After that kind of hospitality, we weren't even considering. He went on about how there were several other couples visiting later that day and the unit would be gone by tomorrow. Guess what. 5 days later (according to their website), it's still on the market. Maybe if they weren't so rude to potential residents, people would actually want to live here. read more

So, where to begin. Well I came back to Brookside Park after having rented a 2 bdrm unit many years ago. This time I'm coming to the end of a one year lease on a one bdrm and the current owners/manager are oh so different. From the get go the mgmt did everything possible to create bad will. I glossed over the utilities claus in the lease since in my extensive renting experience it's included so the tenant understands they are responsible for gas and electric. Well it turns out these shysters are charging for water, garbage, and sewer! Those items have been included in basic rent in every prior rental of mine. It's really just an underhanded way to bait you with a lower price until you sign the lease. Then you realize you've been had with rent anywhere from $100-$300/mo higher than advertised. The next bait and switch occurred when I was shown another unit with my floor plan since mine was still occupied. I was assured my unit would be identical. It was not. The gyp-crete under the dining floor was collapsed about 4 inches in the middle rendering the room unusable for dining room furniture. So much for entertaining friends this past year. At times I felt like I was renting the Santa Cruz Mystery Spot. Upon move in there were numerous maintenance problems in addition to shoddy painting, trim and patching everywhere requiring numerous maintenance requests in the first couple weeks. The electrical wiring was misconfigured with outlets on multiple circuit breakers. In one case the circuit for the fridge tripped and could not be reset causing near spoilage of everything. Now to their ongoing "beautification project". For the past several months the owners have been ripping off and replacing the exteriors of all the buildings with new siding, painting and windows designed to hide the age of these 50 year old buildings and make them look like the new $4000 one bedrooms up and down El Camino Real. The project while being sold as "for our enjoyment" is really for no other purpose than to sign new leases for as much as possible. The impact of this project on current residents is excruciating. The workers are pounding all day long, and those in affected buildings must move all belongings away from windows and balconies. At times access to parking is blocked, and nails from the old siding litter the parking area. I inquired as to how they were compensating residents for their loss of "quiet enjoyment" only to find out that they weren't. I was going to give BP two stars since they do have in unit laundry, and my unit does have pretty good privacy, but then the end of lease offer arrived on my door. It's industry standard for year leases to roll over into month-to-month agreements. I could have used an extra month since my fiancee broke her leg and couldn't help me move, but low and behold the monthly rent on my defective unit would have been about $5600 when you add in the water and garbage! That's a 135% increase!!! The City of Mountain View offers free mediation if a rent increase is more than 3.5% from the previous year. Their other offer was to keep the current rent and sign a six month lease, but all that would have done is guarantee the unit is occupied while their "beautification project" destroys any chance of "quiet enjoyment" for at least three of those months given they start on my building in April. I work from home making this a non-starter. Brookside Park is now owned by Sack Properties. A glance at their website reveals much bragging about maximizing investor value by purchasing dilapidated properties and commencing "beautification projects", but not a word about providing resident satisfaction. Brookside Park - 135% rent increase! - Apartments Near Me - Mountain View, California

Lived here for about a year Cons: - Incredibly difficult to get a hold of the leasing office. They would never return messages or check up on issues. - There were silverfish everywhere! No matter what was done you could never get rid of them. - The complex allows smoking. Neighbor was an incredibly heavy smoker and would leave a humongous pile of cigarette butts on his balcony. - When the lease was initially signed we requested a first floor apartment and asked the leasing manager multiple times if the apartment was ground floor, the ensured us it was. On move in day we found we were on the top floor and had to pay our movers extra for the mistake of the management. - The price jump from when we first moved in to a year later was over $500 for a 700 sqft 1 BdRm and definitely not worth what you get. Pros: - I got to know the maintenance crew and they were incredibly helpful and quick in resolving issues. Unfortunately, because if the lack of communication from the leasing, you need to find them yourself. They are usually working around the complex and so polite when you ask for help. - Aside from the obvious kids, pets, and highway 85 - the complex was quiet, peaceful, and safe. - The jacuzzi is a great size and the pool is very large, deep, and we'll maintained. - They have a decent gym, a cute little pond and gazebo area where you can sit, and a sauna that needs a little care. - Very close to Google, LinkedIn, Apple, and many other tech companies. When we first moved in it was definitely worth the price - $1944. I wouldn't recommend living there now unless you have no other option. read more

Pricing and availability good for Sunday, June 9 only. Viewings by appointment only, not open Sundays. So we were driving down Rainbow Drive on a Sunday and noticed that Brookside Park isn't on our radar, while it does fall within our location parameters. So we made note, looked them up for pet friendliness and made an appointment. And while they do accept pets, "friendliness" is a loose term. Pet deposit is $500 per pet - that's $1k for my 5lb and 11lb kitties. Pet rent is $50/ mo/ per pet... so $100 again, for pretty small four-legged creatures that come out of the womb litter-trained. I found their marketing materials more impressive than their apartments. We viewed the two bed/ two bath $2563 | 1100 SF "Pine" floorplan. We liked the HUGE 18x16 ft living room. The Master was a good size, but the closet had MIRRORED SLIDING DOORS (I have a mirror phobia) and was 11 ft long. It's no walk-in closet, but it's a good size. The Guest room was smaller (11x11 ft means we would have to decide if this room would be a guest bedroom or home office, not both), but with the same generous sized closet. Jack & Jill guest bathroom would make opening both doors a comedy of errors since they're so close together and one door completely hides the toilet. The Deal-breaker: *You can't just put a fresh coat of paint over cabinet doors and call it ready for the next guy. After what looked like decades of applying paint all over those cabinet doors, it looked very cheesy and glossy. Plus, there wasn't enough cabinet space to fit all of my kitchen stuff, even with the extra cabinetry added to the dining-side. *Radiant heating and no A/C. I've lived with these little wall elements before and it's not very effective. But to live without A/C seems impossible *Some units have in-unit washer/ dryer while some do not. *No in-unit storage space for big stuff like camping gear or snowboards. Although the balconies are HUGE. Overall, the landscaping was fabulous, the community seemed nice, but it's not enough square footage for the price. As Boyfriend put it, we wouldn't be saving enough money to give up a garage and add 100 SF... Brookside is no upgrade to where we're living now. read more

We've stayed there for 5 years. The apartments and the pool are fine but the gym is poorly equipped. The treadmill was broken for over a year until they finally fixed it. I am giving this place 2 stars because the management is terrible. They are extremely unresponsive and it got worse over time. They never pickup the phone and rarely answer emails. It is hard to find them in the office during business hours especially on Saturday (which is a working day). When we finally moved out, it was very unprofessional. The maintenance guys missed the final inspection appointment twice without giving any heads up and the management team never responded to us regarding the final charges. read more

I am a current resident here at Brookside Park. I know the ratings for Brookside aren't that great and until recently I would have agreed, but NOT ANYMORE!! They have a new manager running the property and she is AMAZING. Jamie is so helpful, super friendly and very professional. I recently had a leak under my sink and she was really on top of it. She had the maintenance guys here the same day. I really enjoy living here. The property is really well kept and has cute ponds throughout the grounds. Its also in a safe and convenient neighborhood. A short drive to Dt. Mountain View where there are some great restaurants and coffee shops, witch is a big plus in my book!! I would highly recommend living here at Brookside Park!! I definitely plan on being here a while! I love it here!!! read more

UPDATE! Feel free to read my original review (below), but my opinion of Brookside Park has since changed. As it turns out, the quality of life here was largely a result of the cost value. They recently raised our rent 16% from what we paid when we first moved here. The fact that we are excellent residents who maintain a beautiful apartment inside and out and pay our rent on time meant nothing to the heartless, greedy people at Sack Properties. I wrote Nancy Weirdsma at Sack a friendly message, twice, and called her once to discuss this rent increase, and in nearly two months she has not responded. She is just another soulless cog in the corporate machine. By the way, they raised my next door neighbor's rent 25%. So now that Brookside Park is no longer the good value it once was, I'd like to express a few of my grievances that don't quite fit with the new, posh image they're trying to project through their precipitous new prices: - Brookside Park advertises "babbling brooks" on their voice message when you call the office. The brooks are not at all babbling. I think they are best described as oozing, sludgy, mosquito-breeding cesspools. And that's on a good day. Otherwise, they're just dried up and filled with debris. - Our ceilings contain asbestos. I always wondered why they had those signs saying "this property contains elements known to the state of California to cause cancer." That's why. - The TVs in the exercise area have been broken for 2 years. - The hot tub in the pool area makes a loud hissing noise when the jets are on and has done so for 2 years. It needs to be re-caulked. - The antenna from my wife's car was unscrewed and stolen while in the Brookside parking lot. I could continue, but my anger has subsided, so I'll leave it at that for now. Bottom line is, there is no excuse for Sack to ignore a client's letters and calls, and if Brookside wants to raise rent so dramatically, it needs the facilities to back it up. Old review: After reading the first review I felt compelled to offer my own take on life here at Brookside Park. I remember when my wife and I were doing our apartment searching 2 years ago and how helpful it was to hear different people's takes on each apartment complex we explored. We settled on Brookside Park and we're very glad we did. Here's why: The pros: Our apartment is cozy and very nice. We've got lots of friends in the area and I have to say, our apartment is easily one of the nicest around. I'm pretty sure we pay less than most of our friends, too. The apartment was newly renovated when we moved in so we have granite counter tops, carpeting, some kind of laminate floor, and as of December '10 we now have a built-in washer/dryer (which has been pretty sweet). We live on the top floor so we have high ceilings that really open the place up. We also painted our walls and bought nice furniture, plants, accents, and other things my wife insisted on buying once we got married and decided to make this place our first home together. Apart from the indoor aesthetics, I love the outside. The landscape is impeccably kept, so much so that it makes me wonder how much of my rent money goes toward mowing the grass every day. There's a nice pond with some pretty entertaining resident ducks. Our pool is nice--it's the perfect temperature, gets lots of sunshine, is surrounded by palm trees, and even has a real deep end. There's also an exercise room that is certainly not the greatest, but it's been working fine for me. Another plus is the maintenance staff. Frank and Alfredo are hilarious, and although they don't always solve the problem the first time around, they usual show up promptly after I call and they will keep coming back until the problem is resolved. And finally, the location is great. We're so close to 85, 101, and 237. The cons: I don't have much in the way of complaints. Our walls and floors are thin just like most other California apartment complexes, but our neighbors are all quiet, so they don't really ever bother us. One thing that made me pretty mad this past year was when they increased my rent by $52/month. I'm told that for what we're getting we're still paying less than most other people in the area, so I'm trying to let it go, but it does still make me mad that we're paying over $600 more a year. Beyond that, our apartment in particular doesn't get as much sunlight as we'd like, but that's just specific to our location. So overall, we're very happy here and I often recommend this place to others. I don't doubt that the first reviewer has had a sub-par experience, but I think with a bit of bad luck that's bound to happen anywhere. I hope this helps! read more

I would never have said anything negative about Brookside Park apartments as my rating would show, "Meh". After all, it's apartment living and sometimes you take the bad with the good. However, all rules are out the window... If you are moving out of Brookside Park Apartments or are a current tenant and will be leaving, your assistance is needed and would be greatly appreciated. After having moved out of Brookside Park Apartments 5 years ago, they have turned up on my credit for a collection. I did leave before my lease but it was due to a job transfer to the great state of Texas. I arranged with the manager at the time as to why I was leaving (he never gave my notice to the new manager taking over, nor, apparently gave my forwarding address to the new manager) and that they would contact me with what was due after they were able to fill in the vacancy I left behind. They had my forwarding address and everything. I never heard from them...EVER. Now I'm getting ready to move to a new apartment in Austin, TX (where I have been living for 5 years) and they (Brookside Park Apts) come out of the woodwork saying I broke the lease (now I can't move until I clear this up). I called the collection agency and they wanted me to pay the fees plus the interest rate over the last 5 years. I am happy to pay the fees but not the interest rate over the last 5 years. This collection company claims they contacted me in January of 2007. If so, they had an address at which I no longer lived and I never received notice from them. Today I contacted a lawyer who suggested I find out if Brookside Park had even filed a suit against me and that it would be filed with the Santa Clara Superior Court. I called them this morning. Brookside Park never filed a suit. It appears they hired this collection agency (don't know when) and that this collection agency is being a hard --- about the 5 years worth of interest rate fees. Please help. I am a single parent raising 3 daughters. I am happy to pay my dues but the interest rate is a matter of principal. They are also charging me for carpet cleaning and general cleaning of the apartment. It was my understanding they were going to be "renovating" the unit and pulling the carpet so why charge me for carpet cleaning. In addition, my apartment was left ---- and span clean, they had no need to charge for additional cleaning. If you could speak with me and provide eyes and ears to your own personal experience to how your departure from Brookside Park was dealt with it would help me. I am out of state and cannot make the trip to scope things out. read more

There is a new manager and they have recently fixed the pond and landscaping but *only 3 stars because the owners let the extremely hostile, horrible management persist and neglected maintenance for years.* Thank god Joi is gone! She hated people, never kept promises, couldn't respond to simplest email question, and I had been planning to move out because dealing with the management about the simplest things was always such an ordeal! From being blamed and called a liar when something broke in the apartment, to them lying and claiming in resident notices that nothing was taken during storage locker breakins after I reported to them that my property HAD been stolen, to them claiming they didn't receive our rent when we had handed the check to them in person!!! I had never had ANY issue whatsoever with any property manager prior to this place, and have probably lived in 8 different places over the years. I heard numerous horror stories of completely illegal conduct like people's leases (length and rent amount) being changed after they signed them (and were refused a copy at time of signing.) Plus it was impossible to get a straight answer about your rent increase. And then they wouldn't honor the written quote! (saying 'well, she wasn't authorized to give you a quote.') Paint jobs inside apartments are extremely sloppy and paint starts coming off a few months after you move in. Blinds are very old and hard to move. Beware if you're sensitive to smoke because you'll be breathing neighbors' smoke through the ventilation system. No AC, but only a problem a few days a year if you're on the 1st floor. Generally a safe area, but I had $1000 of stuff stolen from my storage locker and just saw a guy's car broken into (window smash) yesterday. Hazards of living close to freeway and major street (easy escape route for them.) Generally a quiet community. Love the landscaping. $50 a month (per pet) and a $500 damage deposit (which I'll likely not get back because places never refund them from what I hear) for a cat is ridiculous!! It makes no sound and I keep my place spotless! Note to prospective tenants: tenants split the water cost for the pond, etc. Expect a high water bill. (I had been wondering why my water bill doubled -- Because they fixed the pond and finally filled the streams!) read more

Brookside has been undergoing massive construction for the past few years and will continue it through 2023--with no recompense or consideration for residents. I've lived here for 2+ years and have had maintenance barge in unannounced at 7am to "fix" random things that I never requested be fixed, access to my balcony and outdoor laundry unit taken away for 5+ weeks, and access in and out of my apartment taken away from 9am-8pm while they do more construction (among other things). It takes 10 minutes of running the shower to get hot water. Their online rent payment feature was broken during the first few days of the month when rent is due--and despite me calling and emailing several times and reporting this, they still charged me a late fee. The smell of garbage wafts through the complex, and walls are so thin that you hear every argument, child's wail, and dog's bark. Management is extremely unhelpful and callous, and I'm partially convinced this whole operation is a front for a corrupt management to launder money through needless construction. Do not live here! read more

As with all apartments, your experience can vary greatly. For the most part, I enjoyed my stay at Brookside Park. The apartment was spacious and relatively quiet, although some street noise leaked in. Most of the maintenance requests I filed were handled the next day. Never had a problem with the neighbors or management. After the second year, my rent was raised above my budget, so I had to leave. read more

Pros: * The setting is nice, and the staff is nice. * We got a personal washer dryer for free - we were never told we were going to get one. Very convenient. * Upstairs has vaulted ceilings. * Theres always enough parking Gardeners were coming early enough to wake me up so I told the management. They fixed that problem. Cons: We had a bunch of problems mostly during the earlier months in our ~18 month stay there. They were redoing the water piping, and a couple times we had very discolored water come out when you first turned on the faucet for a minute. This wasn't really a major problem. There were also problems with there being no hot water two or three times. We got a leak in the roof, which was promptly fixed after we reported it. But they never fixed the ceiling water spot. Pool area closed at like 10:00, which is annoying, but probably pretty standard. Rent went up a whole freaking lot, probably due to the upgrades and rennovations. Month to month rent is ridiculous. Neutral They were doing remodeling and so had to come in a few times to dig into the walls. This wasn't a problem at all, and they probably won't be doing that sort of thing for a long while. Summary So all in all, it wasn't a bad place. After the first 5 months, we had very few problems. read more

A few weeks ago I decided to move to mountain view, so I looked up this apartment central park on Wishman and made an appointment. I was there early and wasn't allowed to have a tour. I drove away thinking where to kill three hours before my appt. I zillowed what's nearby and saw Brookside that's nearby. I went there and was greeted immediately and led to see the showroom. The community is absolutely serene with lots trees, pond, pavilion, ducks and squirrel. I instantly fell in love with the surroundings. The buildings are old, built in the 80s hence don't expect to see Avalon tower equivalent cabinets and fixtures. Everything is well maintained. I signed the lease right on the spot. I like the location and the management there. Dianna is absolutely amazing. She's been unbelievably responsive, helpful and super easy to work with. Everything with Brookside since lease sign, move-in to settling has been easy breezy. They also have an app you can download and use on your phone to make payment, communicate with property management and the community, and schedule service request. Within a day you get the result. I definitely plan to live here for a while but would hope for some upgrade on their very old interior including beat-up Windows that are so hard to open. Who doesn't have double panned these days ?? Light switches for kitchen and bedrooms work every other time only due to old and loose contact between switch and the fuse. Their pipes are super old too so if anyone next door or downstairs neighbor is taking a shower, it creates huge and disturbing noise that can easily scare you off if you are sleeping or watching tv. And the old material used on building this property it doesn't block sound or smell at all. If downstairs is cooking a meal, the smoke can stink up your place at upstairs for the whole night. I never lit any of the candles I've been collecting and now they all come in good use, I light everyday all night long. Lastly, they should consider taking the free installation program from the government to put up the solar panels as the electricity in such old property is extremely expensive :( Hope my lease up in Dec will not have an increase as i do love living here and for long. read more

This is a long review but it WILL be helpful. At first glance this place seems reasonable. In hindsight, we put up with way more than we should've considering what we were paying. For MV, they units are on the bigger size (though some floor plans have a totally different feel and are tiny due to poor layout!). However in each bedroom there tends to be hardly any useful wall space and awkward room layouts which makes it complicated to figure out where to put a bed or any furniture. Bonus - big closets. Also, if you are a dog person, there's no limit on how big of a dog you can have which is really nice and unique. CONS (read on for a more detailed review): No new carpeting, impossible to get a hold of management, maintenance does the bare minimum and doesn't care about cosmetic fixes, bathrooms are grungy, SILVERFISH EVERYWHERE in ALL units (we've asked 5+ people!!), sketchy people and little security. MAINTENANCE: When we moved in they told us we had new carpet. Psych! It was old and crunchy in spots. Gross. Smokers allowed in apartments and if they're nearby your unit, you're out of luck. Smoke seeps in through any open window and when we complained about it they told the smoker who it was that had complained! Unprofessional! Dishwasher was nearly falling out and maintenance took a look at it and said it would be fine (except for the inconvenience of the rack sliding out every time the door was open due to it FALLING OUT of place). Our fridge broke when we first moved in and they told us it was our fault for blocking the passage from the freezer to the fridge, allegedly "fixed it" and only came back after all our food was spoiled to realize that it was what WE had thought it was: a broken fridge. Cost us money as a result, but they replaced it. That was two MAJOR strikes on maintenance. Bathrooms were in bad shape. Caulking was dirty and separating from the wall, our drains never drained well and the floor of the shower was torn up BEFORE we moved in; they didn't bother to replace it. PESTS: Silverfish, silverfish, SILVERFISH everywhere! In the carpets - DISGUSTING. In the closets. Feeding off of the popcorn ceiling. They crept into our furniture, clothes, towels, dishes - it was absolutely DISTURBING and honestly makes me sick to my stomach. Of course when I called the office, they called THEIR pest guy (who only comes on the first Tuesday of the month so if you call anytime after that you're out of luck for a whole 3-4 weeks!). Tuesday is also the day their leasing office is closed; I'm guessing they don't want potential tenants showing up, seeing his equipment and learning that they have major pest problems. Anyway, the pest guy was not helpful at all. He came to our unit and said, "Silverfish? Nothin I can do about that." Allegedly he sprayed but they were still there the very next morning!!!!!! It was awful. GROUNDS: The garbage and recycling overflowed EVERY week. Security was pretty invisible; we had things stolen which was a bummer and there are scammers who consistently visit the complex. It's nearly impossible to get a hold of management on the phone and the office was closed way more often than not. The foliage at Brookside is the WORST - we had to sweep off the pathway multiple times because of all the dried olives/leaves/droppings of the tree and because they didn't take care of the grounds often enough. Could never use our patio because it was covered in crap from the trees. Neighbors fed the squirrels/ducks and the squirrels became overly-used to humans and ravenous. It. was. miserable. We finally broke our lease to get out and had to pay an arm and a leg...not to mention it took us a week to track down the management to even figure out what we had to do next. But it was worth it to get out of there. I would not recommend this to a friend, and definitely not to a family trying to move into MV. STAY AWAY FROM BROOKSIDE PARK! read more

This review is more about the management and one of the agents that we worked with rather than the community itself. While looking for a new apartment, we came across Brookside Park online and decided to go check it out. === Is there a point in making an Appointment?? === Since we are working professionals, we scheduled an appointment a day in advance to save us time. The appointment was for 11:30am and we arrived at the location ahead of time. To our disappointment, the office entrance had a sign saying "be back at 12:15". We waited until 12:30 but no one showed up. === Inflexible === We returned later and finally noticed that the office was open. We met Jamie who gave us the details for the available units, floor plan, rent and gave us the tour of one of the units. All looked great for the mentioned rent. However, since we had already paid the rent for October, we requested if we could move in on November 1st. The answer we were given was "No. We can only hold the place for you for a week and since the management knows that the 1 bedroom units are going away fast, we can not have your move in date as November 1. The latest we can do is October 15." What this means is, I have to pay $1000+ in rent for the apartment for October 15 - November 1 even though I will neither be using the place nor need to move in that early. === Too busy === Since we liked the place and did not want to move out of Mountain View area, we decided to take the $1000+ loss and returned 30 minutes after the visit to sign the lease. However, Jamie was too busy to work with us and provide additional details to us. She gave us application form and asked us to get the necessary documents and come back the next day. === Wait.. There are more conditions and charges that we weren't told of during our first and second visit? === I visited again the next day with the application forms, the documents and the holding deposit check. Tatjana was the person at the office. She was extremely helpful, patient as I requested for checking out the unit one more time and asked questions about the application form. As we finished the paperwork, she asked us to have renters insurance details available on the day of signing the lease which surprised me. Apparently, Jamie forgot to mention its mandatory. I do not have a problem with the additional cost, however I do not appreciate finding out details about additional costs after the fact and 2 visits already. Noticing how I was unhappy to not have been told of this before, Tatjana asked if Jamie did mention about water/sewage. Looks like Jamie also forgot to mention that there is additional cost of $80-$100 a month for water/sewage that we would need to pay in addition to the rent. Again, cost is not the problem. However, finding that out after making 3 visits is definitely not appreciated. === Me Thinks Not === Considering how everything went wrong from the appointment to inflexible move-in date to missing information despite multiple visits, we decided not to go with Brookside Park. read more

When I moved here I was single and this was a clean, safe, complex with a washer/dryer in unit. The move-in process was easy. I was still young so they worked with me to qualify. I did have to pay a larger deposit but they made sure I could rent what I was looking for. The worst part of living here is the management. There were countless times they should be in the office but it was closed. When my boyfriend moved in with me things got worse. Our upstairs neighbors had always be loud but now they would pound on the floors at all hours, it sounded like a million people dancing. As I'm an understanding neighbor, it never bothered me and I didn't complain. MV is strict about bbq on balconies so we had a very small (and "legal") tabletop grill with less than 1 lb tank. We used it on occasion but always during the day. One day our upstairs neighbors called management because they didn't think we should be able to have it. They claimed it smelled up their whole apartment and laundry but never closed their windows. We were very respectful and always made sure any smoke blew out and away from windows and cooked lean meats to avoid any smoke or burn. We also closed the windows and generally did this in the afternoon on the weekend or days off. Although management was never helpful, they were quick to call us and harass us over it. We asked them to come on over and take a look at the grill and we never heard from them again. Our upstairs neighbor also clogged up our sink. One day I came home and the sink had a bunch of raw vegetables in it. I had been working so it wasn't ours. Long story short the connected plumbing backed up because they stuffed their garbage disposal full and all of their raw food and sewage was coming up my sink! The complex managed to send someone out who made matters worse by flooding the entire kitchen with said raw sewage. It was awful and the complex was a nightmare to work with. Then, when we had to relocate for work, they made the lease breaking process impossible, they also charge thousands of dollars. We had to leave 2 months ahead of the end of our lease. Despite leaving it very clean they took significant amounts from the deporting for cleaning and painting. We could never reach the office during their normal business hours so we found never talk to anyone. Although the facilities here are fine, just very old, the management is a complete nightmare and your neighbors will be too. read more

Joy Lambert is also the property manager at Sunrise Garden Apartments in San Jose. She is employed by Sack Property Inc. Since Sack Properties bought the property from Prometheus the atmosphere changed completely! Not only did they lie about raising our rent but Joy is never responsive, probably due to the fact that she is never there! Her office assistant is the only one who responds, but she is not the manager. I tried to break my lease one month early and Joy rejected my request (via the office assistant!). She said I could break the lease for $2500, which is stupid cause the rent is less than that. But fine! We continue to pay the last month's rent, but we moved out. It was so bad that we are now paying rent at two places!! Joy lacks customer service skills and has her office assistant doing "her" job. I feel for the girl because I've called to complain and she's the one dealing with it. Most of my neighbors are also waiting to move out at the end of their lease. Some have lived there for years but are unhappy with the new management. And if you have more than one car, expect to pay $50 per month for parking and $5 per day for guest parking!! Pretty soon, they'll be charging tenants for use of the pool. Don't rent there! Save yourself the headaches. read more

HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT! DO NOT MOVE HERE! JOI is the worst property manager I have ever dealt with. Just google the apartment and read the reviews- they are all accurate. I have lived here for less than a month, and I am ready to leave because of her poor customer service. She is just a mean person that hates life and takes it out on her tenants. She promises things that she can't deliver and has the audacity to yell at her tenants after the fact! I have never in my entire life dealt with such unprofessional-ism. After living here for a year, we received notice that our rent would be going up $300/month if we wanted to do another year lease or $1000/month if we wanted to rent month to month. Are you serious?! And I agree with the poor customer service comments of others- very unhelpful in the front office. We moved here because the rent was initially cheaper than other places that we looked at but I guess that's how they get you in, and then they hike up your rent. Needless to say, we will be moving. read more

Pros: Usually have many apartments available for rent Can be a little cheaper than other options in the area Close to freeways but still far enough away to not have to deal with the frustrations that usually come from that Grounds typically appear decently kept Cons: Rent increases significantly as soon as management has opportunities Management is difficult to work with and can be somewhat rude/incompetent Maintenance is HORRIBLE - I can't express that enough. These are older apartments and do require regular fixes. Maintenance usually does not respond in a timely manner to requests. Just one of MANY examples...Broken door? It can take 6 MONTHS for them to fix appropriately. By appropriately, I mean actually getting a non-broken door, installing it, reinstalling it 4 times because they didn't the first 3 times. Security is nonexistent and in the last few years, the police have more and more of a presence due to criminal activity on the property, cars being broken into, burglars casing apartments, scammers knocking on doors to steal money / see if anyone is home.....and so on. Rating this apartment complex one star is overly generous and I hesitate because I'm quite sure the managers are proud of their poor ratings. They delight in making people as miserable as possible. All the negatives in previous reviews are true. In case you are attracted to the outward appearance, please don't be fooled. Stay very far away. You will not be happy here. read more
