I rarely write reviews, but my experience with Verve Mountain View has been so shockingly unprofessional that I feel compelled to warn others. Here's why: Automatic Payment "Glitch" vs. Rude, Threatening Letters My rent was a few days late because Verve Mountain View's automatic-pay system failed to deduct the funds from my bank account--an issue entirely outside my control. Instead of sending a polite reminder or even a simple "your payment is late" notice, they inundated me with multiple letters dripping in threatening language, accusing me of deliberately shirking payment obligations. They offered zero explanation or apology for their system error. No Prior Notice, No Communication--Just Hostility At no point did I receive a text, email, voicemail, or any warning that the automated payment didn't go through. I've dealt with dozens of landlords and apartment complexes over the years; this is the first time a company blamed me first and asked questions later. Their "late fee" notice was written in a snide, combative tone--no "hello," no "please let us know if you have questions," just curt demands and threats. It felt like they were deliberately trying to intimidate tenants instead of providing straightforward information. Unapologetic, Unaccountable Behavior When I reached out to explain that the problem was on their end, the response was condescending: "It's your responsibility to ensure payments go through," despite having no prior warning that it hadn't. They refused to acknowledge that their own autopay system was malfunctioning. Instead of fixing their backend or at least offering a courtesy call, Verve Mountain View left tenants scrambling to cover surprise late fees--fees we wouldn't owe if their system had worked as advertised. Trust & Respect--Completely Undermined At best, their approach suggests they assume every tenant is dishonest and unresponsive. At worst, they simply don't care if their technology fails, as long as they can slap on extra charges and scare people into paying. The days I spent fielding threatening notices--and rushing around to scramble for extra hundreds of dollars I never should have owed--left me frustrated, stressed, and questioning whether I want to live anywhere that treats tenants this way. Bottom Line: If you value basic courtesy, transparency, and a landlord who actually takes responsibility when their systems screw up, look elsewhere. Verve Mountain View has demonstrated that they'll throw around rude, threatening language at the first sign of any payment hiccup--real or manufactured--without so much as a "sorry for the inconvenience." I can't recommend them, and I'm actively searching for a new apartment because I refuse to support a company that bullies honest tenants instead of fixing its own mistakes. read more

I have lived in this apartment complex since 2018. The apartment building itself is extremely nicely done and the maintenance crew is fabulous and responsive. The building is also quiet and neighbors are respectful. However, the current management has been incredibly difficult to deal with over the years and has become increasingly so. Every time my lease came up for renewal I felt price gauged and taken advantage of as a current tenant (meanwhile the apartment next door or down the hall would be vacant and on the market for less). In addition, the few times I asked to speak with a human being about a concern, I was met with form letter type email responses or stock language. The pool and hot tub were "under repair" for the greater part of the past year year with no accommodation in terms of an alternative or discount made to tenants. The parking garage doors are frequently broken and the public walkway Mews area at times is littered with trash or with non-tenants drinking on the bench late at night. The move out process includes a mandatory post move out cleaning fee (which I have never experienced in any other high end building). Yes, you have to leave the place in good shape, but to scrub countertops with "mild soap" and make sure the faucets don't have water drops seems beyond reasonable and another way for Verve to save money. Overall, I ended up feeling like a checkbook and not a valued tenant living here and am glad to be moving out. I would look elsewhere in the area before considering the Verve as your top choice. Update: I reached out to the Wecare email weeks ago and never heard back. Not surprised, just wanted to update this group! read more

I was busy washing dishes in my apartment on a Sunday evening after a long week. Suddenly the kitchen sink filled with dark sooty water, covering my arms and hands. I went to the bathroom to take a shower and rinse off when I encountered the grossest scene imaginable. It looked like a sewage bomb had gone off in the bathroom covering the floor, shower and parts of the bathroom vanity in black excrement water. The smell was even worse than a tipped-over portapotty - it was more chemical and toxic-smelling, burning your nostrils. Everything in the bathroom from the rug to the garbage can was covered. I grabbed a COVID mask, took a photo and shut the bathroom door to prevent some of the smell from leaking out. A mosquito and several flies flew by me. I called Verve but there was no answer except from the emergency line. An emergency tech came out around 11PM and attempted to clean up the mess with a wad of cotton towels. He worked heroically until 1AM then left a dehumidifier running over night. He mentioned that he thought the sludge was coming up from the shower drain. I went to bed at 2AM but slept poorly a few feet from the bathroom next door worrying that the sludge would leak out in my sleep for me to inhale. The dehumidifier rattled on loudly in the background. I had to leave the next morning but not before a service employee came in to check. As we walked into the bathroom we realized another sewage bomb had gone off and the foul smell and the bathroom was again covered. Unfortunately the previous service tech's equipment/dehumidifier was covered. As I went to the garage, pipes below my unit were leaking water and parts of the garage's insulation onto the floor. --- I wish I could tell you that this episode has been resolved. The bathroom was cleaned after the second bomb but continues to smell of sewage and the floor remains stained brown. My carpet to the bathroom is still stained by equipment and boots dragged into the bathroom. The Verve is telling me that they expect me to go in and continue to use that bathroom They've done nothing about my belongings in the bathroom and told me that this type of thing happens "at all of their properties" and is not unusual. The manager informed me that she also had the same thing happen, implying that I should just live with it. This is in response to a comment by Quay Neach of UDR to my original review. First and foremost, the AC unit was never fixed while I lived in my apartment. The original repair request was made on July 19, and I moved out of my apartment on October 2, for a total of 11 weeks without AC. I was given compensation of $50/day for July 19-Sept 5, or only 7 weeks of that time. I was given a portable AC unit that was not only inadequate to cool the area normally covered by the central AC, but also increased my PG&E bill by nearly $200/month. I was offered the use of a guest suite for a total of 4 or 5 days out of the 11 weeks during which the AC was not working. Finally, my requests to the manager for further compensation were never answered, and instead the closing charges on my tenancy were deducted from my security deposit. The measures offered by Verve/UDR were inadequate for my situation. Furthermore, I do not appreciate having my review contradicted by someone without accurate information, and I reiterate my recommendation that people shop around when looking for a place to live in Mountain View - there must be better price/service combinations out there. read more

This apartment complex treats its residents extremely well. The respect masks and social distancing, and have really good parking options. Located right on El Camino, you can get to the freeway and downtown really easily. If you have a dog, they love them here and have a place that is walking distance to get your dog taken care of. This review is definitely overdue and I normally don't write reviews but I thought I should give my feedback. I've been here since April and I have nothing but great things to say about the property and the staff. Besides the obvious which is the perfect location and my fabulous apartment, the staff has made my experience super pleasant. Alexis helped me during the move in process and she was super helpful. It was literally the easiest move ever and she followed up with me several times after to make sure everything was ok and I was happy with my unit which I totally appreciate. Also I have had few interactions with Yusif and he's been great. The maintenance team Marcos and Edgar are friendly and always go out of their way to say hello when I'm walking around. The property is also one of the cleanest and tidiest properties I've lived at and I've probably lived in over 10 apartment buildings. The property always smells so good from the elevator to the hallways and the package room... even the trash room smells good! Honestly, I'm extremely surprised about the couple negative reviews here as I haven't experienced anything close to that...I absolutely love living here! One last thing- Couple months after moving in, I got a nice surprise at my front door when I got home which it was 2 bottles of wine and a sweet thank you note which was sent to all my neighbors as well :) read more

I don't recommend renting an apartment here if you are working from home or you need a quiet place to rest. The management is awful in this building. Everyday hear noises for maintaining something inside the building. And when I respectfully asked the manager to move the hours of maintenance to other days and hours so we can work peacefully from home during the week days/hours, she was so rude and without apologizing said that's how it's. Elevators are broken or reserved for movingly without noticing, the pool was closed due to maintenance. In general I don't recommend this building. read more

I would add another star but once I saw the response for complaints in google reviews were 720 area code number and we are no where near a 720...I have had enough. You have locals that would be happy to be at service at an affordable rate. Ironically we are unemployed! The office staff is great, but the after hours lock out system is completely dysfunctional. UDR only provides a number to reach a call center that serves many rental properties, doesn't know much about Verve and is unable to help with anything. I got locked out of my apartment today and I've been stuck outside for several hours. I called the provided number several times, each time reached a different operator who said they are unable to reach Verve maintenance and there is nothing they can do beyond that. On the last call they said they did reach maintenance but they didn't provide an ETA and nothing else can be done. UDR needs to ensure there is a system in place for after hours emergencies that provides a reasonable level of service, especially given the $100 lock out fee. read more

We've absolutely loved living here at the Verve. The facilities are kept in peak condition, the rooms are spacious (and quiet), and the staff here are incredibly professional and responsive. Special shout-out to Yusif Lee, who has been happy to help us with just about anything from day 1 and is a constant friendly presence on sight. I have lived in 12+ apartment communities over the last 15 years, and without a doubt VERVE is the nicest community I've lived. Brand new community in one of the best spots in Silicon Valley. In full candor, I am a UDR associate, but felt compelled to leave a review. Great location (mid point between Castro St. and San Antonio Center), close to highways and Caltrain, walkable to Vive Sol (best margaritas in town 15 seconds away), Indian restaurant across the street has the best butter chicken in town. High quality interior finishes, smart layouts, good sized patios, great closet space! On site team (both office and maintenance) is very responsive and hosts legit resident events almost every month- mixers and other fun ways to get to know neighbors- has a real community feel. Destination spaces are on point: five diamond resort feel pool, game room with throwback games, keg tap in the community center, shuffle board, pool, fire pit, beautiful grounds with lush landscaping...very peaceful, yet fun feel. Price is relative...being a frugal person who also enjoys quality, it's a great feeling on the first of the month when I can happily pay rent knowing that I love where I live. I find that I spend less $$ going out, because my home is a quality destination. read more

I honestly don't understand all the hype from these reviews. I'm living here in temp housing & can't imagine paying the rent they charge here and feeling like I'm getting my money's worth. It is nice, but all new apartment communities are nice. The bar is already high. Pros: * New modern apartments with nice finishes (like all other new apartment communities) * Nice pool & spa (like all other new apartment communities) * Close to work (this is the big plus) * Plenty of available parking in the underground garage Cons: * Extremely expensive rent * EV charging is $2 an hour! (hence why they're always available) * The damn keyless system can easily lock you out of your apartment (it immediately locks behind you, have to be 10000% sure you have your fob before running out) ... and they charge $100(!!!) for after hours lock out service (that took nearly 2 hours to get). In my last apartment community there was 24/7 concierge service and if I were locked out, I'd get a key in minutes for free. * You have to literally fob several times to get anywhere within the complex, but 9 times out of 10 the exterior gates are wide open for anyone to come in. The gates do not self close properly. * The elevators and common areas are not cleaned very often. * This property is surrounded by kinda crappy apartments and not many good restaurants. It feels weirdly out of place. * Don't get an apartment that faces El Camino.. you can never open your windows. Just very meh for me. read more

My husband and I loved living in this building. The communal space is very well maintained and beautiful. The pool and hot tub are a great place to hang out and gather with friends. There is a lot of outdoor patio seatings to relax on during the weekend or after work. There is also a game room, a gym, and a place to host parties. The management team is great. They are always happy to answer questions and assist in any way they can. The managing director, John Tacci, was really helpful in suggesting resources to accommodate our move. The building also throws monthly parties. It is a great way to meet the other residents and enjoy your Friday evening. If we did not have to move to another part of the bay, we would have definitely renewed our lease at the Verve read more

This felt more like a community and home than living in an apartment. Staff: John, Pamela, Marcos and the Verve Staff take immense pride in this property and it shows. We were fortunate to live a year before having to move closer for a job but I genuinely felt these cared people cared about me/the community. Apartment: The Verve apartments had very high-end appliances and fixtures through the entire place. A big factor I never consider until leaving, was how quiet it felt in our apartment, I rarely never heard my neighbors on either side of me or traffic noise. The amenities were fantastic and never felt crowded with people. John was also open to suggestions how to make the Gym better which it was already better than most apartments I've been to. Community: The neighbors were great people, we met a couple of friends at the monthly socials put on by Verve. These three areas really made this community one the best places I've lived so far. My wife and I were seeking a new apartment in the Palo Alto and Mountain View area. We were not considering an apartment complex and had settled on a duplex. This was until we stopped by verve. I had a few moments to stop by the new verve development on El Camino real. Upon entering I was graciously greeted by Pamela who was kind and eager to help me learn about the new property. This was much different than other nearby unnamed properties where the staff made me feel I was inconveniencing them. Pamela showed me a unit and the incredible grounds at verve. I was so pleased I had my wife come by shortly after. John the property manager offered to stay beyond his hours to not rush us through touring the property. We were so pleased with the property, and equally important, the people, that we committed to move in on the spot. After 30 days of occupancy, we couldn't be more happy. We are mid 40's professional without children. The property fits very well for us and we have already met some great people living in the community. It is a very social setup without being overbearing. A resort style pool, gourmet bbqs, outdoor pool table, shuffle board table and outstanding community center for events. The gym is also very nice for workouts. The staff has held formal, and some informal, social gatherings. Pamela, John and Keegan have helped resolve any issues quickly and are a pleasure to know. If looking for a new home, don't look past verve. If I had to site anything wrong is that the building is still completing construction. However this has actually been a positive leaving the amenities to a limited few for a short period of time. read more

This is my first non-5* review on Yelp, but while this is a beautiful building with great amenities and apartments, the management is very difficult to work with. I have lived here for 4 years and while the rents all plummeted during COVID and there were many concessions offered for new residents moving in, my rent was raised. When I brought this to the attention of the leasing agents, they said I would have to move out and into a new apartment. Additionally, the maintenance of the amenities has dropped over the years. I then asked if I could give notice to move out two months early, given all of this, and I was told that I would have to buy myself out, although others were able to leave. Unless you would like to deal with difficult management if you have any issues, I would not recommend. read more

I have been living in the Verve MV apartment complex for approximately three weeks and my experience so far has been very comfortable. The property itself is certainly high-end with great amenities (e.g., game room with retro arcade machines, well-designed clubhouse, gym with Netflix-enabled treadmills, and outdoor grills for residential use). The units demonstrate the same attention to detail and sophistication, with mine including a built-in Nest unit, stainless steel kitchen appliances, and hidden wire channels for mounting TVs. Also, the units seem to be significantly larger than similarly priced apartments in SF, without any significant difference in amenities. At the time of writing this, underground parking for the complex is both readily available and cost effective, even for multiple vehicles per apartment. Further, the on-site management team (John, Pamela, and Monica) have been extremely responsive. While my apartment had a few minor issues upon move-in (e.g., a loose floor tile and low shower pressure), these issues were resolved within 24 hours of my report. I was particularly impressed by the maintenance staff's strict adherence to a policy of wearing shoe covers before entering. The only (minor) issue I've had is that some mail carriers are inconsistent in how they deliver packages, with a few failing to use the on-site Parcel Pending system. This isn't exactly a fault with the staff/property but rather a comment of something to consider if you expect to have a lot of large packages (this is less of an issue for small packages). The Verve is absolutely worth serious consideration if you plan to live in the area. read more

They property management invests in keeping the property well maintained and I miss this apartment since moving more north on the peninsula to be closer to work. You will get RIPPED OFF at every opportunity when you move out. 1. They will 'force' you to pay $195 to clean the apartment. They asked us if we want to pay $195 and let them schedule cleaners. If we wanted to clean it ourselves, they said they would inspect really deep and if we missed anything (such as top of the fridge, behind the fridge) they would still charge $195. 2. Every form you sign is tricky. Before we moved out, we had to sign the move out inspection form. The service manager said wall painting would take at most 1-hour work and we agreed to that. After one week, we received a bill and we were charged $144 for 2-hour work. The manager argued that there is one line in the form "Charges are estimates and may be changed within 14 days of move-out date WITHOUT notice to you". 3. We were also charged $330 for scratches on the refrigerator door. During the inspection they said they need to replace the WHOLE refrigerator because of some minor scratches. Then they said they could only replace the door, which sounded like they were doing us a favor. I have lived in more than 5 apartments before. I have never noticed if there were scratches on the refrigerator door, nor was I charged for some scratches on appliances in those apartments. 4. The manager refused communication. We tried to communicate with the manager about our concerns, but the manager directed us to their billing department for any further questions. We thought the expensive rent would bring us better service and management, but we didn't expect them to charge us at every opportunity when we moved out. read more

When you move out watch out for added costs and fees. You will not be able to contest any of these. Management will not reply to communications about move-out procedures. Be sure to request a walk-through with management so that you can be present for any fees they tack on. They send contested fees to a collection agency and you have no choice but to pay, as it will remain on your credit. No one has time for this scam, so they end up just paying the unjustified fees. read more

Deceiving building, the amenities pull you in but don't fall for it, horrible management and poor quality units. You pay a lot of money to live in the middle of nowhere on a loud road (nothing is easily walkable). The management staff treats the tenants like children. The building manager is not well suited for the job, she is not customer focused and is incredibly rude. Everything is an additional charge, they nickel and dime you for everything. I would give 0 stars if I could. I am so glad I did all the follow up before actually submitting my application for this apartment. Leasing agents and manager provided different quotes within 12 hours, demonstrating misalignment and miscommunication within the team. They added $400/mo to my original quote 12 hours after my tour, because according to them the rate they published online and communicated to me during my tour was an error. So don't trust the rent rates they published online. They also made it sound like they were offering excellent specials whose terms could be changed overnight or whenever the leasing office manager pleases. For instance, I was told to apply within 24 hours after my tour (4pm) to take advantage of their look and lease special of 2 additional weeks free + $250 credit. 16 hours after my tour, when I called again to confirm a few details, I was told the look and lease special no longer applies to me because it's past midnight of the day of my tour. I would rather pay higher to live in a community with a transparent and supportive leasing management team, not one who keeps trying to scam their future residents with misinformation. I was really excited about this apartment community the same day of my tour, but today, the leasing manager completely changed my mind - will not even consider applying to stay here at all. read more

I have lived at The VERVE for a few years now. The Verve is our dream home, for several reasons: the most obvious is the heated salt water swimming pool and hot tub, not to mention the community room with the large screen TV, the game room with the best old school video games and the fitness room with the latest equipment for working out. But there's something very special about The Verve my neighbors who are so very friendly and lovely people who have enriched my life on so many levels. Last but not least the office staff are so incredibly attentive and responsive. I'll never forget the beautiful gesture Ms. Alexis showered us with gifts because she wanted to make us happier especially during this very difficult time due to Covid-19. Our first surprise bottles of wine left at our door, elegantly packaged - this was after an incredibly stressful work day too so I was so very much appreciative!
