Needs battery every year. Safety issues. Stolen packages and vandalized cars 10cars got their tires slashed. I know a guy that got his car stolen. Going thru the train tracks will take at least 10 minutes. No security cameras. Nobody gets caught. It's a trap with the rent. They increase until you will be forced to leave. read more

This is an UNSAFE neighborhood. My electric bike got stolen inside MY balcony. I am nowhere near the main street, and my apartment is also not visible to the parking lot so the theft is definitely premeditated by someone roaming around Madrone apartments. When I called the leasing to report this, Taniesha said "Well, you should've locked your bike, it happens all the time here ~ someone even got their bike stolen on the thirdfloor in another building." Taniesha was not empathetic to my concern and gaslit me, suggesting it was my fault. It's inside MY balcony, and the Fence is as tall as me and has a lot of privacy, so how could some random thief just see my bike? How am I supposed to lock my bike in a balcony? I didn't know that I'm supposed to install a bike rack in an indoor space. The thieves must be scanning the area on purpose, and there is no camera surrounding the apartments, its just in the leasing office. It's also bizzare to think about someone jumping over my balcony, or using a ladder to steal my bike. I felt violated and the management did not offer to do anything about my concern. What's next? Those thieves breaking my sliding door from the balcony then break in to my place? And guess what? There's no cctv cameras surrounding my area. For a tiny 600sqft *luxury* apartment that I pay $3.2k a month for, I was expecting them to have more security! UPDATE: They only gave me an update about the security measures that they're taking AFTER I posted the review on google reviews. If I did not do that, They would have never given me an update after the phone call I had with them. read more

We lived at Madrone for two and a half years and absolutely loved every moment of our stay here. Below are some highlights of our stay Staff The team is friendly, professional and very flexible. All maintenance requests are serviced on the same day with clear and efficient communication. Right from the time we decided to tour these apartments till the time we gave them our move-out notice, our journey was as smooth as it could have ever been Location The apartments are located at walking distance from 2 substantial parks (Rengstorff and Stevensons), both of which also have tennis courts. It also helps that there are numerous grocery stores within 10 minutes driving distance (Whole Foods, Safeways, Trader Joes). The closest cal-train stations (San Antonio, Mountain View) are 10 minute drives as well. Apartments One of the best things about Madrone is how economically their apartments are priced as compared to rest of the Mountain View area. Specifically, we stayed in the newly renovated 2BHK apartments and found these to be spacious with huge walk-in closets. There are facilities such as gyms, swimming pool and a club-house, all of which are very well-maintained. We toured 30+ apartments during our preview trip to the Bay Area (mainly Mountainview and Sunnyvale). We were looking for something central, modern, safe and with EV charging capabilities. This place is next to a major tech company (Gbus stop is 4 mins walk away) and only about a bike ride away from the train station to go to the city. It's a hidden gem! (Some of the pictures online were older, so do visit the place in-person!) It's a great mix of modern floor plans (there are three new buildings which are comparable to the new complexes like the dean) and mountain resort feel. We have modern amenities with peace and quiet of a suburb. We also loved how spacious the new buildings felt compared to many other ones we saw with great views overall and not necessary the view of the neighbor's balcony similar to other complexes. The new buildings has typical prometheus feel and touches such as modern bathroom sinks, kitchen, hardwood, in-unit washer dryer, the latch system, etc. The top floor has vaulted ceilings as well. For me seeing community herb garden was so cool with all the modern amenities being offered at the same time! Something that other places cannot offer. The prices were reasonable, given everything we wanted on our list! We received one month off promotion, which was less than other communities but the prices were lower, so the new effective amount was comparable to others. Our building has a Tesla charger in the enclosed and secure underground garage, which was a huge plus for us. The swimming pool, gym, clubhouse and the landscaping were amazingly maintained and clean! 5 stars for all the amenities! Saving the best for the last! The staff is incredible! Major shout out to Fadi who was super friendly, very knowledgeable, warm, and accommodating guy that we had the pleasure of working with. Just to name a few, we visited many potential places such as Novo, the dean, Hadley, Melrose, Verve, MV, Village, Dumus, Avalon towers, and more, but this place provides the friendliest service (thanks Fadi) and great experience. I feel very comfortable knowing who I will be working with during my long lease period! Also, the property director Taniesha was amazing and warm, and we enjoyed having a wonderful conversation with her giving us additional comfort that we are working with great people! Cons: Security Issues (big time): 1) Mailbox Thefts: all mailboxes have been robbed, 3 times in last 2 months, some neighbors report losing immigration documents (and management is still yet to install wireless cameras, due to "aesthetic concerns") 2) Constant + frequent theft of bicycles, car break-ins (mine too) 3) Lots of random people entering/loitering on the premises 4) Management hasn't really addressed any of these issues, except to give vanilla, boiler-plate responses. Noisy: 1) lots of maintenance and renovation, esp. during WFH + COVID + Fire Season, with little/no advance notice) 2) For whatever reasons, leafblowing 3-5 days/week. 3) Right next to Caltrain tracks, which carry Caltrain as well as Freight Trains late at night (and who blare their horns well into 3-4am) Pros: Nice landscaping, convenient amenities. People at leasing office are nice, I just wish more would be done to resolve above^ issues. read more

I lived at Madrone for one full year 2022-2023 Overall it was a great place and I would recommend it. ****PROS: *Staff Response, communicative, friendly Madrone is owned by Prometheus and from my experience, it's pretty high quality. Currently moved to an apartment owned by Equity and now I know I shouldn't have taken Madrone for granted! Madrone had decent hours to contact staff, and was available more than 4 days a week (iirc all 7 days!), and tbh just overall very friendly. I cannot stress how much this really improved my quality of life: simply knowing that I wouldn't have to fight to get basic information or responses to requests and being able to trust that the staff is on your side! *Landscape/Facilities Beautiful, filled with flowers and trees Well maintained and clean pool and common areas Loved being able to take in the California sunshine in common areas and the walks to package pickup were never really a chore when you get to breath in the fresh air and walk through the flowers and fruit trees. *Location Accessible to 101 Safe neighborhood Super close to Target, Whole foods, etc complex ****CONS: * Insulation?? Construction materials?? As noted by many in the reviews the building construction is definitely lacking in something. I'm not a building expert so idk what exactly it is but the outcome is two main things: 1) You can very clearly hear your neighbors. We were lucky that we were on the end and only shared a wall with one neighbor who was pretty polite and never had loud things going on. But if you have loud neighbors or are easily bothered by sound...I can see that very much ruining the living experience 2) Temperature inconsistency. When it gets cold outside, it gets colds inside. But somehow when it is hot, the apartment remains hot for a long time even after the temperature drops in the night. It's weird. The heating system functions alright, but really it's such a waste to heat an area that keeps leaking it out. And when you're asleep it's basically impossible to have the heat auto function maintain a good temperature because of the constant leakage. Both me and my roommate had sleep issues in the winter and took us a few weeks to figure out it was the temperature causing this. This was the only reason I took off 1 star * Location (in relation to intersection) I know I put location as a pro, but want to point out that the intersection the building is on: Rengstorff and Central is TERRIBLE It truly has some issues for handling peak rush hour. I've lived in 5 different cities in the Bay Area and 1 in the East Coast and I've literally never seen this level of traffic control failure--especially for handling peak hour. Whether you are trying to walk across it or drive across you will have to wait an absurd amount of time. It's so much worse as a pedestrian too since the intersection is in direct sunlight with no shade. And because pedestrians naturally would get fed up of having to wait that long for such a short distance there's a lot of jaywalking which is stressful as a driver. This of course is of no fault of the apartment but do note that if you are frequently going across that intersection (say for a daily commute) it could add 0 minutes or potentially up to 16 minutes to your commute depending on when you enter the intersection (this number is not an exaggeration--we have timed it!) My commute wasn't even in the direction of the intersection--it was the other way! But during rush hour it gets so backed up that it blocks the apartment entrance. When coming home during rush hour, I have literally just parked in some other house a 5 min walk away and walked back to Madrone so I wouldn't have to approach the intersection and then move my car later. It's ridiculous. Since my daily commute was in the opposite direction, it was overall fine still. But if it was through the intersection I think I would have gone insane. Again, no fault of the apartment, but just note that the Google Maps times probably don't account for this intersection's issue. No stars off for this, just think people should know and maybe explore it themselves during rush hour before committing to a place and also I wanted to rant about how bad the intersection is. read more

I lived at Madrone for almost 2 years. During that time I heard every foot step, burp and bowel movement from my neighbors. You can hear EVERYTHING!! My neighbor would let her dog use her patio, connected to mine, as a restroom that was never picked up. Weeks and weeks turned to months and the dog poo and pee piled up. The smell was horrible and crept into my apartment. My patio was unusable and my apartment smelt like dog feces. I worked with the staff to correct the issue with little success. I had enough and decided to remove myself from the terrible situation so I found a new place to live. Madrone and staff had no ability to understand the situation and made me pay the lease termination fees to remove myself from a situation hazardous to my health. If you value your health and happiness. Stay away from Madrone Apartments. read more

The best apartment community experience I've had since moving to the Bay Area in 2014. I just re-upped for another year after moving each year for the past three years. Yays: - Great location. Closest grocery store is 3 minutes away. Costco, Pet Smart and other necessities less than 10 minutes away. Google and Facebook shuttles also stop right outside. Multiple Google campuses within 10 minutes or less. - Super friendly and helpful staff. - Well-kept grounds. A lot of flowers/plants (even herb and fruit gardens), which means I occasionally have to "hustle" past a few bees so I can preserve my streak of never getting stung. Ain't nobody got time for that. - Modern apartments with nice finishes (speaking for buildings 1 and 2). - I never hear neighbors or animals frolicking in wee and/or obscure hours. - No pungent smells permeating the hallway air. Ventilation is on fleek. Nays (first world problems): - Some apartments face Central Expressway...and the Caltrain tracks that run along the same road. I eventually got used to the train and can now sleep through it. But there are times I do have to turn the tv up for a minute (cursed be the freight train that goes by somewhere between 1030pm and midnight). For most apartments in the community, this won't be an issue. - For the size of the community, the pool is on the smaller side. And if you don't enjoy kids doing what kids do, you might find yourself irritated if you wanted to have a quiet day near or in the pool. I recently had to get out because I got super soaked in the eye twice and almost hulked out on some single digit children "get off my lawn!" style. - Only 2 grills, and one has consistently had a serious knee injury. I'd recommend having one on your porch/patio that meets the property standards. read more

I waited for quite a while before writing this review, just in case I was missing something that others seem to have pointed out. Here's the deal: People seem to only be leaving reviews of Madrone if there is something overt to complain about. This is pretty typical on Amazon, and because it's not like Madrone will offer you 10% off your coffee for checking in, there are no benefits to leaving a positive review among those who have nothing to complain about. I've lived in many apartments (and many cities) in my life, and have never been so happy as with Madrone. What a stellar community, great location, absolutely beautiful amenities and apartment in general. I'm in one of the newer buildings, right off Rengstorff Ave. It's not too loud at all (yes, you can hear the train if you concentrate on it during waking hours, but I'm a light sleeper and haven't woken once to the train or any other outside noises). The apartment is perfect. I couldn't be happier with the layout, flooring, lighting, furniture, bathroom situation, kitchen utilities, etc. The patios are a great size; I love to sit out with a book and a glass of wine to watch the sunset. It's easy to walk to the grocery store (Fresh And Easy), Starbucks, the park, Mi Pueblo (delicious cooked food as well), and several restaurants, salons, and shops up Rengstorff Ave. The immediate area feels very safe for a young, petite female, even at night. The gym is okay; the weight machines are currently not working (cords do not "snap back" after lifting or pulling, but I was told maintenance would see to these?). Ellipticals, bikes, and treadmills are of great quality, and you can change the thermostat and TV settings while you're there. The clubhouse and pool area are a dream; please see my pictures on this Yelp page. In short: Love Madrone, staff are incredibly kind and attentive, and I'm so happy here. Fantastic service and amenities Spent a long time researching apartment complexes in the South Bay area. We have now been in Madrone for 6 months, and we are very happy here. The service is fantastic - the maintenance team fixed our dishwasher within 2 hours of calling them, the team extended the gym opening hours to 24/7 on the request of residents recently, and leasing office is very helpful for any issue you have. Bianca and Dipna are particularly great. The communal areas are fantastic, especially the heated pool and the towels plus modern machines in the gym. We hired out the Clubhouse at no cost for our daughter's birthday party, and this is a great perk. Highly recommend read more

A beautiful place, well cared for, and exceptional maintenance. Anything we have needed was handled immediately. The unit was ready to move in with full services and no-slip panels on our stairs, something we noticed installed in our neighbor's units. What a nice touch. The pool is always warm and when it is open its always clean. We loved the fire pit and hot tub. We have used common areas multiple times with no hassle and no fuss. Visited my friend on a Friday evening and I felt so sorry for him living in this sad community. It was 7.30pm and he was scared to turn on volume on his TV, we watched a movie with zero audio and just reading subtitles. Do you know why? Because property management was not able to handle a harassing neighbor who bangs on the bedroom wall all the time for any tiny noise and also shows up on the door without mask during covid days. This is so scary and painful. Very poor management. I do read a few previous comments related with thin walls in this community. Why can't management handle this thing seriously? We have been living in Madrone for almost five years now. The apartments are very clean, modern and very well maintained. We love the big windows which make the rooms very bright. The staff is also a big plus. They are very friendly and responsive. Whenever we were in need of a repair they got it done within a day max. We have been staying in Madrone since summer 2019. Madrone management staff team are the best we had so far and everyone is very professionally and friendly. We first stayed at a 1b unit for one year and now transferred to a new 2b home with more space and less noise to accommodate working from home. Thanks to Dipna who supported us all the way and made our transfer experience extremely smooth. Also shout out to Mike and Lauren who showed us our homes and helped with our move-in. Pros: - Great property management staff who are very responsive - Apartments are spacious and cozy with large windows and balcony - Beautiful neighborhood surrounded with redwood trees - Nice little herb/citrus garden where you could pick up ingredients for your cooking - Mostly renovated with brand new appliances (nice A/C) - Convenient location for commuting to work before the pandemic and easy access to Safeway and San Antonio shopping center - Close to Caltrain too, which can be either a pro or con, but you will get used to the horn Cons: - Noise isolation not perfect between neighboring apts - Delivery folks having some difficulties locating buildings and units read more

Madrone was our home for more than 4 years! Apartments are nice and quiet, and the location is very good! We had a lot of different experience here, but the new staff is the BEST! They are very professional and paid attention to EVERY our request. The maintenance team was always ready to help and they came right away to resolve any issues. Wonderful community! The amenities are gorgeous - from the apartments, grounds, gym, pool, etc - you can smell the eucalyptus and citrus trees just walking around the premises. But additionally the folks in the office are incredibly responsive and just genuinely caring people. They don't forget about you after you sign the lease. We traveled to North Carolina for our wedding and were welcomed back with a bottle of prosecco and a card signed from the whole team waiting at our door! By far the best community I've ever lived in. My wife and I moved into a 2BR apartment in late 2019 and just renewed our lease for another year because of the amazing experience we've had. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept (even throughout the quarantine) with lavender, a citrus orchard, and herb garden, and are a great place to walk your dog. The amenities are also great, and while many were closed throughout the beginning of the epidemic (and a couple still are), management has begun to open the pool, hot tub, and rec. room on a reservations-only/limited basis so that residents can safely enjoy them, which we greatly appreciated. The units are also high quality--the kitchens come with a lot of space and all of the appliances are well-made. We love the amount of living and storage space we have. However, the most incredible part of living here is the staff. I've lived in about 7-8 rental properties over the course of my life, and Madrone's management and maintenance crew are the best in the business. The few maintenance requests we've needed to place were frequently handled the very next, if not the same day, and every email I sent the leasing office was answered within 24 hours. Maintenance regularly disinfects and cleans all common areas so that they remain safe for use, and I've never noticed any pest activity in our unit or any of the common areas (including the trash rooms). Any complaints we voiced to management were either swiftly addressed or met in the middle. The rent is on the higher side, but this is one of the few cases where I feel 100% comfortable saying that you get what you pay for here in terms of quality of living space and service. It's been a year since I moved in Madrone, everything has been working great and I'm really happy that I found this place. Staff at Madrone are very friendly and nice, they always try their best to help you out. The leasing process with them was very easy. Couple weeks ago, I thought I was gonna move out so I gave them move out notice, but due to some personal life changes recently, I decided to stay with Madrone for another year, luckily my apt hasn't been rented out yet, the staff was very considerate and efficient, they helped me renew the lease almost instantly. Another thing that I love about Madrone is the common area like pool, Jacuzzi and bbq, they clean everything everyday, there are rosemary, mint etc growing right next to bbq, easy and convenient. The service maintenance is very speedy, normally I submit a service, they will send maintenance staff the next day. Very efficient, I love it. This is the finest apartment complex my wife and I have ever lived in. The building and apartment are great, of course, but it's the ridiculously hospitable, friendly, and insanely helpful staff that set this place apart. They have (1) given us an extremely warm welcome and made all of the paperwork signing a joy, (2) have helped us with any small issues that have come up, (3) routinely accept packages for us and even sometimes deliver them to our door, and (4) set up black out curtains for us! Seriously, who does that? We are overjoyed, and plan on staying for a long time. read more

Updating review: I am a financial goody-goody. We pay all of our bills early. Well, imagine how we felt when we received an eviction notice (no prior warning) because the office made an accounting mistake. If that wasn't outrageous enough, when I went in to address the issue, the leasing specialist (who had signed off on the notice) treated me in a very unprofessional, condescending manner because I was upset. Wouldn't anyone be upset to receive an unwarranted eviction notice? A few days later, the manager owned up to the mistake and issued a written retraction and apology (at my request). She blamed short staffing for the discrepancy...sounds like she has to deal with a lot of complaints. That is a rough position to be in, but worse for me, since I'm paying for it! :( Most of the people in the leasing office are pleasant enough and have good intentions, but the poor results* speak for themselves. [*some results due to uncontrollable issues (apparently "corporate" is one of them) and turnover, with others definitely controllable] As a tenant, I expect to regularly have positive experiences regardless of circumstance. Around here, positive experiences seem to be the exception, not the rule (as opposed to the other way around). Further, during the entire springtime, the whole complex kept/keeps getting emails ending with "we appreciate your patience." Our patience has been drained. For example, there have been numerous water shutdowns due to construction...even leading one of the neighbors to contact the legal authorities at the City of Mountain View...he was able to immediately break his lease with no penalty, apparently because Madrone was breaking the law. Unfortunately, many of us do not have the flexibility to up and move. On a plus side, my refrigerator was making weird noises, and maintenance was responsive...that is, after 2 tries to get the leasing office to send them over. Also, after the crime last winter, the security service seems like it's increasing its hours which is good. ------- The prior comments posted on here are fair. This place is OK, but one should definitely proceed with caution: 1) It is very noisy due to the train and construction (if you work from home, come back in a year), 2) A car on property was stolen (late Dec), 3) The security service response time is poor (at least when I called them), 4) The leasing office is hit or miss depending on who you're speaking with (Agree with the prior post. Lately, I frequently do not get a "straight answer" - very frustrating). 5) You need to be sure to double check your paperwork - I have found errors on multiple occasions. In summary, there is certainly room for improvement. That being said, everything in Mountain View is expensive and there are benefits to being part of a managed community (e.g., maintenance staff is responsive and good, mgmt tries to host "cute-sy" events to make up for inconveniences - not really an equal trade, but I guess they are trying...). ***On a side note, the intersection of Rengstorff + Central is brutal during rush hour. If you need to cross Central in the morning, you may want to do a "drive by" during rush hour to experience it first hand. read more

A very UNPLEASANT and HORRIBLE experience Please avoid this horrible apartment. There are other excellent apartments in the area, save yourself some money and headache. This is by far the worst property management, that I've ever dealt with. The staff is rude and incompetent. After I moved they charged me over $400 even though there was nothing wrong with it. The left trash outside my apartment now I being charged for it. These people are horrible, they only care about how they can make money. Zero care for the will being of people. I'm not surprised of all the negative reviews on this place, luckily I signed a short lease agreement for 6 months only while I was looking for my next home. Dog poop every where your kids can't even play outside. The parking spots are so small it's ridiculous. Again save yourself and avoid this place. I promise you it's not worth living here. read more

My husband and I were moving across the country and relied on virtual tours. Vincent was very helpful in being prompt to show us 2 apartments same day of our inquiry. We loved the newly renovated option and all the amenities. Moving forward, the application and lease process was simple. Any questions we had, the office staff was responsive. In addition, we planned to send some Amazon packages prior to our arrival, however they were too big for the Amazon locker so Vincent put the packages inside our home for us. Living here for the past 3 years with our small family, I can confidently give Madrone a 5 star rating. We are sad to leave after all the good times we've had here. Let me start by giving some context on the history of the property. There was some construction a few years and possibly not the best staff, that's why you'll see some early 1 star reviews. Staff has changed, construction is complete, and the overall experience is awesome. The current staff of Curtis, Samatha, Mike, and Anthony are as friendly as can be and will bend over backwards for you. The location is phenomenal, close to Rengstorff Park, Google, shopping centers, and the 101. Their clubhouse grounds are awesome and rarely used. We'd were able to host great parties at the patio and clubhouse. When we needed repairs they were fixed quickly. If we needed just a bit more help to move that new couch into house their staff was also there to help. Can't say enough, great experience. read more

We moved in to Madrone back in 2014. When we first moved here the previous management was terrible and the ongoing construction was awful. However, the management has all changed (for the better) and the renovations look great! All of the staff here is very courteous to my small family, especially our 2 year old as he loves to go get "treats" (smarties) from the office. The amenities are awesome. The pool is always clean and we have used that and the clubhouse multiple times for various parties. This has been such a nice perk for us as we have been able to entertain many friends over the past few years. The staff is always accommodating on this. Even Molly would sometimes bring any small packages that were delivered to me while I was at the pool with my small child among my friends. My friends were always super impressed with how friendly the staff here is and that I would actually be friends with the management. Mike, from maintenance, is always on top of things and if any issue arises he will get it fixed immediately. He is also very charismatic and extremely competent. Anthony, Samantha, and Curtis are always ready to help too. They are all extremely friendly and helpful when needed. Not only are they hear to listen but they truly are your friends. Curtis even helped me take one of my deliveries home for me since he could see that my hands were full being pregnant and taking care of a wiggly 2 year old. The people at Madrone clearly go above and beyond in service and are always willing to listen and help! We have been so impressed with how friendly and accommodating the staff is and have enjoyed the neighborhood activities in getting to know the other great neighbors that live here. I've lived in Madrone apartments since Nov 2017, and one thing I've always been impressed with is the maintenance team's quick response to any issues I've had. Every apartment has small issues, but even the major ones.. such as a leaky water tank which needed replacing was handled promptly and efficiently and without any fuss. I was even provided a new refrigerator after mine began having temperature issues. Madrone used a simple online app to communicate with the residents and the service request is part of the software. It's simple to use and they update you daily on the status of your requests. read more

I just moved in to a brand new unit at Madrone. Can't ask for a better place! We drove by in the middle of a shopping trip, and arranged a tour on the spot. They have a range of units, with different sizes and noise levels. The complex has a gym, pool and hot tub. The leasing staff (Curtis) were great! They offered a generous move-in special, and quickly answered my endless stream of questions. read more

I've been living at Madrone for about six months, and it's been a great experience so far. We came from another Prometheus property, where we had a TERRIBLE experience, so we were a little concerned about the management, but things have been wonderful since we moved in. We've been especially impressed with maintenance; we had a small issue with our shower, and they came back three times to make absolutely sure the problem was fixed. They, and everyone in the leasing office, are so friendly and helpful. We are so glad we moved here! read more

This is a fairly reasonable place to live. The complex is really big, so it doesn't have any intimate feel. The locations is close to Caltrain tracks, but not to the station, so you get noisy trains but not much in return. The condos there aren't particularly big, yet have in-unit washers & driers which is nice. There is Walgreens within walking distance and some basic food option. The pool is pretty standard. The staff was not attentive at all plus this place is greatly overprices. Apart from that, it's ok. read more
