lived here for almost 13 months (feb 2025-march 2026) loved the location and size of apartment complex- this was my second prometheus property ive ever lived at (i lived at the hadley prior to this in 2022-2025). while madera is a tad bit older and very Y2K (i think the property is 10-15 years old?) the quality of the structure itself is more robust compared to the hadley. the only pros i liked about this unit were: the location (i love downtown mountain view, the size of the apartment complex (i came from the hadley where that is a super big community- too many people!!! that was too overstimulating. madera is more midsize ), and the sense of community (people were very active on the tenant forum, had seasonal get togethers/ activities, plus the community itself organizes a bi weekly brunch thing (not ran by the madera staff btw, this is soley organized by the people that live here!) yes there is an ant problem like everyone else is saying- ive only observed this in the spring and summer time- use the ant baits they sell at target. my only gripe about this place and reason of why i wouldn't come here again is the quality of maintenance. when i toured the unit i moved into there was a functioning door knob to the outdoor patio- i had this in my video i recorded touring the unit. moving into the apartment, the knob was changed into a weird lock thing where i could only open and lock the door from the inside (see pictures) also the quality of paint at move in wasnt that great. i also attached pictures of what that looked like at the time of move in. you do get charged for paint maintenance at the time of move out so be forewarned that even though you will be charged, the quality of the paint labor isnt even that great for the next tenant. i was not charged for paint at the hadley but that complex is new... idk... im still questioning how apartment complexes come up with these crazy charges i had my fridge replaced mid lease due to ice maker issues. communication was good and everything but i wish they did a more careful job of moving the fridge in and out of my apartment while i was not home at my apartment (i gave them permission to do this while i was in the office). i noticed door scratches/scuffs at my front door and the fridge replacement was not clean (im a clean freak!) i also had a move out inspection i requested to be present in and the maintenance person that was conducting it didnt put his bootie covers on (i have a no shoe in the house policy) - that kinda rubbed me the wrong way. just another reason why i wasnt found of the maintenance quality. living at the hadley, their maintenance puts on booties regardless every time coming into the unit!!! people have complained about the caltrain noise. honestly i dont mind it much lol. i lived in the unit towards the back of the complex (on villa street so i didnt hear much of it) BUT for two years living at the hadley my units were facing evelyn - so i def heard the caltrain noise then... didnt mind it tho but i know those who are sensitive to that would hate it would i live at this community again? probably not. if i ever move back to the apartment life (i now live in a house), i would probably try my luck at 100 moffett who is also ran by prometheus. it is the same community size and similar age of madera... but i am weary of the maintenance staff / quality. maybe i was spoiled by the hadley but if they are all prometheus properties you would expect the same quality all around read more

We had a very frustrating experience with the leasing office at this apartment, and I feel it's important to share it here. My husband and I were interested in a specific unit and first visited on March 30. At that time, we were told the unit would be ready by Thursday, April 2. We followed up multiple times in person. When we returned on April 2 (Thursday), we were told the unit was still not ready and that it might be ready by Monday, April 6, and that we would definitely be notified. We were even told that our phone number had been clearly noted and "stuck on the computer" so they wouldn't forget to contact us. Because we really wanted this specific unit, we kept following up and ended up visiting the leasing office multiple times over this period. In fact, we interacted with almost everyone in the office -- they all recognized us and knew exactly which unit we were asking about. In order to wait for this unit, we even extended our Airbnb stay, which resulted in additional cost for us. So this wasn't just a matter of time wasted -- it also caused us unnecessary financial burden. However, today (April 8), we saw that the unit is listed online as "available now," and yet no one from the leasing office has reached out to us. This whole process showed a clear lack of communication, accountability, and professionalism from the staff. Despite repeated in-person follow-ups, clear expressions of interest, and their assurances that we would be contacted, we were ultimately ignored. Honestly, in hindsight, I'm glad we experienced this before signing a lease. It gave us a clear picture of how things are handled here, and we now feel very fortunate that we didn't end up renting from this apartment. read more

Here is the Cons section the my previous review: Cons - Ants: they tend to come out after there's been a lot of rain or it's really hot. This is common and happens to everyone (even people on the top floors and even the cleanest of units will get ants). This topic seems to be an unspoken thing at Madera so I will shed light on it so others don't feel ashamed or like they're the only ones with this problem. We didn't know ants were as big an issue until we met and talked to other neighbors who had similar issues. Madera has pest control that comes around once a week on Mondays I believe that you can request come to your unit if you call leasing, but it's probably faster to get your own ant traps (we got ours from Target) and place them in the areas the ants are coming out from. After 2-3 days they should clear up. Within the past year we only had ants once (compared to 2-3 outbreaks in previous years) so maybe it's not as bad as it used to be. I will say that I've never had ant issues in other properties so I'm not sure why it's a thing at Madera, but you can manage it and the staff are aware so don't be afraid to tell them. - Noisy upstairs neighbor - if you have noisy neighbors, you will hear them unfortunately. During our time at Madera we've had numerous neighbors above us and never had too much issue. Our current neighbors by the time we moved out were extremely loud stomping everywhere they walked and talking loudly. I could tell where they were in their unit based on how heavy they walked around. They were also not always respectful of the quiet hours. Some times they'd have friends over and be rowdy well past 10PM and other times they were just loudly stomping around at 3:30AM until they decided to go to bed. When we tried to voice complaints to leasing, they weren't really much help (they would simply call and ask the people to be mindful of how sound travels in units... as you can imagine, the neighbors didn't care). By this time we decided it was time to move. Our neighbors weren't the sole reason for us moving, but they sure did make the decision easy to make so best of luck to you if you get stuck with loud people living above or next to you! - Garage incident / unusable cameras / lack of help from leasing: if your car gets hit while parked in the garage, good luck getting any usable footage off the garage cameras to report to the policy. The leasing staff are also not very forthcoming with providing camera footage either. The police will have to request it in order for Madera to share anything. The police seemed unaware that they needed to request video until we told them Madera wouldn't give us the video for them to actually do anything. And of course, once they got it, apparently they couldn't find anything useful from it. When my bf had tried to ask Madera earlier on if there was any help info on the video, they could have been more forthcoming, but instead it felt like hitting a wall and not getting much help. This incident was the main reason I gave Madera 4 instead of 5 stars (plus the last upstairs neighbor sprinkled in as well). Despite the cons, Madera was a great place to live and I truly miss our home and our time here. This is the first place my bf and I lived in together so it holds a special place. If I had to do it all again, I would move here again (except maybe consider top floor only). In many ways it felt like living in a resort given how clean and nice everything looks. When we moved back to LA I jokingly wished I could pick the building up and move it with us so we wouldn't have to move out of the building. Obviously, I'd highly recommend Madera if looking for your next home; and just be mindful of the potential cons listed. read more

I moved from dc to mountain view in 2021 and signed a 15 month lease. The person who helped us at the leasing office was amazing but he's not there anymore. Cons: seems to require 15 month leases on some apartments. They raised our rent by 10%, wasn't surprised because we had Covid rate. The apartment rent went up additional 1500$ on their website. Not sure if I would pay $5500 for the apartment 1. Parking is free yay, and it's assigned but the assignment of space to where your apartment is, kinda off. 1.1 right next to cal train and can hear cal train at night if windows are open but you get used to it 1.2 walking distance to Castro 2. Our apartment door to elevator was soooo far that sometimes we parked in the visitor lot so we can unload groceries faster instead of parking at our assigned spots 3. Packages are using amazon lockers but sometimes people leave packages outside the doors for some reason 4. It's hard for delivery and food people to know where to drop off because the entrances gets confusing here 5. Right next to Sunday farmers market which is a huge plus 6. If u live in building b and facing the pool, it's so loud that we couldn't leave the doors or windows open at night sometimes. Once u closed the door u couldn't hear ish the young kids screaming in the pool. I would chose to live in building A if u don't like the noise 7. Can't really hear neighbors but we had a neighbor that had this really loud base that it wasn't loud but when ur trying to sleep, it was super annoying 8. Non smoking and allows pets 9. We paid apartment to clean so we just had to move stuff out and we paid them $210 for them to clean it. 10. Tried to charge us for paint for wear and tear but they removed it after we asked about it 11. Visitor parking is free and street parking is free and usually if u are over 5 hours it doesn't seem like people get tolled 12. They started having events after Covid died down 13. Our dishwasher wasn't cleaning well and they didn't fix it and said to use finish jet dry but it didn't work so we were moving out soon and was like whatever 14. The two bedroom apartments have rain shower 15. The layout we had was box kitchen which was so cramped and didn't work with our style but it's just our preference read more

We moved here recently and we really enjoy living here. Location is great as it is super close to Downtown Mountain View with lots of restaurants. Caltrain is just across the street which can be a little noisy but our kids love watching the train so we purposely picked a unit facing the train track!! And I cannot say enough about Justin who works at the leasing office. He has made this move that extra easier!! He is super patient and attentive. The apartment complex has great people renting that build a solid community however there has been a fairly big decline in satisfaction from several perspectives since we have been here for over a year: - the amenities (which is the major draw for most people and command the top prices) are often down, damaged or broken. The fire pit was out of commission all last winter and now you have to put on and let it "run for 3 min" smelling an alarming amount of gas in order for it to potentially light - which you will have a chance to do as soon as you navigate the hazard cones that block it. The spa jets have been broken for weeks and packages frequently go missing due to the new locks in the building that while WiFi connected often don't work to let in deliveries. - the rent game - I will admit Prometheus isn't the only company to do this - is horrendous. They offer new residence substantially better rates than established renters and then put a bunch of hoops to jump through like move out for 10 days and then back in and you can get similar rates. No nod for loyalty or community building. I feel the bias here against price fixing and undue burden on folks who it would be hard to jump through those hoops must break some laws. - covid - the team is truly trying to keep up but are far to reactive. Other apartment buildings are allowing reservations for single households (in accordance with guidelines) but ours immediately shut down with no concession to rent. It's evident this is a for profit business but one that doesn't value current renters. If you are considering moving in just ask to look at their active building community wall to see how current renters feel - it is plagued with lost packages, broken amenities, unfair rent negotiations, and invitations to events that no community members have ever managed to attend due to them being "sold out" before they are even posted. Also ask how to contact the office - they very well may forward your call to another building as they are infrequently on site. read more

We must have toured 20+ properties in the last couple of weeks and she was by far the best  person we met - from understanding what we need, showing us the units and community with a deep love for the place (and not just because it had to be done) and being so quick and thorough with answering all our follow-up questions. When looking for a home, you need someone to reassure you that you will be comfortable and will have all your needs met. Madera was at the top of our list just because of the pleasant experience we had with the leasing staff. Unfortunately, we didn't land up moving into a home because - we found a bigger home (our preference) elsewhere. My husband and I were on the hunt of moving to a new apt and we came across of Madera apts. We contacted them to get a self guided tour of their available units and we couldn't be more pleased with amazing customer service provide by Justin at Madera! He was extremely patient with us and he was able to answer all of our questions. We went back and forth so many time with him and Justin was able to accommodate with every questions we had every time. He was very responsive with his email responses and phone calls. Although we decide not to move to Madera because we needed a bigger space, but I am still thinking about the gorgeous apartment every day! It is walking distance away from downtown and this place might be the best apt complex in Mountain View! This place feels cozy and it feels very homy! My partner and I moved in yesterday and from start to finish the experience was remarkable. When we toured the property a week ago, Justin was knowledgeable and courteous. We didn't even have an appointment and Justin's schedule appeared full with other tours, and yet he took the time to answer questions and to provide us a tour in between scheduled viewings. Justin also went out of his way to help us with paperwork and to ensure we got into the proper apartment. The day of move-in we were helped by Ashlyn, who was also exceedingly helpful and kind. The move-in process could not have been smoother. Lastly, our apartment is wonderful. The appliances are all up-graded and the space boasts exceedingly nice flooring and carpet. And despite being directly across from the train the sounds are quite muted. Our apartment affords lovely views of trees and of the quiet, beautiful Mountain View neighborhood it's positioned in. We're blocks from some of the best dining in the city as well. I'd highly recommend this complex to anyone. read more

My preference was to not respond here but to talk in person with the hope that my update could provide how this had been resolved positively. However I have attempted to reach out at least 8 times with messages and requests to speak and while I received an initial call back when this post was originally written, I have not heard back again since. That means we have spoken exactly once since last year February 2020. It seem disingenuous to claim that you are here to assist as I keep getting other staff members who keep saying they will follow up but do not. Overall, I disagree with your framing and response here as it is inaccurate This is an example for everyone to see of the general approach to concerns. It lacks to actually address the issues, but rather attempts to just quickly gloss over. Elevators: No, your claim is untrue. It had actually broken down the week prior to my original post and I had spoken to your staff about it. It took a full day to fix. There was also an occurrence in August, and since posting this there was an occurrence in December. I also confirmed that those days were not due to movers. This seems to imply that you are unaware of what is actually happening in the building. Elevators breaking down on odd occurrences is not unheard of, but this happens about once a month, and people moving in should be aware of this as it causes difficulties with those with strollers. Security: The point is that you implemented changes without thinking it through first, and resulted in negative and compromising situations of images of minors being taken and stored. Furthermore, the overall Latch system is a mess which leaves people in poor situations if connectivity is down (which has happened numerous times) or if a person's phone has died. It defeats the purpose to then also carry a separate card. This, when coupled with the elevators breaking down or being tied up by movers, results in a very cumbersome method to get from an apartment to the garage. Enabling delivery people is also broken now which results in shipments or food deliveries being left outside in the open now. Dishwasher and maintenance Note: this was not a delay of 8 days or even 8 weeks. It was 8 **MONTHS***. During that time the building had numerous empty apartments and could have swapped a dishwasher in. Instead, the coronavirus was disingenuously used as an excuse, and we were left without a working appliance for way too long. It was only fixed when I suggested I file a legal complaint and then suddenly it was fixed within a week. Furthermore when it was replaced, it was replaced poorly and water sprouted all over my unit causing damage (I think I already shared this but let me know if I should do so again). It feels disingenuous to use coronavirus as a reason for all of this. This also says nothing about the poor maintenance for other items which took months to fix and were not a result of the pandemic. Poor staff interactions. This does nothing for me that they were reassigned. I have no desire to have a negative consequence come to someone else. I still felt threatened within my own home, and reprimanding them does nothing for me. My largest issue with this is that there has been zero offer of any type of compensation for all of this. Many of us have rent which is pegged to pre-covid pricing and thus we expect pre-covid service unless accommodations to that have been made. Many of us gave leeway to the the staff to account for covid but it seems that kindness was seen as an opportunity to take advantage of us and instead focus was given to those who were more vocal on the internal chat rooms. There has been little in reciprocal for the accommodations we gave in the initial months of covid. Follow ups are incomplete, and we have had to constantly chase the staff. I wish I could provide a better update, but without providing a way to address these incidences, I do not know how I can do so. read more

Crime is exceptionally high at Madera apartments. The bike room has had over 20 bikes stolen in the past 3 months. A few months before that all of the mail boxes were broken into. Being on the train tracks expect to hear the train every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. When the work out room was open the water was always empty and machines were frequently broken. Packages constantly go missing. Fobs malfunction frequently, so you can't enter the building. Emergency maintenance is slow to respond (my apartment was flooded and no one turned the sink off upstairs until 2 hours later). read more

The staff at the Madera Apartments should be the standard for property management. The price was higher than other properties we considered, but following a walk-through with Sam, I was sold. She really didn't have to sell me anything -- Madera is new, clean, and residents said "hi"when we walked by. It also had the pleasant scent associated with Prometheus Apartments. While we never used the amenities as much as we originally thought we would, they were always well kept and tended to. The fitness center also had free weights which was a huge plus for me. Just like the property, Madera's staff remained pleasant even after we moved in. There were multiple occasions where they went above and beyond. I can list a few here: -My 300lb dining table was unexpectedly delivered curbside instead of into the apartment. I was nearly in tears because I was new in town and had zero help available..yes, even with all the on-demand apps. Amy immediately called someone from maintenance who enlisted the help of one of his friends who happened to be delivering something. They both hoisted the thing into my apartment. -I was expecting a delivery and was panicking when tracking said it was delivered but I didn't get a notification from Madera's system. I was at work so Sam ended up hunting the grounds for my package. It ended up getting delivered the next day -.- -Maintenance requests were always resolved within 24 hours. I was home for one of them and noticed the staff wore special cloth socks over their boots when they stepped inside. HUGE for someone who's a bare-footer at home. We, unfortunately, had to move because of my job but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Madera to anyone even toying with the option. read more

We recently toured this property and fell in love at first glance. Justin, our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. He showed us two available apartments which looked really nice but the top floor unit was our favorite. Justin was extremely helpful to guide us the entire way and would always follow up to see how he could help us. My wife and I have been going apartment hunting for quite some time and it's been very difficult but luckily Justin made it extremely easy for us. My wife and I moved here from LA. Although a bit pricey, it's a wonderful location close to Castro St restaurants, 4 freeways, and the amenities are top notch. I have not been using the pool, despite being heated it's a little too cold in the winter, but I use the gym every week. Our unit has a tall ceiling and wonderful light. At first I was concerned about hearing the sound of Caltrain (the unit is just across the street from the station). This has not proved to be an issue at all. Plus there is an unexpected bonus: the farmer's market on Sundays, it has got to be one of the largest in the Bay Area and they even have Acme bread. read more

My husband and I have lived in Madera Apartments for 3 years. Throughout the years, we have been impressed with the level of service from the office and maintenance staff. Everyone is friendly, responsive, and helpful. The amenities here are great as well - the clubhouse, game room, BBQ, yoga studio, and pool/jacuzzi are all amenities we have enjoyed and will greatly miss! We are moving out of the area to the East Bay, and are sad to be leaving this wonderful community. We would highly recommend to anyone that's looking in the area. We love living here. The grounds and amenities are beautiful...like you'd expect at a first-class hotel. Even better, everything is maintained so it all looks brand new. Upgrades are added frequently so the community gets better as the weeks go by. Speaking of first class, management hosts frequent social events so residents can get to know each other better. Nice touch. The front desk staff has more than helpful and a pleasure to work with. They're a delightful group. Same with the maintenance folks. You get the point. I lived in MADERA from Feb 2014 until Oct 2015. I was sad to go. Such an awesome place. The management, maintenance & leasing staff are all professional, genuine, and quick to respond to your needs. You WILL LOVE LIVING THERE. Amenities are stellar and clean, the grounds are well kept. Non smoking!! I already regret moving to another city and I want to go back to MADERA. This is one of the best apartment complex in the area. Everything used is top quality all around, with nice pools, private community center, gym and even a private theatre! Location is needless to say, very convenient and centralized. You can walk everywhere. Caltrain and Sunday Farmer's Market is just across the street, it is 2 blocks or so to Castro Street and US Postal Service. And the staff members are always very helpful and friendly. Their maintenance crew are specially helpful and responsive to all your needs. Bottom line, it has been a very good experience for me. You will enjoy your stay just as I did even though you may have to pay a little more. It is worth it. Too bad their mascot little fish, Woody, passed away tragically, it was the most beautiful fish I have ever seen, its side fins were like two colorful pom pom in constant motion. read more

My wife and I lived at Madera for a little over two years. If we hadn't moved back to Amsterdam, we'd still be there. Great, bright apartment with a good kitchen. Nice amenities that you can book for private use (particularly the roof top patio), convenient mail room (packages are delivered into lockers, and you receive an email with a PIN for pick up), and fantastic location just a few blocks away from Castro. It's not cheap, of course, but in SV's crazily priced market we decided this was well worth the money. Over the course of two years there was of course some staff turnover, but everyone was friendly, professional, and very helpful. Special shout-out to Yesenia, who - even though we've now left - is still helping us out in trying to get our mail forwarding set up correctly! read more

I was on an 11 month assignment and was dreading moving into an apartment after living in a home for so many years. That all changed when I discovered Madera. You couldn't find a better place to live, great location (just blocks off Castro), great community feel, incredibly well maintained, easy access, right across from the best Farmers Market on Sunday's in Northern Cal, close to the train station and the best staff I have ever worked with. This is the most outrageously priced apartments, with the absolute snobbiest, most unwelcoming management I have ever encountered. The apartments are not at all big or especially nice. The kitchens and pool are tiny. They ask about 5 grand for a tiny two bedroom with not one perk. In fact, a parking spot is an extra $100/ month. Want to bring a pet? Another $100/ month. When I asked the manager, Ashley, for a break on the parking spot (yes, I was actually considering spending an outrageous 5g/ month), she laughed and said "most enquirers are Eco-conscious and don't drive". Honey, last time I checked, this was Silicon Valley. I don't want to ride the light-rail to work. Does anyone? If I could give her behavior alone a rating, it would be a zero. The apartments are a three at best, and for $5,000, they are about a negative seven. I can't believe the manager had the audacity to make me feel guilty for my roommate and I both driving, and didn't want to be even a tiny bit kind to me with vacancies galore. Madera Apartments - Apartments Near Me - Mountain View, California

Some positive some negative stuff... The location is awesome for Mountain View, could not be any better, right next to the Caltrain, downtown, and everything you may need in Mountain View. The building is good, the staff is nice. They respond when you have a request but you have to tell them every single thing multiple times before it is sorted. They have a nice pool and a hot tub. The reason I gave 3/5 is the fact that I am bitten by a spider on my first night here (I did not see what bit me) and it gave me very large infectious bites. One bite became as big as the size of my palm, which was worrisome. I would expect bugs/insects at places I would have doubts about its cleanliness, so not feeling 100% right about this place. Beware if you are allergic like me. Now, the details. For instance, we have weekly maid service, they came in to clean the apartment, and as a part of cleaning, they are supposed to replace the towels as well. The towels in the bathroom were replaced, but all the towels in the kitchen disappeared, they took away the dirty ones and did not bring in the new ones. I walked over to the office to ask for the new ones, they said the cleaning crew will bring them tomorrow, and I don't really understand why it is so hard to give me those damn towels, they made me carry other stuff before anyway (see below). About the bites I had on my first night here...I had 6 different bites, one of them got really infected around my elbow. The next day, when the bite became seriously infected over a single day (as big as my palm). I went over to the office to ask what might be the insect/animal that bit me, wondering if any other people had similar complaints? They said it might be a spider or bedbugs. Someone came over to check for bedbugs, nothing like that. Then, they told me that they ordered an inflatable mattress and will give me new comforter and pillows so I wont have to sleep on the same stuff, and the crew will bring them in later during the evening. Around 11:30pm, I walked over to the office again to ask what happened to the inflatable mattress and stuff. The staff changed in the meantime, and the new staff member was like 'oh there is something here I was wondering who these were for?' He gave me the box for inflatable mattress and the comforter and pillows and shut the door on my face and said have a good night. Not really fun to carry everything myself with a seriously infected and hurting arm, and plus I am a skinny female, I don't think that I look like a wrestler, I think the way he behaved was kind of rude. read more

This is the most outrageously priced apartments. I have lived in the city in a 2BR/2BA! Right by caltrain station, all the big amenities in the community, and yes it is a luxurious apartment! And, yet, I paid less than what Madera apartments ask for a mere 1 BR. So, your so called Most Modern and your customer service has any justification for your ridiculous pricing? Everyone, including the management, office staff, maintenance crew, cleaning crew, and security is friendly, helpful and all around pleasant to interact with. I have lived here since August of 2014. Everything here is great. My biggest complaint/complement is when you put in a maintenance request at midnight they are there at 7am, to take care of it so I have to make sure and get up :-). Ashley, the manager is awesome as well. Amy is great as well. All the staff is great from office to maintenance.. The pool is a bit cold in the winter, but the hot tub is plenty warm. You can reserve the community room out which is at the pool, it does not cost extra except a deposit, which is returned to when you return it OK (not hard to do unless you are stupid). There are meeting rooms as well which we use for tutoring. There is a movie room and gaming room which our teenager seems to enjoy.both. They can take their game systems in there. There is a roof top deck too, both have grills that you could cook 30 burgers at the same time. We have a Bocee ball court as well. Workout center too, bike garage. I probably missed something It is not the cheapest place to live but I would highly recommend it., And yes, it is a 3 minute walk to CalTrain/DART or to Castro. Amazing farmers market across the street on Sunday's too. read more

Hands down Madera is the best! The staff is amazing and extremely helpful. Ashley and Amy are two of the most professional individuals I have ever had the pleasure to work with on a professional and personal level. They are very accommodating and always willing to help find a solution to any situation. The maintenance staff is professional and always willing to help. It is obvious that they are part of the team and treated with respect from the management. Most importantly, Madera is one of the most pet friendly apartments in the bay area. The staff goes above and beyond to care for their 4 legged tenants. Every dog that comes through the leasing office is giving love and treats! Yay Madera!
