Zeus Corporate housing rents out a unit here. I call it the hooker hotel. It reminds me of those cheap strip motels with truckers and hookers. Issues are as follows - can't enter the parking lot without scraping the bottom of your car underbody -front electronic gate doesn't work half the time - everything is rusted out and decrepit - non existent sound proofing.. sleeping at night is like camping on the side of a busy freeway - interior of the unit is a time capsule, it's like entering 1965. Quite literally. The appliances, HVAC are decades old. -toilet overflows on a bi weekly basis it was surprising to me I was in the US. read more

My dad just moved out of MapleWood, after living there several years. All the staff are kind and wonderfully helpful and very responsive to any inquiry. A huge plus is Dan, the handyman, lives on site. He is incredibly responsive, helpful and kind with every inquiry. The apartment feels safe, in a gated community requiring key entry at the various gate entrances. The apartment is comfortable, with in-unit laundry. I've been living here for a few months now and will be moving out in about 3 more months. I don't dislike this place, but I feel like it needs a bit more improvement. Pro: Location is pretty convenient relatively quiet overall Ease of access for mailbox, laundry, office quick maintenance work spacious Cons: Management no longer really responsive to concerns, hard to catch in person waste area and cleaning needs work not a lot of storage room I live in a downstairs unit with a patio and every other day I have to sweep out trash that drifted from the garbage area into my patio. I've complained a few times about pet waste being in my parking space and now right in front of my door, but it was never swept up. I had a really good impression when my noise complaint from when I first moved in was immediately addressed, but it seems like things have gone downhill. read more

Maplewood - Apartments Near Me - Mountain View, California

I just moved out of Maplewood apartments and have loved living here. I have lived there since Sep 2016. The only reason I moved was because I bought a place near by. Things I love: Location, location location: really close to Google campus, close to Castro for evening dinners and really close to many parks and cycle trails. Spacious: the unit is very spacious with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large living area. The kitchen is a little small but that wasn't really a priority for me. Pet friendly: Maplewood is dog friendly which is perfect for my little pooch who has loved it here too. Bills: There is only the one electric bill to pay as everything else is covered in utilities. Responsive: the Maplewood team are not always in the office but they have a new cool online system that you can post requests to and someone usually gets on it right away. read more

Quick update. Our deposit check came a few weeks ago. It had all sorts of extra charges that were not mentioned and not applicable. Full costs for repainting apartment (there was one very minor spot), full cleaning cost although I did clean the apartment very thorough and did a check with the manager. We have contacted Maplewood and they refunded us $50. That does not really make a difference, so it still feels like we were screwed and the're not willing to do anything about it. read more

It's a decent housing community - generally pretty quiet, has a pool in the middle that kids actually use in the summer, has underground parking, etc. But where it fails when compared to other apartment courtyards is: - The manager Renee is nice, but almost unreachable for anyone who has a normal work week. She's also fairly slow in execution when she promises to get something done. - They have apartment repairs during the middle of the day when no one with a job can be around to open doors, so instead they give you notices (sometimes less than 24 hours in advance) and just come in themselves during the middle of the day. - Parking lot spaces are assigned, but sometimes someone takes your space, so you park somewhere else, and the next day you get a card on your car saying "This isn't your assigned space. Move or be towed" by some security patrol thing. - Walls are thin, can hear roommates pretty easily. - On a busy corner, so if you live on the outside apartments, you can hear cars. read more

After a long apartment search on the peninsula, I moved into Maplewood three weeks ago. The process by which I find apartments in new places is a complicated mix of about 50 open internet tabs, craigslist, yelp, driving around desired areas, friend recommendations, and arbitrary whimsy. My five star currently means: I would absolutely move in again if given the choice. (Things could change, but that's what an updated review would be for!) It's not like this place is a perfect, live-here-until-I-die home. But for a conveniently located, silicon valley apartment complex, it's exactly what I needed. I have a very good sized 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, with in-unit laundry, in a gated community with gated parking. So far the management has been extremely helpful - always answering the phone, offering help, and responding to emails. I've been very happy in any conversation I've had with Jessica and her manager seems very approachable too. There was a rent deal when I moved in, which made it even more competitively priced. Yes, it's expensive when you compare it to just about anywhere else in the world. But it's very reasonable when you compare it to the surrounding area. The apartments are different levels of renovated, but I liked that since it gave me a few options for flooring and price points. While the complex is older, it seems well maintained and I've had no "ugh I can't believe how old and inefficient this is" moments yet. My neighbors (and all the tenants) seem pleasant and quiet. It's a nice mix of young professionals and families. I'm not someone who is bothered by street noise, so having a street-facing apartment was no problem, but for those concerned, the inward-facing apartments are probably quieter. I haven't seen a single bug in my apartment. The hot water is delightfully hot (and in-unit so you don't have to worry about it running out because of other tenants) and I'm happy to have a dishwasher. I will say that I've been mildly unimpressed with the AT&T internet, but that's probably my own fault since the building is wired for Comcast and I hate dealing with them too much to have good internet. I haven't tried the pool yet, but that's on my agenda! read more

I have been a resident at Maplewood since summer 2014 and have really enjoyed my time here so far! The staff have been great - Dan is an awesome maintenance guy who's quickly fixed any problem I had and Anna in the main office has always been pleasant and quick to answer any questions. The grounds are immaculately maintained by Ramon - the inside of Maplewood is a wonderfully green, vibrant collection of plants, trees and flowers. The apartment buildings are older but mine (and many others) were recently renovated with modern appliances and carpet/flooring/paint. There's plenty of space in the two bedroom apartments and it's nice, comfortable place to call home. The community is located reasonably close to downtown Mountain View, the rapidly improving San Antonio Shopping center, El Camino Real and has easy access to the big highways and Caltrain. There isn't a gym on the property but there are plenty nearby and Mountain View is great to walk/bike/run around as well. There are gas grills that are available next to the pool - if only there was a hot tub I would give this place six stars but for now will keep dreaming! read more

I've lived here for 2 years, going on 3. It's a GREAT place for the money, especially considering the market in Mountain View. Walking distance to Castro and close to shopping, right in between 101 and 280. After reading everyone else's reviews, I have to say: yes, it's a pretty old building. Standard for around here unless you want to pay a few thousand dollars more a month for a brand new place. Still, even though it's old, management does a great job keeping it pretty and updated. The laundry rooms and other common areas are clean, the gardening is very well cared for and Dan the maintenance guy will do whatever you need him to. Super nice guy! The real reason this place gets 5 stars though is Reneé, the community manager in the office. Reneé has gone way out of her way to help me with just about anything. She's always friendly, and always helpful. From looking at the place to signing the contact to move-in to switching to a bigger apartment on site, Reneé has always been amazing! read more

I loved living at Maplewood! The people are the best. Anna, Dan, and Ramon are always available, helpful, and kind. They make it feel and look more like a resort than an apartment complex. In fact, when my father helped me move in, he asked whether it was an "all inclusive"! That's how immaculate the grounds are, and that's how friendly, respectful, and professional the staff is. Anna answered my every call, my every question, and my every email--and she even helped me receive packages. She's the type of manager who goes above and beyond what is expected of her, and you can tell that she doesn't do it because it's the right thing to do. She does it because that's who she is as a person--the ultimate people-person, and the ultimate professional. When I moved out, I told the person taking over my apartment that she is the complex's biggest asset--and I meant it. Dan was so fast and so friendly--any time I needed help with anything, all I had to do was ask and he was right there. He exceeded my high expectations every time I saw him. And Ramon--he always has a smile on his face! He greeted me with kindness every time I saw him, and he kept the grounds clean and beautiful. He even helped me carry boxes up and down stairs on several occasions. I can't say enough about how great this crew is, both as a team and individually. I miss them already. My advice? Move to Maplewood for the great location and clean, pet-friendly apartments. Stay for the people! read more

I've been renting here now for almost 2 years. Management has been changed, they are more/less strict about specific policies. Its older, the Bathroom necessities are constantly breaking (toilet chain, sink, other drains, etc). The shades that they are so strict about being 'perfect' are constantly popping out of place and are very cheap. They are strict about bikes (cant put on your balcony) but don't give you a safe place to lock them up, instead, they offer upper-deck parkers a graveyard where your bikes behind the dumpsters - where it will be hacked apart for pieces. My breaks were ripped out. They had 2 pretty great dog yards when I moved in, they have mentioned they will replace them when they were taken out during a property line dispute, but then they decided against it replacing them and did not communicate that to anybody in the community. (you have to ask for updates)... Then the Community Gate, the code is the same for every resident because it is currently BROKEN. It has been broken since I moved in,Oct 2016. They also promised this would be fixed, but it hasn't been. I mentioned to them packages go missing all the time so the concept of a secure/gated community is completely out - until this becomes resolved. When signing onto a new lease, they list a bunch of stuff that is only valid for their other communities such a fitness center and other amenities they 'say' they provide at Maplewood but do not. The latest is the 'new online payment' system they set up. They are allowing to do a debit card transaction, however that requires $82 service fee. And if your check bounces that is your only choice. That service fee is absolutely horrible, and you basically up my rent 82 bucks, that doesnt include the share bills with the complex and the monthly service fee associated with that. In the bay area, come on.. you can do better than this. Dan the service guy, and the Location are the only Pro's Dont rent here if you have other options. But if your never home, maybe a good fit. read more

Been a tenant at this location in a 2bed/2bath since early 2015. Maplewood is centrally located in Mountain View with great access to three freeways (101, 280 and 85) in the Bay Area, and major streets (El Camino Real and Central Expressway). The 10-15 minute walk to Castro St allows the tenant to take advantage of downtown Castro and it's many offerings. Quintessential stores within a 5 mile radius are Whole Foods, Safeway, Trader Joes, Walmart, Target and the local market, Milk Pail. All easily accessible via bicycle. Location = A+ Dan is truly "THE MAN". The multiple service requests (basic plumming, water pressure, broken stove tops) I've place were fulfilled within the week. The grounds are kept impeccably clean by Alfanso (sp?) on a weekly basis. The pool has stayed a consistent clear blue. The shrubbery is vibrant and healthy. It's easy to see when entering through the gates that Dan and Alfanso truly take pride in their work. Maintenance & Appearance = A+ Extra fees for heating, trash disposal, etc are passed on to the tenants on a monthly basis in addition to the individuals PG&E bill. The monthly trash fees are exorbitant as three dumpsters in the parking lot make up the communities' garbage dump. Extra fees = B - Since Anna has left communications from new management is impeccably slow regarding requests/inquires, yet, it's incredibly prompt when dealing with rent payment. This is not an apartment complex that hosts events, or takes the time to understand it's tenants. Management since 2016 = C Noise levels within the complex varies upon location - If pointing out towards the California street: noise level is loud (frequently used street, church across the street, bus stop). *Able to hear when CalTrain blows horn passing through to Mountain View stop. If pointing out towards the elementary school next door: noise is fair during school hours and minimal during after-school hours. Noise level = Varies read more

My wife and I lived here for 15 months while I went back to school. This may be a long review but here's the bottom line: I do not recommend living in this apartment. I'll start with some pros since that is a shorter list. 1) Location. It's very close to downtown Mtn View, San Antonio shopping center, both 101 and 280 freeways. 2) Pet friendly. This is the main reason we chose this place. Most pet friendly places charge ridiculous prices. Not that Maplewood is cheap but if you have pets, you're sorta screwed. Just FYI, they charge $35/pet/month which is about on par with other places. 3) Dan, the maintenance guy is awesome. He works really hard and does his best to fix your problem in an timely fashion. He may be the only reason Maplewood gets one star. Now for the cons: 1) Roaches. When we moved in, our apartment was literally infested with roaches, large and small. We went out in the middle of the night to buy some Raid and killed around 50-60 that first night. Management was good about calling someone quickly but these problems don't just go away overnight. It took about 4-6 weeks and 3 separate treatments to get down to us killing about 2 roaches a day. Eventually we got down to about 2 per week for the remainder of our stay. I should also mention that each time they come to spray, we were required to take all of our stuff out of the kitchen and bathroom cabinets, leave the apt for 4 hours, and wipe everything down afterwards. Not once did management offer to help with the trouble or compensate us. I had to call them up and threaten to sue before they did anything. We were also not the only unit dealing with the problem. I saw pest control treating several other apartments and spoke to several neighbors who also had problems. I even saw cans of Raid on several other patios! 2) Management. As already mentioned, Lyon is a terrible company that cares ZERO about their residents. I tried to remain professional when trying to deal with the bug problem but when Amber (company rep at their main office) started yelling at me, she crossed all lines of professionalism and basic decency and respect. The local property manager, Renee, is better. She's very polite and easy to work with but I feel her hands are often tied by her management. Also, she is sometimes hard to get a hold of even during the posted office hours. 3) Old buildings. This seems minor compared to everything else but there are several problems with the building. A) The building shakes whenever a large car drives by (we lived in the back, facing the school). B) The windows are ancient single pane which do not insulate any heat or sound. C) The water gets shut off about once a month for an hour or so while they make repairs. D) All the outlets (other than the kitchen) are two prong, ungrounded. We rented a two bedroom apartment at Maplewood for 5 months last year. I agree with some of the other reviewers: 1) The properties themselves are ok and given the market reasonably priced even though in need of updating, particularly the windows. 2) The moving in process was seemless and made easy by the property manager Renee. 3) The complex is clean and it was certainly very nice living there while we did. 4) It is a great location. However, the reason the complex is getting only one star from us is the moving out process: you will get ripped off left, right and center!! We gave notice two months in advance as we were moving back to Europe. Renee acknowledged this verbally, but failed to ever respond in writing. (No worries, next time I will insist on a written statement.) We were told we were allowed to break the 6 month lease term early and could save the last month's rent if a someone else was going to rent it in time. When we moved out we were told everything was taken care off, as we were moving out in the beginning of December we still had to pay December's rent as the new people were only moving in on the 21st, but for the remainder we would get reimbursed pro rata with our security deposit. That was it! We moved back to Europe and I didn't hear anything from Lyon Communities or Renee till mid January, which is when I emailed Renee. Again, no reply. I emailed again, no reply. I then phoned towards the end of January only to be told that we had outstanding rent for January but lucky us, they had already deducted the security deposit. We phoned Lyon Communities directly and tried to contact them through various means. No replies. Renee was at no point in touch with us again. Now (October 2013), we find out that a debt collection agency has been trying to get in touch with us, but obviously, as we are no longer in the States, they could not reach us. It is unfathomable to me that in spite of having our email address no direct contact was ever tried to be made! Not only did we loose our deposit, we now also have the burden of an extra months rent and potentially a bad credit rating. If I was prepared to face the hassle, I would pursue them legally as I think this is theft, but a lawsuit from Europe just does not seem worth it! AVOID this place at all costs or make sure you push them to put things clearly in writing! They WILL try to screw you when you move out and any friendliness is extremely false! Unfortunately, even though we had a very happy time while living there, this leaves a very bad taste! read more

Sorry but this place sucks! Just like everyone wrote. THEY RIP YOU OFF when you move out! Mysterious charges for painting after 2 years of living there??? Suddenly your water/sewage bill is $35 more than usual??? Late fee even though you pay on time. Charges for 'services' No matter how much you clean they charge you anyway so don't bother! Every time cars drive by living on the 1st floor sounds like you're having an earthquake due to their underground parking. Refrigerator that never works right. Cheap caulking that lasts months then peals and turns black. Filthy floors where kids are always dropping food, cokes, sticky drinks you have to walk thru to get in. Oh and they raise the rent on you every lease renewal. Too much rent for too little! read more

This is my first review on Yelp and the reason I'm writing this is because I feel Maplewood apartments deserves a better rating than two stars. I moved here in March, and my overall experience has been positive. The positives: Renee, the property manager, who is very professional, helpful and friendly is an amazing lady. - the property itself, although old, is well maintained and clean. Negatives: - I really haven't had any negative experiences. The social makeup of this place is mixed, and there are blue-collar residents as well as your typical high-tech professionals. Overall I recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy the amenities of downtown mountain view and yet doesn't want to pay crazy prices for rent. Don't pay attention to negative reviews, people are more likely to complain than to write something positive... This place is awesome :) read more

The swimming pool is about the nicest thing in this community. The resident manager does wonderful presentations to rent out the apartments, but after you move in, they seldom take care of the issues, such as: broken stuff in the apt and parking problems. In fact, they just keep saying that they will do something but you have to go knock on their door everyday for weeks before they take a look at it. All the apartments in maplewood have single-pane window so no matter which way your room is facing, it's going to be very noisy. (Guaranteed) When trucks and large vehicles drive past the unit, it shakes like earthquake. read more

Maplewood apartments have spacious, relatively clean units that are OK for roommates, couples or small families. The amenities are decently priced for the market but the management is extremely poor. When we first went to view the apartments, the manager wrote our conditions of the lease and caps on utilities that would not be exceeded. The manager went on maternity leave and the new manager Carlos did not uphold the cap. Carlos has never once in 12 months returned a phone call or email and often has to be nagged to send out maintenance. Also, he does not let tenants know when packages arrive (one of our deliveries stayed 6 weeks before we realized he had it). Decent living, rent is a little high and management is AWFUL. If possible, other renting options are better. read more

Maplewood is a pleasant, peaceful community to live in, with a nice pool and bbq area, lots of flowering trees and shrubs and a great location in a wonderful city. I've lived here for over 2 years and seen the upgrades that Lyon has done here to improve the property. The building exteriors have been repainted and corridor carpets replaced for an updated look. The Property Manager Renee is very helpful and attentive. She truly cares about the residents and puts her heart into keeping the property clean, leased and maintained. The Maintenance Manager Dan actually lives on site so he is nearly always available. He does an excellent job of keeping up with all the resident requests as well as turning over new units and supervising contractors. He is very helpful and capable, always with a smile. His assistant is also kind and courteous. The personnel are 5 star. Now, here are a few minor negatives: sewer, trash & water fees are charged separately and amount to over $100/mo in addition to rent, so figure that into your overall apartment cost. The property is gated, a hassle with gate keys, but nice if you have small children. The area seems quite safe. The units are basic but I don't ever hear the neighbors or smell their cooking as mentioned in another review. The single pane windows leak heat and let in noise, especially if your unit faces busy California St. The units could use upgraded cabinets in bath and kitchen. Residents are a nice mix of people, various ages and nationalities, so one can easily find some friends in the 175 unit complex. Residents are quiet but friendly. Rents are going up because the market is improving. I wish they wouldn't raise rents over $100/mo within 6 months, but I understand they are maximizing return for their company. These days if you can do it, you're better off buying a house than renting, as rents keep climbing and house values edge downward. But in the meantime, I recommend Maplewood. read more
