Very friendly staff! The environment is a cute mom and pop shop feel and the menu prices are very cheap. You're paying for quality food with pretty big portions. It's worth every penny. I love this place for breakfast! The girls who work there are so nice and attentive. I like my eggs extra dry and they always cook them perfectly and the pancakes are really good too. Ate here for the first time a few weeks ago. It was during the week and we arrived at opening. It was good food. I had standard eggs and bacon and hash browns. Can't complain. It's a good solid breakfast place. Nothing too fancy and not expensive - good transitional breakfast The menu looks pretty good and has a lot of options I like how it looks a bit aged and like it's been in the neighborhood for a long time. I think it adds character. I think if they had a bit better tasting coffee it make the place more appealing to a younger crowd. The coffee is fine but it's like other chain breakfast places. If they had mimosas or bloody Mary's on the weekends the place would be a destination for a solid hip morning start. I'll definitely be back even without alcohol on the weekends. read more

The restaurant itself is cute with a good ambiance. The menu choices are decent although I would love to see some non-pork sausage options. The service was adequate. I didn't love that two of the addons for the omelet were completely forgotten, we had to ask for a drink refill, and the empty dishes weren't cleared until we were about ready to leave. Little things but they make a difference. Also, there was NO SOAP in the ladies bathroom. Middle of the day on Sunday and the bag was completely empty. That alone was enough to warrant a less than perfect review. It's all in the little things. read more

Really nice addition to Hurst. Cute restaurant with an expansive breakfast menu and light lunch menu. Been three time and each time has been perfect. No problems with service and actually had a few visits with GREAT ecperience. Love the $3.99 weekday breakfast and the banana topped oatmeal pancakes. (Not $4 but generous portion and very filling.) We visited Brrokshire Cafe a few days ago for breakfast. They were pretty busy, we waited for someone to greet us for about 10 minutes. No one seems to see us waiting, so I decided to approach one of the waitress and let her know there was a line forming and no one was there to signed us in. Of course, I was getting irradiated because people were taking in before we were due to the lack of organization with the hostess. The food was okay, it wasn't spectacular, the coffee tasted burnt and weak. My chorizos tacos tasted bland and my side order of strawberries were not fresh. My husband and I like to take our Sunday paper and eat breakfast out. We love to try a place. Brookside Café did not disappoint. Coffee has to be good and this little diner wins brownie points for the size of their mugs! They are AWESOME! We split the Hurst Skillet and Banana Nut French Toast. Both arrived to the table hot. Little place BIG portions...this building has had SEVERAL different businesses come and go and well none of them seem to have the staying power that Brookside may have found. Brought my wife in for lunch, know the saying 1st impressions make the difference well this one does. From the time we entered the door with the "good afternoon welcome to Brookside's" smiling waitress to the daily specials written on blackboard. Everything from good old chicken fried steak, meatloaf, pot roast and simple items as grilled cheese & tomato basil soup. I wanted to go back today (Friday) it's BLT day and sometimes you just grave those good old meals momma maid. I ordered the Patty melt on rye but substituted for sourdough not a rye bread kind of guy. But the patty is NOT some little where is the beef" thing it is full 1/2 lb patty after cooking between 2 pieces of the most delicious buttery bread you have ever tasted. If you going for healthy this is not the sandwich for you but if you want to wipe the butter from you arm after running down from your fingers then by all means go at!! I will say the patty could do with a little more seasoning and onions cooked just a little bit longer for that really good carmelization but all in all I enjoyed it. My wife had the meatloaf lunch special that comes with side salad and 2 sides topped with brown gravy. Oh..MY that brown gravy on the meatloaf and mashed taters you take a single bite with both of them mixed and as my daughter will say "now that is a heaven bite" it is so good the richness of the brown gravy and the thickness and not overcooked meatloaf is fabulous. It literally will make you keep eating cause its so dang good. My wife was trying to be good and only eat 1/2 of the portion and was going to take remainder home for lunch next day, sorry that did not happen. What she left I scarfed down along with my patty melt needless to say when I got home I wanted nothing more than my recliner and blanket. This place is so awesome so convenient and just oozes home cooking from every wall. read more

Sad to say that after a few good experiences here that today was awful at Brookside cafe. Arrived at 7:45AM, was told by one of the waitresses/hostess to have a seat when we walked in, so we took a booth in the back. There was a party in the booth beside us and one at the table beside us. Other than that, only a couple other tables were filled. There seemed to be 5 or so waitresses, one of which was scurrying around waiting on the two tables near us. The others were cleaning at the counter or standing around. At 7:55, my husband and I decided we would give them another 5 minutes to notice we were there and come by to take our order. At 8AM, we got up to leave and as we did I walked to the counter where ALL the waitresses were standing, and asked for a manager, they told me there was not one. So I told them that we had been sitting there for 15 minutes with no one coming by with a hello, a menu, to take a drink order, nothing. They didn't say sorry, offer to get our order nada, just looked at me. So we walked out. Ridiculous service. A customer should not have to work to get the attention of wait staff that is standing around. No sense in that. It's not as if we snuck in, the hostess told us to sit wherever we'd like, so she knew we came in. After this experience, the food is not good enough to make me go back to service this bad. read more

The staff is always smiling. The food is always great. We've not had any problems. This last visit the wife had Oreo cookie pancakes and I had a chicken fried steak and eggs. We both had coffee because that early who doesn't. The child had eggs and toast, which she enjoyed as far as we know. She's 1 so not much real opinion going there. read more

I had the Hurst Skillet, which actually came nicely presented in a skillet, and ate all mine, too. Had a late breakfast there this morning. Glad a local place us open on Sundays after church for breakfast other than a chain. It was full but not crowded so we were seated quickly. Servers were attentive enough. Daughter had Chicken n Waffles and I had Brookside Sampler -2 ea eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, hash browns & buttermilk pc. Food was good, didn't really care for sausage links but lived the honey mustard that came with CnW dish. Seemed reasonably priced under $10 ea meal. Would eat here again. read more

Expected less....got more. The food here was better than most breakfast in the area. Liked that it seemed like a quiet and neighborhood eatery, without a huge crowd. Great staff! Long wait times. Not so good food. I would not return because of the good. The pancakes tasted like bisquick, syrup was bland and the eggs looked and tasted like powdered hospital eggs. We've gone 3 times. The pancakes are big and fluffy and taste good, but usually the food comes out cold - scrambled eggs, hash browns, etc. The omelet was dry. You have to order fried eggs to get hot ones. Tried a lunch item once - the chicken fried steak was not frozen, you could tell it had been made there, but was bland. The mashed potatoes seemed home made, but no flavor. The other veggies were horrible. The green beans looked like they had just been dumped out of a frozen bag and thawed. No flavor at all, and did not look like they'd been cooked, period. Their fried eggs are good. The pancakes are good. That's about it, however. The first time we went was the best. Subsequent visits all went downhill from there. Service is slow as well, whether they are busy or not. read more
