They gave me and my dad phenomenal service. They were very attentive, pleasant and made sure we were satisfied at every whim..The food was good and Emrit drinks were delicious! Shade kept our table nice and clean.. The only con was messy bathroom and low tables and seats ... Couldn't enjoy the beautiful view while dining because the window was closed and the seats are low. Went here for my Birthday as well and it was really good vibes. They served A LOT of food and we all got full so easily. We ordered PEI mussels, cocktail shrimp and calamari for starters. That was so so good. Then I got the shrimp basket with the mac and cheese. It was A LOT. I should've shared the Mac and cheese with my friend but we did that thing where we let our stomachs talk. But it made for amazing leftovers the next day. Their drinks were really good, I had the frozen piña colada and watermelon margarita. Very appropriate for summer. It's a huge place that takes in huge parties. I don't think you can reserve seats, I believe it's first come first serve. And they were very accommodating to me and my party. We had such a great experience! Brooklyn Crab had such an awesome vibe! I don't even know where to start!!! So I'll give you a mini-tour! As soon as you walk up to the spot there is a bar to the right and to the left an area to sit, eat, drink, and play games! In the backyard is Mini Golf, a HUGE seating area, and another bar!! On the second floor they have another bar, and an awesome view outdoor seating area looking out into Brooklyn (which is where we sat =) And on the Third floor they have an indoor seating area with that same awesome view into brooklyn from a higher point. The entire place was just so chill and social, the staff was super friendly and helpful, they gave off a very family vibe. The FOOD and the DRINKS OMG!!! SOOOOOO good!! For atmosphere on a warm, sunny day, they get five stars. The only reason you'd come here over nearby, better restaurants is to sit upstairs and look out on the water with a few cocktails. The three story set up can't be beat on warmer days. I knew the food was just ok so I ordered the oysters. They were having a $1 special, so well worth it. The pricey watermelon cocktail was sort of watery and not memorable. (Stick to cheaper beer here. No special bartenders) Also ordered the crab roll which was just ok. Ordered Steve's key lime pie because he was closed that day and we had taken the ferry over for a pie and the winery next door. I had been looking forward to taking a short day trip to Red Hook to try the seafood and drinks at Brooklyn Crab. While the trip to Red Hook from Manhattan on the water taxi didn't disappoint, unfortunately Brooklyn Crab did. The place was packed on a Saturday afternoon, and I honestly am not sure why. Removed from the water, the restaurant is off a dirty street and doesn't enjoy any views of the beautiful waterfront (in my opinion Red Hook's main draw). The front has a few bocce courts, but they are overcrowded with people. In back there is mini golf, but it seems mainly targeted at children (so maybe good if you have kids). On the roof is the restaurant area, but if you want to eat be prepared to wait at least 45 minutes to an hour. We were not prepared to wait that long and decided to leave after drinks. But the food did not look so appealing and the prices are shockingly high ($42 for a lobster). Definitely not worth a trip to Red Hook, and if you are in the area there seem to be a lot better options within walking distance for better prices and with shorter waits. read more

My mother-in-law has an expression for places like this: "The food's free, you're paying for the view." Well, yes and no. Brooklyn Crab is done up in high style, like some insane fever dream of a Maryland shore crab shack -- albeit one with mini golf in the back. Happily, the wait wasn't long on this Sunday night, though the place was packed -- they took my cell number when we got there, told us it'd be 30 minutes max, and it wound up being closer to 10. Seated upstairs, my friend and I ordered the PEI mussels to start along with bowls of New England clam chowder. The latter was tasty and filling, not too thin, but not too thick either, with just enough clams and potatoes. The mussels were fine -- not as fat and juicy as I'd hoped, but the broth under them was buttery and delicious, and made me wish we'd been given a more generous helping of bread. Our main course was a pair of crab rolls, and while my dining companion had few qualms, I found my roll to be a bit on the dry side. I don't like a ton of mayo on my seafood rolls, but I do expect some salady moistness, and this didn't cut the mustard. Bay seasoning, sure, plenty of that, but neither the crab nor the roll were compelling. All told, our meal (with beers) came to around $90. Not cheap, not unexpected. Service was fine if not particularly attentive. But then, you're not really paying for the service, or the food either. Brooklyn Crab overlooks Fairway and its voluminous parking lot, with glimpses of the water beyond. Which is probably just as well. If the place was any closer to the water, I reckon they'd jack the prices up even further. And, expectations raised, I'd likely be giving Brooklyn Crab one less star. read more

Came her during happy day ( monday & tuesday ) which means the oysters are $1. My boyfriend likes their oysters more then mermaid inn. I honestly didnt know the difference. i ordered a seasonal limeade ( watermelon limeade) im not a huge fan of watermelon, therefore i didnt like it too much, but if you like watermelon go for it. i just love lemonade / limeade so i thought i would give it a try, you dont really taste the watermelon until the end. i ordered the fish & chips. i was a little sad how it only comes with two fish and like A LOT of fries. although i liked their fries and fish i wish it came with three fish. i didnt really like their traditional snow crab, it taste kinda bland especially the corn .. i gave it to my boyfriend to eat. the corn didnt have the sweetness that it normally has. i shoulda ordered the garlic butter snow crab. if you looking at a nice view i recommend sitting on the top floor (the roof) if you come around 6-7pm you can see the sunset & its such a beautiful view. i would basically come back just for their oysters and hopefully next time i go they have a different flavor of lemonade/limeade read more

This could be a great restaurant if they cared about the experience of their customers. I used to love coming here before the pandemic for the exceptional food, and could always get a seat upstairs in the dining room, with or without friends, where the atmosphere is magical--you look over the rooftops of Brooklyn in one direction and to the Statue of Liberty in the distance in the other. This July on my birthday I decided to treat myself, made a reservation, and made the complicated field trip from Manhattan to Redhook. Asked the host to be seated in the dining room, and was told that I could go up to look at it, but not be seated there--that there was not enough business to open it. Meanwhile, the bottom floors, without the views, were packed full--no lack of business--and uncomfortably noisy. Was told I had one choice, to sit at a high table, on a stool, with the baking July sun directly on me. I asked to speak to the manager, not to complain, but to suggest that for customers making the effort to travel from Manhattan, the dining room is a big attraction and they should consider leaving it open. They said no--he's too busy to talk. One last trip and attempt yesterday. Went online to make a reservation--a new policy is apparently that they no longer allow reservations for one person. So I called and asked what the chances are if I came as a walk-in into the dining room, and was encouraged to do so. So again, made the sojourn, arrived at 5:30 before the rush, and another bored, indifferent host said, no, I can sit in the bar on a stool, but no admission to the dining room because they expected it to become busy that night. So my takeaway is that it's no longer possible to plan on a good experience here, because, so far as your value as a customer, you're nothing more than a financial calculation, and their calculations are strictly short-term. The manager came over and said we weren't allowed to do that and they needed the table. It was incredibly rude. We had just ordered our food so it wasn't like we were sticking around past our time. We were on their schedule. Another manager huffed and puffed over us as soon as a few people were done with their food. It sucked to be treated this way. We spent a TON of money. This is not the way to treat customers. The food itself was good but not great. I thought it was a little pricey compared to other notable, laid back seafood places in Brooklyn. This has got to be one of my favorite places to eat, but sadly, they won't take my 14-16 person reservation for my Birthday. :( :( :( :( :( So, I figured I would take my chances and arrive an hour early to get a couple of tables put together. Sadly, these people will not even put you on a list when you get there, and you are telling them that on this rainy, cool summer evening, that they will not accommodate you in any way, even when you are bringing 14 people. They would not even set up the tables until EVERYONE had arrived. They would not take orders until EVERYONE had arrived. It's just effing weird. Are they in NYC or on Mars? WTF is going on with that? This is very poor management. I did have a good time after all the annoying coordination finally was over, and my guests were miffed. I must say that our server, Chris, was excellent, always positive and always trying to get everything just right. You'll be happy if you get him as a server!! The mussels which I raved about in my previous review are not the same anymore, it was more of a weird brown garlicky sauce. The chef has definitely changed. The potatoes came whole (not in wedges). My friends and I made it to Brooklyn Crab after running a 5K at the Red Hook Track. We didn't do any research on food prior so we were lucky to run into the restaurant. There were other restaurants in the neighborhood but this was the only place where there were enough seatings for all of us (we were a group of around ten people). I got the blue crab roll and it was quite delicious! It is very similar to lobster rolls except it's crab meat. My friends were eating snow crab rolls and they looked yummy as well. I thought about getting the frozen margarita like my friends did, but I don't do well with alcohol when I'm dehydrated after I race, so I didn't get one. But that also looked good, so if you have an ok tolerance with alcohol, I say go for it. The outdoor seating area is huge and restaurant's got a great summer vibe. It gets super busy around the brunch hour on weekends (we saw people waiting to enter by the time we left) and sometimes it's hard to get the attention of the waiters. read more

The atmosphere is super quirky and fun. It's like a double decker overlooking the harbor. The decor is somewhat kitschy but not in a bad way. Spoiler alert: don't come for the food. Maybe come for trivia night and beer. Drinks get 3 stars. The blood orange margarita is uncomfortably sweet and lacking the spice it was described to have. I'd stick to the craft beers here. Food is maybe 3-4 stars. I got a shrimp basket that was similar to something I could've gotten at a fast food seafood restaurant and it was over $20... at least the fries were good ? I was hoping to support one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn during the pandemic since I believe it's so important. Two weeks ago I stopped by for a table, and the front of the house hostess was not very pleasant. It was busy anyway so we decided to pass and return. Tonight we returned and very nicely and politely asked how long the wait was for an upstairs table by the edge. We were told an hour (totally fine), but then we were given such an attitude by the hostess, who couldn't act more impatient (meanwhile there was no line). I'm sad because I loved this restaurant but they seem to be taking their patrons for granted, which is odd during this time. Hope the can get their front of their staff in order because it's probably going to cost them business. Sad to say but I probably won't be coming back for a while :-( read more

We sat down after 30 mins and without any signs or anything. After we ordered, they told us that we have to order full dinner options so they moved us to another section. Keep in mind there were other groups ordering less than us. We ordered oysters (which actually is more than the crab options) but I guess $33 over $25 is tough math. We added calamari, shrimp and fish and chips and 3 beers 1 lemonade (obviously none of the oysters and beer for the wifey). Kept a menu to order more. They didn't really warn us beforehand and afterwards probably wasn't considerate at all. We went upstairs (also my wife is pregnant) and made her walk up and down the stairs without consideration. I've could have just walked downstairs myself. I haven't had rude service like this in awhile and better communication would be well advised. Food is ok for a place of this kind. What really bothers me is the unnecessary waste of plastic. Is it really necessary to put the mayo-type sauce that comes with fish and chips into a plastic container? Why not simply on the plate? Just so you can save a few seconds of a worker's time by pre-filling them and then letting them sit in a fridge? So you a few minutes through the course of the day, but you trash the planet with plastic. Per menu, fish and chips come with coleslaw. Who would have thought it is again packaged in a silly miniature container containing maybe one tablespoon of it? Ridiculous. Similar story with the oysters. They were good, but not only were they served again with 2 plastic containers, but also with a miniature tabasco bottle, which makes this order particularly wasteful and expensive too. I would rather spend a few extra dollars and wait an extra 10 seconds for my food (maybe even 15!), and know that I am not contributing to trashing the planet while fiancing this horrible mindless waste by eating my food there. We came here with my family for dinner. Food was pricy, but enjoyed. Ordered macaroni cheese with bacon and fish sandwiches for sides, we barely touched them cause we were full with all the crabs and lobsters, so asked to packed them to go. But they misunderstood and threw them away. We asked to take them off from the bill, but the manager decided to remake them for to go. What we got is a half the sandwich without chips and pickles, and mac&cheese without bacon. We only had a bite on the sandwich in the first place, and it was their mistake to toss those food away. Well, Brooklyn Crab has one thing going for it - a great location in the Red Hook area. sadly when we were there on a Saturday lunchtime, that was the only good thing I could say. Drinks - ok, not bad. Food selection - a lot of crab dishes, but I suppose that's ok, given the name. Four of us were there, I ordered fish & chips, my daughter soft shell crab sandwich - not sure about the others. So here's the problem, the soft shell crab sandwich arrived sometime after we'd ordered, then our server disappeared for 40 minutes or more. About 20 minutes into this torturous wait, we asked another staff member if he could help us or maybe track down the missing in action server and he told us it wasn't his problem WTF? Eventually, the missing waiter and food did arrive - the original meal was obviously long finished by then. At some point, someone claiming to be a manager strolled by, shrugged and said sorry (sort of). I certainly won't be back there again anytime soon. read more

Brooklyn Crab has a great atmosphere, but unfortunately, their food is over-priced for the tiny portions. For example, a very small crab salad sandwich is over $20 and comes with a bag of potato chips (not even a house-made side). Mine was supposed to come with old bay seasoning and there was none. To be fair, none of the food was bad, but it was not worth the price and I would not go back. Additionally, we went when it was raining, and their outdoor tented patio completely flooded, to the extent that people could not put their feet on the floor because it was covered with inches of water. My friend decided to throw a surprise 40th birthday party. She was super excited to do it here, because she knows her girlfriend loves this restaurant. Despite all of her planning from August, for a party in November....everything that could have went wrong, went wrong as far as food, service etc. They designated a spot in the back of the restaurant at the rooftop, which was not big enough for the amount of people she confirmed but we tried our best to make it work. Several people from our party were off on opposite ends, which wasn't really fun or fair to them. It was an open bar, but they rarely came around to take our drink orders and when they did it took a ridiculous amount of time until the drinks actually appeared. The food came out at all different times, often times the servers would forget the tables off to the side so we sound ourselves sharing our platters with other tables. At one point they came out with a tray of chicken fingers and thank God my mother broke it in half before eating, because the chicken was RAW. Had we eaten them without seeing that, the entire party would have been severely ill. They brought all of the chicken back and reserved it later where it was so overcooked and hard it was inedible, which was a shame because I didn't eat a lot of the raw options that were provided and I really wanted to enjoy the chicken. The service was horrible, I often saw my friend and a few of her friends cleaning up tables, reminding them what they were supposed to have out etc. At one point a few of us ventured downstairs to go to the rest room. The bathroom is small, only has 2 stalls; both were taken by Brooklyn Crab employees, who were clearly using the bathroom break as a way to text or check social media. I have worked in restaurants, my daughter has as well...so I get the need sometimes to take a break, but when you only have 2 stalls and 3 people waiting, you figure out another place to text. One of the girls came out, washed her hands the other hair net wearing girl did not....gross!!!! In addition, the place was freezing. A rooftop in November needs to be heated, or all of the windows need to be insulated- something to prevent it from being so drafty. Finally the cakes come out and she was cutting the cake, bringing it from table to table. We had to wait for forks. the coffee was served warm- not hot. To add insult to injury, after we sang happy birthday and were eating cake another party also on the rooftop started to sing happy birthday to their friend and I don't know if they were a choir, but they sang a rendition f happy birthday that lasted 10 minutes (they sounded good, but considering the night we were experiencing it seemed slightly obnoxious). If you are planning a party or a special event, I would NOT recommend this place at all. If you are looking to grab a beer and maybe have some food during the summer I would say go for it...but do not order the chicken and make sure your food has been cooked thoroughly. read more
