Super glad Bronzed Aussie is now a part of the DTLA scene. I moved from Britain when I was a kid, and when I heard about B.A. I thought of one thing - PASTRY!!! Yep, say that in a Victor Meldrew voice (props if you know!!!). It's all about the bloody pastry and here Bronzed Aussie does not disappoint! I came in, ordered 4 sausage rolls. Took them home. Amazing meat pies ... 5 stars It was a bit of a trek as I walked along 7th Street from Figueroa, and I kept think that it better be worth it, since I was going to walk back to the metro. I wasn't very hungry, but I knew I needed some food later. There was a window counter with all the available mea pies, and I wondered how long it would take to prepare. Luckily there was a refrigerated section with meat pies ready to go. My choices: 2 thai chicken, pepper steak, seafood, chunky beef, chicken and bacon. The attendant was very friendly, giving me directions on how to heat: 350 degrees at 45 minutes. Upon getting home, I put the thai chicken and pepper steak in the oven, and the rest in the freezer. 35 minutes later I popped them out and had a good time. Delicious! Definitely will be back. If you're a foodie, you must make a stop here. Bronzed Aussie makes pretty great oven-fresh meat pies, along with awesome customer service. The lady who started this place is super inspirational and friendly. I want to be friends with her. Which I will make happen. I got the chunky beef pie, and my friend got the lamb pie and coffee. They were both delicious. I added ketchup and hot sauce to mine, but it's not necessary. I do wish the pies were bigger, given the price point. They sure do have some delicious meat pies. Having this place bookmarked for some time, I decided to finally go after I saw that it made the top 100 places to eat on Yelp for 2015. I was not disappointed. This place is kind of like a hole in the wall. It's fairly difficult to find. You have to park on the street and then walk into this alleyway where there are shops. There you'll find this place. It's a small place, but kind of has a mom and pop shop kind of feel to it. Ordered their ground beef pie, which was pretty darn good for a beef pie. I topped it off with ketchup and it was just the perfect balance of flavor. The beef wasn't dry, but dare I say it...moist and their crust is extremely buttery and flaky. Just the way a crust should be really. Also ordered their sausage roll, which in my opinion, was a little on the dry side. My plus one said it was his favorite so to each their own. Do not overestimate these pies. We thought that the pies looked rather small and so we ordered 3 and a sausage roll. I was stuffed after eating my beef pie. I was struggling with the sausage roll and ended up taking that to go. It was an experience as I've never had a meat pie before so if you haven't had one yet, go now. My co-workers have been telling me about this place with these amazing meat pies, so I was super excited when we made our way down there today. The pie crust is super flaky and tasty. I've just become a big fan. I ordered the ground beef and lamb pies, they're made fresh every day and ready almost immediately after ordering. I liked the ground beef one much better, the gravy inside was moist and meaty, not dried and clumpy like other British pies I'd eaten before. Also, there was a slight curry taste to it. The lamb was more like a stew. It was good but I'd probably order something else next time. The ground beef I'd definitely get again. One pie is actually big enough for a nice lunch. Two if you're really hungry. It's small inside, they do have a community table that seats about 4 and a table around the window. However, there are plenty of seats outside and around the corner outside as well for larger groups. It's more like a cafe setup, they also serve coffee drinks and tea. Perfect for what it is! A small stop for some savory (and sweet) pies, and some other goodies from down under. Dropped in when I got a reminder to use my soon to expire amazon local deal. I purchased a spinach feta pie, custard pie, and frozen tofu curry and ratatouille pies for later. The crust was perfection, and there was the perfect balance of spinach with cheese. Reminded me of a spanikopita. It seems every culture has some form of empanada, and this version is delicious. Custard pie was also light and sweet without being too rich. I will update after trying the frozen pies. Directions are to heat at 325 degrees for 45 minutes, stick in a fork to test for doneness, and add a few minutes as needed. Finally checked this place off my list! Only because parking is impossible and frustrating in this area. Ended paying $7 for all day which pays for itself after 2 hours since metered parking is $4. There's also a shady $5 garage. What makes the Bronzed Aussie delightful is the owner/chef. She greeted us with great pleasure while pull out fresh pies. She made recommendations and provided great service. She explained that you put ketchup on top of the beef pie and eat it with your hands. It was delightful! I have had this bookmarked for months now - and I was lucky enough to be treated by my Zoos today (3pm on a Wednesday). He had the chunky steak pie while Addie and I enjoyed a pepper steak pie each. May the good Lord have mercy on me for being so gluttonous & indulging myself in such sinful amazing pie's. After attending an Australian travel & tourism event. I ended up having some amazing Aussie foods there & was craving those authentic Aussie mince meat pie I had at the event including the desserts. The Custard pie had tons of fresh nutmeg on top & was not curdled. Was smooth & creamy as it should be. The famous Australian dessert cakes "Lamingtons" were very well made too. Spongy & soft with creamy chocolate on the outside & dusted with shredded coconut. Not too sweet perfect with their amazing selection of unique tea's they offer. My sister and I used a Groupon to pick up pies to go. The storefront is located in downtown LA and was a little tricky to find. We got lucky with a street parking and were able to walk right over. We bought a couple fresh ones and some frozen ones. The lovely lady at the cashier was friendly, patient and helpful. I think maybe the owner was also there and she was very nice, too. Overall, I felt the pies were oily/greasy. And both my sister and I had stomach aches after eating them (she had the minced beef and I had an egg/veggie one). We both thought they were tasty but in the greasy, guilty way. And when the stomach aches kicked in, we realized they were a no-go. I still have two in my freezer and I am scared to eat them because I don't want to get the tummy bubblies again. Maybe the frozen ones were left out prior to being frozen or something. I went here last Thursday. I went out of my way to taste these pies and it was well worth it. At first I couldn't find the address because its in a small alley. A clean alley where there are other establishments. I tried the Flat White coffee which was great, and the chicken, bacon and mushroom pie. Also, I had a piece of the apple pie. It is all about the crust as an early-bird patron advised me about. Yeah, just like pizza pie. The place is clean and the owner adds a great joyful spirit. After getting donuts from the Nickel Diner - we walked about 4-5 blocks or so to get a cup of good joe - but ending up trying more than we were planning to. This place is hidden away in an alley - honestly if it wasn't for my brother, we wouldn't even know that this place existed. It's literally in the alley - a clean one - which also has a pizza hut and two other stores and plenty of people walk by as we sat there. This place is pretty small - only a counter that fits about 6-7 and one table and two chairs. There was only one lady working and I'm guessing she was the owner too - she was really nice - suggested we try one of their popular pies and so we did - we shared a Ground Beef Pie and each ordered a coffee drink - I had the iced espresso which later turned into an iced latte because of the milk and sugar I put in - but it was good. The Ground Beef Pie was delicious - I love the sauce they used - it was a very simple ground beef pie with nothing but beef and the pie crust but it was very tasty - it's like a chicken pot pie but with less ingredients. They have different types and if I come back I would definitely try the other pies and probably take home some too. I really recommend trying one of their savory pies but their sweet pies also looks really good too - if we didn't fill up on sandwiches and donuts from the first two stops - we would have tried it. The coffee is pretty good - not watered down or too bitter. Overall great little Australian Coffee shop! This review is way overdue-- This place is a little hidden gem in DTLA. Located in a little alley between shops, apartments, eateries and other tall buildings. You would never see it unless you were looking for it. My husband and I were running late (as usual) to a show and we needed something quick and nearby to tide us over until after the show. Parking was very tricky. No lot so you need to look for metered parking on the street, not easy on a weekend in DTLA so we walked a couple blocks. No biggie. When we got to the shop it was closed! So early on the weekend!? If you're coming here be sure to check the hours. Fortunately for us the owner was still there with a couple of her employees (and son?). What a NICE staff! She unlocked the door, welcomed us in and did NOT make us feel bad or guilty. She told us what she had left and let us take our time ordering. No rushing at all. Are all Aussies this nice??! They even went the extra, extra mile and explained how the pies are meant to be eaten (no untencils, with ketchup!) and even showed us a YouTube video that one of the guys made to show America exactly how to eat an Aussie pie :) We ordered the Original and the Chicken with Bacon and Mushroom and a couple of sodas. Lamingtons for dessert. The pies were delicious and satisfying. Flakey crust, fillings were creamy and delicious. Lamingtons a tad dry but had never had one before so maybe they're meant to be. The food here is excellent! Don't let the size of the meat pies and sausage rolls fool you, this food is rich and fills you up quick! I ordered way too much for our group, but thats ok because it was delicious. We got sausage roll (must try), ground beef meat pie (gotta try this as well), chicken mushroom and bacon pie (pretty good), a sausage and bacon brekkie (this is like a breakfast quiche......starts off a bit plain but the flavor kinda grows on ya). My suggestion here is to grab a bunch of different items and share it, so you can try more items! This is a comfortable safe place in an alley off the busy Los Angeles street in the busy local core LA area. Highly recommend for real handmade Australian food in LA. Would be 5 stars if parking was more convenient, which is hard to find on the street or on rooftop Merchandise Mart parking a block away. Reasonably priced. read more

Stopped by here with my coworker because I never have been to a Australian pie shop. Literally a hidden gem! The café seems very nice and cozy. The service there is very friendly and comfortable. I believe the server and the owner are Australian, which makes it feel authentic. I ordered the chicken Thai Curry pie, the fish and chips, and a house salad with avocado. I love the crust of the pie, it was really flaky and crispy outside. It really holds the filling well. The filling is smooth and holds well together. The salad had an option of dressing which is cool because I can dip the salad into the dressing; I don't like my salad drenched in dressing. my coworker ordered the chunky beef pie, he enjoyed it ever so much. We really wanted more! The fish and chips were crispy out side and moist inside not oily tasting. The have bottle of malt vinegar and hot sauces to use. They had us sample there mash potatoes with gravy. It was good!. Not sure it was required with the pie though. We tried several desserts with coffee. The lamington, which is a poundcake covered in chocolate and coconut flakes and ANZAC cookie, has oats and stuff and nice and chewy!. we also sampled there caramel chocolate bar. All and all their food there Deliciousand comforting I highly recommend to eat their pie then I do not know anywhere else that sells only a Australian pie . read more

Very nice Australian lady that works here! Besides the sucky/limited paring around the area, we managed to find a spot and depending on how far/how fast you eat, I'd say you only need to pay for 45 minutes (which is what we did). The actual ambience of the place is really rustic, and seems like a really home-y spot to try some australian meat pies! I personally wanted to try this based on a suggestion on yelp and I'm glad that I did. The pie itself, like all the other reviews have said, is VERY flaky and crusty and buttery, but the filling I wasn't too impressed. The inside just reminded me of a sweet sauce with ground beef, kinda like that filipino spaghetti sauce. It was GOOD but I just didnt find anything special with it. Felt like I was eating a croissant and a filling that was very monotone. The lady made the place x100 inviting as she greeted us right away and told us how to eat the pie recommending that australian's "eat it with ketchup and with their hands... but no pressure" hahah very sweet. I havent been to Australia, so I'm not sure how this place compares to actual australian pies, but I just get a feeling that this place is legit :) So if you're dying to explore the Australian cuisine through their meat pies then come here and try it and you can judge it for yourself :) read more

Blink and you'll miss it. If you do miss it then you'll be losing out on an amazing meat pie and fish & chips experience. On the faithful day I did wander down an obscure alley in the garment district I came across the land of savory pie goodness. I was hungry so I decided to try it. Turned out to be better than any Australian pies I had in many pie shops in Australia and New Zealand. The meat in the chicken pie was tender, the gravy was flavorful without being too salty, and the crust was golden/flakey. The gravy, meat, veggie, and crust ratio was perfect. The fish and chips were all hand cut and dipped in the store. The batter shell of the fish was surprisingly light and airy yet dense enough for a satisfying crunch. The batter was also perfectly seasoned without being too salty or spicy hot. The chips were wonderful. The potatoes were cut steak style and so perfectly seasoned that no dipping sauces were needed to 'help it out'. The whole experience was an unexpected treasure. If the parking wasn't so difficult I would come here more often. read more

I rarely eat so much that I get stuffed. And that is exactly what I did. I had the lamb pie and my friend had the beef pie. Both delicious. Apparently in Australia, you take the ketchup bottle, poke a hole in the pie, and squeeze. So good. The pie has a very flaky crust; soft at the bottom and juicy meat inside. You eat it with your hands. I also had this chocolate cake which was amazing. The cappucino was rich, frothy and delicious. Margaret, an authentic australian, had this to say, "These pies are the real deal." Apparently, they make Australians nostaligic about the first food they ate away from home; other Auzzies only eat these pies when at football games. It is an absolute hole in the wall in an alley way, but a true gem. read more
