This seems to be a new restaurant inside the Shashi Hotel. 4 star seems a bit over rated based on our experience but 3 star is also unfair. So here's what we like and not like: Like: 1. Parking is hassle free and it's inside a garage 2. Ambience is nice, not too crowded on Sunday evening. Outdoor seating with heat is available outside of the pool. Indoor seating is comfortable. 3. Menu is interesting and seems to change quite frequently. There are dishes you don't see much, especially vegetarian dishes. The Dorada fish was seared perfectly with skin crispy and meat fresh and soft, not a second degree overdone. The duck came from nice cuts and the pieces were done just right without any overcooking. Some pulled meat mixed with white rice added extra flavor and texture to the dish. 4. The best portion to price ratio are the dessert dishes. The only entrée that we think the size is satisfying to an adult is the burger. 5. Good bus service. We got non-stop water refill, very happy with that. Not like: 1. Because it's a restaurant inside the hotel, the clienteles can vary significantly. We've had a screaming baby at the back of the room the whole time, probably guests from the hotel. 2. The menu is too complicated to understand. For a moment I thought I got an non-English menu. 3. The price may be a tad too high compared to the portions. This place has a really nice atmosphere. The hotel looks modern and trendy, and the bar has many interesting cocktails to offer. A couple odd things - we were seated outside with a bench on one side. The bench was too low for the table, so I felt a bit like a child sitting lower than the people on the other side of the table and having to reach up to the table. The outdoor seating is also right next to the pool which was very much being used by hotel guests, and the rooms looked down at the seating area as well. I really enjoyed the food and drinks. The portions are small compared to standard American restaurants (which usually serve way too much), but I thought the plates were perfectly portioned for me. while it is definitely priced as a "treat" meal, it was a nice place to hang out and enjoy. Dorada - the fish was excellent, really crispy and delicious. The bulgur was also very flavorful with a nice little cucumber salad on top. Burger was very juicy, almost too juicy as the bun got pretty soggy. It comes with mashed potatoes which are very luxurious. Skirt steak - the server warned us that it does not come with any sides, so we were prepared that is was just the skirt steak. I am not sure why they wouldn't include something with it. read more

As a whole the tapas we ordered were good, however each dish seemed to be skewed and not balanced harmoniously. My favorite was probably the chicken croquettes. We went ala carte because what we wanted weren't on the fixed one. Liked: oysters, shishito peppers, duck mousse (a bit interesting with the strawberry jam, but I didn't hate it) Loved: hamachi crudo Could've done without: strip loin, green lentils Presentation is 10/10! It was nice. The location is pretty inside the hotel, but the food was not memorable. I would say that the descriptions on the menus were not very indicative of what was served. We had the oxtail dish with mussels, that should have been described as mussels with small chips of oxtail. Same with the lamb shank and pasta. It was more like tons of flavorless pasta and bits of lamb. I had what I would call an ibérico pork chop. It was delicious but small and no side that was substantial. The food is fantastic, and the service is good, they will be very actively serve you water, drinks and ask what you need, the only thing may be a little bit great is they will not be so active after your bill sent to you, plus the gratuity or service fee is mandatory to be 20%, so you really do not have a choice to have a say. Broma is a great dinner spot whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just want somewhere fun to eat. If you're a picky eater like me, you're bound to find something here. The ambiance is fun, unique and it has cool vibes to it. All staff are very attentive to everyone at the table. They take time to explain things on the menu or answer any question you have. I was surprised upon arrival to find Broma located inside the Shashi Hotel. Going to a hotel specifically to eat at their restaurant is a rather unfamiliar concept to me, especially in the suburbs. It's also near Google and Shoreline Amphitheater (beware of traffic congestion when there are concerts), but there was easy street parking. We were easily able to make a dinner reservation the night before for a party of four. The ambiance was cozy with the long wall fireplace and tasteful Christmas decorations; it's a great date night spot! We got cocktails from the bar called The Emerald Hour, including the G&T, signature old fashioned, and "smarter than your average pear." They were all a bit stronger but in the best way, as the other ingredients balanced the alcohol's bitterness well. Our waiter gave us solid recommendations, of which we ordered the croquetas de pollo e manchego (great crunchy outside with lots of chicken stuffing) and papas arrugadas (the mojo verde sauce was yummy). We also shared the rabbit country paté, oyster rockefeller (comes with 3 oysters so I requested to make it 4), Portuguese sardines (only came with 3 like the oysters, and I hoped the waiter would've told us this beforehand and asked if we wanted 4 as well), Mary's chicken fabada (chicken quarter was a little dry), alentejo pork cheek and clams, and green lentils and root vegetables. Our visit to Broma in Mountain View was an absolute delight! We ordered the croquettes, artichokes and spicy shrimp to start, all of which were delectable. The cocktails (Paloma and their spin on the Gin and Tonic called G&T, were spot on and perfectly refreshing for a warm day). Next up, we had salmon, bass, short ribs and chicken entrees, all of which were a testament to the rich, flavorful culinary traditions of Spain . The short ribs melted effortlessly in the mouth and the chicken was tender and expertly seasoned over a bed of squid ink pasta, showcasing the chefs' prowess with both simple and complex flavors. We finished the night with their delectable basque cheese cake. The flavors of the night were perfect with not a dish too salty or too sweet, enabling our palates to taste all the fine nuance and intention of the chef. I was planning on dining in at a later point; however, the incorrect pricing and 20% auto-gratuity are definitely deterrents. Went here for dinner and it did not disappoint! Made a reservation for 7:00pm and the restaurant was not overly crowded for a Saturday night. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a nice place for dinner out with friends or a date night. The restaurant, which is part of The Shashi Hotel and connected to The Emerald Hour bar, is very modern and dim, with nice artwork all around. Looks like the menu changes often so there will always be something new to try. Croquetas de pollo e manchego (5/5) - great appetizer to start with a crispy bite, flavorful chicken, and hint of spice. The curtido on the bottom is a nice refreshing addition. Chorizo Octopus sausage (4/5) - enjoyed this more than I expected to. The sausage is juicy, flavorful, and not overly salty which made it easy to enjoy. A semi-disappointing return to Broma. The salad was decent. The issue was the lentil and polenta main course this visit, which has been stellar in the past. The presentation looked good. The issue was that the lentils and polenta were barely warm, like they had just been popped in the microwave. Unfortunately, the lentil flavor was completely lacking compared to the previous visit when they were freshly cooked and had that delicious smoked paprika flavor. So, I left there with a "bad taste in my mouth", let down over the drop in flavor quality. Now I will have to consider if I am going back or if this was a fluke. Dining partner had the whole fish, pricey at $55. For what the dinner cost, I can think of a few other places that never disappoint. They add 20% service to the check. read more

Stylish but with overly casual ambiance and service compared to the decidedly first tier pricing, Broma suffers from the current trend of restaurants exploring "how much will diners pay"? The upside of eating in a restaurant intent on breaking the price ceiling is that it will never be overly crowded and you won't feel there's any pressure to turn the table. The downside is that you'll pay 5 star prices for 4 star food and needlessly informal 3 star service (the servers are wonderful but don't deliver "fine dining" service). For 2 appetizers and 2 a la carte entrees (excluding drinks), expect to pay $100 - $130 per person after the automatic 20% service and tax. This oddly makes the $120 tasting menu a potential opportunity for relative pricing arbitrage. Worth it? I won't be returning on my own dime to find out. The food is very good if not revelatory, so if you are price insensitive or on an uncapped expense account and favor casual elegance, it's a good choice. If you value your hard earned money, or expect prices to match the trifecta of ambiance, service, and quality of food, there are plenty of options that will meet those expectations elsewhere. read more

A great place for young skinny Jean hipsters and techies as this place is in the heart of Google land. A little too much in terms of the experience as a whole for me. Interesting venue and location being in the center of a hotel and partially wrapped around that hotel's pool. We were greeted immediately by the friendly and knowledgeable sommelier who walked us to our table. For whatever reason he spotted me as being the wine drinker at the table. I forgot his name but he was quite passionate about their wines and gave the full description with each pour. Our waiter James was very accommodating and fun to talk to. The food was fantastic, we didn't have a bad bite. We did The Broma Experience for a table of four. It supposedly covers about 80% of the menu family style. This seems about right, it was appetizer/charcuterie first followed by a very delicious fish dish and amazing skirt steak along with sides of roasted potatoes in cilantro sauce and a salad with prosciutto. Desert was an assortment of three deserts. Really great meal, everything tasted awesome. Pro tip, opt in for their caviar service. It comes at a good price point and a unique serving method. We had high hopes with friends whom have been there before and some of the reviews. Unfortunately we discovered that they no longer are doing their tasting menu! Now it is more just some appetizers and dinner entre options. We had the Stripped Bass and the Pasta entre along with their most expensive Spanish ham, and the artichoke appetizer. The Spanish ham was over $50 and it came out already sliced and not that high quality. We have been to Spain and were hoping for real Spanish ham sliced at the table with a much more vibrant red and mouthwatering ham but The pasta dish was not that great as there was not much pasta, not enough mushrooms and more of a veggie entre; I would give it a 2.5 out of 5. The Stripped bass was on it's own about a 3 out of 5. The deserts were not that great. The Mexican hot chocolate was a major disappointment. It was a cold desert and worse was that it was not very sweet and tasted graining and not appealing. The interior is nice and inviting. The wait staff does a great job. During dinner we looked it up at Yelp to realize all the stellar reviews were more like a year or so old and they were all referring to the tasting menu. Every month, my gf and I meet my friend and his wife for a double-date. It's become kind of a fun competition to see who picks the better restaurant. This past Saturday, my gf and I picked Broma Restaurant, and honestly I feel bad the other couple have to pick next because it's going to be very hard to top our experience we had here! The ambiance is very cool - comfy and cozy but with a sleek modern touch. It was kind of chilly when we got there but luckily we were seated next to the fireplace which was perfect. There was a lively birthday party happening at the outdoor bar area, but we were seated in the dining area and there wasn't any noise from the party disrupting us. Service is incredible - very helpful staff who have expert knowledge of their dishes and have amazing recommendations based on what your preferences are. They made sure to make note of any allergies and ensured whatever we ordered would have those items removed. The waitstaff's timing was impeccable - they always seemed to show up during a break in our conversation and never interrupted us, and also replaced our plates and utensils after every dish. The food itself is incredible. All of our starters were great but I think the dish that stood out the most was the Steak Tartare - it comes with foie gras butter and caviar served with fried plantain chips to dip. Honestly I could have just ordered 4 plates of this for the night. I can't get enough of it. Broma's options for entrees makes it hard to settle for one option - everything sounds amazing, and if you've seen the photos online, you know the presentation is aesthetically pleasing as well. I've had the Sherry Braised Pork Shank before and it was beautiful, a magnificent work of art in itself - but this time I decided on the 28 Day Dry Aged Ribeye. Ordered it Medium-Rare and it came Medium-Rare. I don't have the most advanced pallete in the world and I'm certainly not a renowned wordsmith, so let me just say that was a certified Damn Good Steak™. I would have finished the whole thing but I like to snack at night so I saved a couple morsels for later. What a dud. Food lackluster at best. I had the hamachi crudo (like a hodge-podge of incompatible flavors, wasn't even presented well); duck (overcooked, also incompatible trimmings); and mousse (accompanied by dried-out, crusty cake). My partner had the shishito peppers (poorly-seasoned) and lentils (meh). He liked the mousse. Ambiance, or lack thereof: the seating was by the hotel pool. Squeals from the water throughout the meal. The so-called prix fixe menu was more expensive ($30 more in my partner's case, just $2 in my case) than ordering an appetizer, entree, and dessert a la carte. The website photos of a serene setting couldn't be further from the truth. The contemporary lines and open seating make for a noisy dining room where shouting replaces conversation. That the menu is limited wouldn't be a problem if the same flavor didn't end up in several dishes: smoked paprika. It was so strong in the scallop dish that we had to ask what the other ingredients were (carrot). Table service was cordial, but difficult to understand. It was as if a script were being recited. It didn't merit the size of the tip that is automatically added to the bill, an egregious practice. We have been here twice! We like to get an assortment and share the dishes. The ambiance is very nice. I love how the seating is. Staff is friendly and wonderful! We really liked the vegetarian entree and the stew. There are lots of flavors going on! We will be baking for sure! read more

Ambiance: The place is very modern and sleek. The entrance to Broma however requires you to walk through the hotel entrance and through a work setting. It wasn't that crowded and we had a lot of space, but to be fair we came on a weekday night. Service: The service is great. Our waitress explained the items on the menu on depth and overall was very kind. Food: We got the olive oil and house bread and the aged mackerel for starters. The olive oil has a nice nutty and fruity taste to it and is very tasty. The house bread was a little disappointing. It was pale, cold and a little tough, and does not tear well. The mackerel is a 9.5/10. It is one of the best mackerels I ever had, hands down. For our entrees, we got the day boat scallops and the sherry braised pork shank with potatoes. The day boat scallops were good, but not mind-blowing good for $40. You only get 3 giant scallops. It is defiantly not enough to make you full. The nduja and carrot spread definitely out shown the scallops. I'd rate the scallops 7.5/10 and the nduja and carrot spread a 9/10. The pork shank is a 7.5/10. The texture is really nice and falls off the bone. The taste, however, is not as intense as expected if it was braised in sherry. It was still delicious. The potatoes were exceptional. Crispy on the outside and very flavorful. We also got a Paloma (tequila, milk wash, grapefruit cocktail) which I think was refreshing and on the lighter end. read more

What an impressive spot!! and they are just starting out: great service, interesting menu. fearless kitchen and a fully stocked anything-you-could-want bar. We ate here when it was the Emerald Hour. Now it's Broma. The restaurant is not very large, so if you are next to a loud group, you lose your quiet romantic setting. We were the loud group....sorry! The cocktails are good/strong, the food is beautifully plated and tasty. Great mix of options. Favorites are the croquettes, fig sandwich, butter lettuce salad (maybe ask to go lighter on the dressing). We didn't have anything we didn't enjoy. The desserts also are all outstanding. Sharing dishes is the way to go. Yes, it's pricey, but right now, everything is. Our waters never hit empty. Service was professional and helpful. In the lobby they host group parties, but it is very separate from the dining area, so we never heard them even though they were quite loud. Options to sit outside with heat lamps. read more
