This place just keeps growing and growing with more and more locations with every turn I take. The atmosphere is the best you'll find in the area, and a great escape from the well known valley heat. The food portions are well worth the price point with fresh servings and hot plates. Make sure to ask for the fresh fruit vs. the frozen if food and taste is important to you. You can't blame them for going cheap on the majority as they are just another business, but for those who know and appreciate flavors and the art of food, they will certainly service you as such. The Imperial Valley is somewhat limited in selection, and we were happy to notice this place. So far we have only had breakfasts, but a lot of times we are headed back home early in the morning. The chicken and waffles have been good as have the eggs benedict. Other traditional breakfast stand bys have been good too. Visiting from LA and found this place via Yelp. Was in the mood for a good omelette and some crepes. They had exactly what I wanted! Ordered the Moms omelette I think it was called (egg white with avocado on top, Brussels sprouts, mushroom) and a single banana Nutella crepe. The omelette was a huge portion for sure. It was so good though. The single crepe was perfect size for one person and to satisfy my chocolate craving. Service was decent, not spectacular, can't complain. A lot of time has passed and an update is definitely in order. Broken Yolk definitely stepped up their game and rose to the challenge of being a new restaurant in the Valley. I go here literally every weekend for breakfast now, and its fantastic. The staff is all friendly and attentive...I don't have everyone's names, but Dallas is usually our server. Even though it's Father's Day, it's quiet, with no one here. Came in at 1:00 (they close at 2:00.) I sat here for ten minutes waiting to see if anyone noticed me (I was rolling solo.) I had a menu in front of me and made eye contact with just about everyone - five girls talking at the register who saw me get seated, three serving the bar and four-ish waiting on tables. I left. I shouldn't have to ask for service. I was a food service worker at one time, and yes, a young one. My living was made from tips. I always overtip, you lost a big one! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! We drove an hour just to eat at Broken Yolk, and it was not worth it at all! We had a party of 20 and they said we had to be seated outside which we did not mind, we waited 20 mins even though they had nobody outside and they wanted to charge us all in one check, she stated that she tried working with us and wanted us to charge us two checks instead of individually, she had no answer when we asked why she was going to charge us in one or two checks we all wanted to pay individually, we did not mind the gratuity and we were all going to tip anyways but she insisted we could only be seated if we paid the whole tab with one check, when we asked again why she shrugged and said sorry that's the only way. This place is awesome, my wife and I stopped in on the way to Yuma on a road trip and I had the breakfast tacos wow, they came with rice and beans were authentic the tacos had a double corn tortilla filled with egg meat onion and avocado. I love coming here when visiting family in Imperial. The place is never over crowded and I love their early bird specials. The 3 of us can have a HUGE, hearty breakfast for under $20. Although there are 3 Broken Yokes in San Diego, where I live, I haven't ventured to any of the others, but I'm sure they are just as good. Previously to today I have always had a great experience and loved the food. Today the hostess that put us on the waitlist, and the one who sat us, sadly were not welcoming, did not show good work ethic and appeared so irritated. Even though we waited quite a while to get our drinks and food our actual server was kind and I appreciated her help. I've had retail and customer service jobs and understand we get overwhelmed and frustrated especially during busy hours. When we asked the hostess who sat us for a high chair she looked upset we asked for it and also slammed it down when she brought it back. She never said a word to us, made no eye contact and looked like she didn't want to be there. The food was a bummer too. My plate had obviously microwaved rice, peas were depleted and dry. However the other plates in our group were good, thankfully. The workers I feeljust need to be re trained. Our previous visit from today we also had a slight issue were their system went down and could only accept cash. They asked us to wait while they tried to reboot. After 40 mins, I asked if I could just take cash out and come back to pay. Which I did. While we were waiting the workers were laughing ,joking around and not one employee apologized.
