This is an update for IHOP since the last is a few years old. IHOP has really improved. They greeted us immediately when we entered and showed us to a table. The decor has been upgraded and is more upscale. The menu is large, including a number of pages for breakfast. We ordered chicken fried steak (gravy on the side because we knew it wouldn't be finished) that came with a side-we chose pancakes. And blueberry pancakes. The food came out quickly and everything was fresh & hot. The chicken fried steak was very large and crispy and the taste was good (although it's a thicker batter). The pancakes were light and flavorful. I weren't aware that blueberry pancakes came with a blueberry sauce and whipped cream. The blueberry sauce & whipped cream was too sweet and was scraped off. We were impressed with our meal at IHOP. The lunch and dinner menu has been improved and there were some interesting items. Prices seem fair and service was excellent. read more

Food was good. I have no complaints about food. Unfortunately the service that we received felt like we were being pushed out and harassed. The hostess sat us down and the place wasn't even half crowded but we were sat at a table that was close to another family. We told the waitress what we wanted, we got our food on timely manner. It wasn't the right potatoes that I requested, I wanted the home style potatoes not the hash brown style which I received. I didn't correct the waitress, but the potatoes was still good. The hostess sat another couple right next to us even though there are a lot of empty tables very close by, I felt like we were getting packed like sardines for no reason. The part of dining experience that Im really upset about and I know that I will never return back to this diner again because we had 3 different people continuously come to our table to ask how we are doing and if we want them to box our food. We clearly wasn't done eating. My husband did pay early for our meal because we didn't want to get that trapped feeling that you get from most dining out experience that you are done eating but the waitress is busy serving other tables so you are trapped until the waitress is available. My husband likes to pay early to avoid that trapped feeling because when your done eating, you just want to go. Anyways, we were still eating and we kept getting the staff members interrupting us talking to ask us if everything is good and if we want our food get boxed up. Every 10 to 15 minutes we were getting staff members come to our table, rushing us out. The place wasn't busy at all so I didn't get why they were being pushy to hurry us up. When the third random person came to our table again to say well you guys look full, you want me to box up your food. I was livid and my husband knew that so we didn't even want to finish our food at this point. I talked to the manager about it and she said it is new policy that they were told to do, to go to every table every 10 minutes or so to ask how they are doing. Just horrible. Customer service sucks I walking in no one greeted me after 5 mins of standing there was the server making eye contact with me the entire time while I was standing I walked over and asked do I seat myself??? Terrible kitchen, terrible food, terrible management. Some Unhygienic servers. I witnessed cleaning done with dirty buckets of water. Consistent employees wiping their nose with no gloves. And very, very unorganized with serving tables. Example: My children ordered Stuffed French toast which came out cold and in 5 minutes. My adult order of creating my own omelette took 30 minutes to be served. All though the bill was cleared of the stuffed French toast. I wouldn't go there again. Good food, great service, and prices that are too high. I'll explain. Arrived for a Sunday morning family breakfast. I was pleased that a table for 5 of us was available without a wait at 8 am. This is a very clean and modern location right off of the freeway. Oscar was an awesome waiter; both personable and knowledgeable as well as very efficient at his job. We really appreciated his recommendations. Our breakfasts were delivered in a very reasonable time with everything prepared perfectly. I asked for some salsa for my omelet which Oscar brought right away. Personally, I consider salsa a condiment, not a side dish. Imagine my surprise to receive the bill and see that I had been charged $1.49 for the salsa. Due to some sharing, we ended up ordering just 4 breakfasts and 4 hot beverages and our total came to just under $55. For what we had - and I will reiterate that it was all tasty - it was definitely not worth more than $10 per person. And since we had one without a beverage and two who shared a breakfast, it actually came out to more than $13 per meal with beverage, before tip. I encourage the IHOP corporation to look at their pricing and I think they'll find that they are somewhat overpriced. And consider not being so petty as to charge a buck and a half for some salsa to add to an omelet that I've already paid 12 bucks for. You know what I wouldn't mind paying a dollar and a half for? Real maple syrup. That would have been money well spent. All things considered, I would probably not pay this much for breakfast here again. A good IHOP location. I popped in here after a very, very long day where breakfast for dinner was the only meal that made any kind of sense. It seemed like only one guy was attempting to serve every table, and to my surprise, he did a fantastic job. And considering this place is in a fairly remote location, I wasn't sure what to expect as far as restrooms go, but it was pretty clean. We arrived about 8am the 20th of Aug and they were not busy. Things went down hill when our orders arrived as the breakfast was not as we ordered. Part of my meal was on my wife's plate and hers on mine. The waitress took both plates back and shortly returned and it looked like they just dumped part of my order on her plate and left the rest on my plate . Of course the meal was cooling off and most of the food was not hot. Other problems like very oily scrambled eggs and hash browns and the pancakes were uncooked nearer to the center, very gooey, outside was real dark brown but we should have taken notice of the big sheet of paper on the entrance door, wanted a chef ! I have lived in the area all my life and have never been to the IHOP here. I have been to a couple in the San Diego area and the Customer Service was bleek. But at the El Centro IHOP I received AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE from a server named Maria. My rating 5 stars is for her giving me a great dinning experience. On the way back from CA I stopped in for some hot tea, feeling exhausted from the trip and still 4 hours from my home. Aidee hooked me up! She brought out our tea to-go but let me fix it inside. She brought out fat slices of lemon, enough honey, napkins, and even the spoons to stir it up proper. On the way out, she wished me a safe trip. I came to this remotely located IHOP twice. First time, I had Ham Dinner. Second time, I had French Pot Roast. Though the taste and quality of the food was ok (the meat in the Pot Roast was tender), both the ham and the beef were too salty. The Clam Chowder hardly had any clams in it, and the potato cubes did not taste fully cooked. The restaurant was pretty empty in both visits. This IHOP is located next to Fwy 8 within walking distance to Best Western John Jay Inn, Comfort Inn, and a huge gas station. The staff was very nice. Worst service. Owner is extremely incompetent and staff isn't too bright either. Called at 8:30 to reserve a table at 11:20 gave the kid my name and went about my day. When I arrived the restaurant was in chaos and checked in, #1 the kid took the wrong name and second the owner was giving me flack about having to wait for all the walk ins before me. Stopped for breakfast and the food was perfectly cooked - kudos to the cook! But we were most impressed with our waitress Elissa. This lady loves serving others and called it fun. She listened well to our requests and showed us a cheaper way to order the same thing. That's customer service. So I watched her serve others - hug and kiss on the cheek from and older gentleman. The food here is what can be expected of IHOP; no complaints there. I am a big fan of their new french toast combos. The peaches and cream version is heavenly. Mainly, I'm writing this to mention what a great server Oscar is. I've been there more times than I want to admit in the past month, and he is consistently friendly and attentive. He even remembered my drink order after my first visit, and has asked me on subsequent visits whether I want the same or if I'd like something different. Was staying at the Best Western nearby and went over for dessert. The website menu said they offered chocolate cake and cheesecake. In reality all they offered was a crepe with ice cream and an ice cream sundae. I was there at 7 pm on a Wed and it was completely empty; not one customer in the place. This might be why the restaurant was not heated. It was so cold (52 degrees outside) that I took my strawberry crepe with ice cream to go. The cold crepe tasted like old oil and the artificial red sauce was nasty. At least it had fresh strawberries. The waitress was nice but failed to give me a spoon. They probably didn't have any.
