    Blackened Grouper sandwich

We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious and decadent Surf and Turf burger. It was topped with a beautiful seafood blend of unctuousness that complimented the beef patty. We ordered it medium rare and it was a bit over but was still juicy. We also had the Grouper sandwich prepared blackened. The sandwich was also very good and the fish was cooked to perfection but it needed more seasoning--we added a kick of hot sauce to spice it up a bit. We sat outdoors to enjoy the beautiful view and it was also heated and dog friendly. Service was friendly and attentive.

Ate here several times while staying upstairs, and each time we tried something different and really enjoyed everything. My husband really liked the oatmeal for breakfast, as it featured fresh fruit. We both loved the cheeseburgers --cooked to perfection and juicy. Staff were very friendly and very nice; great view of the river if you eat outside. We'd definitely go back!

Five Stars -- Three Thumbs Up! We spontaneously walked into Broken Keel on New Year's Eve, and honestly, it turned into one of the best restaurant experiences we've ever had. From the moment we walked in, we were seated in rockstar seating right next to the band, which instantly set the tone for an unforgettable night. The live music, the energy, the crowd -- everything was absolutely spot on. Our server Xannah was nothing short of AMAZING. Truly some of the best service we've ever received anywhere. She took care of us all night long, never missed a beat, and treated us like family. Friendly, attentive, fun, and genuinely awesome -- she made the entire experience next-level. The food was great, the atmosphere was electric, and the people were fantastic. We stayed all the way until midnight, ringing in the New Year and watching the fireworks -- it couldn't have been more perfect. If you're anywhere near Savannah, do not miss Broken Keel. Highly recommend -- 5 stars, 3 thumbs up, and we'll absolutely be back!

A decent cocktail stop with patio seats overlooking the river. We heard the music and went upstairs. Service was a bit awkward as we weren't sure who to flag down for an order as any servers seemed like they were avoiding us instead of finding us a seat and menu etc. We got it worked out. Drinks were satisfying. CritDicks

First time in Savannah. Staying at River Street Inn. This seafood place is located in the hotel. It definitely achieves the nautical theme with ease. Very pleasant if not a little noisy for my taste. Extremely large portions. The bisque was excellent. Service was decent.

We had an ok experience at Broken Keel. It started out good and then somehow our order got lost in the kitchen or it was never entered into the system. Our server let us know and we were playing a game so we didn't really notice how long it was taking for our food to come out. Once he told us it still took almost another 30 minutes. During our visit it rained multiple times and the weather started to cool off. We asked for the heaters (above our heads) to be turned on and the manager offered to turn them on and bring us blankets. We waited and waited and had to ask again for this to actually happen. We also asked for something to munch on since our food was taking so long. They brought chips and salsa which was great but in our opinion that should have come as soon as they realized our order was lost. Once our food arrived we enjoyed it but we were so ready to leave and our stay just kept getting drawn out. We had to track down our server to get our check and we got 10% off our bill. We felt like that was pretty measly considering what happened. We ended up being at the restaurant for almost three hours. The atmosphere is great and the food was good but unfortunately our experience wasn't the best. We'll probably skip it next time we're in town.

Came for breakfast and thought everything was just mediocre. The omelette also had a ton of oil -- which wasn't ideal given I ordered it to be on the healthier side. I'd also stay away from the coffee which tasted just like grounds and water had been sitting in a pot for a few days. The food also takes a long time to come out so be prepared to wait a bit. The positive was our server was very nice.

Breakfast was not great. Our server disappeared and the food was served on the smallest plate possible. The hash browns were terribly greasy. The bar was fine. Nice music outside and games to play on the bar.

Frozen strawberry drink and almost ready martini (lol)

Monday night on river street in historic district Savannah. This great bar is on the Second floor patio overlooking the river. The martini was ginormous and I could only handle one but it was super good. The strawberry frozen margarita was very tasty. Raw oysters were good but tiny, but the Firecracker Shrimp made the night. It was sooo good, you have to try it!! And the servers were so sweet. They were so nice to allow us to bring Lexi along and even brought her water. Really, Savannah is such a dog friendly place, it makes my heart happy. I highly recommend a visit here.

Great Food, Laid-Back Vibe, but Service Needs Work We stopped by Broken Keel along the Savannah River and loved the outdoor vibe--it's chill, laid-back, and the live music really adds to the atmosphere. It's a great place to relax, grab a drink, and enjoy the view. We sat at the bar, ordered a beer, and a few mains. The food was excellent--definitely 5-star quality. Everything we tried was flavorful and well-prepared. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the food. It took about 8-10 minutes just to be acknowledged at the bar, and once we were, things didn't improve much. We didn't get refills on our water, and we weren't given any silverware--we actually had to go find it ourselves. So while the food and ambiance were great, the service was disappointing. I'd give the food 5 stars but the service only 2. Hopefully, they can tighten things up a bit because this place has a lot of potential!

Before our trip, one of my fraternity brothers told me that if I wanted some of the best Southern soul food in Savannah, I had to visit Mrs. Wilkes. He also warned me that there would be a long wait. Let me just say--he was absolutely right on both counts! We arrived at the restaurant and stood in line outside in the rain. We didn't get seated until 1:00 PM. Normally, I would not wait that long for a meal, but for the record, and I can't believe I'm saying this--it was worth every minute of the wait. The experience was unlike any restaurant I've ever visited. My wife and I were seated at a large table with approximately eight other people whom we had never met. Yet within minutes, it felt like we were dining with family. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with genuine Southern hospitality. The food was simply outstanding. Every traditional Southern dish you can imagine was brought to the table and passed family-style from person to person. The home-cooked flavors reminded me of the meals many of us grew up enjoying. Everything was delicious, and the desserts were just as impressive. What made the experience even more special was the sense of community. People of different backgrounds and races were dining together, sharing food, conversation, and fellowship. The staff worked together seamlessly and went out of their way to make every guest feel welcome. While we waited in line, a gracious lady shared the history of the restaurant and the legacy of Mrs. Wilkes herself. The staff even provided umbrellas to guests who didn't have one--including me--which was a thoughtful gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment to customer service. From the food, to the hospitality, to the rich history and unique family-style dining experience, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room exceeded every expectation. If you're visiting Savannah, this is not just a meal--it's an experience. I proudly give Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room a 5 out of 5-star rating and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Savannah.

This said, I do think there is inconsistency based on staff at the restaurant. On one occasion they have accommodated a request, and on another I was denied the exact same request. I found this frustrating. On one occasion I've also seen management talk down to staff here, which is a big no no for me. All people (especially staff) are due respect and this rubbed me the wrong way. This was an isolated incident but it definitely made my dining experience uncomfortable. Especially because I was getting excellent service from the server!!! I've always had quality service from servers here. The refund came through exactly as he said it would. To be clear, the food on my visit genuinely missed, and I'm not pretending otherwise. But Tyler responded publicly, owned it, and followed through completely. That kind of accountability is rare, and it's what earned the bump. Credit where it's due on the space, too -- the ambiance is genuinely great. Warm, candle-lit dining room, an open kitchen, a well-stocked bar, and a covered patio that had a real buzz to it. It's a spot that looks and feels like somewhere you want to be, which is exactly why I'd give the kitchen another shot based on how the owner runs this place. --- Original review (2 stars): Disappointing birthday dinner. Came in for my birthday and left underwhelmed. Our server Troy was the one bright spot -- professional and attentive all night. Caesar salad: Several bitter pieces of lettuce, and no black pepper offered or available. Faroe Island salmon: Overly buttery like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. The shishito cream sauce was way too acidic -- tasted like uncooked wine or vinegar. Crispy rice cakes were bland and a strange pairing (rice blocks with salmon?). The baby bok choy was decent until the sauce drowned it out. Braised beef short rib: Tender but flavorless. The mashed potatoes tasted old, not fresh that evening. To top it off, my wife had arranged ahead of time for the birthday dessert to be brought out -- the message never reached Troy, so that moment never happened. Troy deserved better than what the kitchen sent out.
