Went there last night and I love the craft cocktails and the steaks are pretty good. Local establishment that I've been going to for well over 5 years now. 5* for cocktails. I had a dirty goose martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. 5* for support to military and police/fire/ambulance w/ a 10% discount that helps cover the tax. -9* for integrity and truth in advertising. I asked to substitute fries for veggies for a really great cheeseburger that they're known for (1/2 price on Wednesdays too)! I've been trying to go as low carb as possible, so I asked what I could sub the fries for - asparagus was the veggie of the evening. Ok, not my fav, but better than feeling stuffed after mowing down a bunch of fries and then guilty for not eating as healthy as I could. Well, dinner was great, it was tasty like I remember. Asparagus was chewy and they gave me a butter knife to cut it with when it needed a steak knife for sure. Wasn't anything to write home about, but I came there for the burger anyhow. All good. Then I got the bill - cool, military discount - thank you very much! Whoa... wait, what the heck is this? $9 for asparagus? Huh? We didn't talk about that. A "substitution" is just that, I gave you the fries back by not having you make them, in return I get a healthier option. BUT - if you're going to keep the fries, AND charge me extra $$ for a veggie that I didn't REALLY want, it was just healthy, THEN we need to talk about it. It's an integrity thing. So, I went from a long day of travel, craving The Broken Bit's famous 1/2 lb burger, to just being mad that they snuck one by me and were not honest. The server I had was busy, his friend took my food order and put it in the system as a separate charge, but you HAVE to tell people that's what you're doing, or else people write things like this to tell everyone else... I left the restaurant and did not talk with the manager - I was in a rush and the place was busy. I DID leave a note on my receipt though, and even said that it "was not cool" not telling people about charges like that. I'm leaving it to the owner (or manager) to do the right thing. Please just refund my $9 and the tax, and we're good. Or, I can come get it, but that will also cost you and airline ticket for me. Check #44. Again, 5* food and cocktails. I needed to make reservations on OpenTable, I have never done that before and it was a very easy process. You were able to put in the reservations if you were there for a special occasion. It was a celebration birthday. We arrived on time and seated right away. They even put a happy birthday sign on our table. Jessica was our server, we told her we have never been here and she welcomed us. They didn't have any specials for that evening. It was fine with me. I had already made my mind up that I wanted the Oatmeal Stout Braised Pork Shank served with mashed potatoes. The birthday boy got a top sirloin, medium rare with brussels sprouts. Our appetizer was the onion straws with an amazing horseradish sauce. What's great about this place everything is made in house. All the sauces, salad dressings, desserts. You can definitely taste the love put into the food. For desert they brought him out homemade birthday cake ice cream, and a candle. It was very nice. This is our favorite place! We celebrated our dear friend's birthdays here tonight. We had filets and of course, they were amazing. The owner Mike came by and asked if there was anything we needed. We teased that we would like some non-alcoholic beer . He happened to be out at the moment and proceeded to go to the dairy across the street to get us some. So sweet and literally the extra mile that this restaurant goes to make sure you are happy and have an amazing experiences. The desserts were off the chain wrapping up this phenomenal dinner. This place is delicious. I was doing my laundry next door and could smell the smokey bbq. I had to go here. I got a bacon burger with avocado on the side. Ridiculous flavor. So good. For dessert I got a maple bacon bourbon sundae. The bourbon came on the side in a shot glass. You just pour it in your sundae. It's not easy to get a group of my family's size together often, and finding places that can accommodate a party of 7 that also produces excellent food is a challenge in an of itself. Broken Bit is the business. Small town environment, but when you walk in the door, a legitimate steakhouse aura greets you. You'd have no idea it shares a strip mall building with an ambulance company. Dark wood, lowlights, and a warm environment abound. The menu is expansive and has a lot of options. The food is excellent and well prepared. I don't remember what everyone at the table had but the highlights I recall are: deeply flavorful polenta, jalapeño poppers that were equally sweet and spicy, and excellent steaks. Large wine and liquor menu as well, so discerning pallets are well met. It's fantastic that a place like this exists in a town that only seems to grow when corporate entities move in. The spot is a local gem, you see a lot of regulars because this spot has great food, atmosphere, service and drinks. The wall is full of great western decor and awards for their drinks & dishes. Todays server was super polite, attentive and entertaining; she made us feel like family. We celebrated 3 birthdays today and they made this dinner unforgettable. The food was so great we didn't even get a chance to take photos for other items. They catered to my fathers wheelchair and the bigger party of ten. Finally made it to this site after hearing and reading about this place. For the most part it was not a disappointment but they have their shortcomings. Made reservations and was promptly seated. Jaden was our server and he did an excellent job. He was friendly, funny and knew the menu extensively. If I come back, I must have him as my server, no one else. I had the pecan crusted redfish with grits and spinach. I could not really detect much of a pecan crust and the spinach which was fresh was way too salty. The grits were the best I have ever tasted. Flavorful with cheese and spices, it was the best part of the meal, except for the piece of flat iron steak, my dinner companion had. It was cooked to perfection. Well seasoned it almost made me wish I had ordered it instead. The lobster mac and cheese which cost $35.00 alone, was sadly lacking sufficient lobster to make it worth the price. Here to celebrate my hubby's birthday. We made reservations so there was no wait. It was a beautiful day and they did have outdoor dining but we chose to eat indoors. Our server was Big O and he was outstanding, funny, and very helpful. I ordered the grits with the redfish and it was phenomenal. Too bad I wasn't able to take a picture of it before I devoured it! My husband had the ribeye well done and a baked potato and it was surprisely a large portion. My son had the steak burger with egg and bacon on it and fries. Service was good. Drinks were good. Steak flavor was great. Cook of the steak fell short of my expectations of this "5/5" steak house. I ordered a medium rare and got a rare. My wife ordered a medium well and received a medium. Asked for it to be cooked a bit longer and they gave us an over cooked steak. I suppose this is the AV's fine dining experience. You pay for the steak with no sides for example which means everything is expensive. My steak was ordered medium and came to the table well done. They compensated us with a dessert although I rather have money off my bill. However, the food was good and service was great. This is the best restaurant in the AV. Not a lot of competition, but it's a solid restaurant. Steaks very good, cocktails good. Grilled Caesar very good. Wine list needs work. Very Cab S heavy. Not particularly interesting. Where they need improvement is service. Even with a reservation you have to wait. We went to the bar to get a cocktail while we waited, we were never greeted by the bar staff. In fact they seem to go out of their way to not make eye contact. The manager Orlando however is great - so why isn't the staff more like him? You feel like they don't want you there. Our waiter however was awesome. Note to management: the attitude of the bar staff and the hostesses is off putting. Welcome guests, even if you are busy and let them know you'll be with them as soon as you can. This is the second time I have issues with a reservation. I still decided to give them another chance because the food is good. This was for a special 50th anniversary. Made the reservation way in advance and was specific over the phone that I needed a table to accommodate a disability. They seemed to have understood after I confirmed twice. Waited 15 mins extra after the reservation to be told that they, in fact, didn't make the accommodations available because they took in a big party. (And, well, what owner wants to lose that kind of money? Is what we left feeling.) We were told that we were going to have to wait another hour or so. They did offer a small booth but this wouldn't have sufficed for the disability. Which is why we called to inquire if they could oblige us.
