While driving through Antelope valley today my husband decided he wanted to get some breaded fried zucchini and looked up places that made them. That's how we wound up at Schooners today. Food: Super large portions. Not many healthy choices. We ordered the fried zucchini. It had a nice seasoning but it was too greasy. The caprese salad with vinaigrette was soggy and beyond disappointing. Figured that was the healthiest choice on the menu. I couldn't eat more than 2 bites. The loaded baked potato was swimming in melted butter. A lot of butter. The bacon was actually the star of the plate. This place is where you come to share several plates. Service: Great. Jamie T. was our server. She was super friendly and had such an upbeat personality. She checked back with us several times to make sure things were going well. We sat at the very NFL Playoff bar, and our bartender got to us as soon as he could with a smile. Love stopping in here for food and drinks when I'm in the area. I used to go to Schooners when I was a kid so this is a fun nostalgic place. I don't typically go when it's crazy busy as the crowds are too much, but when it's not busy I love to just sit and relax and enjoy some Cuban Fries. They are sooo good. read more

Ubered here and was finishing my sliders from home and a cup of ORANGE JUICE. Grabbing the door they send an employee to deny us entry because "they saw you drinking outside." I then mentioned it was orange juice and i can show you the cup from the trash. He still declined and said no don't drinking anything outside. So my review comes from the place of being a regular before the pandemic. This is only the third time I've been back post lockdown. Unfortunately, all three times I've been back, I've had pretty much the same experience: great bar food and bad drinks. They put ice in the pear cider and the wheat beer I ordered. The Ultimate Bloody Mary was served with a tajin rim, no spice whatsoever, and barely detectable levels of vodka. The drinks here used to be good, but just fail now. Some times you just want to go down the street, have a drink, and listen to good music while eating comfy food. Schooners was the perfect place for us to "just hang out." Although it was a bit overpriced, we definitely enjoyed our time here. All the food comes in generous portion sizes that could easily be shared by two people. While our main meals were delicious, the star of the night was the ranch. Schooners has pretty fantastic ranch and we definitely recommend trying the jalapeño ranch if you like a little spice (which we learned was the bartender's recipe). Just make sure you don't get the two confused as the jalapeño ranch is the same color as the regular dressing, unlike the yellow/orange color at other places. We took our time sipping on drinks, enjoying the baseball game on the numerous TVs and listening to the ever rotating music that seem to be set on bar karaoke. The owner and his friends are rude and disrespectful. First off owner friend told me I could not have my service dog in the business. I'm sorry not for him to even comment on. server then proceeds to try to say same. I asked to speak with the owner and I explained what the rules were. He then tried to tell me I could not touch my service dog as then my hands would touch their napkins and coasters. are you kidding me. And all disposable of course. He then proceeds to eat a huge breakfast with his friend(s) who now won't look at me because my service dog was doing his job as he is trained to do. Horrible treatment. Now I understand issues with fake service dogs however a service dog owner like myself would be the first to leave if my dog became uncomfortable or sensed something off or another dog or human acosted him. No business owner or entity has the right to treat someone like that and say you cannot touch your dog. They do not get to make up their own rules. They were literally 2-3 times the size of wingstop but I'm trying to find a good small business with good wings so I tried theirs. 3 out of 10 on the wings. I really like this spot just because it's a good "dive," and they let you smoke inside. But, that's not to say there aren't pretty crummy things about it. I'm convinced that you could walk in there and sit for 4+ hours without any waitress noticing you; it's almost as if you have to beg to drink here. The food is great. 7.5/10. I would not consider it a sports bar because of two things: half the time you have to beg for their staff to put on relevant sports (it could be Super Bowl Sunday, and they will have on NASCAR or NCAAW CBB), and the other half you have to beg them to put on live sports in general. read more
