We decided to branch out and try more of the menu this visit, including the sliders, Parmesan garlic fries, mac and cheese, Micheladas (with Modelo and Pacifico), and the vodka spaghetti with grilled chicken. The pasta was a standout--rich, flavorful, and with a subtle spice I've been trying to recreate for years from a dish I used to love. This came remarkably close. Everything else was just as strong: the sliders were juicy and well-seasoned, the fries were loaded with garlicky Parmesan goodness, the mac and cheese was creamy and comforting, and the Micheladas were crisp and refreshing on a hot day. It's not trying to be a loud, high-energy chain like BJ's or Yard House--instead, it's relaxed, comfortable, and ideal for actually enjoying conversation or a game over a good meal. Coach's Tavern has quickly become one of my favorite spots in the Antelope Valley. It's honestly refreshing to finally have a place that feels a little more upscale without losing that fun sports bar vibe. The layout is perfect, you've got the lounge area with couches and a great bar atmosphere on one side, then the restaurant on the other, with TVs everywhere if you're catching a game. The food has been consistently good every time we've gone. The New York Strip was my favorite, and the skirt steak was also delicious. And don't skip the bread! Their pretzel-style rolls are ridiculously good and worth the hype. For appetisers, I'd recommend the jalapeño poppers, they have a very unique taste! Every cocktail we've tried has been fantastic. If you like margaritas, get the cucumber margarita with the Tajín foam on top. Trust me. Overall, Coach's Tavern is exactly what the AV needed a classy place to grab dinner, have great drinks, watch the game, or just hang out with friends. Coach's Tavern is a great place to stop in for a quick bite, dinner with friends, and even a full event. My husband and I eat here 2-3 times a month, but I was able to recently host an event and it went off without a hitch! We booked the dining room the right for about a 40 person retirement party. Heather was in contact with me days before my event to see if we needed anything, which was nice. We were able to come in an hour early to decorate and set up prior to the event start, which was perfect. Sam and Joseph were able to keep up with the drink and food orders through the whole event. They provided anything and everything we asked for. The food was delicious. We pre ordered some appetizers for when we arrived and it was a nice kick off to the party. Our favorite dish is of course the mild buffalo wings and lemon pepper is a close second. The buffalo cauliflower, mozzarella sticks, and zucchini fries were also fantastic. Coach's Tavern Review After visiting Coach's Tavern 3 times, I feel like I can give a fair and consistent review. Each visit required a reservation, but unfortunately all 3 times we were seated at least 30 minutes after our reservation time. For a restaurant that presents itself as an upscale establishment through its website, décor, and overall atmosphere, I feel like the hospitality and service should match that same level. The staff could definitely benefit from more training when it comes to prompt service and creating that elevated guest experience. As for the food, the prices are definitely on the higher side, so I expected the flavors to match the cost. I will say the head chef has some really creative and exciting ideas for the menu, but the execution and taste could use some improvement to justify the prices. The drinks were actually a highlight--overall they were good! However, some bartenders could be more knowledgeable about the variety of cocktails offered. Their mocktail selection is a nice touch and definitely appreciated. The butter cake is a little tricky--it's a hit or miss. I ordered it every time I visited, and all 3 times it tasted different, so consistency is something they could work on. The food was amazing, but the guava piña colada was absolutely delicious! We highly recommend the skirt steak, and the onion rings were incredible. My husband ordered the vodka pasta and absolutely loved it! At first, he thought it needed more cheese, but after trying it, he realized it was perfect just the way it was. My friend ordered the 42 Burger, and it was a little plain it could definitely use a few more toppings. Other than that, everything was packed with flavor! Previous Yelpers kinda' intimidated me with their reviews, but now I am thinking that maybe, just maybe, THAT was their plan because they do not want people from out of town to go here. I drove a little under 2hrs to go to Coach's Tavern and I hope to return again. I genuinely love and respect the atmosphere and the food. The cook was worried about getting whipped cream on the butter cake and that did not bother me or my friend one bit (but more about that later), more importantly, the cook CARED. PARKING There is plenty of parking but the inside spot is spacious so on busy days/nights, I recommend carpool. SERVICE Attentive from the VERY beginning. And it was not annoying, either. I really felt like friends sat us and waited on us. My water cup was kept full and that's an honorable thing for me to mention. DRINKS My friend ordered an Old Fashion and this was the 2nd best one he has had, and he has ordered plenty of Old Fashions in our day. He appreciated the drink and I appreciated the fanciful block ice cube. I, on the non-alcohol hand, ordered a La Isla mocktail: strong hibiscus flavor and I forgot what else, but it was pretty! FOOD To start, we ordered the fried zucchini. It was about 6 deep friend tempura veggie sticks served with ranch dressing. I think this was a great starter. Nothing special, but a good start! THE AMBIANCE and SERVICE We arrived at 12:30pm and left at 3:30pm, not that you should stay that long, and the food was served within good timing, we just enjoyed eating, drinking, and exchanging stories with our waitress. THE FOOD I ordered the Westwood Sunrise (by the way, their burgers are all California sports teams themed) and this was definitely a UCLA burger. It was good, and messy, as a burger should be. But, if you let the burger rest for too long (like I did because I talk too much) the burger patty loses its juice. Still a good thick patty, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, but the best part: sunny side egg, avocado, and bacon. Smash down on the pretzel bun and devour the burger. It looks small, and menu does say it was served in a pretzel bun so a smallef portion is expected if you know what you are ordering. It did take me a while to eat it because I ended up eating the messy burger with my fork. Served with a good cup of fries! My friend ordered the California Steak Sandwhich lunch (drink, fries, and half a sandwhich) special and he enjoyed it. The steak wasn't chewy (he told me he has had steak sandwiches with chewy meat) and well marinated. It was tender meat! This steak sandwhich was served which chopped marinated meat sandwhiched and layed between 3 slices of sourdough bread. Great choice! DESSERTS We had to! It was a Butter Cake topped with slices of strawberry. It is not normally served with whipped cream (so we were told) and the cook was worried (so we were told) and we did not mind. I did NOT want to share my cake so we both had our own. No regrets with one to take home (it was my birthday cake). Overall, I enjoyed the food, drinks, and deserts. I thought the prices were reasonable, honestly. Coach's Tavern looks like a smoke lounge, but I really do think this is classy for sports fans looking for a nice out on the town. This place is phenomenal. Right when you walk in you enter a gorgeous bar area with trendy tables/ chairs/ couches. The ambiance is upscale with an LA sports vibe. The music playing through the speakers consists of throwback R&B. I was loving the vibe. Samuel was our server and he was fantastic. The happy hour menu is wonderful. The rib eye chicharrones are a must have! They are so flavorful and juicy. The mozzarella sticks were also great, as well as the wings. I asked for them well done and they were cooked to perfection. The broccolini was tasty, as well as the butter cake. I had a few French 75 drinks and my husband had some Guava coladas. I went with a friend mid-week. The restaurant is very nicely designed and decorated. I thought the sports memorabilia and pictures was a nice add to go along with the Coach's theme. It was a cooler day so, didn't go outside but it looked nice for a warmer day. We went about 3:00pm and reservations could only be made at certain times around that time but, we were the only customers dining for about 30 minutes. We were informed that they start dinner at 5:00pm so, the time we chose there was a limited menu (which was ok). Our waiter, his name I believe was Khai (sorry if incorrect) he was the bartender as well. Extremely friendly and attentive! I've heard a lot about the dress code we did follow the dress code posted on their website and at the front entrance on a visible sign. However, everyone else that walked in were extremely casual (one individual had on house shoes), another gentleman had on basketball shorts and casual shoes (these individuals were not in the same group). I say that to say, the rules are conflicting however, I do not mind but a definitive rule would be appreciated. The items are more pricey but, for the ambiance and upscale vibe - it makes sense. I had dinner at this restaurant for my 60th Birthday. I read the mixed reviews here first and decided to try it for myself. OMGOSH! I'm so glad I did because we had an amazing experience. First of all, the decor, the ambiance, and overall vibe gets an A+ from me. The hostess greeted me with a warm smile and showed me around, by request, then seated me in the waiting area until my friends arrived. Our server was AWESOME and very attentive to us the entire time. The live music was great. And the food - it was EXCELLENT!!! We all enjoyed everything we ordered and had no complaints. I had the 6 oz filet mignon, Asparagus, and Mushrooms. I was very pleased with the flavor on the filet, and it was still juicy even though I ordered it well. They gave me the butter cake for dessert and it was so delicious. This is an upscale restaurant, so yes, the prices are on the higher end. The meats don't come with side dishes. That's not unusual because there are other upscale restaurants that so the same. Overall, I give Coach's Tavern an A+. I loved everything about it and can't wait to go back. I had been wanting to try Coach's Tavern for a while, so we decided to celebrate my return to work after maternity leave with a date night. Since I'm no longer breastfeeding, I was also looking forward to enjoying a good cocktail. The first thing that stood out was the décor. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and aesthetics. My Old Fashioned was perfectly made, and my husband enjoyed the Hazy IPA on tap. Despite the prices, I really wanted to give this place a fair chance. We started with the Nashville chicken sliders and garlic Parmesan fries, and they were both delicious. Unfortunately, the disappointment came with my steak. While it was a decent portion, it lacked flavor, and having to pay separately for sides made the meal feel overpriced. I was excited to try the cowboy butter, but they were out of it--and, in fact, they were out of several menu items. I settled for their house steak sauce, but it tasted overwhelmingly like raisins. I know steak sauces often contain raisins, but the flavor was far too overpowering for my taste. Wanting to be fair with my review, we decided to try dessert as well. The butter cake with ice cream was outstanding! My husband isn't much of a dessert person, and even he loved it. One of the biggest pros is that everything is made in-house, even their blue cheese sauce. The biggest con is that some menu items feel overpriced. If steaks no longer come with sides and guests have to pay extra, I expect the steak itself to be perfectly seasoned and prepared. On a positive note, my husband's burger was actually better than my steak. As someone who loves steak and eats it often, I don't mind paying premium prices, but I do expect an exceptional product. We ended up getting the Westwood Sunshine Burger and The 42. Both great. My husband loved his Old Fashion and I liked my Mocktail. Heads up. They charge for each sauce with no warning. The place looks nice, clean and elegant but just because you put the fried chicken wings on a plate instead of a basket doesn't mean you should charge $25. Also, get your prices right. A smooth run up the 5 to the 14 -- no LA traffic chaos, no brake lights -- just open road and high expectations. The destination: the Antelope Valley, specifically Coach's Tavern, one of the area's newest and most talked-about upscale openings. This was a place we had been watching for a while. Early on, reservations were difficult to come by, which only added to the anticipation. When we finally secured one a week out, we were ready to see whether the experience would live up to the buzz. Coach's Tavern is a complete departure from its roots as Coach's Sports Bar -- a full 180. The space leans dark and polished, with marble tabletops, deep tones, and a striking bar that anchors the room. Sports memorabilia is thoughtfully placed. Visually, the room wants to be elevated -- and largely succeeds. Where it stumbles slightly is in restraint. The number of large TVs pulls the energy back toward sports-bar territory, diluting the upscale tavern feel the restaurant is clearly aiming for. Fewer screens, or more subtle integration, would go a long way in refining the atmosphere. When we arrived, the restaurant was clearly busy. We were escorted to a tabletop that felt tight but manageable. Not a dealbreaker, but at a premium price point, comfort and spacing are details that matter. Our server was pleasant and well-intentioned, but familiarity with the menu and cocktail program was lacking. More than once, I found myself correcting descriptions -- and there's a meaningful difference between an Old Fashioned and a Paper Plane. At this level, those distinctions shouldn't require explanation from the guest. More concerning was availability. Several wines and cocktails were unavailable, including the Black Mamba, their signature Smoked Old Fashioned, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon wines-- at a newly opened restaurant is difficult to justify. A strong, reliable beverage program is foundational, not optional. At the helm of the kitchen is Executive Chef Marisa Montes, whose leadership shapes Coach's Tavern's menu and culinary direction. Under her guidance, the kitchen blends familiar tavern staples with aspirations toward elevated fare, from seared sea bass to hand-cut steaks. While the restaurant is still finding its rhythm early in its opening, there are flashes of promise that suggest a thoughtful approach to ingredients and execution. We leaned into the more "elevated" side of the menu: Sea bass, Ribeye, Garlic mashed potatoes and Mixed vegetables. Presentation was straightforward, with plates finished using dried parsley that felt more decorative than intentional. The sea bass was flaky and properly cooked; the ribeye was solid, but not memorable. The food was good -- but not great -- and didn't quite reach the level suggested by the pricing or positioning. We finished with the strawberry-topped butter cake, which turned out to be one of the strongest moments of the meal. Balanced, comforting, and well executed, it showed what the kitchen is capable of when everything aligns. We really wanted to like Coach's Tavern. And maybe, being just a month into service, they're still working through early growing pains. But at this price point, those details matter -- and they need to be addressed quickly. This was one of the more expensive meals I've paid for in the area, and unfortunately, the experience didn't justify the cost. Service gaps, missing cocktails, and uneven execution made it feel like potential unrealized rather than promise delivered. You could tell everything was made fresh and with care (the pickle chips were my personal favorite - crispy, tangy, and addictive) The drinks were also amazing, we ordered the Paper Plane, and it actually comes with a little show when it's served, which made the experience even more fun. Beautiful venue. Great for dates, business meetings, and catching up with friends. Drinks are strong and Happy Hour drink prices are decent. We had wings, Caesar salad with steak, jalapeño poppers, and butter cake. The cake stole the show! Servers were attentive--after a while it was annoying.
