The Broadway Diner is the quintessential diner. It has a huge menu filled with reliably tasty comfort food. I don't think I've had anything besides breakfast here but I've had breakfast in the morning, at lunchtime, dinner, and late evening. The sandwiches are huge, the burgers look fabulous and the portions are enormous. They are known for their pancakes for good reason. Try them!!! My server, Ines, was a dream! Ines greeted me promptly, was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, took initiative, and made my dining experience that much better. It was quiet when I arrived and ordered coffee. My favorite diner in the area! Very cute inside and extremely clean. They have a big menu yet I always seem to get the buffalo chicken salad which is tasty. Lots of cheese and the chicken is good, too. They give big portions and their soda comes in cute glass bottles. They also have wine and beer for a very cheap price. I've never gotten alcohol here so can't comment on quality but thought I'd mention it :) My favorite thing about this place is that they give you a carafe of coffee for the table when you order. How can a diner screwed up your egg? I asked for sunny side up coz I love runny egg over my corned beef hash. The eggs came out well done. I totally think they precooked it and they heat it up before serving. He also offered if I want french fries instead of home fries which I gladly accepted. And it came with home fries!!! And when I pointed it out to him, instead of just bringing out French fries on the side, he disappeared with my plate for 5 minutes. I didn't even want to think about what they did with my food. Broadway is your average east coast diner. The service was alright -- slow at times and they kept forgetting our water, but friendly and decent enough. The eggs were actually very well cooked. My omelette was great and my boyfriend's three over medium were cooked perfectly. The hash on the other hand, not good. The hash is made up of a mixture of smaller diced and julienned potatoes and was very unevenly cooked and pretty bland. My bacon was so-so, I wish it had been more crispy. The eggs were the saving grace here, but they need to step up their potato game! read more

The fam and I had a sweet tooth and decided to stop by bc it was local. I checked the menu ahead of time and had my heart set on some lemon meringue pie. Unfortunately I had my heart broken as they didn't have any. The nice waitress said there pie selections vary by day which is fine but they should put that on the menu. I like to order from this diner every once in a while. I normally order the jersey burger medium rare, no egg. They normally say it will be ready in 15 minutes. And I am there within that 15 minutes since I'm close. Tonight I picked up my jersey burger, brought it home and it was the most well done burger I have ever ate. What really bothered me was they were not busy at all. I was not in the mood to go back since of the rain and snow. This burger was literally burnt on the outside, how is that medium rare. My wife and I came here after hitting the gym across the street. We arrvied startving. Right after sitting down I checked yelp and saw the 2.5 star rating. Immeddiately I went, "Uh Oh!" But it was too late... menus were handed out and we had to order. Now, I realize I am at a diner and not some 5 star restaurant but seriously? Waiting more than 30 mins for eggs and bacon? Slow service aside, the real horror story was the food. My wife's eggs benedict came out looking disgusting... her poached eggs were cooked completely through (so well done that the egg yokes were solid). My bacon was... oh boy, how can one f*ck up bacon, you ask? Well, by using CHEAP ass cuts of bacon. It was so bad... the meat tasted rancid. Last but not least, I ordered a side of their "world's best" pancakes (with choclolate chips). Again, how can chocolate anything be bad, right?! WRONG!!!! Again, they used the CHEAPEST of cheap chocolate chips... Tasted like crap i took one bite and wanted to spit it out. "World's best"... my ass! Needless to say we left pissed. You HAVE to have the fancy, nine-grain tuna sandwich! Come with an appetite as the portion is more than generous. Delicious and perfectly dry tuna salad is the center feature. It served with sweet potato fries but my favorite are the waffle fries. Waitstaff is professional and the music is great! read more

I was dragged here once again by my friends. Every time I eat here I always think about how much better food I can get somewhere else for cheaper. I honestly couldn't think of anything positive I could say about this place. The food was junk and outrageously expensive for what it is. There really isn't much else to "review". If you are looking for a better diner experience, I would recommend checking out the summit diner in downtown summit. I am hoping it was a bad night. Ate there last night. Food was disgusting. Everything was cold, stale, tastes were off. Will never return.

Walking into the lobby, I could see that the diner was split into two sections. We were seated in the right hand section. It reminded me of a room from the 1950's or 1960's - decor-wise I mean. And that it NOT a bad thing. Plus with the 50's, 60's music playing, it brought me back in time. I thought the plate glass window was a nice touch and liked the hanging orange lamps over all the tables on the perimeter. Our waitress did not speak English that well but was competent. My bf ordered a dinner while I ordered a sandwich and we both got salads. Interestingly, our salads (which were both huge) were a bit different. He got onions in his while I got more of a Greek type salad, complete with kalamata olives and cucumbers and tomatoes. My sandwich was HUGE, so huge I couldn't finish and need to take it home. My bf's dinner was ok, he finished but he wanted a baked potato and got mashed instead. Not sure if the waitress didn't hear him or didn't understand? Prices were reasonable and such LARGE portions. Honestly, I really think this place should be rated higher. I came in with my husband on a random Friday night at 3AM (we are night owls) when everything in our town was closed. They have an extensive menu and you expect the food to be tasteless like most diners, but this was different. The food taste fresh and service was prompt! I ordered an omelette and my hubs ordered a waffle with sunny side eggs and sausage. It took approximately 7mins from when I ordered to when the food came!!! We were very surprised considering there was a table of about 12 college kids and three other tables of two and four. My omelette was great and my hubs inhaled his food!The service here is also great and our server Ash was amazing!!!! This is a really great pick and you really can't go wrong! read more

I love to come here early AM with my daughter and wife. It is kid friendly ( at least at that time) and at 7am you can have the place to yourself or with a few families. Excellent breakfast fare. The service is good.The pancakes & eggs are very good and the bacon, requested crispy was as ordered. I love their sausage links and the French toast and waffels ( on two separate occasions) were good as well. The problem is consistency. Come here on a weekend during rush and the kitchen and staff must lose their minds. They clearly cant handle the volume without the operation falling apart. I went with my mom and daughter for an 11:30 am Sunday plate of eggs, a grilled cheese and a Gyro and we didn't get out of there until 2pm! We sat and watched while other groups that came in after us get served and left before we even saw our meals. The food was off. Our well done ordered bacon was under done. The gyro contained some strange sausage-esque lamb patty that wasn't terrible but wasn't good either. Fortunately the waitress, I always got to hand it to the waitresses, was pleasant and apologetic and took the bacon off the order upon request. Is it the wait-staff's fault for the delay and bad food? No, I don't think so. Is 24 bucks too much to pay for some substandard eggs, a grilled cheese and a gyro. YES! Will I return back. When I add it up the answer is clearly, NO! 05/18/18 So maybe I spoke too soon? And so daughter and I came again for breakfast like we did in the past and the food and service was good! I am going to presume issues with consistency can happen everyone once and a while here which should be an attention to management. We had pancakes, omelets, sausage and all was good. I don't go there for the food , as a business it's miss managed food is prepped like every restaurant but they sit pickles on coleslaw over night. Freaking nasty! I have really tried to like this diner. I live in Summit and have been there probably 7 times hoping it will be better. Today was the last time. My family and I went for breakfast. It was crowded so I thought it was a good sign that it was going to be good. The orange juice was sour. I ordered blueberry pancakes but got regular. She said she didn't hear me say blueberry. She asked if I wanted some blueberries on the side. Umm...no. The egg on the side was cold. My son had a kids' turkey dinner and it didn't come with a vegetable because when the bill came the waitress said that "vegetables aren't available that early in the day". It was 1pm. She didn't come by and ask how we were. Just brought the check and neglected to ask if my kid wanted the dessert that came with his meal or of we wanted something else. I asked for his dessert to go as we were out the door. The unisex bathroom was FILTHY and disgusting. I will not be trying this place ever again. Not even for coffee. read more

Love the Broadway Diner. It was staple during my childhood until I moved out of Summit. To the people who say the service sucks, I'm shocked! One of the reasons I would frequent Broadway was because of the fast friendly service. (Maybe it was because I was regular that I was better served, I don't know) But I've never had bad service at Broadway. And the food is diner food, so yeah it's not the best 5 star meal you'll ever have. But there paninis kick-ass, I love their pancakes, and they've never screwed up my eggs. But do avoid their hashbrowns, those do suck. But still it's 4 star DINER. They have tons of options and besides for the hashbrowns all of them are good, if not great. read more

If only I could give this place zero stars! Server was extremely unfriendly - cold, not making eye contact, seemed bothered by a simple question. We tipped her 15%; we usually tip 20%. Ordered the pork chops. So incredibly over-cooked and dry. Difficult to cut and impossible to chew. We asked to speak to the manager simply to make him aware and show it to him, not expecting anything else. His response? "They're like that because that's the pork on page 'x' of the menu. The one on page 'y' is better." Was he kidding? Unfortunately, no. Nevertheless, he said he wouldn't charge us. How nice! You know what this slimy, greedy place/manager did? They took the price of the pork chop dinner off the bill, but added the potato and veggies to the bill, which, charged as side dishes, were almost the cost of the whole meal. Cheap, inhospitable, unfriendly, and inedible food! Avoid this place! Go to the Prestige Diner in New Providence or the many eateries nearby. read more

This was an okay diner spot. The menu is vast as there is a lot and a wide variety to pick from. The meal ordered did not take long to be served. The staff that attended to me was respectful and knowledgeable about the dishes served. He checked constantly to make sure I was okay. The food surprised me a bit because I ordered a lobster tail and hash omelette. I waned my eggs scrambled but it wasn't scrambled. The egg was friends and placed on top of the mixture (lobster, hashbrown, mushrooms, bell pepper). I guess I thought the eggs would be mixed into it. Altogether, the meal was good which is why I still gave it a 4 star read more

Pretty terrible experience consistent with lots of other reviews. Even the half grapefruit I ordered came out looking a little rough, and the waitress (who to her credit was friendly) said she didn't have time to cut it. The waffle I got had hair on it (sent it back), the eggs were cold and overly runny, my wife's grilled cheese was ridiculously small, her fries were cold and tasteless, and even her coffee was bad. I had been a patron of this diner since I was a kid.  I had dinner there with my husband and three-year-old son recently.  The server (in training) that welcomed us was very sweet and polite.  The server in charge was persistently rude throughout our entire dining experience.  She was orienting the greeting server, in her 60s, and was told that she is the assistant manager of all things!  Out of the numerous incidents, none was as hurtful as the constant beratement of our son by the server.  This woman referred to our son as a girl two to three times and she was subtly and gently corrected by my husband and I.  After those few incidents, my husband and I heard and saw her "whisper" to the server in training something to the effect of "any parents who allow their kid's hair to grow that long...".  I did not hear the rest of it.  So rudely acknowledging, through this comment, that this child is a boy she still continued to refer to him as a girl several times.  It was disrespectful, judgmental, hurtful, and hateful.  Her customer service was a very poor example to set for the endearing trainee that she was responsible for emulating what good service should be in this long standing restaurant.  I considered that maybe she was having a bad day or received some bad news, but even this would not excuse such behavior towards a child and his parents for a happy little boy having a ponytail. I complained to one of the managers. He told me to write a comment through the website. I did and no reply. After all of these years, I will never ever order from or patron Broadway again. read more

How do you f-up a baked potato? If you thought it was bad before, it's under new management now and it's even worse and the menu has been cut down significantly . I actually used to like this place contrary to some of the other reviews but now the new menu and the new staff are horrible. First, when I entered my waitress was sitting at a table eating a bowl of soup and texting and watched us walk in and sit down. We didn't even know she was our waitress until a few minutes later when she finally got up and begrudgingly came over to speak to us. She was texting the whole time we were there and ignoring customers. A couple at another table tried to order a "black and white", a basic diner ice cream drink, but the waitress didn't know what it was. The waitress then checked with all of the other people working at the diner and she came back and reported "nobody knows what that is". There weren't that many people in the diner, people didn't have their food, but the 4-5 staff were gathered around the counter talking and not really doing much of anything else. We heard several people trying to order normal things that used to be on the menu (as of 2 days ago!), but now were suddenly mysteriously removed from the menu, which happens, but the way it was handled was ridiculous: neither of the waitresses nor the management had any idea what was on or off the menu and couldn't offer any substitutions. It's like the entire staff disappeared and was replaced by a whole bunch of people who just don't even know how to run this place. And the bathroom was gross: dirty paper towels piled sky high and falling onto the floor from the trash can: clearly nobody from the staff bothers to look in there or care to clean it up for hours. I can't believe I willingly went to a 2.5 star restaurant. Desperate times called for desperate measures and because it was already pretty late, Broadway Diner was one of the only options. We got an order to go to bring back to our hotel. As expected and honestly why I think diner's ultimately don't serve the best food, you could order literally anything. The menu was 12 pages, full of your favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. I opted for a basic pesto chicken panini, which comes with fries AND onion rings! It took about 15 minutes for them to prepare everything, and we were on our way. My sandwich honestly wasn't as bad as I originally thought. The flavors were tolerable, although it was a huge mess to eat. The pesto oil got all over the sandwich and my hands, and the filling kept spilling out over the sides. Napkins were futile, and I accepted the fact my hands were out of commission for the remainder of the meal. The fries were also just meh. The onion rings were too soggy and soft that I didn't bother eating the breading after the first one. ***EDIT*** lost a star due to a stale bun on a burger, 16 ounces of ice cubes in a 20 ounce tumbler, and soggy onion rings. The huge pickle saved the day. This diner is a spin-off of the one in Bayonne (of the same name but actually located on Broadway, hence the name origin). It is definitely the sibling that got the larger share of the inheritance: updated decor and a fresh look with some obligatory kitsch throw in for atmosphere, maybe catering to the Summit location and its attendant culture. In any case, the food translates well across the 15 mile distance from its mothership. You get a hefty plate of food, bottomless cups of coffee, and that unique tableside manner intrinsic to NJ diners. Came here because our car broke down on our return trip to New York back from Delaware River Tubing. This restaurant is nearby the car repair shop. Tired and hungry and this was the first restaurant after we picked up our car rental. There is a wall hanging, 'Life is short, eat dessert first'. Cute! Prime rib - 4 stars. Asked for rare and it came out perfect. It was juicy and sweet. Good value for $13. Fish and chip - 4 stars. Fish looked burnt on the outside but the meat was delicious. Came with waffle fries and the tartar sauce was good. $10 for 2 big pieces of fish. My usual, eggs with sausages - 3 stars. Eggs were a bit burnt on the bottom. Home fries were bland, forgot to add salt? Coffee was hot but not the best. I most likely will not visit this area and restaurant again. But if I live nearby, I will be back for their prime rib. read more

Consistently good diner-food. The french dip sandwich has always been good here, with no skimping on the meat. The au jus is salty but fits well with the sandwich. Their French Onion soup wasn't too enjoyable in my opinion as the onions weren't chopped up, so I was getting full rings of onion all together in my soup which wasn't very drinkable/edible. Their gyro has also been pretty good with their tzakziki sauce being nice and garlicky. I think their pancakes are actually quite good. Some meals are definitely better than others here, but the ones I've had have been consistently good and it's difficult to find a good casual place this around the area. In all my years of living I have never felt so disrespected in an establishment. The workers at this restaurant are so rude and make the paying customers extremely uncomfortable. When we walked in, the hostess was visibly irritated that we were there. She ignored us and once we were seated we weren't even acknowledged for 25 minutes. This whole experience from start to finish lasted over an hour and 45 minutes. It is unacceptable and unprofessional. I only come here after going to the climbing gym. The waiter tonight was super chill and nice. He tried to give me a to go on my omelette but I destroyed it much to his surprise.
