After reading the mixed reviews, we were a bit skeptical. However, this restaurant is located in Georgetown, and there are not many 'make from scratch' type restaurants here! We thought the service was exceptional! Marciano took very good care of us. We have diet restrictions and needed to ask very detailed questions - no problem! John, one of the chefs, came out to answer all our questions and ensure the meal would be perfect for us. The meal itself? Very good overall. My son chose the scallops and thought they were delicious (they looked it too!). My husband had the redfish and enjoyed it. I had the half chicken - and I have to say - the skin was SO crispy!! My son ended up stealing most of my skin! The chicken itself was moist - perfectly cooked. My only slight ding was that the skillet potatoes needed to be cooked and browned further - but I didn't bring this up as everything else was perfect! Oh - and the fries are hand cut thin shoestrings which were crispy (I got even with my son and stole some!) and delicious! We'll definitely be back!! New restaurant in the Sheraton Conference Center opened 5 months. We went to Brix and Ale only as we live in the area. Reservations were made on Open Table, a real plus in Georgetown! There is free parking in the hotel garage which is connected to the hotel so no need to go outside if the weather is bad. The hotel front desk was well staffed, pleasant and chatty when we asked for directions to the restaurant (it is downstairs). We were seated quickly, menus on the table and Dana, the waitress, serviced us fairly promptly throughout the meal. We order 2 great martinis with the Goat Cheese app which was delicious. Our entrees consisted of the shrimp/grits and salmon with asparagus as a side. All good portions and nicely seasoned. We shared the Red Velvet cheesecake which was very creative and yummy! A couple of side comments: the plates, silver and glass ware were a step above most restaurants. A busboy would be a good add but the staff did act as a team and helped each other. Background music would be nice. Our table was a banquette type and out table was easily moved during our meal, so rubber feet would be a nice add. If you are a Starwood member, be sure to show them your card when you pay your bill as you get points even without a hotel stay. The hotel is nicely decorated and ample room for groups of guests with luggage. The restaurant is tastefully appointed with dark walls and comfy seating and several different areas. We went on a Friday night in December and it was about 80% full. The staff appeared handled it fine. We will definitely be back again to try the patio dining! read more

The food was great. I loved the fact the skillet potatoes had three varieties of cut potatoes. The French toast was good but not blow your taste buds back good. Service was very slow. There was only three tables in the restaurant and the amount of time to receive my drink and to cash out was unacceptable. The bar service last night was great. We were here on a Sunday evening right before the restaurant opened, so we stopped at the lounge first. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. We didn't have to compete with any events so there was no overload in the kitchen. Our server was also very friendly and helpful. We both opted for the Brix and Ale Burger, and it was the best hamburger we have had in the Austin/Georgetown area. Maybe ever, since The Hollow took theirs off their menu. The other entrees seemed moderately priced, and they use Gulf shrimp. We'll definitely make this one of our frequent stops. read more

Honestly I was quite disappointed- I had high hopes walking into the place- it is new, posh, and clean. Great decor with nice porch to sit on. We started out by getting a waiter who was extremely slow- we were not in a hurry, but it was still painfully slow. Keep in mind this was during happy hour when there were about 4 other people in the whole place. Drinks took 10ish minutes to come out, but were decently crafted. During happy hour everything is about $1 off, but that leaves all cocktails around $9-12. We decided to stay and have a nice dinner- got the chefs cheese board ($16) (meat was nicely arranged, but cheese was cubed as if on a cheap cheese tray from the grocery store). We got no explanation of what was on the tray. Then came my crab cake salad ($13)and my friends barbecue brisket sandwich ($14). My salad was acceptable, but I did examine the crab cakes to see if they were made of imitation crab meat (definitely no jumbo lump in those things), and the brisket sandwich came out looking like the brisket came pre-sliced from a plastic package at a bad grocery store. For the prices at this place I would expect more, and the poor service put it over the edge. One would expect waiters that were trained and quizzed about the menu and wine/cocktail menu at a place this level. Don't waste your time here. read more

Food mediocre at best for the price. Our waitress was also the bartender. We sat in main dining area, not bar. Naturally and through no fault of her own, wait time between drinks, appetizer, main course, etc was horribly long. Waiters around us continually servicing their tables. We were not so fortunate. We went there for lunch as a staff. I warn you to never do this with your staff unless you have a lot of time on your hands. We went in and got seated and it took 10 minutes for the server to come and take our drink order. It took another 15 minutes for the drinks to come out. Once the server brought us our drinks he walked away and left us waiting to place our order for another 10 minutes. We finally place our order and wait.....and wait...and wait....for 45 minutes until our food finally came out. It was salads and sandwiches mind you. We also had to get up and bring a glass that had lipstick on it to the server. While the food was great, the service was some of the worst service I have ever had to endure. At the end of the meal, we finally (after another 20 minute wait) got our checks. When he brought them back, he just dumped them on the table, said thank you for coming and walked off while we went through to find our own checks in the pile. WORST SERVICE EVER!!! read more

Ordered turkey wrap and it came with chicken tortilla soup. Found a chicken skin piece in the soup. We also had crab cakes found a shell piece in one of the cakes. We are locals and want the restaurant to do well but the kitchen needs HELP. My fish was very good. Two ladies ordered steak med. rare and they arrived over done. The salmon dish was overcooked and tough. The ribs were dry and bland. The salmon was replaced with a proper job of cooking. The ladies waited 45 minutes for their replacement steaks and finally left the table with no meal! The manager's only concession was to take the steaks off the bill! The food was great as was the service. However after the four of us had finished dinner (appetizers, entrees, desserts) the manager came over and started busing our table as we sat and chatted. Took our drinks, etc. When I asked if we were staying too long, as it seemed we must be to warrant this, she said no that they just don't like tables sitting there with dirty dishes. Have been to Brix and Ale numerous times. The first time was right after the Sheraton hotel Georgetown opened. Saying maybe growing pains. But each visit, the service hasn't gotten better, it has gotten worse each time. Tonight's visit was the reason my wife and I will not choose to spend our eating out dollar at the Sheraton Georgetown. The common thing that I've heard was " I'm sorry". I waited in the restaurant bar area to talk with the manager on duty and they never came back out of the back. I went to the front desk to ask if there was a comment card to fill out and was told no. The gentleman at the frontdesk was attentive and listened to me, but again the same reply-" I'm sorry". Well I'm not a traveler as I live next door to the hotel, but I've chosen to visit the restaurant at The Sheraton on numerous occasions. We will not go there again until the management fixes the problem. read more

Only reason this place gets one star is that their drinks were okay. Dined on Saturday around 6pm. First thing waitress complained about her night. Seems the folks at one of her tables decided to leave before their order was served. We ordered drinks and they came about 30 minutes later. Then 30 minutes or so after that the waitress took our order and proceeded to tell us that they were out of shrimp so none of those dishes were available. A couple of us ordered a burger and asked them to be cooked medium well. They were dry and burnt. When our waitress asked about our food we told her it was unacceptable and she asked us we wanted them redone. Based on the time it took the first time around we declined. She then went to manager and asked to take the burgers off the bill. When we got the bill one burger had been taken off but not the other. When we complained she said the manager had agreed to remove only one. We complained again and she went back to tell him and he finally agreed to remove both burgers. We had high hopes for this place based on some previous reviews but won't go back again or recommend to others. I guess you always take a risk when you dine in a hotel. read more

Sounded like a unique Austin eatery. We were looking for somewhere new and different. As it turns out this is a hotel restaurant--with hotel priced menu. I must say the hamburger was one of the best I've had but the shrimp tacos left me searching for shrimp. It took a very long time to get our order and there were only three other tables working. I made a 10:45 am reservation for a Mother's Day breakfast buffet. When I made the reservation, I was told that the Mother's Day Brunch was $55 per person and they had no openings until 3:00 pm, so I opted for a 10:45 am reservation for the breakfast buffet. When we arrived and gave the Brix and Ale receptionist my name and the time of our reservation, I was told that they could no longer provide the breakfast buffet because they decided to close breakfast down at 10:30 am on that day in preparation for the Mother's Day brunch, which was to begin at 11:00 am. What???? Do they not look at pending reservations before they make a decision like that? My reservation was meaningless. They said they could not honor it. The manager finally seated us - probably to just get us out the way of the other guests that were now lined up behind us for the start of the 11:00 brunch. But when the waiter came to our table, he had no idea (as expected) what was going on with our reservation, but said he would check (again) with the manager and the kitchen staff to see what could be done. The waiter eventually came back back to our table to tell us they could not offer us anything. I would have thought as an expression of goodwill (since we did have a valid reservation and we were already seated at a table), they would have offered the brunch to us at the breakfast buffet rate. But that did not happen. We left the restaurant (feeling like they had no interest in us or our business) after we wasted about 45 minutes there with no meal and very disappointed on what was supposed to be a special day. I have never been to a restaurant that would not honor its reservations. There is simply no valid excuse for this to happen. The Sheraton is one place I am definitely writing off of my restaurant list in Georgetown. There are too many places in the area that sincerely want, deserve and need your business - and don't disregard a reservation!. Goodbye Sheraton!!! read more

Based on some of the reviews and what sounded like a wonderful menu, my wife and I decided to enjoy their Christmas brunch. What a disappointment! While they seemed to have all the necessary parts in place, the overall execution fell far short of our expectations. We arrived a few minutes before our 1pm reservation only to find that a large number of parties had also made reservations at that time, so we had to wait for about 20 minutes. When we were seated, we waited at the table so a waiter could take our drink orders, but after 10 minutes, we decided to dive into the buffet. The food offerings were extensive, but many of the steam trays were empty, and a lot of the food was only warm. The ham and the prime rib at the carving station were both overcooked and tough. We went back to our tables, and about halfway through our meal were finally greeted by a waiter. He served our drinks, and that was about it- our menus were still on the table when we paid our tab.
