In January 2023, I was scammed by Brinks home security (Skyline). I was previously a satisfied ADT customer. Someone called me saying they were from ADT and needed to upgrade my system to a newer 5G system because mine was old. My phone's caller ID said "ADT" which is the only reason I answered the call. A man came to my house with an ADT badge with his picture on it. Once in my home, he said ADT was going out of business and was being taken over by Brinks security. He conned me into signing a new contract with Brinks with lies and false representation. It was a very long contract that he had me sign on an ipad that I could not read through. He said it was for the new upgraded panel. After, I was being charged through Brinks and ADT still. ADT informed me they didn't know who he was and that none of what he said was true. For the last 2 and a half years Brinks has refused to allow me to cancel my contract, stating I would be charged for a full 5 year contract regardless. The person who misrepresented themselves as ADT cut my ADT wires, took my previous 2 cameras from them, gave me one that he had on him and said they would be sending me another one. They have NEVER sent a second camera. This is a breach of their contract. My security system has not been functioning since May 13, 2025. They still have not sent a technician to fix it and said they cannot till September. However, they continue to charge me for a non functioning system. They will not cancel my service despite numerous requests. I have paid my balance in full and they still will not allow me to cancel even though I know I am no longer under contract. Paid over $600 in equipment and had them install on every window/door in my 5009sf home. I have brinks in both my homes. They installed the sensor on my door crooked and it fell off and broke as soon as I opened the door. Hell The doorbell doesn't even work since they changed it out. This service is HORRIBLE. I was coerced to switch when AT&T left home security and I shoudve went with my gut and NOT signed up. The hardware (cameras and keypad) are GARBAGE. The Doorbell cam NEVER worked and took 6 months to get a replacement after stalking Brinks' social media for a resolution. Still does not work properly. I am cancelling today and if they dodge or duck me like other cancelling customers, I will cancel my Amex and have a new card issued. What an expensive A nightmare! This review is about one sales employee, Tony Hamacher. Beware of this person. We are new to the area and he showed up at our door 3 days after we moved in. We were interested in a security system so we let him in. He went through his sales pitch, we liked the system but were hesitant about the cost. He said something like ,let us put it in at no cost. If you do not like it within 90 days, I will come take it out and it will cost you nothing. He indicated if we did keep it, there would be a two year contract. Well, Brinks called. We found out there is no 2 year contract, it was three years and the trial period was only 3 days, not 90 days. After some heavy complaining by my wife to Brinks, they agreed to take out the system. Absolutely the worst alarm service I 'be ever experienced. Customer service is horrible. We tried cancelling the service back in June. However, they kept charging us up until October. The company makes it impossible to cancel the service: 1. You have to call and request the cancellation. 2. Another department is supposed to send you an email with a letter you need to sign. 3. If they get your email wrong (because they do not use the one on file or bother to check what you have on file), you won't get the letter. 4. Time keeps passing and if you do not receive the email, you need to call back. It is IMPOSSIBLE to cancel. Do not get this company's services. It is NOT a reliable business. read more

Description of complaint: I canceled my service in January of 2023 and didn't notice that they continued charging me until June. I contacted billing and they apologized. They acknowledged that the account had been notated as canceled. They said that I had never signed the cancellation documents. I wasn't aware that there were documents. When passed to the head manager, Jennifer, she said that it was my fault, and she would not issue a refund because I didn't sign the cancellation documents that were emailed to me. I asked her when were these documents sent and could she forward it. She said it would take 48 hours to process, 24 hours if they expide it. If it was already sent why would it take so long to send. Where is the proof that it was sent. I never received this email. I called back and asked another agent about said email, and he said they sent it to the wrong email, even though they have my correct email. They made the mistake, and they won't resolve the issue. I canceled service with Brinks in December of 2022. I just realized today they are charging me monthly. I called and they informed me when I canceled I was supposed to get an email to fill out to cancel, I had 48 hours to advise them I didn't get the email. In light of this I am responsible for the payments for the last 7 months. This is the biggest scam right in your face I've ever seen. They did not send the cancelation email. They count on you not remembering you need an email that may not come for days. I would never do business with a company like this. When I said well you clearly see I cancels in December of 22 , she said that's not how it works you should have called to tell us you didn't get the email. We signed up with an alarm company (protection One) when we bought the house. 5 year contract at $39.99/mo Cool. Well Brinks bought out Protection One (we initially were not aware) about a year later. That's when the problems started. Raised our monthly rate (remember we had a 5 year contract) false alarms (when the system was disarmed) charged us for false alarms, equipment upgrades costing us 100's of $$, doorbell cam not working, then we noticed we were paying $55/mo. When I called about this they first said--"oops" we made a mistake. Then supervisor says it's the cost of operating, blah, blah. I said "we have a contract for $39.99/mo?" Their response was they could raise rates as per the contract. Huh? Oh, BTW we never signed a contract with Brinks. . Finally had enough and moved to ADT last month. They pulled out all the brinks equipment. 2 months in and works great. Last night we get a call from Brinks saying they are showing an alarm? Even sent "security guard" to check it out. The absolute WORST in SECURITY! I had Monotronics and somehow the contract 5 year contract $81/mo got sold to these clowns. They wouldn't let me out of the contract. People come out take picture and leave and I get charged $80. They didn't check and see if everything was ok, nothing coke up to door, snap picture and leave! I said ok, I'll ride out my 5 year contract but please cancel when it's done since I'll be out of the country and have waited for more than 2 hours attempting to speak with an associate. They said I have to call a certain day or the contract would renew? For one I didn't sign a contract with these criminals/crooks. They are completely in the wrong. i would not recommend this service company , i had a false alarm ask them not to come and they still sent someone out , 2hours later , and charged me. I also noticed several times when you have a balance due they will randomly set off the panel in your house ; when you go to the panel nothings wrong , no low batteries etc , this is a form of harrassment, also the system is not there for there personal use . read more

WORST security company. I've given them so many chances over the years, they just down right SUCk!!! No customer service, supervisors who are afraid to handle a phone call, so you have to wait on hold till a supervisor advises the employee what to say or not to say. I've had both my restaurants and houses with this crap company for over 10 years but it all changed today. I made an appointment for additional equipment a month ago. Today they emailed (no call, conversation...) to notify me that my appointment in 2 days was cancelled and rescheduled till 10/18. NOT ACCEPTABLE! They ordered the wrong equipment and now I'm to wait 2 months total for an appointment. So I'm to feel "safe and secured" with a company so mismanaged as this one?!?!? This security system is crap. You walk right up to the camera and press a button to take it offline. The so-called security alert feature is worthless. Please don't expect it to notify you in a timely manner. It will take 2-3 minutes to get that alert. If it breaks, you have to pay for the service call on top of the highly misleading monitoring and maintenance bill. The "system " appears to be several unrelated off-the-shelf devices cobbled together with a very poorly written cloud and phone app integration. It's homebrew with a Fiverr UI. Stick with ADT, Vivint, or anything except these charlatans. read more

Do not trust any of the "3rd party techs" they will tell you that Brinks Alarm Co will overcharge you for a camera and that he/they have a camera in the company van for $100 bucks cheaper. You give the tech whom you believe is a legit Brink's employee (not a 3rd party) to only get your bill and have the charge for camera after giving the tech cash. When you try to call and dispute undoubtley the tech denies it and unfortunately you're out of your money. Brinks does not care about their customers. read more

Horrible company and terrible customer service! I was a customer with Monitronics and Brinks bought them out so I was automatically switched. My system went out August 28th and set up an appointment for Sept. 6th. no one called or came to my home for the appointment. This not being the first time dealing with poor customer service I cancelled my account on the 6th. They sent papers to sign and they were returned to them on the 8th, the same day I received them. I was then charged for the month of Sept, I called to have it refunded and Nila with CS said it will be reversed. It wasn't. Then in Oct. they billed me again for a third of the month. I spoke with Ikea and Kevin and they could not do anything about it. I will be filing with the BBB now that I'm seeing multiple people are being charged well beyond their terminated date. read more

I was with Brinks for 5 years never had an issue with anything. Finally, we encountered a problem they sent a technician out, but not before coaxing me into signing a contract extension. I figured everything has been smooth for 5 years and we are very low maintenance people so why not? I was out of town when the technician arrived to service the system. The technician was rude, condescending, sloppy, and dismissive toward my wife in our home. In addition, he did not complete the work he was there for which was to update my equipment. He left 3 batteries on the table and told my wife to figure it out. The same error messages we had before he came are still there now. When I called to follow up the folly of errors continued through their customer service team who wanted to charge me for another visit. Everything is good when its good, (5 years auto payments no service calls) But the moment I needed them, the one time I did in 5 years they made a mockery of customer service and process execution. 4 weeks ago I had to replace my router. I couldn't get me cameras to work. I then brought in a person much more IT smarter than I. He was able to get one camera working after a hour. After much back and forth I made a service call appointment 3 weeks out. I waited for the service call on 8/9, but the service man was a no call no show. I had to call to find out that the service man was injured on the job and I wouldn't be getting service. I'm currently on hold with their "Customer Service," and have been on hold for 1 hour and 40 minutes so far, having spoken with one person (David) after 1 hour 10 minutes on hold, who was not able to help me, and put me back on hold to wait for someone else. I was looking for another security service because brink raised my rate because I learned they bought out montronics another security company I was with. I had panel problems call the brinks company they couldn't do anything about it. Then Vivint came threw and sold me on a great system paid my balance off of 1200 dollars affordable I don't think so. So when I thought my canceling was over and done with they email you saying why do you want to leave or telling me I owe 75.44. So I called the customer service trying to resolve it. The security system and technology is solid, however the sales and business practices of Brinks, specifically for allowing companies like CRS, Lic. 56107 to do business on their behalf. They are great at selling a product that is supposed to provide you security and peace of mind and in reality it is sub par and requires troubleshooting almost yearly and constantly goes off line. Had this company for over 3 yrs and every time they point at the internet service and then end up changing their equipment and it works. After explaining to a tech that the equipment wasn't working well he basically said it is what it is. I was shocked that they don't have pride in their product as techs but the salesmen think it's the best in the world. Had a whole week of no service when out of town and then it starts to work. Even had a sensor go bad when out of town and it set off the alarm and it must have been going off for at least an hour and no one responded. Do not make the mistake that my wife and I made. Do NOT sign a contract with Brinks. My wife and I are moving. We have been with Brinks for many years. Basically, their motto should be: you can check out any time you like, but you can NEVER leave. Impossible to cancel our account with them. We are paying them month to month. They auto withdraw monthly from our checking account. Our logon info suddenly does not work, and when I try to reset my password, the reset email never comes. They put us on hold for HOURS. After which they beg us not to cancel. but finally agree to send us a cancellation notice via email that NEVER comes. All the while, they keep billing our account, monthly, and even raised our rate. First I'll start with a good Brinks technology is awesome, I believe it's off the old alarm.com system but their keypads sensors and cameras are top-notch and very very quick. If you like their tech go for Brinks. But I'm going to give you a fair warning, caveat emptor. Their customer service , call response and their scheduling department are the worst on planet earth. If you don't mind clueless people, long wait times on the phone, and broken promises, Brinks is your company. If you go with Vivint or ADT you're gonna spend a lot more money, but at least you might get a better response. Once the system is in, it is excellent and I'm very happy with them. Our contract ended and after a month of trying to contact someone in customer service to inform Brinks that we will not be renewing the contract, I was placed on perma-hold for over an hour each time and then told they needed to transfer me to someone else to end the contract. I finally received the paperwork I needed to fill out to not renew the service. I looked at my bank statement and brinks has charged us once again. Shoddy service, equipment, don't do it.
