Brussels sprouts
Amy J.

Sunny side pizza was delicious. Perfect egg and meat mix. Brussels sprouts were perfectly crispy and moderately spicy. My cocktails were unique and tasty as well. The avocado carrot cake was beautiful but not the best I've ever had. It was moist enough and had good flavor but not sure what avocado contributed as it didn't taste of avocado or have any sort of extra smooth creamy anything other than a drizzle that was green.

Chic space with dimly lit tables and a lively atmosphere, "Brightside" caught our attention as a date night destination. And while the cocktails were creative and the vibes were immaculate, the food left something to be desired. Honestly, it just wasn't that good. The best part was the fries and assortment of mayos. The bucatini with peaches and mushrooms sounded promising but was flavorless. We also got pork belly and risotto, and don't get me wrong the pork belly was delicious (perfectly charred) but the risotto it came on was undercooked and needed salt. Reading previous reviews maybe this was an off night, so I'd go back. But for us, the meal missed the mark. Seemed like the kind of place that values ambience over food, which is fine for some but we left disappointed . 3/5 stars

Our group of 9 had a very nice brunch at Bright Side. The restaurant is designed beautifully, very cool and colorful decor, lots of room. Our service and food were great. Everyone enjoyed their brunch food choice, and the drinks were delicious. I tried the Cro-waffle sandwich with frites, and the cinnamon roll, very good! The only thing I would changes is less salt on the frites but the fresh garlic was so good. My drink choice of the Queen Bee was a good one, not too sweet and delicious. Plenty of vegetarian or vegan options. Will be back to Bright Side again, overall great experience! They made us feel very welcome!

"It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen." What is Bright Side? Is it the sparkly vibey cocktail bar and restaurant it claims to be? Or a dark and loud sports bar with pulsing electronic music? Why not both? We made reservations for Saturday night and it was packed and crowded when we arrived. We were seated next to a column by the bar and it was very dark, could not read the menu, and extremely loud (conversations and music). We asked for the bone marrow croquettes but it was not available. Instead, we ordered the Tiger Prawns (calabrian chili & ramp salsa, preserved lemon broth, prawn chips). My companion said the prawns had a strong fishy flavor and I thought the texture was mushy. We also thought the prawn chips were an odd accompaniment. We told our server and she said she would tell the kitchen because it was a new dish and they wanted the feedback. I ordered the pancetta wrapped scallops (asparagus tartare, mirin & pea veloute, flying fish roe) which was overly salty. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and generally the dish was good, but a lighter hand with the salt was needed. I loved the fish roe, but because it was so dark, I didn't know it was part of my dish. My companion ordered Chicken Katsu (napa cabbage & broccoli slaw, szechuan cucumber salad, kimchi mayo, sesame, scallion) and after tasting their dish, I thought the roe was from theirs. The chicken was very crispy and its sides were flavorful. The crowd thinned out a little, the music toned down, and the atmosphere changed to more of a supper club. On our server's recommendation we tried the Carrot Avocado cake (fluffy carrot and avocado cake, vegan golden raisin buttercream, pistachios, vanilla-coconut turmeric glaze). This was pretty good -- not overly sweet and the plump raisins and crunch of pistachios were nice textures. The cake was soft and lightly spiced. So to look on the Bright Side: pretty setting, locally sourced ingredients, everything made from scratch, friendly staff. They also subtracted the prawn shrimp from the bill without us asking and thanked us for the feedback.

Espresso Martini and Bellini

We came for brunch on a Saturday with a reservation but it didn't seem like we needed one. There were folks dining in but there were still tons of tables open. It's a beautifully designed space. Really nice lighting, chairs, and even the ceiling! To start, I got a Bellini while my friend got an espresso martini. Delicious! We also shared latkes as our appetizer. They were well seasoned too! And large! For entrees, my friend got the French toast with sausage while I got the lobster eggs Benedict. Her French toast was basically bratwurst style...not at all what we expected based on the menu description. It was good, but the menu was misleading. My Benedict was absolutely BLAND! Disappointing :( I did like the fries and the portions for what you got were actually generous. I was full for hours! The staff is really nice and I liked the vibe of the restaurant. It would be a great place to get cocktails before dinner. Parking around here is parallel and a bit tough to find on a weekend. But we managed to park a few blocks away.

Stopped in for a quick drink on a Friday. Heard great things about the cocktails... but this was by far the worst old fashioned I've ever had. I even asked them to make it a second time because I was sure they gave me the wrong drink. Overall the place is nicely decorated and clean, and the prices are just ok.

Love the renovation of the old Bar Cento space... (I do feel nostalgic for Bar Cento!)... cocktails are top notch and the bartenders very knowledgeable and friendly. They're very into Mescal and they do a nice job with lot of different kinds. We haven't eaten here yet apart from the award-winning carbonara breakfast pizza (a holdover from Bar Cento for those who remember it)... atmosphere leans chic, fun place. We've been back a few times and will be going back in the future...

waitress was soo sweet and helpful. espresso martinis were perfect and the spicy chicken pizza was yummy!! super cutie spot for dinner as well

You call this a margherita pizza? Very disappointed was all bread no sauce and looked undercooked. Parsley instead of basil. But espresso martinis were good.

I'm glad I finally checked this spot out. The interior is very stylish and modern. I loved their curated cocktail menu with lots of fun choices. I went with the salmon bowl which was very good. The salmon was cooked perfectly. There is a private room towards the back that would be perfect for a small gathering

Atmosphere is a teen on a a nice day when the doors are wide open. Food menu is good but limited especially if you are a picky eater. The salmon flat bread pizza was delicious but not overwhelming. Drinks are unique and exciting however quite small... three sips and ready for another

Cavatelli pasta de mare
Sabrine A.

The vibe of this place was so cool with the disco ball and the chic interior but also very vintage like ceiling architecture. There's also a club downstairs that looked pretty cool! The songs were all throwbacks playing in the restaurant which was such a vibe! The food was absolutely amazing, ordered the cavatelli de mare and the seafood was out of this world. It took awhile for our server to give us our check when we were wanting to leave but all in all I'd come back.

Pommes Frites (French fries) with ketchup and aiolis: garlic, spicy chili and curry.

No notes. Best part of the meal. In hindsight, I wish our entire meal was apps. For entrees, we ordered the burger box and corned lab with sides of green beans and burnt carrots. All of this was fine. I wasn't blown away by any of it. The sides were enormous, and this was too much food for two people (I'll take the blame for ordering too much, lol). What was off-putting was our waiter's behavior. He wouldn't make eye contact with me, was borderline rude and preferentially interacted with my (male) dining partner. I noticed. My dining partner noticed. It earned a big WTF reaction from me and kind of put a damper on the dinner. The apps were good, but everything else was pretty mid. There's so many permutations of this type of restaurant that I wouldn't go back, and I would take my business elsewhere next time I'm in Cleveland.

The Rowley Inn is located in a nice neighborhood (Tremont) across the street from the Christmas Story house. I had three meals there. The first, loaded pierogis, was the ultimate comfort dish. Pierogis with potato centers were covered in diced kielbasa, bacon (yes, bacon), and covered in cheddar cheese. Ahhhhh. The others at my table raved about the kielbasa and pierogi dish. They also liked the beer selection. How do you know you have a great find? You think about the meal long after it is consumed. Next meal- breakfast. I had the kielbasa and pierogi omelet. Need I say more? Finally, we came back a third time and I ordered the burger. No burger place (save Chuckbox in Tempe, AZ) can match the Rowley burger. The burger is actually seasoned and cooked to order. I had it medium rare. Sheer perfection. Typing this review makes me sad because I live far away from Cleveland. We started with the bacon-wrapped tater tots after hearing they were one of the things you HAVE to try. Whoever decided a tater tot needed to be wrapped in bacon and deep fried deserves some recognition. Crispy, salty, ridiculously good and absolutely worth ordering. And the doing sauce was INCREDIBLE. I got the four-cheese mac & cheese and of course added bacon and loved it. My boyfriend spotted the chicken paprikash hoagie on the menu and there was pretty much zero chance he was ordering anything else after that. When it came out, we realized he probably needed an actual strategy for eating it because the thing was massive. It was loaded with chicken, peppers and onions in a really flavorful paprikash sauce. Messy? A little. Worth it? Absolutely. He finished the whole thing. Really cool neighborhood-bar atmosphere, great food and portions that definitely don't leave you hungry. Being directly across from the Christmas Story House makes the location even better. We'll definitely be back because there were way too many other things on the menu we wanted to try.

Instead, the whole thing felt a little less "we care about what we feed people" and a little more "we would like you to know that we food better than you." There is a weird food elitism to the branding that would be much easier to swallow if the actual food backed it up. Unfortunately, for the price, mine absolutely did not. The menu talks a very big game about clean ingredients, non-GMO everything, special oils, organic this and carefully sourced that, but at some point the food still has to taste good. Healthy food does not need to be boring food, and expensive food definitely should not be boring food. I left feeling like I had paid a premium for the philosophy of my meal rather than the meal itself. To be fair, our server was incredibly sweet. She was warm and lovely and was easily the best part of the experience, so none of this is a criticism of the service. I was also genuinely surprised to see balloons being used as gifts for kids. Maybe that sounds nitpicky, but when a restaurant markets itself so heavily around wellness, conscious choices, vegan options and doing food "better," disposable balloons feel bizarrely off-brand. You cannot sell me environmental-adjacent food virtue and then using gimmicks like a 6 year olds birthday at Applebee's. That was kind of the theme of TownHall for me: a lot of messaging about being thoughtful, elevated and health-conscious, without enough substance behind it to justify either the attitude or the bill. Cleveland has too many restaurants making genuinely interesting vegetarian and vegan food for me to pay this much just to be lectured by a menu. Sweet server. Great location. Lots of dietary options on paper. But for the price? The food needed to be a whole lot better than "at least it's non-GMO."
