    $10 popovers
    Amy J.

Delicious unique and artisanal small plates in a fine dining atmosphere. Fried chicken livers were perfectly crispy and had a highly complementary couple of sweet cherries and bacon pieces on the bottom. The Parisian potatoes were basically hash brown balls with an interesting sort of smoky cumin tasting barbecue sauce? The mushroom tartlets were both adorable and delicious. Lightly savory little quiche type pies. The popovers were beautiful and flavorful as well. Nice and lightly crispy with a delicious strawberry jam. The baked Alaska was beautiful and flavorful. Lots of pistachios and delicious ice cream within. The kiln #2 was a very sweet tequila Serrano pepper drink. No real spice but lots of sugar and unique flavor to that degree. Incredible smoothness.

Came on a Saturday night for dinner. Walked in a little before 5pm and was seated immediately. Ordered the popovers, mushroom tartlets, braised beef meatballs, stuffed cabbage, and baked alaska. It was the first time I ever had poppers and it certainly won't be the last. I loved the airy buttery bread and it came with butter and jam--great starter. I can see why the mushroom tartlets are popular, flavorful with a good mixture of textures. The braised beef meatballs ($18) were tender, well-seasoned. The stuffed cabbage ($24) was interesting and sharable (4 pieces). The baked alaska ($19) was also a first for me. It was very aesthetically pleasing with the torched meringue and I loved seeing all of the layers-meringue, ice cream, berry, cake . Definitely a dish worthy for celebratory occasions. They were all great dishes. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the braised beef meatballs. But honorable mention is the baked alaska for its impressive appearance. Service was fantastic--friendly and very attentive. At the end we got two small oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, compliments of the kitchen--loved them! Parking available via street parking or at Van Aken parking garage (free). Definitely will consider coming back.

I wanted to try this restaurant out in the Van Aken district. We ended up going Saturday night, and it wasn't too difficult to find parking with a lot and a parking garage nearby. I was able to call the restaurant about 30 minutes before getting there to make a reservation so that was definitely a little surprising. After getting there, we were seated pretty quickly and met our hostess. We started out with some drinks after getting recommendations. I got a Kiln No. 7 and my girlfriend got a Kiln No. 6. We also got Stuffed Cabbage, Ricotta Dumplings, and PEI Mussels. Kiln No. 6 (3/5): My girlfriend's drink wasn't the best for me. It had an odd cinnamon aftertaste. If you know me, I don't really like cinnamon. Kiln No. 7 (5/5): I enjoyed this drink. It was sweet but it was also tart. Ricotta Dumplings (4/5): The dumplings were nice and dense and could easily mop up the lemon pesto sauce. For me, it was way too bright and lemony. My girlfriend seemed to enjoy it though. I could probably eat an entire tray of this. Stuffed Cabbage (4/5): The filling was nice and the dish was cooked properly. I just wish we had more for what we paid for. Mussels (4/5): The broth was divine. Honestly, I could eat a bowl of that with the bread. We both thought the char was nice as it added some flavor, but were disappointed that it was tough. It made it very difficult to enjoy the mussels. I wasn't even able to cut it with my silverware. We also received a postcard and chocolate chip cookies at the end of our meal. We enjoyed our experience here, and plan to visit the other restaurants owned by this group - Zhug and Amba.

This time our experience was average. Now, to be fair, we only tried 3 appetizers and one dessert but all 4 were average - i would put them all the category "I will try once but not worth ordering again"

Kiln was a must try with as yet another Doug Katz restaurant. While the restaurant upheld his eye for interior design and cocktails the food lacked imagination and felt like upscale versions of home cooking with not enough flare to make you leave home. The meatballs were done up ikea meatballs, with an overprocessed texture and missing taste. The vegetable tian is a fancy word for a ratatouille but the dish didn't live up to the fanciness of the name. I won't go on, the food was edible and played with texture and color as we know Katz to do best, but his keen palate for spice blends and flavors was missing from this "regional classic" theme that might have been fitting. I'd go back for the baked alaska (hands down) and cocktails, nothing more.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Kiln! The ambiance is the perfect ambiance for a romantic dinner date or a special occasion dinner. The prices are very reasonable, and their menu has a wide variety of flavors. The portions were also suprisingly generous and we left very full. We shared 6 dishes altogether, which they recommend eating family/tapas style. We loved how they focused on locally and ethically sourced ingredients. Their menu rotates so we're excited so sample new items on our next visit!

A move up slightly bigger, more American plates from the restaurant group behind Zhug and Amba. Some of the best cocktails in Cleveland in a really lovely space. Nothing is ostentatious, everything is muted and good looking. The food has highs and lows, the ricotta dumplings were fine, the popovers were one of my favorite bites of the year, the lamb and Arctic char just didn't do it for me. Service is kind and caring, but not over the top. If you want to impress this isn't the Marble room, if you're looking to save money this isn't Zhug or Amba, but if you're looking for a good meal at a decent price point this delivers.

After a tiny bit of confusion while attempting to secure a reservation we visited Kiln in Shaker Hts. on Saturday night. Upon arrival a very professional women at the door straightened out the reservation confusion and promptly seated us at a nice table in the downstairs dining room. NOTE: the website seems to indicate you can show up without a reservation. They will have seating on the second floor. However, it neglects to mention, without a reservation you will most likely be seated outside. After being seated a very pleasant young lady by the name of Helen greeted us, informed us she would be our server for the evening and proceeded to take our drink order. The wine list is quite limited in scope. As a matter of fact, it was mostly made up of California and Ohio wines. With a smattering of European offerings. Never the less, Helen was very kind and attentive. She took our order and left us a few moments to review the menu. If you enjoy the "Tapas" (sharable small plates) style of dining you will definitely enjoy this menu. The vast majority of it is made up of an array of small plates. Quite diverse in it's selections. As a matter of fact, of the 26 offerings, only 4 could be considered a true entrée. 1 chicken, 1 fish, 1 beef, and 1 lamb. Well I enjoy the sharable small plate style of dining. And we proceeded to order 10 different items from the many interesting offerings. I got so involved in the meal I only remembered to photograph 4 of them. The majority were very good. I loved the "Roasted Candy Striped Beets" as well as the "Eggs Mayonnaise"... they were marvelous. The "Braised Beef Meatballs" were very interesting. I didn't think I would enjoy a meatball made with only one type of meat but they were quite flavorful. I could have done without the "Croquettes" (dry) and the vegan "Stuffed Cabbage" (bland - no flavor). But, all in all, we had a pleasant meal. After our meal we enjoyed a strong but good cup of coffee along with the "Dark Chocolate Whipped Ganache" with raspberries, agave, and cardamom... excellent combination. Throughout the evening Helen along with her backup singers did an exemplary job. She was always there when we needed her without hovering over us. I definitely recommend you give this establishment a visit. Try as much of the menu as possible. I think you will have a positive experience. Buon appetito!

This is a Doug Katz restaurant situated on a corner. Signage is not well visible. Our friend had difficulty finding Kiln. "Kiln" is on the window glass. We walked in with the hostess, and loved the contemporary decor and high ceiling, and the overall vibe. The waiter explained that the plates were shareable. Having three people he suggested five to seven plates would be appropriate for a nice dinner. All plates were delicious and filling. The poppers were a sweet bread that was a treat. We chose the beef tips, which were large cuts. The chicken livers were crispy and delicious. The calamari was thankfully not breaded. The cabbage rolls were plentiful. The ham croquettes were good with the scalloped potatoes. Even the red blend wine was nice with our food selection. The meal ended with two bite cookies. Interesting was that the kitchen brought out the plates in an appropriate order--salads, veggies, meats. We had plenty of good food. I took a small amount of leftovers home for lunch. The restaurant has a ramp for easy accessibility. A free parking garage is across the street. Recommend for a wonderful time.

Came here for dinner on a Monday with a reservation and it was packed! We were seated promptly at a corner table. My immediate impression was that the tables were quite cramped , with the room appearing as if they tried to fit as many tables as possible. Once seated, our server came by soon after and offered us menus and help with any questions. Very friendly and attentive! The menu was expansive, but I would have to say not as many dishes piqued my interest as did the menus at Doug Katz's other restaurants. We ordered 6 dishes for our party of 2 as per our servers recommendations and left stuffed! The popovers, cabbage rolls, and steak tips were delicious! The fried chicken livers were a bit heavy and overly rich and needed something to refresh the palate a bit more between bites. I also thought the cocktail menu lacked creativity, which I guess is reasonable since the menu seems to be highlighting wines over cocktails. Overall, the dining experience was satisfying and our servers were great! The ambiance was mid, and the menu doesn't beg me to come back too soon.

We came here for Valentine's Day because of a recommendation from a friend. The restaurant was very cute inside and offered low lighting giving an intimate vibe. Perfect for a date night! Plateware was also adorable. We tried a little of everything as they have a lot of shared plates available. We also tried the baked Alaska which we heard they are known for! It was a bit sweet for my liking BUT still delicious. The broccolini had mini lemon things on it which were delicious and paired perfect with the veggie. Our server was attentive and checked on us often. If their menu rotates, we will be back to try new items...as we tried just about everything they offer.

Make a reservation, this place is still new and popular! Nice minimalist classy modern vibes. I love that they have regular tables and also some booth seatings (the booth creates more romantic vibes but also a little bit more casual and comfy which i was a huge fan of). Our absolute favorites were the popovers and mushroom tartlets. The popovers were light and airy and had a good crunch but soft inside. The buttery and jam with it was a perfect bite. Must get. The mushrooms were savory and created a perfect bite with the puff pastry and I could've eaten the whole plate myself! The ricotta dumplings are creative and I enjoy the pine nuts with it, however it really is quite dense. I was good with having tried it but probably won't order again unless I come with a big group. We didn't finish it. The squash could have had a little bit more flavor and I expected it to be more creamy but it was quite stringy which is fine but did surprise me (maybe it included the center piece of the squash) Did not enjoy the baked Alaska dessert but it was the first time I've ever tried one. The cake was rock hard and the flavors didn't seem to mesh well. I was excited to order it because of the pistachios but since the cake is half the dish we could barely eat it. Overall we enjoyed the ambiance and had great service and loved the creative menus. Will definitely come back and reorder some of the same dishes but not all.

Eight years worth of Fairmount moments later, this review is well overdue. AMBIANCE: The ambiance allows you to slow down and enjoy your company. The restaurant is dim lit, has fireplaces, and loungey atmosphere. It somehow feels warm and I heard a lot of people refer to it as a second home (people are always so friendly here!). There is ample space - three bars, main dining space, and huge outdoor oasis bar. Nestled in Cedar Fairmount neighborhood, you'll also be able to enjoy historic neighborhood. There are seating arrangements if you're craving company or want to enjoy your date. Seating options include couches by the fireplace, tables, and high tops. Fairmount is delightful during every season. During the summer you can enjoy the bar and patio. In the winter you can dine at the igloos. I prefer all seasons here. FOOD/DRINKS: The menu at Fairmount is impressive and has exciting seasonal/weekly additions. You'll never get bored. The cocktails here are refined, very boozy, and very well crafted. The food is seriously delicious, and consistent every single time. I've been impressed with every dish. The dishes and drinks frequently follow the seasons. During my latest visit I enjoyed Butter Pecan Warm Cider with bourbon ($12, so bold and boozy, tastes like fall). I also ordered Fig Trouble Little China ($15, a more rich version of Old Fashioned, so delicious). I also tasted Short Rib & Risotto for the very first time ($28, such a delicious dish, every bite was just amazing). My favorites? Ah, so hard! I'll go with the Fairmount Burger! It's angus beef burger with bacon-fig chutney. It's so delicious! I can't even be serious about meat at the other burger places, this is easily the best burger in the city. My seasonal favorite? Kevin McCallister seasonal drink that resembles coquito or eggnog. The drink is topped with rice paper that includes the design of Kevin from Home Alone. It's such a fun tradition! I look forward to this drink all year and always tell the world about it! SERVICE: The service is excellent. I haven't been anywhere where service is right on point every single time. Everyone is nice - the owner, hosts, and waitstaff. You truly feel seen and like the most important guest. I've visited previously while on dates and frequently dine here solo, always had the most pleasant service. EVENTS: Many people book events here for their non-profits or companies. As far as individual events, Fairmount hosts a fun NYE party every year! PARKING: Onsite parking lot is available at the back of the building. You can enter through the front doors on Cedar or right through the parking lot door. There are numerous reasons why I love the Fairmount. I consider it to be the best dining experience in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood of Cleveland Heights. I also love how the owner Jake is very engaged in the community and is incredibly friendly with the surrounding business owners. I'll choose this place again and again for calming ambiance, crafted cocktails, and delicious food. To many more years of Fairmount and at Fairmount!

The pork chop came without the bone, already chopped up, and was the he most tender pork chop I've had. 5/5 The carrots were so well seasoned, with a great charred taste and came with an addicting puree. 5/5 Service was fantastic, with great recommendations. While the birthday guest was away from the table, I did sneakily ask if they do anything for birthdays, and the staff said that they do a scoop of ice cream. Since the sticky toffee pudding already came with a scoop of ice cream, they were considerate to do 2 cookies instead--the cookies weren't too sweet and reminded me of brownie batter. Sticky toffee pudding was good. 4/5 Restaurant is located in Pinecrest so parking available as free parking in a garage about a block away or as pay by mobile street parking. Ambience is great, perfect for a nice meal for a date or hangout. Overall a great place to celebrate a special occasion due to all the good food choices and staff who know how to treat birthday guests well.

I called Sunday at 12:40p to make reservations for 2 to enjoy brunch. I was told by the male that…read moreanswered the phone that reservations would not be needed. I told him I would arrive within 40 mins and he said to just walk-in. The website says this is fine dining so for someone to answer the phone and discourage reservations was skeptical. When we arrived we were told since we didn't have reservations we had to sit outdoors. Now the forecast said rain in 10mins. So we told the lady at the desk that I spoke to the man that also at the door about reservations. She said no problem we waited about 10 minutes and we were seated. Our waitress Abby was amazing! I wanted a wellness drink and they were all out but she suggested other mocktail options. She then asked if we wanted tap water or sparkling bottle water. I was confused that they don't have filtered water. We got the tap and it smelled like sewer. We then asked for a bottle of sparkling water. And realized the glass cups smelled bad. If you want a wellness drink arrive early when they open around 11am. It was 1pm when I ordered my food. I ordered the Farmer's breakfast, it came with Two eggs any style, choice of crispy bacon or chicken sausage, grilled sourdough, potatoes. The potatoes were crumbs and left overs, a scoop of potatoes. For a $19 meal I couldn't believe what I was being served. The chicken sausage was amazing! The sourdough bread was grilled with no oil or butter. I asked for jelly thinking they would have compote. Instead they have mini jars of jelly. The main difference is that jam is a shelf-stable, fruit-puree preserve made with high amounts of sugar and added pectin. Compote is a chunkier, less sugary fruit sauce cooked quickly without pectin and meant to be eaten fresh. My husband had the Last Chicken Sandwich, which he said was good but the sandwich didn't come with a side just a $18 chicken sandwich that tasted wonderful.
