Wonderful cafe in a charming town. We had lunch there two days in row. The second was because I inadvertently left my credit card the first day - duh! They were so kind and put in a lot of effort to try and contact me Figured out what I had done 24 hours later and 75 miles away .... This was a really fun place to visit! It is a bit unassuming from the outside but our experience was great! Bread with olive oil and balsamic was delicious. I had a cup of the soup of the day which was good. The blackened chicken was moist and well-seasoned. Rattlesnake pasta had amazing flavor although I personally did not find it spicy at all. I would say their pasta is the best we have had in the Bowling Green area. We would pass on the calamari appetizer in the future as it was slightly overcooked. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. There is a bar in the restaurant as well and it seemed like people were enjoying it on the Friday night that we went! read more

Absolute excellent service and the tiramisu is a must. I don't really do reviews but I recently had an anniversary and the staff helped me throughout the day to plan the perfect night before arriving with my significant other. From being able to reserve the table we had our first date at to setting flowers and gifts and have the table ready for her arrival. The staff is exceptional and the often times the owner is present, he is such a kind gentleman. The all around homey mood of the dining area and the ambient lighting is all very welcoming making a perfect experience no matter the time of day. read more

Cool old building, and a pretty nice restaurant for a town this size. Excellent bartender, and a good mix of house specialty cocktails. My girlfriend had the baby back ribs, and they were good. The 3 stars came from my entree. I had the rattlesnake pasta, and while the sauce and homemade pasta were awesome, it was topped with "bubble chicken". I couldn't believe they'd go to all the trouble to make pasta and sauce from scratch, and then top it with processed chicken. I will not eat any kind of meat with bubbles in it. Guys, you have a good thing going here; don't ruin it with shortcuts like that. read more

Five Star's are rare for me to post -- but this place seemed to hit on all cylinders! The food quality & presentation was great. Flavors we're amazing. Server was spot on -- patient with us as first time guests and attentive and extra knowledgeable. Located in a historic and well preserved building downtown at the corner of the public square. Adequate parking. Some outside patio cafe tables are available. Two main sections of the restaurant -- one including the bar area. I tried the shrimp pasta dish which was excellent. My mom tried the lasagna which we all three tasted and agreed it was awesome. My wife ordered the signature chicken with a cream Sault that was very tasty. We stopped here for a late lunch while traveling northbound and decided to bypass the exit ramp restaurants -- so glad we did! read more

We stopped in between lunch and dinner and only one other table being served. Service was very attentive . We ordered two Jim beam and ginger ales, the spinach/artichoke dip and a ten inch meat lovers which had big chunks of andouille sausage, bacon and and Italian sausage and pepperoni. But before you get your food they bring out some nice warm sliced bread and pesto sauce. We were very happy with the pizza and we're very full when done. The whole bill was only $33 which with the two drinks was very fair. Ambiance is very casual with a separate dining room beside the main room with a nice bar. I got there at an early bird hour. They had a sign up in the lobby indicating to wait to be seated. After waiting a few minutes with no staff coming to greet me, I stepped into the bar and eventually flagged down the bar tender who was happy to get me seated in the regular dining area (which was empty when I arrived) and notified a server that I had been seated. The server was pleasant, knowledgeable of both the menu and the beers served from the bar, and promptly attentive. The server brought bread and oil with balsamic vinegar and some basic seasoning, a drink menu and a dinner menu. I ordered an IPA brewed from some place up the road but still in Kentucky (I'm not remembering the name that the waitress told me) the house salad with bleu cheese dressing and the blackened shrimp Mac n Cheese entree. The beer and salad came within 10 minutes. The IPA was a regular sized pint glass serving. The salad was of fair quality and basic ingredients prepared fairly nicely with basic dressing served on the side allowing me to put on as much or as little as I wished. I was almost finished with the salad about 10 minutes later when the entree arrived. The food arrived hot and fresh from the kitchen and was a larger portion of a ziti style pasta with an apparently locally crafted cheese sauce with 6 medium-large sized blackened shrimp (probably 1 oz. each). The shrimp was well-seasoned and a nice attempt at blackening. The seasoning is a little bit different than what it is typically served in Louisiana but very nicely done. The shrimp was plump, but slightly overcooked for my taste. Overall I was pleased with the experience and cost of the meal for the quality of food and service received. Though this is one experience, I am comfortable recommending this restaurant as would return to it if I was going to be a regular visitor to the area. read more

We both ordered the Rattlesnake Pasta and all I can say is wow! The portion was not what we expected, the expectations were exceeded! As a retired head chef the first thing I look for when trying a dish is to see if it needs added salt or pepper, it did not! My wife and I stopped in at Brickyard for lunch. Brickyard feels like a hole in the wall place at the entrance, but opens up to dining room and bar with high ceilings and nice decor. We sat in the dining room which was had framed artwork from local students and had a large wagon on a platform suspended from the ceiling. There was a wine rack high on the wall that had been empty for some time as dust was beginning to pile up. From what I was able to see of the bar, it was well stocked with a good variety of bottles. I noticed a good selection of bourbon, including a bottle of the local distilleries offering. To start with the good, the lunch menu was small, but had a good selection. My wife was happy to see peach tea on the menu. We were served Italian bread and oil/balsamic. The bread seemed to have been rolled and baked on a sheet pan to be baked, but was not allowed to develop a crust. Now the bad. As an appetizer we ordered the fried calamari. I understand Franklin KY is nowhere near the ocean, but even for frozen, pre prepared calamari this was very chewy and bland. For entrees, I ordered jambalaya and my wife ordered the fettuccine Alfredo. Our dishes were $12 and $11 respectively, but the Alfredo did not come with a protein. There was a $5 up charge for chicken that was either grilled or blackened. My wife ordered blackened. The chicken came out grilled on pasta that was extremely overcooked and soggy. The jambalaya had chicken, shrimp, and andouille sausage. It could have used another hour or two to simmer and the trinity wasn't cooked down. The real letdown here was portion size. I understand this was lunch, however, all three of the dishes above were served on the same pasta dish. For two dishes that were mostly rice or pasta the potion sizes were small. Especially the Alfredo which came to $16 with chicken added. Overall, Brickyard has a great location, has nice atmosphere, and likely has an excellent bar, but the food leaves much to be desired at a premium price point. read more

The ribeye was done perfectly and the catfish savory and hot. The dinners came with sides of crispy, seasoned red skin potatoes and sugar snap peas. Prices very reasonable. Waitress Christine provided excellent service, and the manager and other staff supported each other (it was very busy!) when they saw potential needs (more bread, drinks, etc.). Someone that I was with had a very hard time find something to choose from and my meal was pretty good but the noodles that were stuffed were under cooked. Doubt we will return It may have been a bad night but was hopeful we would spend our money at a local establishment in Franklin. Inside the building was very nice. We went to Brickyard Cafe in Franklin, KY this weekend as this is one of our favorite restaurants. Brickyard has been very affordable in the past but no longer. Usually we pay about $20 for a full lunch, $30 the most, cost us $40 this weekend. $40 for a soup and salad. A soup and salad cost us $20 at another restaurant (starts with a "P" and ends with an "A") where the tomato soup is just as good and salad is as well! I knew when we the server gave us a pat of butter that was wrapped in black and gold wrapper with our bread, that something was up as we have NEVER received butter with our bread. From there the ladies, bathroom was refreshed from a decor POV as well as being clean and stocked, also the area outside the restrooms had a new lamp and decor added that has not been there in the past. Plus, there was waitstaff everywhere and that had NOT been the case in the past as Bridget or Donald have been the only server on a Saturday afternoon, when we've gone for a late lunch. Long story short, Brickyard is good for a special occasion, but never each time we travel to Franklin, which is fairly often on the weekends, as eating there in the past has been a favorite. I just hope that due to the fact that we were there on a late Saturday afternoon, before dinner hour, the fact that the restaurant was empty, including the bar on a WNBA final weekend, wasn't a sign. But maybe it was. I just know that we won't be patronizing as often as we have in the past due to price increases. read more

First time eating at this location in Franklin Kentucky we started with the calamari. It did take quite a while for it to come in when it finally did come it was cold. There is a 30 Second difference when cooking calamari between perfect and overcooked. These were definitely overcooked very chewy the sauce was good though. My Wife ordered Chicken and Spinach Cannelloni which was pretty good nice blend of spices on the chicken wrapped it up shell. Actually that's what I ordered we swapped plates after she ordered the lasagna and was not a fan. I did enjoy what appeared to be homemade noodles but the sauce in the whole dish was a little bland like old people Buffet bland. So we swapped plates. Our server was fantastic and decor was cute very old Timey. The fresh bread they bought out With the balsamic and oil was pretty good I wanted to try the bread pudding but after our experience with two out of three dishes I decided I would just stay with what we had. We had our son's Rehearsal Dinner here, and couldn't have been more pleased or asked for a better evening. The restaurant, itself, was very inviting and has an interesting historical ambiance. Our party of 20 was easily accommodated in the large and cozy private dining room. In addition, our group had some special dietary restrictions to consider, but Robert was so patient, kind, and easy to deal with. He actually went to much trouble to help make our pre-dinner selections so easy and stress-free. I don't know of any other restaurant that would have done the same nor given us such unique and personalized attention. We selected Champagne Chicken & Beef Burgundy. EVERYTHING was delicious! The meat was tender, salad was fresh, and side dishes were seasoned to perfection! The carrot cake was top-notch, but I think the tiramisu was the absolute favorite! The filling seemed extra rich and creamy. Several told me it was the best tiramisu they'd ever had. You could tell a lot of care went into the whole meal. Would have like more mushrooms. Extremely good, not normal vinegar salad more creamy. Bred with olive oil and balsamic to your mixing. Girlfriend had lasagna that easy will make her three meals, huge. Very nice decor, Very reasonable cost. Waitress said every thing made fresh, nothing canned or frozen. I'll go out on a short limb and say this is the nicest restaurant in Franklin, KY. I honestly didn't know it was there-- and I'm glad we discovered it. Cool building, nice interior, friendly service, and most importantly--good food. There's a decent cocktail menu (they make a better than average old fashioned), a few good beers on tap, a solid wine list. The menu is relatively simple but solid--steaks, surf and turf, a lot of Italian. Not sure how it got tagged as "Mediterranean" as well since in that department the only Greek item is a salad but oh well. Nice appetizer selection--we opted for something simple, the fried cheese curds, but they were likely the best version of that particular app we've ever had. Seriously. My wife kept it simple with a blackened chicken spinach salad but said it was great. I had the Champagne Chicken, an item I don't see on many menus and one of the only chicken based dishes I'll order at a nice restaurant. It was really good particularly the sauce itself.
