I was happy to have yelped my way to Brickyard, not far (maybe a couple of miles) off I-65. It was the perfect place to relax on a beautiful October day for a late lunch. They offered a daily special (fish maybe?) that I don't recall and only serve from the lunch menu until 3 PM. I saw some interesting items on the dinner menu, but was told they were unavailable at lunch. That's fine and probably helps them run their service and shifts more efficiently. There were maybe 3 other tables seated and a few guys at the bar when we arrived around 1:30 PM. I had the grilled crab cakes with roasted sautéed veggies and rice, plus a virgin bloody mary and ice water. My friend had the chicken wrap and a Coke. The food was fresh, the service attentive, and the atmosphere cool (think exposed brick and original hardwood floors). And, the place was cute and clean. The patio was a pretty place to relax afterwards and the bar looked like a great place for a laid back cocktail. With lots of miles ahead of our return trip from Louisville I can't comment on the drinks. Our lunch totaled ~ 30.00 before tip and the meal came with bread and olive oil/balsamic vinaigrette. My neighbor and I have traveled all 120 countries of Kentucky. Brickyard Cafe' rated in the top 10 Restaurants in the state of Kentucky. We had the privilege of meeting the owner Robert, who has created a quaint-town charming dining atmosphere. Our waitress greeted us with a smile, and took care of all our needs. We order Shrimp Mac & Cheese, Fried Potatoes, and finished off with Bread Pudding. Excellent! We live three hours away which makes it impossible to come often but is worth the drive. read more

There is more to Franklin than a couple of hotels and gas stations at the freeway exit. We ventured into town going to/from Georgia and found the Brickyard by accident. What a pleasant surprise! The building, both inside and out, was beautiful. I think one of the locals told me that it was a hard-ware store-back in the day, The atmosphere was great, the locals at the bar were extremely friendly, the bartender was especially attentive and fun to talk to and made us feel like we were "regulars." And the food! Five stars!! Since Franklin is almost half way to our destination, this will be a planned stop in our travels. read more

What a delicious surprise in downtown Franklin! We greatly enjoyed the steak special the evening we visited - the "black & bleu" steak with a mixed vegetable medley and Caesar salad. Delicious and highly recommended. The drinks were perfect, our server was both patient and attentive and the atmosphere is just really cool. Sorry I didn't take any pics but others t have done a great job capturing the atmosphere. We're gluten-free and Brickyard Cafe gets it - no problem there. Love this place. Eat here frequently. But I didn't like my wife being lied to when we called in an order. They took our order over the phone we waited well over thirty minutes (because that's how long they said it would be) then when my wife arrives they realize they never put our order in, then lied straight to my wife's face and also gave an excuse of "we had a few big to go orders come in" SO YOU DECIDED IT WAS BEST TO SKIP US!?! We like to find local restaurants rather than the usual chains when on vacation. This place is one of those hidden gems we found thanks to Yelp. We knew that pizza was the first choice, though they had an extensive menu despite being a "bar". One side is s bar, the other a dining room. Love the exposed brick walls and wood floors. Live music was just getting ready to go when we left on a Friday evening. The pizza was terrific, crust crisp without being burnt. Plenty of toppings and the homemade sauce was really good. We dine here a lot, but tonight was not enjoyable at all. The drinks had no flavor. Our appetizer came out soggy we sent it back and were told they would remake it. For the management and staff; the only thing I'd consider (it may not make sense to keep things the way they are due to cheaper minded patrons) is doing away with the 18% mandatory gratuity. Our favorite in town! The staff are all so sweet, like a big family. The menu isn't very large but the daily specials are amazing. I love to sit outside on the sidewalk with my pug and people watch while sipping a sangria. We dream about the bread. It's fresh baked everyday. They use it for the pizza crust too. Highly recommend. After standing ignored for ten minutes we entered the bar on our own. Bartender said we could choose a free table. We chose a free table and waited nearly 15 minutes before someone took our drink order. He never brought it. We flagged down another young lady and she served our drinks. We had also ordered appetizers with our drinks, we never received them. No one came back to take our dinner order. Eventually leaving and paying for our drinks.We waisted one hour in this place. There were many broken hearts when The Brickyard Cafe closed its location in Bowling Green, Kentucky and moved 18 miles south to Franklin into a charming old building just off the town square. The location may have changed, but the food is just as fabulous. I always order the Mediterranean Salad with scrumptious Creamy Gorgonzola Dressing and during this visit, added the Kentucky Hot Brown, the famous turkey-tomato-cheese-bacon medley invented years and years ago in Louisville. My order was delicious and so generous that I took a good portion home to enjoy for dinner. Brickyard Cafe service is always excellent with warm, friendly, attentive owners and servers. I was recently in town on business. I stopped in for lunch with a coworker. He ordered the jambalaya and I ordered the avocado toast. My coworker liked the flavor of his dish but the portion size was very small and he left unsatisfied and still hungry. My avocado toast was literally just that, piece of toast and a avocado sliced in half. The eggs that came with it were poached and over cooked. The food is always good, the service is always great, and they have the best bartender in Simpson County working there....Billy will always make your drink perfectly...as if he's known you long enough to understand exactly how you want it. The ambiance always just right, and if you go on a weekend, you might just be lucky enough to listen to some local musicians while you have dinner and drinks. Just let me add that this is not a five star restaurant with five-star-restaurant caliber food. This place never disappoints! We stopped in today and to find out we were an hour early for the dinner menu. We specifically came for the champagne chicken so were sad to see we were to early to order it. Our server (and I wish I could remember her name as she was amazing, but my memory has failed me at the moment while in this food coma ) ran to the kitchen and ask the chef if it was possible to make it early. He kindly obliged. It was served along side of a rice, broccoli and cheese casserole and pan fried potatoes. We also had their fried calamari, and fried greenbeans. I can't forget our fill of their complimentary bread. We decided to get the bread pudding to go since we could barely move after dinner. To be honest, we had to open that container and eat some before even leaving the parking lot! Brickyard Cafe has quickly moved up to the top of our favorite places to eat. The food, outstanding.
