There were many broken hearts when The Brickyard Cafe closed its location in Bowling Green, Kentucky and moved 18 miles south to Franklin into a charming old building just off the town square. The location may have changed, but the food is just as fabulous. I always order the Mediterranean Salad with scrumptious Creamy Gorgonzola Dressing and during this visit, added the Kentucky Hot Brown, the famous turkey-tomato-cheese-bacon medley invented years and years ago in Louisville. My order was delicious and so generous that I took a good portion home to enjoy for dinner. Brickyard Cafe service is always excellent with warm, friendly, attentive owners and servers. This place never disappoints! We stopped in today and to find out we were an hour early for the dinner menu. We specifically came for the champagne chicken so were sad to see we were to early to order it. Our server (and I wish I could remember her name as she was amazing, but my memory has failed me at the moment while in this food coma ) ran to the kitchen and ask the chef if it was possible to make it early. He kindly obliged. It was served along side of a rice, broccoli and cheese casserole and pan fried potatoes. We also had their fried calamari, and fried greenbeans. I can't forget our fill of their complimentary bread. We decided to get the bread pudding to go since we could barely move after dinner. To be honest, we had to open that container and eat some before even leaving the parking lot! Brickyard Cafe has quickly moved up to the top of our favorite places to eat. The food, outstanding. This is a little treasure in small town Franklin KY. Something that isn't southern cooking, mexican or fast food and is made by a chef with some training (and talent) is definitely a find in my book. Located right off the charming downtown square (and when i say square, i mean its a square with a courthouse in the middle) the restaurant use to be an old hardware store. Exposed bricks and old signs and a safe make this place cute. The food seems to be mostly italian driven, but there are things like jambalaya (husband was a fan) that keep it interesting. We had our post-wedding dinner here and it was setup nicely. The server was on high, running around like a mad man, but he took the orders quickly and had help while bring it out. Overall this is a great place for the location as its something new and different, if it was in Nashville, I would have probably given it 3 stars for the food, but the atmosphere is definitely a solid 4 stars. Always like to find a local vs chain restaurant. Like the feel of the place with exposed brick, service was great and has a well stocked adult beverage bar. Had the nights special of sirloin medium with mashed potatoes. The spicy sauce was great though the sirloin a bit overdone and a tad on the dry/tough side, but still enjoyable. Coconut shrimp were tasty but overdone as well. The spicy dipping sauce was very good. I would give it another try next time visiting the area. read more

I ate breakfast here the day of my friend's wedding. They are not normally open for breakfast, but we had reserved it for a private party. I interior is just awesome. I love old buildings! The way they've kept so many of the historic features was great. The old wagon suspended from the ceiling made it feel like we were in another era! The breakfast they provided was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The cinnamon rolls were gigantic and so yummy! My favorite was an egg and salmon quiche-type of dish. Normally I would review a joint after i've been a few times - but this is an emergency review. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT have the Pizzas!! My dinner date and I had the "Brickyard" and the "Popeye" and based on these selections - The Brickyard does not know how to make gourmet rustic pizza. I'll call them Cheesy Bread. Ugh. First - the menu does not state that your pizza will be suffocating under a mound of gooey mozzarella thereby drowning out any of the other potential flavors. The "Brickyard" pizza says: gorgonzola, tomatoes, mushrooms, prosciutto. What it WAS was the aforementioned GOO with a few sprinkles of blue cheesy crumbs, tomatoes-yes, mushrooms-yes, and the ummm "prosciutto...call me crazy - but that dear people was COUNTRY HAM!!! Thick chunks of hammy salt blocks. Last I checked, Clifty Farm County Meats doesn't actually make prosciutto. Dear Brickyard - please revisit definition of prosciutto. Gross! I'm not really sure if the "Popeye" did actually have "white sauce" on it....see above: "Mound of Gooey Mozzarella". I did have a lovely house salad with nice dark greens and highly recommend the basil pesto vinaigrette. delish! and should be served with the pre-meal bread. Speaking of the pre-meal bread. It was not fresh. And served with a bland olive oil & decent balsamic vinegar. If you are going to serve your {preferably fresh} bread in this manner - it should be served with parmesan and spices as well to sprinkle in the oil. do yourself a favor and order the basil pesto vinaigrette dressing for your bread! Okay, all that being said - I do need to return to try some of the entrees that sounded and looked tasty as they passed our table. On the decor side - very cool, rustic & cozy with groovy handmade art...but for the life of me - where does the huge "thomas kinkade"-style print fit into this? read more

Extremely great atmosphere and friendly service. A tad high, but you get what you pay for. Both my meal and my wife's meal were excellent. However, and I understand that they cater to the area, bur the choice of tap beer, ( 4 ), left me choosing the one that I disliked least. 3 were too heavy to have with an Italian dish. And the fourth one I just don't like. I don't know if this matters or not, but we picked the restaurant because they had Greek & Mediterranean dishes. Along with Italian. But they don't. Only Italian. The artichoke appetizer was very tasty my lasagna and my wife's blackened Chicken Alfredo also enjoyable. Portions were more than enough. And I can put it away. I have been to the Brickyard a number of times. I have a very biased but honest opinion since the musician I promote occasionally plays here. All aspects of this establishment are excellent and this would be considered to be in a very upscale class suitable for all audiences. I would almost move to Franklin, KY just to be near this restaurant! The two times I've been there, I have been completely happy with my experience. We happened upon this place one evening we decided to drive up to Kentucky from White House. The restaurant is situated in an old warehouse building just off the square. It used to be a carriage repair shop and when the present owners renovated the building, they found a carriage, which is now hoisted above the main dining room. On Friday nights, an excellent pianist plays a selection of jazz and popular tunes and his music is very fitting for the surroundings. The bar has a great ambiance and you can sit and eat there. Plus this is Kentucky, so they don't have our new smoking laws. The food is wonderful: uncomplicated Italian with a nice selection of classics, plus steaks and seafood. Try the focaccia appetizer and the chicken alfredo. They also have nightly specials. The bar is well stocked with good wine selection and, because it's Kentucky, plenty of bourbon. My only problem with this restaurant is that it is not right next to my house. read more

Kinda disappointed in this beanery. Paid $17.00 (with tip) for a plate of very boring spaghetti. I had to ask for bread.. Actually shouldn't have left a tip. The waiter asked me what I wanted to dink and when I said "water" that was the end of any decent service I may have gotten. He came and plunked down the plate, said " you want anything else"? I reminded him of the bread. After that, he vanished, never to return. Place was NOT busy. Spaghetti left a lot to be desired. Taste was sorely lacking. I SHOULD have left him the tip he was expecting instead of the generous one I left. I may give them another shot at me, on the other hand, why bother ? read more

This cozy upscale eatery sits off the town square and parking is available on the street with no meters. The outside does give it a rather small, if not inviting appearance, however upon entering you will see that it is larger than its external appearance projects. There is a full bar and plenty of seating. If you do not wish to sit in the bar area, there is a dining area separated from the bar by a wall. We were greeted almost immediately and was given the option to sit at the bar or away from it and my wife chose to sit away from the bar. Our server, Andy, was prompt and very courteous, offering us wine and cocktail menus. I chose the cocktail menu and saw a nice selection of cocktails to choose from. We did not look at the wine menu so I cannot attest to its contents, but would assume based on everything else it would be good as well. Our only disappointment of the night occurred when I ordered a Dark n' Stormy and our server came back to inform us that the bar did not have any of the ginger syrup needed. However, there were plenty of other enticing cocktails to choose from so no harm. Since my requested cocktail was not possible, and was on the menu, my next selection was discounted to the Dark n' Stormy's price. Unexpected and unnecessary, I do realize these things happen from time to time, but was pleasantly surprised to see this level of service. I chose the Ellis Island instead and it was quite delicious and my wife's Espresso Cocktail was to her liking. The artichoke dip and bread sticks were our appetizer. The bread sticks were not the types used at the Olive Gardens but was cut bread strips that were toasted and they had just the right amount of crunchiness and warmth to go with the very creamy and delicious dip. A very warming and welcome start to our meal. Bread slices, olive oil and balsamic vinegar was also brought out. The bread was room temperature and very soft and had a very pleasant taste. I have been used to other Italian restaurants serving their table bread warm, but this was a very good presentation and went well with dinner. My wife ordered the Champagne Chicken and I ordered the Goat Cheese and Tomato Gocce. The gocce can have chicken or shrimp added to it and I chose chicken, which I think I married well with the sauce and drops. I took a bite of my wife's chicken and the vegetables that came with it and the chicken was succulent, the sauce nice and creamy and the vegetables tender and tasty. While her chicken was good, I really liked the gocce and was very pleased with my selection. The goat cheese and tomato was delicious and the drops were perfectly cooked. Combined with the sauce and chicken this was a delicious and comforting meal. While I have to be careful with the consumption of pasta that late at night so that it does not sit heavy, this was not an issue. The portion sizes were spot on for the appetizer and entree. This is not portion sizes like you would get at chain restaurants. Think slightly smaller and more conservative, concentrating on quality and taste. That being said, for my wife anything above a half order of anything is too large. Until we came to desert. I wasn't really planning on a desert. After the Ellis Island I decided to switch gears and have the Simpson Sour cocktail. Very delicious. A smooth sour drink that almost made me wish I had ordered it first. Very well done indeed. That was to finish my meal. My wife, however, had spotted the bread pudding and as you can surmise, we ordered it. My wife and I normally shy away from a bread pudding with chocolate. Even with a well-done bourbon sauce the chocolate can be overpowering. We do normally prefer bread pudding without it. However, the chocolate complimented this bread pudding. It was not poured all over, but was streamed across in wonderful lines. This allowed us to taste the bread pudding with the bourbon sauce without the chocolate and then taste it all together. And the portion was more than enough for two people to share. Fine service and food made our decision to stopover and dine in Franklin the right one. The appetizer and entrées arrived at our table in a timely manner and at the right temperature. Cocktails were also timely and at the right temperature. No watery drinks here. The establishment and dinnerware was clean, the décor warm and relaxing and the staff courteous, prompt and observant. I would recommend the Brickyard Café to anyone who is seeking a cozy place to take your spouse, fiancé, girlfriend or boyfriend. Anyone who is traveling and seeking an upscale eatery instead of one of the myriad number of chains along the way. And in general, anyone who is looking for fine dining. God bless. read more

Usually good place to eat. I ordered the cedar planked salmon - great special just not executed correctly. Soaking the cedar plank in water then charring the plank while grilling gives a great smokey flavor. Plank was not charred at all - no cedar plank flavor I expected. Still the best place in Franklin, just will not order this again. read more

My never ending search for good pizza & wings outside of NY surprised me today with some authentic examples .. Pizza was Good , Dough was house made & hand tossed , cooked in a brick oven ,, Sauce was very good, house made , simple & loaded with garlic , No skimping on toppings either . We went with Pepperoni & mushrooms , which were fresh , not canned .. Wings were good , large & cooked well with a good crispness to them , even though they were baked , not fried ... We ordered Hot , & the sauce was very flavorful with ample heat .. My wife and I ate at the Brickyard Cafe on the evening of Oct 18, 2019. The atmosphere was very pleasing. The decor of the restaurant reminded me of ones I have eaten at in New Orleans (the best place for food on earth!). Andy was our waiter. He was charming. He greeted us with a smile and exuded friendliness. I ordered the Hawaiian Shrimp. To say it was good understates the matter by a lot. The seasoning was perfect with a hint of spicy hotness. I wasn't particularly hungry when I sat down to eat, yet I finished the entire meal, sopping up the juices in my plate with the freshly baked bread that came before the meal. Though there were quite a few people in the restaurant, and the walls of the restaurant were brick, it was not noisy. My wife and I could talk in normal tones and hear each other perfectly. The Brickyard Cafe is not elegant dining, but it is comfortable dining with really good food. My meal came with a fantastic Creole rice and tasty mixed vegetables. My wife and I both had full dinners (she had steak). My wife ordered a cocktail. I did not. The total for our meals and drink with tax was $44.52, which to me was very reasonable given the quality of the food, the ambience of the restaurant, and the quality of the service. My wife and I live in Michigan and have never been to Franklin, TN. What a great find!! read more

We finally made it to this restaurant. And we are glad that we did. The food was great with a nice dining atmosphere to match. My wife had a salad and I had a special. It was a ham and pulled pork sandwich with fries. The fries were nice and fresh and hot and the sandwich very good. The salad my wife had had some awesome dressing and was very fresh. We also had a dessert. The tiramisu. Which anywhere else I have never really liked. But here it was delightful. We will be back. Enjoy! read more

We hired the Brickyard to cater our class reunion at the Roxy Theatre, and we were very pleased with the food and service. Everyone at the Brickyard was helpful and willing to go above and beyond. The food was delivered on time--and it was all fresh and delicious! The prices were very reasonable; we did an appetizer combo that was $9.50/person, and it was more than enough food for a group of about 60. Visited this establishment last evening, with couple who live in Franklin, KY. There was live entertainment (torture) in the form of a female guitar playing singer who screeched away so loudly that we had to shout at each other to carry on a conversation. Even our waiter expressed his displeasure with the NOISE being blasted to every corner. Even though we were sitting in the dining area and the Screecher was in the bar, we were blasted by the NOISE! As for the food and service, it didn't overcome the NOISE. The Goat Cheese appetizer was a bowl of marinara sauce poured over a small amount of Goat Cheese. Three fourths of the bowl went uneaten, as no one at the table liked it. After almost an hour of waiting for our entree accompanied by the NOISE, the pizza my wife ordered was wrong. The Hot Brown was okay except for being overwhelmed by the bacon. The waiter apologized for the long wait on the food, excuse being that there was a large party that had over whelmed the kitchen.
