The food is outstanding and the beer selection is unmatched. It was busy but we were seated pretty quickly even though we had a large party of 7. I wasn't happy with the service. We hardly saw our server and getting refreshed drinks was difficult. My food was a little late coming out because another server grabbed it for their table. Okay. This place is awesome. Rode the motorbike into town looking for some grub. I know it's a Monday at 3pm but it appears everything is closed that's not a franchised eatery. Only open places of originality was Jack Russell Brewing anfmd Bricks. I had enough beer this past week so I decided on Bricks. I ordered the Malibu Chicken Sandwich with sweet potatoes wedges. Wedges....OMG, they were huge larger than step fries size. And they are addicting. They come with a ranch dressing that makes them so yummy. The sandwich was loaded with a skinless chicken breast, avocado, bacon, lettuce and BBQ sauce. Another hard to put down. The service was impeccable. I definitely recommend and will be back. Oh my ,, we just had a fabulous early dinner at BRICKS. So good. My hubby had a Figaro Burger cooked perfect. I had their BLTA WHICH WAS REALL YUMMY. We also HAD SIDE SALAD and really good fries. Their IPAs were so good too. Our server Trevor was the most help friendly guy. This is a must eat at place in Placerville. The interior of old brick is so relaxing and inviting to eat in. Cascada is one of my favorite restaurants in Placerville so I had high expectations for Bricks because it is the same owner, i am so disappointed. I went with my work and we got appetizers, lunch, and drinks....the appetizers were cold, tasteless, and rather boring. worst bruschetta i have ever had. the service was awful. our waiter had no personality and it took me practically screaming at him to get some more water. overall it was an awful experience and i ended up leaving early because i did not want to spend money on a lunch item (way overpriced) based on the disgusting appetizers. maybe their entrees are good....but i will never find out. read more

Sometimes getting a bite to eat in some of these small foothill towns on a Sunday evening is a bit of a challenge. The small town: Placerville. The challenge: Sunday night - food that's good, isn't Mexican or Chinese, and won't break the bank. J-dubs narrowed the choices down to Heyday Cafe (looked closed, but we realized later it wasn't), The Independent (too pricey for a quick bite), and Brick's. Brick's it was. Great ambiance with the bar on the right and table dining for the remaining 3/4 of the restaurant. Brick walls (duh!) and psychedelic HDR photographs (meh) of downtown Placerville adorn the walls. I had the Filet Mignon (8oz Angus - Bearnaise butter, Yukon mashed, veggies) and she had the Mario Burger (1/2 lb burger w/ grilled mushrooms and onions, swiss cheese, bacon on a brioche roll). The Filet was good but not outstanding. The cut was above average, but thinner areas near the edge of filet caused that section to be slightly overcooked. Ordered a medium rare, thin side was medium. Yukon mashed was delicious as were the veggies. The Mario Burger was exceptional. Huge, mushrooms were melt in your mouth good, and the bacon was not just a throw in, it complimented the burger. Mind you J-dubs in a Filet girl and she was concentrating on her burger even though she had bites of the Filet. Service is generally excellent. Thought water should have been served to people ordering drinks. Had to ask for it separately after the drink was done and she didn't want refills. $42 before tip for 2 entrees and a soda. Not bad and within reason for our challenge. $11.95 for the burger is pretty standard around here. We snuck over to Mel's for a Caramel Praline sundae afterwards. Shhhh... Went for an anniversary dinner and was severely disappointed with the food. First off it took a while to come out but I was willing to look past that since it was a little busy at the time. When the food arrived i noticed that the steak on my jeffie sandwich was more well than medium and had little to no seasoning. There was no sauce on the sandwich which made it nearly impossible to eat and there was so much onions mushrooms and cheese on top that it seemed to be all I really noticed as I choked it down. My girlfriends caesar was lunchroom quality at best, and sadly the best thing was the wings we got for an appetizer that were D quality at best. On top of all this the pricing was absolutely outrageous and I ended up paying $60 something dollars for a sandwich some some wings and a salad. Went with my family for dinner. It was my second time eating at Bricks. I ordered the French dip with sweet potato planks. It was perfect. The meat was very tender - I would definitely get it again. We went based off other reviews and we were disappointed. Soda was flat and tasted dirty, got 2 replacements that were just the same. The waiter didn't seem to care. After a good day of swimming in the nearby river, we looked around in Placerville and Brick's had the best looking menu. It was quite busy, so we knew it would be good. We got our table right away and after looking over the menu it was really hard to pick something. We started with the spicy shrimp, and wow was that good. 5 gigantic shrimp drenched in a spicy sauce that was so full of flavor I dipped all the garlic bread in it. I would get it every time if I could. We got the Ahi Lettuce Wrap which was messy, delicious, and surprisingly filling. We also got the Chipotle BBQ Bacon Burger. It was loaded with bacon, melted cheese, a really good bbq sauce, and crispy onion straws. It was a fantastic burger... juicy... loaded with flavor. We upgraded to the sweet potato planks thinking they were just a fancy name for fries, but little did we know that they really were planks. More like railroad spikes. They were quite good, but surprisingly absurdly bigger than we thought they would be. Definitely want some ranch to dip with them. The waitress was really nice and kept our glasses full. Met a friend here for an early dinner tonight. It was my first time and her third. She thought it was good each time, and I had the best turkey burger I've ever had. I was able to substitute a salad for the fries. We had a booth to ourselves, enjoyed a glass of the house wine plus it was happy hour. Service was great - it wasn't busy yet and she let us enjoy our wine and talk before ordering. Very manageable menu but with plenty of choices. These owners know what they are doing. I look forward to many more visits! Update: August 2013: I wanted to mention that they now make their own gluten-free bread, which is really good! A solid gem in Placerville! Over the years I felt like I had sampled all Placerville had to offer, so was pleasantly surprised to find Brick's. Stopped in after a crappy 3 hour slog from South Lake to wet the whistle, lessen the road rage, and fill the belly. Check, check and def check! The ambiance is very warm and welcoming. Being on a solo mission for the weekend I dined in the bar. The bartenders were awesome - very attentive and friendly to chat with. The bar itself was very cozy with high top tables plus ample bar seating. The actual restaurant looks fairly spacious as well. Decided to sample off the "small bites" menu. Boy that's an understatement right there! The Gangnum Tacos come as three very heartily stuffed tacos with delicious fillings. Wanted something a little healthy so went with some Brussels sprouts... yeah that was a delicious plateful that I made my way through about half of. Wine list has great options as does the beer menu having some great unique beers. All around, I was very impressed with the place and give it one of the best options in Placerville! read more

I stumbled across this little gem ducking out of the rain. It's funny what you find when you're not looking. Ordered the Ahi lettuce wraps, soup of the day (bean and bacon) fries and a beer. The Ahi wraps were amazing! But good luck eating them as a wrap! They were huge! Nice seared Ahi, cucumber and cabbage, plus a pineapple salsa, was a fantastic blend! Soup was delicious. Fries were nice and crispy outside, but perfectly done inside. Only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the service was ok. Took a while to place our order and had to ask for water refills. In all fairness to the Yelp Review God (YRG) I was sick when I went here, so take that into consideration when judging me and my placement in Yelp Heaven or Hell or... limbo? Regardless I ate them as left overs and I took one bite while there. The burger was really good and cooked how I asked. The burger is huge as well and could easily be used for more than one meal. The portions are totally worth the price of admission, which is around $13 a person if you don't get an appetizer or drink. I also had a bite of the chicken sandwich and that was quite delicious as well. It obviously isn't the greatest place on earth but it is very good money well spent in my opinion... even though someone else was paying for me. Which actually made it that much easier to enjoy this place. THE VERDICT: You gotta try it out at least once if you live in the great placerville area. It is worth about a 30 minute drive if you wanna try it once. Went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. No wait, but the restaurant was fairly full. I had the Chipotle BBQ pork sandwich w/ fries and my friend had a burger. Both were really quite good, and large portions. Fries are bomb. Service was standard. Wasn't great, wasn't bad. I did ask for a glass of Cab and then saw the bartender pour me a Merlot, but I understand mistakes are made. I mentioned it to the server and he had the bartender pour me the correct drink. Overall, I thought this place was a cute, modern restaurant with lots of great menu options. We showed up at 5pm on a Saturday, right before they got slammed. They were busy when we got there, but we were still able to get a table. After that, the line started out the door. Then I realized that it was Mother's Day weekend, which may have explained some of the crowd. It was LOUD in there, between the packed restaurant and crowded bar. Not a place for quiet, intimate conversations. Our servicer was friendly and attentive, and our food came out fairly quickly for how busy they were. The have a decent selection of plates, sandwiches and salads. I opted for the grilled cheese with fried green tomato, and my husband got the salmon blta. His sandwich was impressive: large chunk of salmon, half an avocado, on a huge roll. He devoured it. My sandwich was good but not great: there was way more tomato than cheese. The fries were excellent though. Prices are good - we were out of there for just over $20. I will be back. read more

AMAZING! Every time I come here I can't stop eating! Love it. If you have any type of gluten sensitivity this place will fully accommodate you. The waitstaff is very knowledgeable and will not make you feel weird for asking a bunch of questions about the food, even if they have to go ask the chef. For instance, the sweet potato planks are gluten free (ingredient-wise), but they are cooked on the same grill as things that do have gluten. And they made this clear to me while I was ordering - POINTS! The atmosphere is awesome, music not too loud, the game is always on, beautiful art/pics on the wall, brick interior - are we surprised? Oh and the bar is so awesome, just a huge slab of granite, nice to marvel at while waiting for your yummy cocktails or wine. I am rambling, and I could go on, but this is the place to take someone you want to impress. It is intimate and the food is delish, I should also state that it is a little pricy, so take that into consideration. I eat out less than your average bear so I don't mind paying a little more for gluten free delectables (if they are good) - but if gluten is not an issue for you, then you may be in a different boat on the price range. Came to Bricks for a rehearsal dinner. Service was great, very attentive servers. Ordered the Tuscan Chicken with a cup or tortilla soup and the girlfriend ordered the meatloaf. The soup was great but the entrees were not up to par. The vegetables and rice were subpar and the taste of the chicken was not worth the price. The meatloaf was drenched in gravy which hid the taste of the loaf. The mashed potatoes were cold and as well as her vegetables. The burgers looked pretty good, I recommend trying those.
