This is an amazing local, queer owned coffee shop! I came in Friday morning to work for a bit and got a medium cold brew and a cute pride sticker. The staff were very helpful and it's such a welcoming space. They've got golden girls playing in the corner and plenty of seating. They also host a lot of community events. I definitely recommend checking out this spot.
From the moment you walk through the door, Brick Road Coffee wraps you in a sense of belonging. The staff -- shoutout to Jordan & Vivian, who were absolutely wonderful -- are warm, conversational, and genuinely helpful with recommendations. This is the kind of place where you immediately feel like a regular, even on your first visit. What makes Brick Road special goes beyond great coffee. They've created a space that's proudly queer-friendly and welcoming to everyone, full stop. The vibe is cozy and eclectic -- there's a small library tucked in, tasty pastries to go alongside your drink, and when I stopped in, The Golden Girls was playing on a projector. Honestly, perfect. I don't find myself in Tempe often, but Brick Road Coffee has officially earned a spot on my must-visit list every time I'm in the area. Do yourself a favor and stop in.
I absolutely love this place!! The vibe is unmatched! I love starting my day here and I always leave this place with a smile! Coffee is strong, the sweets are delicious and service is superb! I love the everything about this place, and my hubby and I stop in every weekend to support an awesome local business with a great mission! The flying monkey is a fav of ours, 6 shots of espresso!!
Excellent little coffee spot! Open and welcoming atmosphere and staff. The Prickly Palmer was fantastic!! Fresh squeezed lemons too. Absolutely a must try!
BEST COFFEE IN TEMPE! I visited Brick Road Coffee because I heard amazing things on Yelp and beyond. The coffee and pastries are exceptional, everything is expertly crafted and well-made. From the wide selection of lattes, I picked Brick Road's Iced Spiced Brown Sugar Shaken Latte, it was perfect, I paired it with a vegan pastry made with brown sugar (I asked for it warm), I melted when I ate it! The pastries are the right amount of sweet. Service was excellent, the baristas are so friendly and welcoming! It's rare to find such polite and helpful staff. They greeted us with a smile and made everyone feel at home. I love the inclusive atmosphere and incredible art on the walls! The merch (tees, stickers), books, and family feel created a comfortable environment where I could imagine myself chilling with a book and just resting. There's tables inside and out, I opted to sit outside so I can enjoy the cool winter day. Next time, I plan to eat inside so can enjoy the gentle lighting and incredible coffee aroma. The Wizard of Oz vibes are strong, I appreciate the pop culture references. Thank YOU Brick Road! Note: Brick Road also sells their coffee grounds in individual packages above their merch.
Our family had such a great mini breakfast at Brick Road. The pastries we got were so good, wish we had ordered more. My fave latte was made perfectly, per usual, and my partner tried a specialty drink which he liked too. Best part of hanging out at Brick Road was the massive library of books and activities (coloring books, board games). There's stuff to do for everyone if you want to just hang out and drink coffee.
Very cute, extremely LGBTQ friendly shop. I also loved the little book nook they had where you can leave and also borrow a book. The baristas were very friendly and gave me the recommendation of the iced Spiced Cookie Latte which was a gingerbread-y, cookie butter type deal. Decent enough taste. I like my coffee very sweet so maybe that's why it was missing the mark a little. I also ordered a cinnamon coffee cake, which was moist, fluffy and delicious.
Local owned coffee shop with cute decorations and welcoming atmosphere located on Rural and next to the highway. This seems to be an extremely popular coffee spot, especially when I went (Sunday around 1pm). The coffee shop had tables and chairs outside and they were all full and there were people standing around chatting outside the shop with their drinks. When you go inside, it is also extremely busy with all the tables being used and a lot of people standing in line waiting to order and waiting for their drinks. The only complaint I have about the inside is that it is extremely narrow near the entrance and order/pick up location and they also have a lot of shelves and stands in that area to hold items for sale. It gives a very claustrophobic feeling, if you have bad anxiety please be mindful of this. The baristas were really friendly and helped recommend a drink when I couldn't decide. My drink was made pretty quickly for how busy it was inside. I got an iced Blackberry Lavendar latte with oatmilk. The drink was refreshing and not too heavy. The blackberry and lavendar flavors were pronounced and balanced, the taste of the actual coffee was a little funky...but overall it was a pretty good drink still. They have a lot of fun drink choices, I will definitely come back and try something new. They also had a lot of food items with gluten free and vegan options. The food items were huge, and they have a lot of fun and delicious looking options! I did not get any this time around since I had just got lunch, but I did have to talk myself out of it a few times. I really appreciated that this coffee shop offered dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan options for their drinks and food, making it extremely inclusive for people with food allergies or intolerance. A disclaimer: After reading lower rated reviews on Yelp, I think it is important to mention that this is an LGBTQIA owned coffee shop, this is acknowledged on their website and in-store. The coffee shop is set up to create an environment and safe space for marginalized communities, and they are welcoming to all. The coffee shop does have a lot of LGBTQIA decorations and items for sale, it also has a lot of political items for sale. (See my pictures for some items to provide context). If you look at their website before going you will see that they are really extremely transparent and open about this being the environment that you will walk into. If this is something that you are not comfortable with, then I would NOT recommend coming to this coffee shop.
A coworker told me this was his favorite coffee shop. I was in the area so I had to try! Very cute shop and places for groups or couples to hang out inside and outside. They have a book with books and adult coloring books with colored pencils you could use while there. I got a pumpkin spice latte. This is one of the most perfect balances of spice creaminess and still be able to taste the flavors of coffee coming through. I was also tempted by the large lemon bar and had to get. It had a nice tanginess without being too tart or too sweet and the crust was a perfect thin crispy. I inhaled it a little too quick that I didn't get a photo! Will definitely come back to try the other drinks they have!
I've been supporting the awesome team at Brick Road Coffee for many years through events, just meeting friends and having coffee and snacks. They have a table size and style for any occasion including the patio. Their pastries are delicious and they always have good coffee. They are a local, neighborhood great who stand up for the little person and I love them. Thank you Brick Road Coffee!
What a gem of a find! Very LGBTQAI supportive. I've been twice now and the staff were warm and friendly both times. The first time I had the coffee cake and this last time I had the cranberry orange muffin. Both were tasty! Also, I absolutely love the lavender honey latte! It's amusing, comforting and warming to my heart to see The Golden Girls projecting on the wall, which were such ally's before many were. Many week night events are on their schedule bringing the community together in a safe place. Please stop and support this wonderful shop!
What a gem, I felt like there was this culture of care and kindness when I first visited yesterday. I came in on a Saturday around noon with 2 others. It was pretty busy, and we probably waited in line for 10-15 mins. I ordered the Blueberry Pancake Latte (advertised as a spring drink, so get it while it's still in season!) and my sister ordered a Cinnamon Roll Latte -- both were DELICIOUS, I miss it already lol. As I was checking out, I signed up for rewards, and it allowed me to redeem the points I had received just for signing up right then (it gave me $2 off). But even without the discount though, the pricing wasn't too crazy. When I said this place felt so kind, it was because of the vibe and because of some interactions we had while here: while waiting for our drinks, we looked around and noticed the walls, stickers (available for purchase by the register), bookshelves, and the cool projector that seemed to be showing an episode of Golden Girls. From everything we read and saw, it already felt like a very inclusive and safe space for everyone. As the three of us were about to sit down, two people came up to us saying they could switch and take our small table so we can have their bigger one, since there were fewer of them -- so sweet! After waiting for 15 mins, something came up and we had to leave ASAP. I flagged down one of the servers and asked if we can delay our drinks for pickup later, but they were so kind and made us our drinks really quick even though it was so busy (well apparently we were next anyway but they were still very nice about it)! We drank the drinks in the car and we were wowed -- my Blueberry Pancake Latte tasted exactly like a blueberry pancake. Same with my sister's order. I wish I was able to get a pastry, but that will have to be for next time :)
Good coffee with a good atmosphere! There is a good amount of seating to work and study at. They also have quite a few tables on the patio in front of the shop as well for outdoor seating. I got the French Revolution and I would ask for it less sweet next time but it was still good. I also think I saw that they had fun event nights pretty frequently as well.
Follow the yellow brick road! It's a course of action that a person takes believing that it will lead to good things and this brick road leads to an amazingly great coffee shop! We came in to not only support a LGBTQ+ owned business but also to support women's rights. They had a petition going on in here back during our initial visit. My gal pal and I ordered a Salted Caramel Brownie ($4.00), Blackberry Matcha Green Tea Twister ($7.75 + $2.00 Oat Milk, + $0.50 Whipped Cream), and a Vegan Blueberry Croissant ($4.25). After tip and tax, the bill was about $21. The blackberry matcha was amazing. I drank it way too fast because it was so good. I'll be honest and say the brownie was too sweet and the croissant wasn't my deal but I believe they order their goods from another local shop so it's not on them. The drinks are divine! What are you waiting for? Come support this wonderful coffee shop! The drinks are amazing. read more

Brick Road Coffee in Tempe is a wonderful spot I'd been to before that I'd somehow forgotten about. Adding it to my list to go back. It's a welcoming and inclusive environment for fun people. The space feels comfortable, with thoughtful touches and a positive atmosphere without being overwhelming. It's a place where you can enjoy your coffee and food, all of which looked great. They have books as well, yay. I ordered a cappuccino, which was made well with half and half --smooth, rich, and balanced. I also decided to try a gluten-free and vegan coffee cake, even though I wasn't sure I should. It was absolutely delicious and I'm so glad I tried it -- flavorful, and the perfect complement to my cappuccino. Everyone was super nice and I got my coffee quickly. They even offered to warm up the coffee cake which... made it so so good. And how? Being both vegan and gluten free, but oh so sugary... went great with the unsweetened cappuccino. So good. I'll definitely be back. It's a great place to relax, work, or just enjoy a coffee break in a supportive and friendly environment. read more

5 stars because every time I'm thinking of getting coffee in Tempe, it's Brick Road. Even when it's out of the way. The Iced Spiced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso is still better than Starbs. The cinnamon roll latte was divine. The flying monkey had bf flying for sure after all those espresso shots, lol! Still have to try the honey vanilla latte! read more

This place is the cutest, so well designed and thought out. The coffees and food selections are also so much more than I expected after having just deplaned. Gabe, the owner was so nice and even came to chat it up. I love exploring coffee shops everywhere I go. This is a must try. They have seating for 2s, medium sized group of 4-5, single bar tops, and even a large group of ppl. I'm impressed by how well thought out the space is. They are open late until 10. Their hot coffee is excellent. We got their cold brew with vanilla sweet cream on top (not mixed in since I don't like things too sweet). Food that I wanted to get but didn't: croissant crust pizza, blueberry muffin, sprinkle sugar cookie, vegan blueberry croissant (mind blown!) Love it! Go! I read the tagline in another review: "there's no place like foam" lol I had to stop by. I love the Wizard of Oz. read more
The catchphrase of Brick Road Coffee is "There's no place like foam." Ha! I love it! Click those ruby red slippers three times to be transported to a coffee shop that makes you feel right at home (And has a good foam to boot). I love the quirky inviting atmosphere here with equally as unique drink names, mostly Wizard of Oz themed. After browsing the menu I spied the special of the day: The French Revolution. Vive La Révolution I say! I got it in the medium size. Pay no attention to the baristas behind the counter, The Wiz would say if he were here, because they are taking care to craft a delicious beverage for you, plus there's a lot of cool stuff to look at while you're here! There's a section with books, games (Including a card version of Oregon Trail), and they might even have some freebies on the table right next to the counter. The drink was very good! I marveled at the perfect creamy foam on top of my drink and I could taste the vanilla and hazelnut as well balanced sweet elements to contrast with the coffee. If you're a fan of the Golden Girls too (RIP the lovely Betty White) they have scenes from the show up on a projection screen. Cool place, cool vibes, and good coffee! It can't be beat! Toto, I get the feeling we're not in Kansas anymore because we've got lattes, tea drinks and (cold) brews, oh my! Details: - LGBTQA friendly - Sober community friendly - All espresso and cold brew is sourced from Comucap, a Honduras-based, women owned Cooperative - Staff wear masks - Masks encouraged inside read more

My first impression was great as I walked up, I was approached by the nice Lady outside at a table with free swag(I love swag) I got a ink pen and key chain. This is a great spot for daily Java ! The "Open House" turned out very nice! The Owners Gabe and his hubby were friendly, and so was, the staff Andrew and Taylor. Gabe took the time out to let me know some back history on the restaurant and how he and hubby started up. This was awesome!!! Prayers that they do well! The store is in a great location located off of the highway behind Dennys...I personally suggest getting your coffee fix here before eating at nearby establishments. They were raffling off great prizes and also doing a fundraiser for Aids.( A Great cause) There was also a table set up for girl scouts, selling cookies as well! I picked a Caramel mocha which was yummy and had the right amount of Caramel The only problem I had was driving coffee so late in the day which had me up late at night! Ha read more

I could tell from the moment I walked in that a lot of care and attention to detail went in to this store. It was perfectly curated and would be a great place to work, talk with friends or do some studying. I got the cinnamon roll latte and it was very tasty! Perfectly sweet and tasted just like the real thing! The girls at the store were all very nice and welcoming. I've passed by this place for years and I'm glad that I stopped in on my way to work! I highly recommend giving this place a try! read more
I wanted to try a new coffee spot that wasn't a chain I was used to, so I stopped by after reading reviews. I ordered the cinnamon roll latte with oat milk. It was really good, not too sweet, which I really appreciate. One thing that stood out to me in this coffee shop was the library, I was told it was like a neighbor book library, and people swap books. It thought that was awesome. I plan to come back in the future to try different flavors and maybe grab a book! read more
Let me start with the negative or just neutral; the tea flavor is just OK but let me also let you know that I don't sweeten my tea. Now aside from iced tea I tried their jumbo chocolate chip cookie based on the recommendation of a barista and I will definitely be back just for that as well as a cup of hot coffee to linger and enjoy their ambience. I am absolutely in love with this place just due to their ambience and Diversity support!! read more

Went here like a month ago but due to unusual activity on their yelp page I wasn't able to write my review until now! Absolutely loved this coffee shop. The staff was very nice (and stylish). It was pretty busy and they all seemed to work together well to get all the orders out in a reasonable time. I got a blackberry latte with oat milk, iced. I got the smaller size and it was pretty big I thought! It tasted really good, I drank it super fast. Cute in here too. I follow them on Instagram too and it looks like they have fun events. Would totally return! read more

I lived in Tempe for 5 years, but only heard of this coffee shop due to a Yelp event being hosted there. I never noticed it before since it is tucked back away from the road. I ordered a Flying Monkey latte and a cranberry lemon muffin, and my husband ordered the cinnamon roll latte. Personally, I thought my coffee was a bit sweet, but I loved the taste of my husband's! We had the option to have our muffin warmed, but we chose not to...I regret that! It was a delicious flavor but I wish it had been a bit softer. I thinking having it warmed would have solved that problem. The baristas were very welcoming, seating was comfortable, and cute trinkets are available for purchase. read more
Wonderful morning spent at Brick Road Coffee. This LGBTQ+ owned bar is filled with books and arts celebrating the Queer community. It truly fills like a safe haven the moment you walk in. They have tons of events from a banned book club to voter registration. As for the coffee shop experience, the baristas were incredible! It was packed and they didn't skip a beat; amazing service. The chai latte was great and the vegan coffee cake was deliciously sweet. BRC is your adorable neighborhood coffee shop that welcomes everyone to be their authentic selfs and Tempe is lucky to have them. read more
Just a cute lil coffee shop that feels so warm and welcoming. The ambiance is 10/10 with a cute little plant wall, bookshelves filled with LGBTQ+ books, business cards of local LGBTQ+ businesses and other local companies, and a cute little shopping table. I got the shaken brown sugar iced coffee and it was amazing!! Starbucks, who?! The staff was also so sweet and engaging! I'll be back to this little hole in the wall coffee shop for sure. read more
Stopped by here a few weeks ago to check it out and first impressions are important, so the rating reflects that. The person at the register didn't greet upon entrance, or upon ordering. Attitude was dry, non-welcoming and rushed. There were also no suggestions made for a first time customer. Strangely enough, when I sat down to consume my beverage and pastry, I heard/saw that same person be extremely social and inviting to a couple of the "regulars" (their names were known and they had smalltalk). The coffee drink was actually pretty good and the pastry wasn't bad, but the microwave warm up made it soggy/soft. Overall, may or may not want to try this place again if the customer service changes. read more

This coffee shop is such a cute shop. It has amazing coffee, energy drinks, and just a all around great atmosphere. The only complaint I had was that they didn't have coconut milk. I judge a coffee shop on 3 categories; drinks, service and ambiance. Drinks 5/5: I got the cinnamon roll latte and it was really really good. Like the previous comment wish they had coconut milk but nevertheless with almond milk it was still really good. Service 5/5: The employees seemed like they were enjoying their job. We got it to go so there was low interaction with the employees. Ambiance: It is a really chill vibe, plenty of seating and music was not loud or distracting. read more

Today was my first time here and I absolutely love it! The atmosphere, hello The GOLDEN GIRLS on the big screen (my most favorite show ever), amazing coffee and the prickly pear lemonade is so yummy. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Thank you and I can't wait to be back. read more
I found Brick Road when they were hosting a petition signing. It immediately became my favorite coffee shop. I love the cold brew and the almond coffee cafe. There's comfy seating. Sometimes they show Golden Girl reruns. But most of all I love the inclusive, progressive community this coffee shop builds. It is exactly the opposite of soulless corporate coffee shops. Looking forward to attending the next book club event hosted with Tempe Public Library. Brick Road rocks! read more

Just an incredible place to get coffee. The baristas are super helpful and welcoming, and the coffee is great too. This is my moms favorite shop and she drives across town to get it several days per week. She continues to rave about it, so it was a must stop while we were in town. It did not disappoint and it was such a neat shop filled with love. From the variety of drinks to the ample seating to work, you can't go wrong whether you're just stopping in for a drink or need a place to work from. read more
