Walls have artwork from artists trying to sell their artwork. also there's no customer restrooms. The place is somewhat hidden near the back of the shopping center and their name Gold Bar doesn't scream coffee. Nonetheless they have a wide variety of mochas and it's usually what i get. They do that well. I come here occasionally when im in the area. Is their coffee good enough to get overcome no drive thru no app order ahead? Roaming the area, it was pure coincidence we found - and decided to enter - Gold Bar Espresso. We had literally parked at the door until we noticed the coffee sign and reasoned it is a coffee shop. What a nice surprise it was. Whenever I find such authentic places (read: non-franchise / chain venues), I prefer staying longer enjoying the non-replicable ambiance. So it was today. Hidden cozy coffee shop located in Tempe. As soon as you walk into the shop you feel like you have been transported into a different place. The coffee shop has stained glass windows and an extremely unique atmosphere. The barista was extremely friendly and conversational, she made it so any customer felt welcomed as soon as they walked through the door. I ordered a large hot fireside chai with oatmilk. This chai is now my favorite that I have had on the East side in Arizona. The Chai was spiced well, the vanilla added a balanced sweetness, and the drink was super creamy. Been coming here for years. Use to do some personal work there which was nice. Like the coffee variety they offer, sometimes the coffee could be a lil on the sweet side but if you're into that this is the best! My friends really liked this spot, and the range on the menu was nice. When we walked in, there was a strong mildewy smell probably from the cleaner they use which was a little off-putting. My drink was pretty decent, just a bit on the sweeter side. However, I was disappointed that the barista didn't call out our drinks. The coffee and food were average, but the customer service will probably keep me from coming back. The owner (who I believe was the owner) was not friendly at all, and even though we were the only customers she was dismissive and rushing us to choose. She seemed annoyed with the questions we had (which weren't very many) and just seemed all around unwelcoming. Just not good vibes coming here. Great place with a variety of mocha drinks. I went with the white mocha and anywhere that uses Ghirardelli chocolate for mochas are legit. The barista was really friendly and helpful. My husband and I use to frequent this place about 6 years ago and really enjoyed their space and beverages! Today we decided for old times sake to ride our bikes here! Still a quiet space with lots of tables to snag for studying, work or meeting friends. Quirky atmosphere with lots of art and mismatched decor. We don't usually venture to much out of our realms for beverages and stick in the chai or cold brew range. Today, I opted for vanilla chai one of five chai options they have and my husband cold brew. They have an extensive speciality menu, as well as rotating seasonal specials. Prices are pretty on point for cafe and obviously vary based on what your ordering! My brother and I went in for tea and homework but before he even got a chance to order - after less then five minutes of sitting down - we were given a monologue about how we should go to a library if we are gonna "use their wifi and seating." We left because this person was so aggressive. I completely understand and respect this policy but not the person who communicated it. If you want paying customers to have a nice experience, this is not the way you treat people. I was first introduced to this coffee shop when I first moved to Phoenix 11 years ago. I always forget about this place because we live downtown and it is a bit of a drive but so worth it. We came back today to have a nostalgic moment and let me tell you it has not changed. I wanted my partner to experience the uniqueness of this local coffee shop. It still has friendly staff and a huge selection of pastries and drinks. I love that none of the tables or chairs matches which is what makes this place one of a kind. I ordered a vanilla, raspberry chai and my partner had an almond joy mocha. Both were very good. The staff worked as a team to make sure the customers did not wait long for their drinks. I remember I used to come on Fridays and they had a jazz band. I am hoping they are still around so we can come back and relax here on a Friday evening to enjoy the music and coffee. We came in this morning and it was busy. The two women behind the counter were new? Not sure because it took them a while to figure out how to ring us up for a quiche, and two coffee drinks. I ordered the Breve and it just tasted like milk. We also got a Redeye and a slice of Spinach Onion quiche. The quiche came out to me cold. I was so confused. No instruction that I would need to microwave it myself or anything. Weird. So I microwaved it and drank my milk which was supposed to be a Breve with 2 espresso shots. The space felt a little dark and unclean, and the lack of public restrooms made it hard to stay for a longer period of time to get work done. A little rustic homely place with awesome coffee and a select list of pastries. I used to come here every week for years. The customers were very diverse in their purpose. A lot came to work on their computers. Others came to do homework from books, while others came for their tutoring sessions. On a rare occasion, some came to socialize through games and dates.
