We were just walking by and I really wanted ice cream, and lo and behold, there was a sign that said they had gelato. When you ask the universe, it delivers! Friendly greeting when I walked in. After looking through the flavors, I settled on a caramel something and strawberry cheesecake....I can't remember what the first one was but I do remember the flavors! I was a happy 5-year-old! I like how there are tables down this hallway which offered shade. Cako loved the cheesecake. Very impressed with their gelato! Looking forward to summer and what they will offer! Cako Approves!

Really good coffee and nice people! The cute little place is serene and kind of hidden inside a small shopping complex next to the Samesun Ocean Beach hostel. I had the 16 oz medium brew coffee $3.75 which is delicious and nutty. The place is also cozy and very welcoming.

I stopped by Brew Wave coffee and really felt like Gelato, they have gelato to sell in their store. I tried their coffee before, it was very nice. And who knows their gelato is also amazing! I tried multiple flavors even though they don't have that much options,the staff is so patient and friendly to let me try as much as I want and the sample size is really generous. Finally I chose two flavors- strawberry cheesecake and cookie & cream, they are sooooo gooood! The flavor is bold, strong and intense, you are feeling like eating a real cheesecake, just the way I love. If you stopped by here, please give a try! It's very delicious.

This places is awesome!!! The couple that owns it is so nice, great customer service! They have a chess board and you get to play a move every time you buy something which is a nice touch. Drinks and food are delicious!

Sweet small business in the heart of Ocean Beach! Stopped in this morning and spent almost 4 hours studying here - they also have free wifi but I found it was a little slow, it might have just been the day. All customers are greeted with a welcome and service is extremely kind. They also have a select menu of food as well as gelato for the warmer weather later in the day! I got a white mocha and it was a great balance of coffee and creaminess. The vibe is very coastal and I would definitely stop back in.

We also got the bacon avocado toast, turkey and cheese croissant, and a muffin, which were all out of this world * in sweet drooling emoji here * If I lived in San Diego I'd be a regular at this place! 10/10, I can't say enough good things about Brew Wave!!

Though we didn't try any food, it looked really good My daughter and I tried two totally different drinks but both of them were delicious I had the dirty hippie.... It was a dirty chai with an extra shot which I added, and made with hemp milk. My daughter had a fruity lemonade and it was the perfect combination of tart and sweet. The service was really amazing when we first ordered then we got our drinks and went outside to sit When we came back in to get the key to use the restroom the two younger girls working weren't friendly at all but maybe they were having a bad day read more

Brew wave is a cute little OB coffee spot, it has limited seating, but it does execute some good coffee. They also sell coffee beans and get sandwiches and pastries in store. I went in on a busy Saturday morning and even though there was a little rush the barista's were efficient at taking our orders and just keeping the mellow vibe. The lattes and the food were good and we ordered the egg bacon and avocado bagel sandwich. Great place to grab some quality coffee and grub and just keep on moving. You could linger if you luck out on seats. read more

I stopped by Brew Wave coffee and really felt like Gelato, they have gelato to sell in their store. I tried their coffee before, it was very nice. And who knows their gelato is also amazing! I tried multiple flavors even though they don't have that much options,the staff is so patient and friendly to let me try as much as I want and the sample size is really generous. Finally I chose two flavors- strawberry cheesecake and cookie & cream, they are sooooo gooood! I popped in to grab some gelato before walking around the area! I have to admit I expected there to be more ice cream options around Ocean Beach but I was satisfied with Brew Wave. It seems like the gelato is a fairly new addition and they have a small selection of flavors. I ordered a small scoop of the cookies and cream and it was delicious! Definitely a little small for the price but it satisfied my craving! read more

Brew Wave has quickly become one of my fave coffee shops in San Diego! I am a customer of the Ocean Beach Business Center down the hall so initially I stopped in for a coffee out of locational convenience (yes, ok, the delicious coffee smells lured me in), but now I buy coffee here because I genuinely love it. They have tons of great options on the menu, but my go-to is a vanilla latte and they make a really good one. It's not too sweet and the temp is always perfect (I like 'em hot). Hungry? They got food options as well as lots of baked goods and smoothies. And the staff is always really friendly (not the snooty kind you can get at some of those other coffee shops...). Coffee shops are a dime a dozen in SD, but if you're looking for friendly service and a great cup, don't skip out on Brew Wave! read more

Good mint iced mint tea! Not particularly Moroccan or unique, but it gets the job done. Of course it's a coffee shop so I'm not docking a star for the bevs. While the service was great, I wish that Brew Wave was open until at least 7pm. Ocean Beach gets most of its traffic after 5pm for the sunset, and that's usually when I'm around the area trying to grab a drink. read more

I live a block away and was so excited when Brew Wave opened and I met the kind, friendly owner Robert. There are so many coffee places in OB to choose from, but Robert and his staff set themselves apart with very high quality coffees and teas, muffins, croissants and other delightful morning treats. The staff is always warm and welcoming and I never leave disappointed, whether I get a hot or iced coffee, a bagel or a banana nut muffin, or an awesome salted caramel gelato. Always clean, bright and cheerful. Brew Wave is a wonderful little treasure on Newport Ave and I cannot recommend it highly enough! read more

Delicious dirty hippy chia iced expresso drink and warmed up spinach and cheese croissant to get the day at the beach started. My husband's bacon egg and cheese bagel was also really good. I loved the smear they put on it. The people that work here are also super friendly and I love how they support the local artist with their art on their walls. Stopped in today to for the first time and had a very negative experience. I wanted to choose a shop I had never been to before, in support of local business, but I can't say I will ever been coming back. The counter was full when I arrived so I wanted to give it a chance to die down. Plugged my phone into the wall and was finishing up typing a message when I was rudely confronted by a shop employee. She asked if I purchased anything and I let her know that I would. She must have not seem satisfied with that answer because she then proceeded to instruct me to unplug my phone and rudely told me I couldn't just come in and sit. I didn't realize I had to be rushed to make a selection. It's a coffee shop? I've never received this type of treatment before and I am disappointed in this employees poor customer service. I had headphones and yoga clothes on. Clean normal young woman. Clearly not homeless. I politely ordered a tea and continued to wait for my friend, but we will not be staying or giving this establishment more money. I hope this employee feels silly for harassing customers. This place looks like it could use customers, if only they didn't scare them away. read more

This is definitely the type of place where reservations are a good idea, especially if you're looking for a cozy table. We arrived with a party of six, and our table was ready when we got there. We had the perfect setup with a booth on one side and comfortable high-top seating on the other, making it ideal for conversation and sharing plates. I did notice several people walking in and grabbing seats at the bar, so that's also a great option if you're dining solo or as a couple. If you're planning to visit, Wednesday is the day to go because Happy Hour runs all day! Definitely take advantage of it. My husband and I ordered the 8-ounce steak and fries, and wow...it exceeded expectations. The steak was cooked perfectly, incredibly tender, and very simply seasoned with sea salt, allowing the quality of the meat to shine. It was served with a garlic chili aioli that paired beautifully with every bite. Now let's talk about those fries. Honestly...I'd come back just for the fries. Well...maybe not just for the fries because the lamb meatballs completely stole the show! I expected them to have a stronger gamey flavor, but they were incredibly well prepared. You could immediately tell the chef knew exactly what they were doing. They were served in a rich tomato sauce with Parmesan cheese, and the garlic really brought everything together. Every bite was packed with flavor. We also tried the Brussels sprouts, which were tossed in what tasted like a delicious peanut sauce. The sauce itself was fantastic, and I loved the toppings, but I personally would have preferred the Brussels sprouts to have a little more crisp before being coated. That's purely my preference because the flavor combination was excellent. The mac and cheese was ok, although I wasn't expecting what looked like a light cornflake crumb topping. It added good texture and made for a beautiful presentation but could have used a little salt and more flavor. Happy Hour also includes a nice selection of wine, beer, and even margaritas, so be sure to check out the drink menu while you're there. One of the highlights of our evening was the service. Our server Dalton was absolutely fantastic--friendly, attentive, and incredibly patient. One person in our party had a food allergy, and I really appreciated how seriously he took it. He carefully noted the allergy, communicated it with the kitchen, and checked in several times throughout our meal to make sure everything was perfect. As a longtime Yelper, I believe great service deserves just as much recognition as great food, and tonight's service absolutely elevated the entire dining experience. The ambiance is another reason I'll be back. Books & Records has such a cool, inviting vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer.
