The space was bustling with people working on their laptops on a Thursday afternoon, so my group split between the bar and a big communal table. The housemade lavender syrup was delicious in a latte and cold brew. The cinnamon buns with cream cheese frosting were also a big hit and big enough to be split between two. Despite the low lighting, we enjoyed a productive few hours of reading or working. I would definitely return next time I'm in the Jacksonville area. read more

Husband needed a coffee after Black Sheep and after he read a review about a stout and cold brew concoction I knew Brew was where we were headed. After a short walk from the restaurant we found ourselves at Brew. A relatively small yet comfortable atmosphere. The bartenders were nice and knowledgeable. The husband ordered just the cold brew which I sampled and found it to be wonderfully smooth. I ordered the Hipster Speedball that contained the cold brew and the local Intuition King Stout. So. Freakin. Good. Next time we are in jax I plan to visit Brew again and order one of the sandwiches on the menu. read more

My absolute favorite spot! Times are obviously very hard and trying right now, but the staff is so warm and welcoming, it really makes you forget about all that for just a moment. Their tacos are to die for and coffee keeps me buzzing all day! I'm usually a two or three cup a day type of person, but if I'm getting BREW I know I'm set. The best part is if you're ever in a hurry and don't have tome to wait, you can order online for pick up which is great when I'm on my way to work. Oh the beer and coffee. They have some of the best espresso I've ever had and a great variety of craft beer. They have beer/coffee drink combos that are quite delicious. I've had the brewmosa a few times which is a wheat beer combined with a little orange juice. It sounds odd but it's so good. I typically get the soy latte and it really doesn't need any flavoring..the espresso is that fresh and delicious. They do have food as well, but I have yet to try any of it. read more

If you want the stereotype of hipster service where... service doesn't matter, this is the place for you! Coffees and cookies are fabulous tasting, and I've been an ongoing customer for years and felt the customer service was simply ok enough for me to continue to come back until about a few weeks ago....when I entered Brew one evening after eating dinner at Biggies Pizza with my family. We entered the shop at 6:56, door was open and we were all smiles, ready to buy my 3-yr old a cookie. The gal at the register was all smiles and appeared ready to take our order but as we took another step, what appeared to be the manager hastily walked down the main aisle shooing us with a hand gesture saying "no. We're closed!" I continued smiling saying "can we just buy a cookie for my kid?" Of course I had no idea 7pm was their close time (I'm usually there in the day time) so I was confused....esp since the door was open. So we turned around and left. It felt so wrong. Like, there are 5 other ways to handle that situation, but your door was open and it wasn't 7pm yet! Ive worked in family owned restaurants all my childhood life, and worked retail as an adult. One thing I know is.... if I left the door open by accident and a customer walks in, you politely explain you forgot to lock the door but you absolutely service the customer. It's your fault you left the door open unintentionally so own it and sell me a cookie. I didn't ask for 3 lattes and a hot meal.....and if your register was shut down, then politely explain that (and I would have given a kid a free cookie - it's guaranteed more business when nice gestures occur like that.) Now I'll never go bacK and I'll share my story with friends and family. I'm so sick of this hipster attitude with young businesses. It's just gross. read more

brew is by far my favorite place to go grab breakfast, a quick meal, or even just a coffee. it's a quaint little hole in the wall, in my favorite part of the city. all of the employees are kind and do their best even during a pretty big rush. the coffee is 10/10 always, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is superb. if you're questioning trying it out, stop it and go. read more

This little hole in the wall, blew my mind! Not only was the service excellent, they were offering to sample almost everything to us. I ordered a lavender coffee, and it was unbelievable. What can I say that everyone else hasn't said yet. I don't know but I love the people in this place. From Jack the owner dude to Callie Marie who cooks amazing things to Emily that serves me up some good coffee and sodas. There's another guy there Frank who also is a good guy to serving up anything that I want. They all show me and everyone the love that we are all looking for in a local restaurant/coffee house/ and brew stop. They carry a boatload of beers. A bunch of local brewery delights and not your major mega brewers samples. Those are down the street somewhere. I mostly go in for the food and the company. I have known Callie Marie for many years now and have had her bake me a few cakes. They are more then awesome so soon you will be able to order them right here in the store. Today I went in with a little some some and she made me a delicious toast with some new bread from 13 Gypsy's. Nice toasted bread with some house made hummus, kale, and my bacon and then an easy cooked egg. I just had to break the yolk and have it flow all over the dish. It is so so full of yummness. Personally I think it was the bacon that set it off but then Callie said it was the bread and Emily said it was the hummus. To tell you the truth I think that the whole thing was killer as a whole. You know the old parts is parts thingy. They are also open late for all of our Yelpie late night after parties too. So when your in 5 Points you should swing in for something. Maybe I caught this place on an odd day but I was underwhelmed by the whole experience. I was meeting a friend and arrived first. There were people gathered in the front and someone was ordering at the counter. You know when you go in a new place and there is no clearly defined line and you aren't quite sure where to stand? I ended up behind three ladies who didn't move forward when the counter was empty, finally asking them if they were in line, but certainly not greeted or addressed by the girl behind the counter. I'm a decaf girl and once I started to order, this seemed to be an issue. I wanted maybe a latte or drip coffee, but I was told "we don't have decaf espresso", twice. Uh, OK. I didn't want one of those anyway. Seems the ONLY decaf option was a 'pour over '. Looks like that is what I'll order...and a cinnamon bun like muffin. I wasn't quite sure if I should stand or go ahead and get a seat, so I had to ask. The muffin was heated up and arrived a few minutes later. The drink? Who knows. The only barista was busy making the drinks you use the machine for and minutes kept ticking by. I did get up and grab plastic ware from the cream/sugar area and returned to my seat. After about 10 minutes my friend arrived. I greeted her at the door and she got in line to order her latte which arrived with speed. I got up to ask where my coffee was, at this point my muffin was cold and I had been waiting while watching people come, order and depart with their drinks. The girl seems annoyed or frazzled or whatever but abruptly left the cashier area to run past the barista to shove a pre-filled coffee filter over a cup and pour some hot water into it as it drained into a short tumbler underneath. I chatted with my friend for a bit and after more people came and went, I then asked the barista if the set up was my decaf. He spent a while heating up an empty mug before transferring the coffee to that mug and put it on the counter. Seriously, the service here was Bleah. Inconvenienced. Not friendly at all. I had to then head back over to the cream/sugar area to fix my coffee. Notably, not being a regular, I was guessing what was in the pitcher creamer thing because there were no labels, no time stamps. The coffee wasn't stellar. The food was ok, not remarkable and not hot by the time my coffee found it's way. Not one followup comment. This was my experience and I know there are positive reviews, but maybe I just hit them on an off day. It was a nice place to meet and chat with a friend, just make sure you order something caffeinated and watch to be sure they don't just dismiss your order. It was about $8+ for coffee and a muffin. Had never been here before. I came in and sat at the bar. Waited ten minutes and got no service, nobody even said hi. Then a group came in and sat next to me and they were immediately greeted and helped. I was still waiting. Are friends of the bartenders the only people who get service? I think that 3.5 Stars is actually more accurate, but I will fall on the side of 3 for the purposes of this review. I went to BREW for their grand opening shindig, which was pretty cool. They actually did the ribbon-cutting thing which was kind of neat. I had a macchiato and a beer cocktail. The macchiato was properly made and served with seltzer water. It wasn't the best one I've ever had, but it was still good. The beer cocktail I had was the "Moscow Bul" which was only offered in pitchers. It was tasty, but I really didn't like that it only came in pitchers. Since it was still pretty cheap (and only contained one beer for the whole pitcher) I went with it, but I wasn't happy about 1/2 way through it. It is pretty dark in the bar area but the small front area is nice and open. There's a good sized bar with plenty of seating, and a few long tables that encourage communal seating. The staff was polite enough when I was there, but the stress of opening day caused a few service hiccups that I am choosing to overlook. All in all, BREW is not a bad place to hang out when in Five Points. I can see its appeal with younger clientele especially, since they have all sorts of fun non-alcoholic options available. But it's not my favorite place to hang out, and there are closer (and better) places for me to get my coffee and beer fix in the area. read more

The toasts are great and bendy with fresh ingredients but a little pricey. I'll write a review! Though I don't always consider myself a foodie I do consider myself a coffee snob. Not sure if it's the north westerner in me or just a slight obsession, but I love coffee and everything that comes with it. Brew is serving cold brew and espresso drinks, with no flavored syrups. They also will be cycling out espresso from around America which I am looking forward too! Not that I don't love bold bean, I just am looking forward to being able to try other roasters. The location is spot on, and though I worried about parking being an issue in the morning there is always a spot available. The overall design is clean and inviting and once they have beers available I will be frequenting here even more in the evening. And before I forget dat toast! Mmmmm. I tried all three and the goat cheese one is by far my favorite. I don't even really like goat cheese, but the combo on this one is pretty off the chain. Overall brew gets 5 stars! read more

Sorry, BREW fans. I visited from out of town based on stellar Yelp reviews. The vast selection of canned beers, coupled with great draft selections and supposedly good coffee, could not make up for the lack of service. I was NEVER acknowledged from the time I walked in to the time I ordered. It was literally 15 minutes until I got a beer. The beer was good, but the service sucked. Brewing Chicago's favorite Intelligentsia--this fact makes me happy-sad. Or is it sad/happy? Happy--because Intelligentsia is very, very good. As a Chicago girl, El Gallo Breakfast is in my cabinet right now to grind and brew at home. They sell the beans in the groceries up here, and they are well worth the price. Happy--because I give props to Intelligentsia for selling their goods down here. Sad--well, I've journeyed all the way to Florida to get what I have at home. But, the locals are lucky! They, I'm sure, don't have the same reaction that a Chicagoland resident would. The cappuccino was lovingly and patiently made by the barista for me. He very carefully put some art on it, which means that his capp was wet by some standards. That's okay by me, I often drink lattes as well so I am whatevery about wet-versus-dry cappuccino wars. I'm a lover, not a fighter. I sat at their hip concrete bar next to some guys drinking beer before noon on a Monday. Nice! The feature here seems to be beer mixed with coffee. Or just beer. The fridge was full of all sorts of weird beers with funky names. They serve gourmet toast as well. This is becoming a thing, since I've been to a place in Salt Lake City that does the same, and Glenview, IL. The decor is dark grey with a lot of skull art work. A lot. The long narrow footprint of the space makes the back darker and cozy, feeling bar-like even at midday. The front is brightly lit by the floor-to-ceiling windows.
