I went to BREW for the first time on Saturday night. The place was packed with very limited seating but the service was pleasant nonetheless. The space is clean and simple. I decided on having the Brewmosa as my first drink which was some type of beer mixed with orange juice. The taste was similar to a Blue Moon, but it was still tasty. Of course before I left I felt the need to have a coffee as well to get the most of my experience there. At first I was a little disappointed that there weren't any fancy flavors to add to the coffee but found in the end it didn't matter. I ordered a latte and it was flawless. The brew was bold and flavorful and just what I needed/ wanted at the end of a long night. I'll definitely be back. read more

Not sure what happened but wow came here for something tasty and left very disappointed with their traditional latte. There was no richness or even a hint of the espresso in the drink, I even asked for extra shot of espresso. Haven't tried their coffees so I'll take a shot at those next time. It's my favorite brunch/coffee/generally chill daytime hangout place in all of Jacksonville. The breakfast tacos are all delicious, the chorizo corn cakes and kolaches are to die for, and they have my favorite ever beer cocktail - the Chai IPA. This place is the best - that's all! read more

This place is terrible as a business. Nothing against the employees, they seem nice and reasonably friendly, but as a coffee shop, and a business, it's horrible. They are surviving purely on the basis of hipster nostalgia and not the slightest on quality. You can't even order a plain coffee after 2:00 PM, mind you, this is a coffee shop - the only they can apparently provide is $4 lattes and pour-overs, and $8 beers. Also, they don't serve any food other than refrigerated pastries after 2:00 PM, and my pastry came with a side of human hair (literally). Save your time and money and go to a real coffee shop with a real selection and menu. read more

Stopped in for some cold beers and iced coffees last night and we all enjoyed the refreshments and ambiance. The variety of beer choices is really impressive. They have great choices on tap and in bottles and cans like fruity and light for me and dark and heavy for the guys and a couple of beer cocktails plus many of the great local brews. They even have a few nice unique sodas. I wondered why I don't come here more often, but on a Saturday night it feels a little bit like a hipster place. Of course this is the usual five points crowd. Checking out the made-in-house fresh toasts menu though definitely encouraged me to plan to come back for brunch and coffee sometime soon. Great place to grab a coffee or beer (or both if you get the Hipster Speedball!) after work or before meeting up with friends. I came to Brew when I was only in Jacksonville for a few days but had a couple of hours to get some work done in the early evening. I love that you can get coffee if you need a little boost after work or before you go out for dinner and drinks or beer if you're looking to decompress and also start your night. I've been here three times already and I love its location and everything about the kolaches. I had the kolache sammy, and the chorizo and potato taco. Anything chorizo is a win and the kolache was delicious. The coffee is awesome, and I love the lavender syrup in my lattes. read more

I really enjoyed the iced coffee. The atmosphere was cool but I don't know that I'd say it was cozy. It seems like it is better for a 20 minute discussion with friends vs. a two hour study session or something like that. 3 stars - for trendy coffee shop in a cute little historic Jacksonville. I was traveling through Jacksonville for a night and I needed my afternoon pick-me-up. I originally searched on Yelp for a good coffee place that had good reviews. And found Brew, also, they had an offer buy a $5 voucher, worth $10...so I was pretty much sold on that. After we walked, the barista told us about what his popular coffees are on the menu. I then told him I found them on Yelp and also purchased the $10 voucher. My husband really wanted just a regular drip coffee, however, the barista said they stop making it after a certain time, which I thought was kinda of weird, considering they are a coffee shop. And maybe he just wanted to sell us a more expensive coffee...who knows? So, I ordered the chai tea latte ($3.25ish) and my husband ordered carmel latte $3.75ish). After he figured out how to ring up the Yelp deal on my phone, he said, "We just do the 2 coffees and call is even." I thought this was kind of a scam, considering I still had about $3 left to spend from my voucher. I didn't say anything at first, but after thinking about it, I also ordered one of their large cookies and a small chocolate, which then evened it out the voucher. All in all, I thought the place was more a local hang out for people to check their phones, use wifi and chat with other locals. The coffee and chai teas were good, but nothing special that a Starbucks or general coffee spot. (Side note: they did serve beers, however, we didn't partake in those.) read more

If you don't want to make it, don't put it on your menu. Asking for soy or almond milk instead of regular milk is not at all uncommon. Every coffee shop ever (except DD) does it easily every day. Being new to the area and living close to five points, I was excited to try this place and was appalled by their service. The wait staff is extremely rude and pretentious, they act too cool to tell you about their menu, and there is zero customer service. They would much rather talk amongst themselves than talk to the customers. It seems like they are inconvenienced to serve you. With it being so convenient, I've given it multiple tries and it's been equally as bad every time so I refuse to go back. There are many better options close by where the coffee is just as good AND the staff is friendly, so do yourself a favor and skip this place and try Bold Bean or Southern Roots instead. read more

They have a really nice selection of beer and they do different beer cocktails where they mix various coffees with different styles of beer. I had a cold brew the coffee mixed with a Ten Fidy imperial stout and I was in love with it. The vibe is really cool and the staff are very helpful. Located in the heart of 5 Points, this small shop is a cross between cozy and industrial cool - with a buildout that includes concrete countertops, wood accents and dangling Edison bulbs. It's a sleek hangout that somehow always has the perfect size crowd inside; never too crowded to flag down a bartender and never completely empty. I've stopped by BREW twice now - once before catching a movie at Sun-Ray Cinema next door, and once after grabbing dinner at Hawker's across the street - and I'll definitely be making more visits so I can finally try their "artisan" toast from Community Loaves. I'm not a coffee expert by any means, but I think the coffee tastes great (I've had the regular espresso and the chai latte). The beer selection is growing, with a craft beer stocked fridge and a couple of drafts available. The menu may be on the smaller side, but you can tell that the owners have carefully and lovingly selected everything that makes the list. I'm interested to see how/if the menu evolves going forward, as I think a smaller spot like this could really experiment with some unique menu items that would make it a destination. Unexpected and upgraded bar snacks, maybe an expansive dessert case a la biscottis? It's a solid pre- or post-date spot, hangout with friends, business meeting place, but I would definitely give it 5 stars once it carves out its own identity just a little bit more. A friend of mine brought me here a few months back and had me try an iced lavender latte with almond milk. It sounded super weird but that's one of the greatest tasting coffee concoctions I've tried yet. Ive been hooked. This morning I tried an asparagus & goat cheese quiche, accompanied by a bed of greens, and it was fantastic. A bit pricey overall but the cold brew is worth it for the intense flavor and jolt of caffeine. I ventured away from my usual cold brew and tried the basil mint iced latte.
