Stopped in this afternoon for an afternoon pick me up (dark roast coffee with cream). While this location has sparse parking even with the addition of their overflow lot to the east an Atlantic Blvd past the railroad tracks, I lucked out and found a spot in the main spot. Regardless of where you park, you better be good at 3 point turns and parking bc you will be doing one to get into or out of your parking spot. Upon entering the business, I was greeted and was surprised to learn they serve dark roast coffee this late in the day. The seating area is divided into two sides separated by the counter and kitchen. I opted for a dark roast with cream in a mug. Took my number and looked for a two top table among the mix of high school study groups, after school snacks and business meetings. Coffee came quickly and was hot and bold. Since moving to Jacksonville, I feel like Southern Grounds is one of the places that keeps getting mentioned over and over again as a staple of the city. I really enjoyed the tiramisu latte. It was pretty sweet, and the coffee flavor came through really nicely. The pink cloud matcha was decent too. Decent in that it tasted good in general, but the matcha flavor itself wasn't really there. I would definitely come back for the drinks, but the food wasn't that worth it for me. They're generally on the expensive side, or the servings are super small. If you do order food, I feel like the brunch burger is the most worth it. It's a pretty hefty burger, with a perfectly runny egg. And the fries are well seasoned and pretty crispy. The salmon toast was a single skinny slice of bread with only two pieces of smoked salmon on it. Idk I expected like a heftier bread or at least some more smoked salmon. The whipped feta chicken sandwich was good, but nothing too special in my opinion. The chicken was on the drier side, but I really liked the foccacia. Southern grounds does seem like a nice spot to do work though, so I can see the appeal of staying there for a while and just ordering food for convenience's sake, but I think I'll stick to the drinks next time I come. read more

I stopped by Southern Grounds and tried their Cherry Vanilla Matcha Latte, and honestly... this might've turned me into a matcha girl. This was my first time really giving matcha a fair shot, and I was surprised by how much I liked it. The flavor was earthy and nutty, really smooth and comforting. I personally didn't taste much cherry or vanilla, but the matcha itself was good enough that I didn't mind at all. Service was pretty standard--quick, friendly, and easy, which is exactly what you want when you're grabbing a drink and settling in. What I loved most was the atmosphere. It's such a good mix of people--some working, some chatting, some just enjoying their coffee. There are plenty of outlets, lots of space, and it's definitely one of those spots where you can bring your laptop and actually get things done without feeling awkward or rushed. They also have food if you plan on staying awhile, which is always a plus. I ordered the salmon tartine - one small piece of bread, not even toast, the cream cheese, barely covered the toast, and there was a skimping of salmon and a piece of an interesting looking onion- $13.95 I tried ordering something different ,as I had previously had the avocado toast which also has become very skimpy with hardly any avo and mainly just feta cheese on top. Let's start off by saying I have been to a lot of coffee shops and this vanilla latte that I had here was one of the best that I tasted in a very long time. Korean steak bowl was so good, perfect match of spice and salty. There is plenty of seating inside and on the pack patio. The parking lot is really small so you may have to use there additional parking lot about a 100 yards away. The staff were really friendly. I don't come often, but I always enjoy the environment. It's nice to have your laptop and work here. Nice alternative to a Starbucks. The only con I do have is the parking. This is my second review of this unique breakfast place. Great food, nice people & a mellow, cool vibe! I had the breakfast burrito again and my wife had the grit bowl. Both were fantastic!! This will be our go to spot when we visit Jacksonville for a concert or football game! Very convenient from the Riverplace area where we stay when we come in for a show or game! I had the pleasure of enjoying lunch with friends Sunday afternoon. It was my first time visiting Southern Grounds and the food did not disappoint! I got in line, ordered my food and grabed my number to take to the table. They had a self-service water station. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with sauteed onions, mushrooms and bacon. Oh my, I don't think I've ever tasted a chicken sandwich so good! The seasoning was perfect, and the sauteed onions and mushrooms complimented the sandwich so well! For my side I chose the Mediterranean salad and I'm so glad I did. There was lots of indoor seating plus a large patio. The downside was parking. But that is the issue for every business in San Marco. There were a few parking spots right beside the building which were all taken. I ended up parking on the street about four blocks away. They did have another small gravel lot just across the railroad tracks. I learned there's another location in Neptune Beach closer to me. I will be checking out this location soon! read more

When the weather is beautiful, sitting on their back patio is the best. I enjoyed my favorite breakfast item, the Grit Bowl, which is always delicious and perfectly seasoned. They've also introduced a new Tuscan Turkey Sandwich that has now become one of my favorites. This sandwich features turkey, bacon, sun-dried tomato pesto, and kale, all lightly tossed in Caesar dressing. All those ingredients make for a delicious sandwich. Do yourself a favor. This was only from the experience from one visit as meeting some friends. When I arrived, I was a little peeved because parking was metered or to could hov around and try finding street parking. As we stood in line, I wanted to order in advance but my signal was low and I didn't seem to connect even with wifi. I went for a familiar face with the bagel sandwich but it was so dry and dull. The sandwich was about $7 and the Orange juice was $5. I totally wanted my money back but didn't want to be tacky. The ambiance was nice, but I see nothing to rave about. We came here every morning of our week long trip. They have a huge selection of beverages besides just the basic coffee, chai and matcha. They have kombucha, kefir and fresh pressed juices too! Their baked goods are divine and they even have hot omelets and more! Love their matcha lattes iced or hot and they let you adjust your desired sweetness levels. It's an adult grilled cheese sandwich taken up a level. Grilled goat cheese with aged provolone, fig preserves, and basil on walnut bread. The flavors all together are just delightful! I'd always heard great things about Southern Grounds and thought it was just a coffee shop, but recently discovered they offer a full menu of food items and is open until 9pm. I haven't tried the food yet since it's on the pricier side, but their Iced Caramel Macchiato with oat milk (less ice) has become my go-to. I've visited seven times over the last couple of months and always get the same drink since the location is close to my work. The coffee is good, but the quality varies--likely because different baristas prepare it each time. One day, I overheard a barista telling another that his secret was mixing the caramel directly into the espresso, which made the drink taste less bold than I prefer for a macchiato. The one downside is the parking situation. There's a narrow strip of spaces right by the cafe, and if those are full, the overflow lot by the train tracks can be inconvenient, especially if you get caught waiting for a train. All in all, Southern Grounds has a nice vibe, and I'm excited to try some of their food soon! read more

I go to this Southern Grounds for meetings often because it is a convenient location to where I live. Their coffee is good, but not my favorite. I usually get an iced americano or an almond milk latte. I do really love their pastries! The vegan pumpkin muffin is the best! The staff are always friendly and the ambiance is nice for a business meeting. I like that it's not silent inside, there are many people talking which makes it a comfortable atmosphere. I've gotten a breakfast sandwich here before and it was delicious! Their prices on lunch food are high, so I haven't tried it yet. I've also visited around 4 pm for a glass of wine. It's a small lot that gets quite full and backing out of it onto the street is a bit treacherous. There, now that that's been said, everything else about your experience will be seamless and FAB. I ordered the ancient grain salmon bowl (thankful for the patient gal at the register because literally everything on the menu looked good, so your girl took a sec or two to decide). Come hungry because this bowl is plentiful. I was expecting a tiny sliver of salmon, but what I got was enough to feed two people and the salmon was cooked to perfection. If I'd been staying in town, I could've taken home enough leftovers for another meal. I also opted for a nutter butter cookie (again, it's a big one!) because it was calling to me. We shared it and I still had some leftover for the drive back to Orlando. It's prettttty sweet, but perfect when paired with coffee for a sweet/bitter combo.
