Small shop with good beer selection on tap and in the fridge. Super friendly service. Tried Bourbon County for the first time. It's a type of stout brewed in bourbon barrels, hence the name. It has a very unique taste: sweet and bitter infused with smokiness comes from the barrel. I would recommend everyone to have a taste for the experience. I ended up liking it after the fourth or fifth sip. My friend ordered a brie plate to share amongst four. Pros: Good portion; cheese knife is very cute and stylish. Cons: not an impressive arrangement, it's half of a Brie sliced in half filled with some jam. You can make this at home in 1 minute. It'd be a more attractive dish if the Brie is baked and filled with more ingredients like some nuts &fruits with jam. read more

We first came here when this place was a month old and we were long overdue for a visit. We stopped in just got get a beer and a cheese board. This place has changed a little since the last time; their menu was more extensive which now included grilled cheese (yum!) I'll definitely have to those next time. We got a couple of the finback beers which were crisp and light - perfect for a hot summer day. We got the manchego and quince cheese board which was served with jam and crackers in plenty. It was delish! The menu has multiple types of cheese boards for whatever kinds of cheese you prefer. And if you don't like any of those you can make your own! In addition to the grilled cheese and cheese boards, they have fondue!! I hope that they expand the menu again to add in Mac N cheese! Overall this is a great addition to the Stony Brook village. The service is great and it's a cute little hole in the wall where you can just sit back and enjoy a pint or a glass of wine. The only thing bad about the place was the limited amount of beer on tap. Also on the board there's no description of the beers. You would think "Brew Cheese" would have more than 5 beers on tap. Great little place. Not a lot of seating but quite cozy if you do manage to nab a table. Grilled cheese sandwiches, craft beer, and cheese trays. What else could you want? If you're with a group I recommend splitting a cheese tray (meats et cetera are extra) with a drink to start then all grabbing your own sandwich. Lots of options and all are delicious. It's a little pricy for what you get but I guess that's what you pay for the experience. Would definitely recommend for a little Friday night outing with friends. read more

Today is opening day of Callie's new spot!! It's in the same location as the now defunct Stony Brook Godiva Chocolate shop, next to the Stony Brook Village Post Office, to the right. It's amazing to see what she's done with the place. The layout is exquisite - it starts with 2 large barrel 2 tops along the windows in the front, with a very long and large bar against the back wall with some of my favorite cheeses displayed in the displace case. The far left side of the bar has beers on tap with bottles in an open fridge on the left. Behind you she features spreads and breads (oh...that rhymes). My friend had grilled cheese with pickles and spicy sauce. Both were melted in thick multi grain bread. (that's the only kind of bread they have). They were served in a deep metal dish. There were plenty of napkins on the tables. They should have mac & cheese! Many choices of cheese you can take home. And many choices of beer bottles you can take home. The tables...not really tables..big barrels for the tables for 2. It's not a good place for big groups. 2 tables for 2, 2 tables for 4, and 5 stools at the bar. Tiny stools. You seem to sit sideways and have to sit on your coat. No prices listed, until you see your bill. The signs behind the counter are faded chalk... I just popped in today to check this spot out. The truffle cheese blew my mind and the IPA I tasted was also fab. I will say I was a little unhappy when I discovered dust in my fig spread and when I went to pay it was dusty on the countertop. No biggie but it's what knocked it from a 5 star experience to a 4 star. Say good by to the proceeded american cheese on white bread, the Apple Jam-bo-rie is out of this world! It's Brie cheese with granny smith apple and bacon jam between a multi grain bread. Bread was so crispy, not mushy at all and they do not skimp on the cheese. My boyfriend had the Savory Meltdown, "French Raclette Cheese" with a black pepper bacon jam. I didn't even get a chance to have a bite because he ate it so fast. Paired with a great beer it was the best lunch I have had in the SBV. We also picked up a 6 pack of beers that you can mix and match, I believe for $11. They had a nice variety of different beers with pretty high alcohol content. *wink wink* All together we spent less than $40! Staff was very nice, gave us recommendations on cheese and sandwiches. It's a small place that doesn't have much seating, but the barrel tables are cool and they did a great job decorating inside. Came here again, because well we needed our cheese fix. My girlfriend got two free beer coupons a while ago so we had to come back to at least cash them in. We ended up staying for a second beer along with a manchego small board that comes with crisps and quince paste. The cheese was enough for our mid afternoon snack but we just had to have more cheese! We asked for a few samples and ended up taking some buffalo cheddar home. I want to buy a pound of that stuff and make buffalo mac and cheese for our next BBQ. Only knock on the place, if your called brew cheese you need more than 6 on tap beers. The tap beers are rare which is great and the cold fridge has some other rare cans and bottles along with them adding some wine on the back of the menu. Surprisingly impressed by this place. The beer selection is good. The atmosphere is intimate. This was a great little stop on my way home back from a trip and has great reviews which it deserves. No happy hour, but prices are not insane for beers in NYS even discounting that. Skip the grilled cheese, and sample the cheeses.
