    The Smorgasboard
    David R.

This was a cool little place to pop into for a bite and a beer! They've got a lot of creative and tasty grilled cheese sandwiches with fun names to choose from. I ordered the The Smorgasboard and it did not disappoint. My wife got the Robert Baratheon Rides Again and that was super tasty too. Brew Cheese definitely does their sweet, spicy, and savory flavors right for the grilled cheeses. The bartender working that night was awesome, and she was helpful especially since it was our first time there. We'll definitely be back for more brews and more cheese.

Who doesn't love a good surprise? Apparently, a lot of people. But I'm always down to receive something I wasn't expecting. Well, for Brew Cheese I was totally expecting everything I experienced. It's the fact that my girlfriend surprised me by taking us over to the Stony Brook location (shoutout to her!) that threw me for a loop. You see, I've longed to visit Brew Cheese for quite some time (and she knew that!). I mean what doesn't sound amazing about beer and grilled cheese under one roof? (The answer is nothing). Though I always thought I'd check out the Northport location (it being so close to Sand City Brewery and all), but there is no doubt in my mind that that storefront is just as wondrous as the Stony Brook spot. It's not big, with only a couple of high top and barrel-type tables (plus a few bar seats), but that's all it needs to have plenty of sud/curd style. What really makes Brew Cheese so stunning are the two aforementioned parts to its name. Let's start with my favorite, the "Brew." Eight beers on tap with a nice array of local and semi-local craft breweries (Sand City made an appearance) as well as a cider and some mead. Not sure what to have? Flights are available (and of course I went in this direction). But what makes Brew Cheese so awesome is the fridge full of beers, ciders, and a few other libations. See something you like? Just take it out, get a glass from the chill employee, and drink it there (a similar idea to Milk and Hops in the city)! My girlfriend loved this concept as she found a cider in the fridge right up her alley. Now let's get cheesy. Not only does Brew Cheese have over 15 different gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, but they also have actual cheese (well duh!). This meaning their display case filled with all the cheeses they use in their grilled greatnesses (and perhaps a few others) are available for purchase in wedge form. We didn't buy any cheese-to-go that day, but we totally dined on the Smorgasbord grilled cheese. This $10 handheld consisted of buffalo wing cheddar, smoked gouda, French raclette, sriracha, and spicy pickles. I told you this is not your average grilled cheese shop! Even better is the fresh scrape of raclette that accompanies several of those delectable options (not the one I got, unfortunately). That's something I look forward to trying next time out. Overall, Brew Cheese just rocks. Perhaps if you're only a casual acquaintance with beer or cheese then it's not the place for you, but if you're a connoisseur (or just a fan) of either area, then you gotta give em a whirl. With great brews on tap (and more in the fridge) along with a variety of delectable dairy products, you're bound to have a memorable experience at Brew Cheese. And hey, maybe someone will read this review and bring you here as a surprise. One can only hope...

Raclette board and a gingerale.. yummy!

Great small space for exactly what it says cheese and brews! I thought it would've been bigger but that's me. Husband and I shared a cheese board and sandwich. The double bacon grilled cheese and the raclette board. Both really good!! I only wish the sandwich had actual bacon in it not JUST the bacon jam. It made it too sweet for a sandwich. But the board was so good and the bread they use is excellent!!!! I would recommend, but not for a group. I'm not sure if the northport one is bigger but in stonybrook it was cozy enough for 10 customers at a time MAX!

First time here and definitely won't be my last. The service is phenomenal. So friendly and knowledgeable about everything they have. The food is delicious and prepared with care. VERY generous portions- we needed to-go boxes. The quality of the cheeses were great. So fresh. The beer was excellent too. I highly recommend giving this place a try. I'll definitely be back.

I've been wanting to try this place for years and it did not disappoint. The service was wonderful and the grilled cheese paired wonderfully with a nice cold beer. the only oddity was that my server growled at me and crawled away on all fours when I was given my food. Altogether a wonderful experience

Brew Cheese is awesome! I love all of the food I've tried and their cheese boards are SO good. The beer on tap is always different and there's always something to enjoy. It's pretty small and cozy but it works. I'd recommend any of their sandwiches, they have all been fresh and delicious. Really decent selection of unique cheeses too. I come here about once a month I love it!

I went to the Stony Brook location on a random Wednesday night a few weeks ago and I plan to go back ASAP. It was the perfect way to warm up and eat some comfort food in the middle of the week. If you are a cheese snob, you'll enjoy the selection of cheeses and paired platters available, as well as the menu of grilled cheeses. It was extremely hard to pick just one because they each highlight a different cheese family - I almost got a second one to go! The beers on tap were all seasonal and paired well with the food. You can sample the beers, and based on what I like, the bartender was able to recommend a really great sour beer that I would 100% order again. The decor is super cool, especially the beer cap sign on the wall, and the cozy, casual atmosphere fits the food. I think it can only be described as warm and cheesy - in a good way.

Stopped in for a late lunch what a great concept Beer and Grilled Cheese ! Small place with a cool vibe. great Selection of obscure beer and very creative grilled cheese menu the "Tony soprano breathing heavily" was not only delicious but has to be the best named sandwich on any menu.

    Small place, but comfortable enough.

Beer and cheese. What else could you want? Practically sells itself. Quaint little restaurant in village center in the historic district of Stony Brook. This place has a very good selection of beer and cheese, and is a nice spot for a fun tasting. Don't expect a variety of food to eat; there's beer, cheese, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Went there on a quiet weekday afternoon, after spending a late morning taking relaxing stroll around mill pond park. Definitely worth a try.

    Truffle cheese board, crazy good!

I went with the chickpea fries, which were very crispy on the outside and extremely creamy on the inside. It is coated in a layer of chickpea powder and then fried. My fries were much thicker than everyone else's, and they also came with potato chips that tasted oily. I didn't love the fish and chips and wouldn't order this again, but my friends enjoyed their burgers, shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, and roasted cauliflower steak. Service was good.
