The lady working there was so sweet! Gave an explanation of everything on the menu and was helpful with recommendations. Grilled cheese options seem delicious but a bit pricey--might as well get one of the heartier sandwiches for a couple dollars more. Very cute ambiance, only two tables. There is a single stall restroom in the back!

It's always a wonderful treat coming here and I promise I'll start coming more. There's more than just cheese here too incase you didn't know. Plus I mean if you love cheese they have an excellent selection plus who doesn't love free cheese to try. Everyone is super friendly and helpful you can order lunch they have platters and other goodies from local suppliers as well. It's so quaint and friendly being inside. It's hard not leaving here with everything. There's parking outside and plenty of room to enjoy your lunch inside and out. I absolutely love supporting this business and you should too.

Stopped by Little Cheese and had the Truffle Shuffle grilled cheese.... cheddar truffle cheese served on fresh sourdough bread with a side of homemade truffle cream sauce. Omg... it was AMAZING! The truffle flavor was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced, and that homemade truffle cream sauce?! I could seriously bathe in it!!! If you're a truffle lover, this sandwich is an absolute must try!

The guy working the counter seemed to be the only employee here at 1pm on a Saturday, and it was sufficient. Cute little store with two nice sized tables right by the entrance and windows. A few small tables asking the side and more seating at a small bar. Tons of beer, tons of cheese, and Boylan brand sodas of various flavors. We started with a cheese board for $18 that had a few decent cheeses... I think it was called The West-Coast. They had basically run out of the Barely Buzzed cheese, so I told the kid to choose a replacement for it. He gave me the small piece of Barely Buzzed that was left over and a nice junk of Merlot BellaVitano, which happened to be our favorite. And the fig jam and wafers that came with it were the ultimate compliment to the cheese. It was a lot of cheese, even for the 3 of us, and we didn't finish it because our sandwiches were so massive. I got a sandwich called The Raclette, named after a cheese I never tried before. It was pretty good, but I wasn't crazy about that particular cheese. Now I know! My daughter got a The Fold, which was my favorite of the three, complete with slices of jalapeño. The wife got the Green Mountain which had bacon and Maple syrup, which I thought was ok. As it turns out, I'm not a fan of beer, sadly. But if you like beer, and you like cheese, and you've got a couple of hours to kill with some great company, I think this place is going to make you really, really happy.

ORIGIN: Two Long Island restauranteurs, Callie and Tim…read moreBrennan, opened Brew Cheese in Stony Brook Village Center in 2015 with the guidance of their friend, David Striffler. David had worked at Whole Foods, where he was introduced to a variety of cheeses. Since then David has earned certification as a Cheese Professional from the American Cheese Society and is the current proprietor. A second, larger space is located in Northport Village. CONCEPT: Callie and Tim had identified a need for a cheese shop, as well as a craft beer-centered bar, in the area and decided to launch a venture that wove both. Brew Cheese offers a wide curated collection of international cheeses to take home (per quarter pound), or to immediately enjoy as part of a cheese board or grilled sandwich. To accompany the cheeses, Brew Cheese sells locally and nationally brewed beers on tap, as well as a wider variety of canned craft beers in refrigerated display cases. LOCATION: Both Brew Cheese locations face a harbor and public grass-covered grounds. This makes Brew Cheese a perfect destination for those looking for picnic fixings, or a uncommon window view. The Stony Brook village location has ample parking, and is in the proximity of a top academic medical complex, a local history museum, and a university (SUNY Stony Brook), inviting a refreshing and charming destination for visitors. While shops may be hard to find when driving within the Stony Brook Village Complex, Brew Cheese's neighbor -- the Stony Brook Post Office -- provides a landmark point of reference through its towering clock spire. EXPERIENCE: We had planned on going to the Northport Village location, but an impromptu change in the day's plans landed us on the campus of SUNY/Stony Brook. In looking for an alternate dining destination via Yelp, I was surprised and glad to learn there was a second Brew Cheese location in Stony Brook Village Center. The small, narrow interior is painted chocolate brown, with many aged wood decorative touches. Sunlight streams in through windows that nearly reach the ceiling. German clay beer steins and metal cheese graters, evocative of the focii, line the perimeter. Four barrel tables -- two for couples, two for groups -- complement the bar counter that is lined with four stools. Music gently plays in the background. The end result is a cozy, intimate space for those who choose to immediately enjoy what Brew Cheese has curated and prepared. Early reviews, such as the one submitted by Long Island YES member, Bill, suggest that cheese alone was initially offered as an accompaniment to craft beer. However, today there is a two-sided menu in which customers can select melted cheese sandwiches -- a great "to go" option -- as well as platters. Each item has a clever name and combination of flavors. For example, I experienced the Apple Jam-Bo-Rie, with melted French Brie, slices of crisp green apples, and bacon jam encased in two thick slices of grill-pressed multigrain bread. Nonetheless, the sandwiches can be described as "cheese-forward", with the added flavors in the background, as well as the side (North Fork potato chips). TIPS: If sharing, select items that represent different forms (e.g platter and sandwich) and tastes (e.g sourdough and multigrain) in order to amplify differences. Samples are available for beers on tap, which invite opportunity to be introduced to unfamiliar craft brews. During my visit several sour beers were on tap, including a curiously named beer called "Sour Me Unicorn Farts", an orange edible glitter-filled beer that is somehow the product of a collaboration between Maryland's Diablo donut shop and Duclaw brewery. Iced teas, soft drinks, and hard ciders are available in the refrigerated display cases at the front counter, as well as the back corner of the store (near bathroom).

He gave off those types of vibes) let us sample what felt like every option available until we settled on a white peach vinegar we loved. Just as we were prepared to check out with just one vinegar, he asked if we liked Greek food (which I do) and let us sample a more savory infused "Olympic" herb vinegar that was incredible, I had to have it too. It's come in so handy for the abundance of cucumbers and tomatoes I have from both mine and my mother's summer gardens. I opened them up the next day to grill and they are grayish brown, old looking and smelling patties. You know when you buy ground beef patties from the supermarket and leave them in the fridge for a couple days too long and they get brownish grey? That's how Merceps patties were, only worse, and they weren't even in the fridge for a day. Certainly didn't expect that from supposedly "fresh" patties that I spent nearly 3x as much as I would've on grocery store burgers. Brought the patties in the next Monday to return. The owner gave me an attitude right off the bat and argued with me that there was nothing wrong with the brown, gray overpriced patties they sold me. I said, "I don't know what to tell you. I guess we disagree. I'd just like to return them." He continued to argue, gave me an attitude and finally only gave me half of my money back. Fast forward to this year, 2025. Family members had a party and got nearly $75 worth of chicken from Merceps to barbecue. (Keep in mind this would've been maybe $30, at most, worth of chicken at any supermarket.) The $75 worth of Merceps chicken was only in the fridge for a day. When it came time to prepare and unpack the chicken we were met with a horrible surprise. Rancid chicken. Not just past its prime... but literally rancid chicken. Chicken that smelled like rotten fish. Family member called up Merceps and they agreed to give them a store credit and said not even to bring the rancid chicken back to return. Now fast forward to the most recent disappointment . For another BBQ, about a month later, family decide to get from Merceps once again, using the store credit from the rancid chicken. For part of the newest order, we got another dozen beef patties. What do you know? Same thing that happened last year. More brown, gray, sour smelling, un fresh patties. 3 strikes you are out. Stay far, far away from this overpriced butcher with their rancid, stinking meats and rude attitudes. BJs, Costco, Stop and Shop all literally have better quality meat than Merceps.. for half the price. Like what is the point of paying this egregious markup for a local butcher if the quality is so horrendous? Honestly?

I walked into the store and asked if they sell Oxtails, some guy that worked there said yes and pointed to the refrigerator. Well I didn't want precut oxtail I wanted the butcher to cut the tail for me the way I wanted it cut. The man behind the counter stated he Only sell it precut for $8.99 a pound. I said fine give me 2 lbs. after I paid the man I realized it was frozen. I didn't want frozen precut oxtail. So I asked for a refund. The man behind the counter said do you know that the tail is frozen when it arrives at the butcher. I said sir I honestly just want the oxtail to not be frozen because I wanted to cook it for dinner right away. Then all of a suddenly he says. We do sell the tail but that cost $10.99 a pound. Then he says "Do you know the price of oxtail went up because it's high in demand" That's when I started to think maybe this is a race issue, no one asked for the price of oxtail. I asked if you sold them by the tail. So I said I don't care about the price I just want Oxtail by the tail because I like to get my tail cut up no more then an 1inch in width. How dare you judge me by not telling me what you sell, but yet giving me the cheapest you have. I was very offended. Then he goes to say well if that's what you want you need to call me Monday and I will have it for you Tuesday. I believe that should have been said as soon as I asked if you sell oxtail by the tail and not precut. Why did it take you so long to mention that you sell the tail for 10.99 a pound. That should have been said in the same sentence as precut frozen oxtail is $8.99 per pound. I felt I was not welcome here and that's fine because I will not return. I'm truly disappointed because all the reviews on here was great so I thought what could go wrong

I'm not someone who enjoys leaving negative reviews, but unfortunately there's a reason the ratings aren't high. When you walk in, the servers are right there, but they look at you and don't say anything. It's awkward from the start. I'm not sure if it's a language barrier or just the way things are run, but it makes the whole experience confusing. They have iPads for ordering, but there are no signs or directions anywhere telling you that's what you're supposed to do. So when someone finally acknowledged me, I started to order at the counter, and the guy told me to order on the iPad instead. I tried, but I couldn't make the modifications I wanted, and when I attempted to explain that, communication became really difficult. He eventually had to call someone else over to help. Trust me, I have a lot of patience for language barriers, but when there's attitude involved, the sympathy goes out the window. It just makes everything more frustrating than it needs to be. Now, the food itself? Actually very good. I was excited to try the Impossible chopped cheese because I've heard great things from other locations, and it did not disappoint. It was really delicious, just a little pricey, especially when you compare it to a regular chopped cheese from a bodega for half the cost. My husband got the chicken tenders, and he said they were also very good. So here's the bottom line: the food is solid, but the service is extremely off-putting. We even tried giving them a second chance, and the experience was basically the same. I'd consider ordering online, but the prices on their website are literally double, and when my husband pointed it out, they argued with him. All in all, the food alone is good enough that I want to like this place, but I'm not sure I'd go back. Try at your own risk, LOL.
