I was offered replacements at 9:38 am that wouldn't have arrived realistically until 10:10 at the earliest. We were already pretty confused so we just ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches, I got a iced chai tea & she got an iced coffee. A little over 30 dollars and it was subpar at best. Sandwiches were dry...super dry, my chai was not good at all, I should've stuck to my Starbucks ritual. My wife got her iced coffee and as the waitress was pouring it she noticed the board had flavors so she asked for a flavor to be added, the counter girl said it's fine this time but usually we charge so next time tell Me before you pay. Alright - so we now know, Carl and Eloise both work at Brew Bakers. After reading Carls review last night I decided maybe I should give it another shot, even if he straight out said I should just stick to McDonalds. Maybe my one star review was harsh, but that was months ago .. thanks to Carl for motivating me to check it out again!! So this morning I went down there and ordered me up some food, and it did take a long time - much much longer than it should have taken for the simple things i ordered.. The guy that helped me had a horrible runny nose that he successfully blew on his sleeve multiple times while preparing my food. the interior looked the same to me, maybe some of the lame art that was on the walls was replaced by other interesting "art" but i couldn't tell the difference. so, yes .. i will say, the bagels were pretty good still. the other baked goods we got were fresh and well made - very european in flavour, i am not a big fan of berries and fruit in desserts and most everything in the cases was berry and fruity.. I did not see any of the "fresh" bread from Spain that Eloise talked about, but that must be some expensive intercontinental bread - do you know the carbon footprint on a slice of bread that has travelled that far?? oh my .. I've given brew bakers more than 1 shot. Each time I leave feeling ripped off & alienated. I usually go with my wife and kids since this place is right around the corner from us. Nothing I have ordered here has justified the price I paid. The food itself is quite pedestrian. When a server clears a table, its probably a good idea to ask if the customer is done with their food first, i did just spend an astronomical amount of money on that fruit salad.... We like Brewbakers...but have to downgrade them for their somewhat high prices and sporadic bagel selection. Sometimes they have great bagel flavors, sometimes not so much. They don't seem to do a good job planning for volume. Go in at 10 am on a Sunday and half the flavors will be sold out...leaving you to pick from what's left. But 5 minutes later they may restock other flavors, even though they previously told you they were sold out. Would love to see salt bagels and sunflower seed bagels as permanent additions to the menu. read more

Brought my family here after a photo shoot at Wadsworth Mansion, celebrated my daughter's 21st birthday with delicious food...roasted turkey sandwich, Florentine omelette, and a chilled chicken wrap. Staff brought over a seven layer bar with a lit birthday candle inserted. Devils Advocate, breve latte and Island Steam coffee were nicely paired with the bar...which was so delicious my mouth is watering thinking about it. Love this place for lunch. My favorite comfort food is the Chilean chicken sandwich- awesome taste yet so simple! The baked goods are to die for as the owner (Josef ) is an award winning Austrian chef. Friendly service but it can be busy and a little slower at lunch. They close at 5 which is sort of a bummer. I always get their Bagel of Day, which tend to be interesting options instead of the traditional flavors. I love this place. I come here all the time. The food is great... But.... I couldn't be more upset with my visit this morning. How at 9:45am are you out of most types of bagels? Avocados are seasonal? What? I just had a ton of guacamole last night at dinner. How do only make so few bagels on a Saturday morning ? You're always busy on the weekend. Common sense dictates you make more bagels. To make it worse, the lady taking my order didn't really care. I've had their bagels (solid, but go early when they're most fresh) and egg and cheese breakfast sandwich (fine, but you can get a better one at Sweet Harmony down the street). Recently I also had the grilled eggplant panini for lunch. It was around $12, overpriced, but it was tasty, if a bit messy. The eggplant was cooked well and all the flavors were strong. The only thing I was confused about was the menu description. It was supposed to have a pesto mayo, but to me it tasted like just a garlic mayo. Still good, but not what I was expecting. I don't like the owner Eloise. She was very rude to my girlfriend and I on more than one occasion. When I choose to eat there again, after the owner being rude to us on one occasion, she continued being herself and was rude again. She treated other customers with a different type of respect. And I don't know what I did to get this type of service She walked right past us while asking other tables how they enjoyed their food. Then told us to clear our plates when we had just watched her clear plates from another party at a different table before. Why wouldn't we get the same service? Weird? Also I've noticed they have made clear changes in quality of food/drink since re-opening from the pandemic. Quality of the black bean burger, and quality of the lettuce, used for salads etc, has gone down. Definitely be careful what you order here because some things are overpriced. Eloise is the type of business owner who goes out of her way to tell her employees to make sure every cup they use for lemonade is overflowing with ice before they pour the actual lemonade in it. I worked here for one morning. This establishment could be very cute and intelligent, but the employees must go about taking care of every station, going from one to the next without ever washing hands. I watched the chef eating egg salad from a bowl meant for patrons with his fingers. When I first arrived I was handed a tray of food to deliver to a table... I had not washed my hands and even had to change a bandaid but the manager just stood there waiting to hand the tray to me. I asked if gloves were ever worn, and he said, no not for just delivering food. Employees go from handling money to making drinks to wiping tables to delivering food. I could not get over not seeing one person ever wash their hands. Nice people, although everyone seems to be afraid of an Eloise, who I did not have the pleasure of meeting but maybe if she told people to wash their hands, they just might. Oh, and I've seen the owner stalking yelp reviewers for giving this establishment a rating of 3 stars or less with offers of free food if the reviewers would change their reviews. Snagged some take out lunch on a beautiful spring day. What a picturesque view as I pulled up on a glorious spring day, Brew Bakers windows and doors wide open to let in the breeze. Friendly and prompt going staff. The Italian combo panini I chowed down on was fantastic. The substitution of a balsamic reduction upped the flavor significantly. I am only saddened that they aren't open in the evenings, thus the 4 stats instead of 5. On my last day in Middletown, I was in search of a sandwich that I could easily take with me on my train trip that afternoon. The prices were a little higher than you'd get at Panera, but I was hoping that would be an indicator of quality and ingredients. Wrong again! I was deciding between the chilled herb chicken sandwich and the Chilean chicken sandwich, and the woman behind the counter recommended the former, saying it was flavorful and one of her favorites. The chilled herb chicken breast sandwich ($9) is advertised as having greens, tomato, asiago cheese, and pesto mayo. Sounds good, right? Wrong! When I ate my sandwich, the only two ingredients that made the cut were the greens and the chicken. Um, where's the tomato, cheese, and pesto mayo? Though it was crusted with herbs as advertised, the chicken lacked flavor and was pretty boring. The worst part of the whole sandwich was the bread - it was hard as a rock, and I felt like an animal having to tear away at it savagely with my teeth just to get a bite. Ugh! My lunch was a big letdown, and the main reason I ended up finishing it was because I was trapped on a train with no other options so it was more of a "I'm hungry and need to eat, but I'm not really enjoying this" kind of meal.
